    My dealer told me if I mess with ECU or any part of the computer system, it would most definitely Void any warranty on the bike.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia 8 дней назад

      I am sure that consumer protections vary from region to region. But I can only tell you what my dealer said; that the burden of proof is on Triumph that any mods I make to the bike directly impacted whatever I am trying to claim warranty for. So they kept doing rear brake bleeds under warranty knowing I had a new map on, they even told me I'd have to reload it after they did an ECU update. Now, if I shredded the final drive, I'd probably be outta luck...

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia 7 месяцев назад

      It really does work, as that is what I and others have used. When it tells you to use the "twist grip switch" you realise you have to twist it closed? It has a couple of mm of travel in that direction, which is how you can turn off the cruise without using the brakes while riding. It needs to detect all of the switches in the CC circuit. Also, the Rocket doesn't have a cruise on/off button, so you'd ignore those in the TuneECU list. The instructions for the Rocket should be: With the ignition ON and the engine not running: - Activate front brake switch - Activate Rear brake switch - Activate Clutch switch - Twist grip switch (in the closed position, i.e., twist it all the way forward) - Activate cruise accelerate switch - Activate cruise decelerate switch, and if the CC light goes out the CC is reset.

    I don't understand the risk of messing up your ECU, with such a powerful bike out of the box, not to mention your Warrnty is worthless now I'm picking up a 2023 Rocket-R in two weeks..and leaving it stock, no need to mess with Engine perfection.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia 8 месяцев назад

      Well for starters, I wasn't the first to do it, and made sure others trod the path in advance. Second, out of the hundreds of tables in the ECU, it only alters the throttle mappings, so fairly low risk. Lastly, I spoke to my Triumph dealer and they said that while Triumph would probably push back if there were drivetrain issues, they'd find it difficult to void warranty claims for unrelated issues. Like spongy brakes, leaky forks, cracked dashes etc. They even told me at the first annual service I'd need to reload my tune as they'd flashed the ECU. And It's now 10 months out of warranty and going strong!

    • @elithegreat6463

      @@watchapexmedia Naturally Fiddling with the ECU is not going to void a brake, lights or, even transmission issue etc. But just messing with the ECU, with no real need to do it, is frankly taking a risk of some China made garbage part from amazon messing with the computer. The Rocket manual says it should stop after 10 cycles if it can’t calibrate. From the manual: “The diagnostic tool will allow the test to operate with the throttle held open for a maximum of 10 seconds (approximately 10 cycles). If adaption is not completed in this time, the test will stop and you will be prompted to close the throttle and turn the ignition OFF. Note any on-screen messages and investigate the cause before attempting to restart the test.” So maybe you have a sensor issue you need to diagnose?

    Your mods look excellent. Great to see the end caps on!! Thinking of replacing my rear wheel hugger with Carbonfbr’s extended hugger. Won’t look as good but will reduce silt, dirt etc from collecting in and around swing arm when I get caught out in the rain. Seems to happen every weekend which results in a 90 minute clean afterwards 😂😂😂. Have you had any trouble with your rear brake? Mine was subject to the recall but has been back 3 times to dealer. Still not as it should be.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia Год назад

      Hey mate, the end caps are on thanks to your suggestion! I’m sort of blessed in that I don’t get a lot of wet weather riding, and if I get caught out, a quick pressure wash sees it clean and sparkly again. I think the extended hugger would be a must if you were daily riding it though., and the carbon one certainly looks the business. I’ve had my brakes bled 3 times now, and the dealer told me Triumph has changed the process a few times now. The latest method takes a solid half hour to do apparently. The other two things that folk on the forums say is a more permanent fix is either (or both) upgrading the fluid to high temp racing fluid, or replacing the rear brake line as it’s proximity to the exhaust softens it. I don’t see how a slightly spongy line equals air in the system, and as the Brembo stylema system is on other bikes like the Diavel and Panigale and they get issues as well, I suspect the ABS module might be a weakness. Luckily even with no rear brakes to speak of, the fronts still stop it on a dime… Hopefully they come up with a fix, and my dealer said even though my bike is now out of warranty, the ongoing brake saga is still covered…

    • @nialls6510
      @nialls6510 Год назад

      Hopefully my dealer takes the same approach. When the rear brake works, it’s excellent but complete failure from time to time is no fun. Good to hear they’re looking at alternatives. Stay safe out there😊

I am not sure it was “just” resetting the adaptions that did it, or whether it was because I interrupted the start when it took a long time cranking without starting. Either way, all good once I worked it out…

    When I test ride the R model, I thought the weight/size was a shock as I thought it felt a bit small…..but in saying that, I have an 05 Rocket and also had an 07 Rocket Touring at the time, both of which are much bigger and heavier than the new ones, which is also why I didn’t buy a new one, as I love the feel of the older ones…

      I agree they aren't for everyone. I always thought the original Rocket was an engineering feat on release, and new someone who had one and loved it. But I never got past some of the styling cues on that bike, but the update struck the right balance between retro and modern for me. Love it! Thanks for watching.

      I haven't tried one, no. Not a fan of some of the styling, plus they have been getting a lot of bad feedback in the forums over the last couple of years about fit problems and QC issues. I'm ok with the stock seat for the type of rides I do these days. Thanks for watching!

      @@watchapexmedia Thank you for the reply! Approximately for how many miles or for how many hours do you think you’d be comfortable on the stock seat? Also, have you taken a pillion? What how did they find the passenger seat?

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia Год назад

      @@dlmp70 I’ve only done probably two hour stints in the saddle between stops, and that was enough to start wishing for a bit more comfort. But I’m not a small guy, so weight plays into that. I don’t get back pain, it’s just a “pain in the butt” so to speak. The range of the tank means you aren’t getting more than 3 hours of highway time before stopping to fill it anyway. The pillion seat on the R is fairly small, and while I haven’t had anyone on it yet, by all accounts it’s not great unless the passenger is tiny. The GT has a bigger pillion, but would still not be ideal for long periods.

    looks good and thanks for making this video. i have the 221 and the tank stickers look bad. i need some accent stickers to cover them. anyways, i ordered the exhaust piece, heel plates, and driveshaft cover. i’m going baby steps and see how it looks. i really like spray rubber if i’m having a hard time making a decision. Yeah, the 221 has a really nice red/black scheme, but the sticker on top of the tank with clear coat over it is a bit naff. I don't mind the 221 on the side though. I didn't go the heel plates as I figured gloss CF would get beat up fairly quickly by my boots. Thanks for watching. 🙂

    Off topic question. How do you raise your Rocket? I have a floor jack that I'm afraid to use due to the fact I'm raising it by the motor itself

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia Год назад

      Hey Earl. I've only raised it once to add the wheel rim stickers, but there are specific jacking points underneath you need to align to for it to be balanced. And if you drop a wheel, it will throw out the balance. Check the service manual, which you can find on R3Owners. I only have a small Bike/ATV lift so I am wary of the balance. I made sure I had a mate over to steady it. I'd also use tie-downs to fix it to the bike if it was up for any length of time. Short of that, if you are going to do a lot of your own work, get a Big Blue lift. And thanks for watching!

    I think that today the new Ducati with the Diavel V4 engine will certainly compete with this bike for the same share of the market. I find the bike very interesting but the lack of wind protection is a downside if touring with it is a project. The bike is beautiful like it is but would be great to have some sort of a bubble to make it into a mile muncher. The quick shifter is key for me in terms of riding pleasure, so for the cost of the bike It’s expectable to get it from stock. ( I’m achieving 58 years old next May, so arthritis are becoming a issue to deal with and the quick shifter is relevant as it ads a lot of riding comfort). The video is amusing and your impressions are very objective which is always nice when we want to have independent views of things. I subscribed the channel and hope that you keep on bringing more videos. Be well and ride safe!✌️✌️

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia Год назад

      I agree, the Diavel was an alternative for me, but the Rocket kills it in the looks department. Well, in my eyes anyway. 🙂 There are some larger screen options out there, but not many that look great. If someone made a quick release one like the barndoor they make for the HD Fatboy, that might work. Corbin do make a big bikini fairing screen, but most find it looks horrible. Love my quick shifter, wouldn't be without it. Saying that, the clutch is super light, so if you didn't get it, you would still manage unless your arthritis is bad. But it's still the first option box you should check. Thanks for watching, I promise there are more videos to come. Still have to finish the carbon install, upgrade the horn, install the aux power outlet and swap the tank badges from silver to black. Then may do the Meerkat Mod to the exhaust.
