@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 thank you sir
@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 sir can I message you if I want to ask something about the koehring 440
So what are the best suited jobs for a dragline? I’d love to have one but not many around me
@@kelbycoon3281 anything where you need reach and depth, ponds, sand and gravel pits, manure pits (only if you can load a manure spreader)
3 yards?

Nice old machine, and good camera work,
Charile brown would have pulled up a rock lol😊
First time on u tube I have seen someone who actually knows how to run a Dragline. Took me back a long time.
@@PhilipLantz-is7pp thanks, I have several more under cotter dragline
You are super operator! My name is Jim Tsigganis and i have 3 Ruston Bucyrus. RB-22, RB-30 and RB-30 400SC. 1000 likes from Thessaloniki Greece.
Thank you
@@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 I am going to have Problems learning to run my Koering 405 as I am used to running my Northwest Model 6 which has the hoist and drag backwards of other Brands.
if u ran one u would find out real fast
Never heard of a chainsaw 🤠
good operater
pretty good loading truck
yes there are jobs for these
A number of years ago I came across a contractor loading his Unit 1220 dragline onto a non-detachable gooseneck lowboy trailer. Using the dragline, he hastily built an earthen ramp to load the dragline from the rear. The ramp was apparently too short and steep for the Unit to climb on it's own power so the customer brought over a TD-20 to give the Unit a push from behind. As the Unit was going up, it slide off to the side and bottomed out. You could hear the contractor cuss a blue streak a mile away.
I think the Dragline is my 3rd favorite heavy equipment machine. Watching it do this type of work is more interesting than simply pulling gravel from a pond. Lol .... My question is: what happens to the piles of material? Was it hauled out or bulldozed over?
I'm sure they will just level it out
Smooth operator!
beautiful machine
Nice to see some content from you Mike. Best wishes from Emerald Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
no way tjat is a 60"
I used to run one just like this. The hardest machine to learn, but once you did it was great to operate.
This is expertise
How has it held up ?
Holds up good
Good machine and very good operator., smooth working !
My dad ran a dragline like this for a living brings back fond memories.
Excelente trabajo bro 👍
Beautiful video showing some skills like a boss! ♥️~CC
Good to see you again, Christy ! A very merry Christmas to you and yours ! Kind regards, Steve.
Can you tell how Deep the river is, from experience? From South Africa 🇿🇦
This is just a pit, not a river but if you can see the white paint marks on the cable that's my depth gauge.
beautiful machine and very good operator
Some awesome videos here! Great work!
My Uncle ran a dragline nearly his whole life. When he was using mats he had a hook made of rod at least an inch or bigger diameter about 12 inches in length with about 4 inches across. He would put it through one of the links on the bucket chain near where the cable attaches. Mats had a loop of cable on each end that he’d hook one end to maneuver them. Never a wasted motion. When he quit at 80 something he was running the same model machine you run. I enjoy watching you work, you are the only real dragline operator I’ve seen on RUclips
Thanks for the compliment, I just never got around to making anything for the Matt's but do have a pattern to make one
Any easy relaxing afternoon you had there Mike. All the best from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks, it was a beautiful morning with the leaves changing color.
@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 the leaves are all changing colour here too.. but that's because we haven't had rain for the last 3 months 😄 so the Fire brigade has had to do a bit of back burning.
It's that time of year for us, starting to cool down. We had a lot of smoke in our state this summer from all the fires up in Canada.
Just a question,, I be nervous running a payloader near that pond bank,
There's plenty of room for the loader and be safe.
@@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 thanks,I figured the pictures could not show the distance
👍🏻
You're excellent operator. Congratulations!!!
I don't know why but the dragline has continue to interest me! It's such a marvelous mechanical invention that even today it would always be relevant in the future despite the unprecedented use of hydraulic excavators. I say this to say that I witnessed first hand of the pros and cons of rope excavator vs hydraulic excavator. Here is an example, the dragline technically might be appearing 'slower' than a hydraulic machine but seasoned dragline operators would be the first to say it gives a better quality of work- polished finish especially if it's a trench/canal that has to be dredged. And so it's no exaggeration that Guyana possesses some of the finest dragline operators in the world! A brutal truth! Another point, the hydraulic machine after digging along an earthen canal would see a big piece of land directly in front of the machine going out towards the water's edge would break up and fall into the water! That never happens with a dragline!👍👍🇬🇾
Very nice crane and operator! Smooth as silk!
Is that your 440
No, this is my latest 405
How can you tell when the dragline bucket is resting on the bottom, (before starting to drag the bucket & excavate the sand) since the bucket is not visible under the water? I assume it's because when the bucket hoist line is no longer under a load (after the bucket comes to rest on the bottom), the hoist line will show some visible slack, but I don't know.
That is correct and also I have markings on the cable
@@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 Thanks for the explanation! I imagine the hoist cable marks are measured in "feet" up from the bottom of the dragline bucket, which would be helpful in determining if the bucket is "on the bottom", when the approx. depth of the water is known.

Is this Koehring part of the NCK? It's a beauty of a machine. Sounds like a Rolls Royce engine in there.
NCK was part of Koehring. It has a 4-71 Detroit in it.
The crane looks similar to a Bantam C-35. I wonder if Koering bought out Bantam & built cranes that were developed from Bantam's product line?
Yes they did
@@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 Thanks! Are parts still easily available for your old Koehring cranes?
is that mud good dirt or is it dead from lack of oxygen
It was all clay but is green grass now.
Kids doing well. Not even smashing up the cart when he dumps.
very good operator !!

If I didn't see this video, I would never think this could be done. Thanks for the video!
I've never heard the term "spanner". Someone said it meant you could narrow the track width for transport? Was that a Koehring name? Good to see the old girls earning their keep!
It may be a Koehring model term but yes the tracks will widen from 12' to 14' wide on the 440
@@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 Thanks for the answer. Nice machine! Another question, what is the lever at the far right? Live boom?
Boom hoist lever
@@cotterdraglineservicesinc.9167 Thanks! I don't get around many Koehrings. It's a nice machine.
She looks heavy!

I've operated various hardrock underground slusher draglines and when I was in early 20's was an mine hoist operator. Draglines with a boom fascinate me. They can excavate, pile, and even load trucks. Amazing
