I'm a growing RUclipsr who streams games for fun on their hardest difficulties, studying them greatly on a technological level to truly understand them better. I am a huge Resident Evil and The Evil Within fan and have played on their hardest difficulties with certain restrictions to provide a better challenge, but only to a degree that showcases the full potential of the game and not for simply developing a tolerance like some drug addict. I've recently gotten into doing reviews/retrospectives of games, particularly the Resident Evil series, to demonstrate the proper way to critique games with a level of thoroughness severely lacking in so many reviews/retrospectives. I focus on story, characters, screenplay, and gameplay equally in said retrospectives.

The Poor/Laughable/Confusing Designs/Dumb Moments of RE4 Remilk Krauser, Part 2
Re4 og will always be the top RE game for me. Everything about the story lore and characters are top tier. Until re2r came along and ruined everything that RE stood for and that same issue happens to follow in its disastrous sequels. I also like mary/maria’s final phase music that plays imo lol
I like Pyramid Head 1 Theme, Double Pyramid Head Theme, and Mary/Maria’s Theme. There are also some ambient themes I like.
@@idi-jq6cj Mary/Maria phase 3 really stuck out to me. It just sounds dreadful not in a bad way but in a good way. And i agree with you with the music.
@@YouRrightmanPhase 3 theme is certainly more connecting between James and Mary/Maria emotionally, as opposed to the kind of weird music that plays during the same encounter in Silent Hill 2 OG where it was like metallic rock music almost.
@@idi-jq6cj yeah. I might just prefer it over the original.
10:35 I said that too. Put some soul into it. Guy Cihi was yelling in that microphone in og.
I’m surprised that they didn’t introduced an enemy type here. They didn’t add abstract daddy enemies from the original here.
It wouldn’t make sense to put the abstract daddies here, as they’re specific to Angela.
15:38 my favorite Sebastian quote Lul, not gonna lie the pacing is very bad when it comes to picking up keys at the city, the hospital and the prison. They should’ve removed those extra areas from that head puzzle plus I don’t understand why they change it from a simple key to tedious progression. These areas specifically that you’re heading were unnecessary 15:30 and 24:04. Remove the bracelet key pieces objective in the hospital and just use the box from the other world. The prison there’s no need to collect 6 bottles that’s too much and they should’ve kept it at the minimum 3.
Silent Hill 2 OG was the same as well, with having a lot of tedium and mundane things to do. I’d say the pacing in Silent Hill 2 OG is worse. And when you add that to the poor balancing of Hard Difficulty with certain bosses in the OG, the OG is worse than the Remake in that sense. The problem with both games is they’re only able to be enjoyed on repeat playthroughs, not the first playthrough.
could it be that SH2R managed to achieve the impossible and offer us a worse camera than dark souls's?
No
14:37 the meaning of 2 pyramid heads is, supposedly: spoilers they are there to punish james for killing. the 1st one because he killed mary and the second one for killing eddie
But James hardly knew Eddie and killed him in self-defense, given that Eddie unraveled. And it would seem odd for James to suddenly create another manifestation so soon after a supposedly key event like Eddie's death. I suppose going off of this, maybe he created that second Pyramid Head to punish himself for not saving Maria? No idea. It's confusing.
Nostalgia is an obnoxiously powerful thing.
Compared to many other people, I at least don’t let nostalgia cloud my judgements when I move on from old games. Also, after doing my walkthrough and gaining the forward knowledge of the section designs, this game has grown on me a bit.
I clocked in 15 hours at end's, the problem is that it feels like it overstays its welcome too much, and playing this through, going for all the trouble of the puzzles and the combat and the only thing I knew out of it is to find out James *Did* that 😅
It’s actually the same case with Silent Hill 2 OG on your first playthrough, as many parts of that game are brought here as well.
The mannequins are fucking annoying
I think I'm almost done playing the original Silent Hill 2. I cried when I heard the story behind it for like an hour. Something about the story of it really struck a chord within me and I don't usually cry because of movies or video games. I didn't know this game fell under psychological horror and so that genre is one of my weaknesses. For example, I cried twice watching the movie Smile and it's not because of it being scary, I just don't do well with psychological horror stuff, it really makes me upset. But I'm determined to finish the game and hopefully can play the remake if it ever comes out on Xbox Series X/S.
The issue mentioned at 14:14 reminds me of The Evil Within. Speaking of which, 10 years have passed since that game released. :O
If you’re referring to the stomp issue, in The Evil Within, if you melee while aiming, you won’t stomp.
TEW lets you melee with both the right trigger and triangle button. I suspect they wanted the latter to ignore nearby enemies, but something stopped them from doing so, thus aiming as a workaround.
@@ItalicMaze I think you mean the triangle button, not the circle button.
Not sure how I made that mistake. I even looked up the controller layout. xD
Have you played silent hill homecoming or downpour? I’ve got a hunch you may like those more than the og silent hill games.(1 to 4)
I haven’t played them, but I’ve seen gameplay.
@@idi-jq6cj oh okay. Just thought you might think its better
@@YouRrightman Btw, I was watching CarcinogenSDA's No Damage walkthrough of Silent Hill 2 OG. and I have to say, after doing this walkthrough of Silent Hill 2 Remake and then watching his footage, I have a greater appreciation of Silent Hill 2 Remake. I mean, the parts where the level design doesn't allow the first playthrough to feel complementary to the story and character moments, the poor acting, the bizarre order of the setpieces, etc. All of that is still an issue in this Remake, but Silent Hill 2 OG had those problems as well as additional issues not seen in this Remake. All I'll say is Silent Hill 2 Remake feels more finished than Silent Hill 2 OG.
@@idi-jq6cj well I’m glad you’ve got better appreciation for this remake. I believe it’s the only good remake in a long while. Especially since we’ve got a constant garbage re remilks lately. Re4r is a real disappointment and that is not opinion, it is a legitimate fact. I dont understand why they couldnt just leave most of what makes og re4 in the remake and maybe add some things like some bow’s or some extra level without betraying the og’s fundamentals. Like they added a new monster in seperate ways just for it to be killed in the next scene. Its like they added an extra monster for the hell of it…
@@YouRrightman Well, at least RE4 Remilk doesn't have a boss that's as stupid in concept as Eddie in Silent Hill 2 for both versions. Eddie, a regular human, is somehow able to shrug off bullets just because he's a boss. And he also walks into walls and walks all over the place in Silent Hill 2 OG, that it just looks so broken, goofy, unpolished, and unfinished. And the amount of times he hyper armors through your attacks is too much. It's also impossible to avoid his gun in the OG. At least in the Remake, Eddie can be finished off with the pistol, but in the OG, for some bizarre reason, Eddie's health is so absurd, that you need 5 hits from the Great Knife to actually finish him off on Hard. Not even weapons like the Shotgun or Sniper Rifle are enough. If you're using the sniper rifle, it still takes around 9-10 minutes to finish him off. Without a doubt, Eddie is by far the stupidest boss fight I've ever seen in Survival Horror history. I just look at the people who call Silent Hill 2 OG a masterpiece with so much confusion, as they're somehow so accepting of such a gamey, silly, broken, unfinished boss fight like Eddie's. How am I meant to take this game seriously when the developers are taking such ridiculous routes in stupid design like this?
Correction: Mandarins don’t damage you with their screams
Hey uhh… I’d pay you to beat this for me
I think Walter Sullivan was mentioned in og Silent Hill 2, and obviously expanded upon significantly in The Room.
The Room is Silent Hill 4, correct? And what does Walter have to do with the lore of Silent Hill?
@@idi-jq6cj It was indeed 4. I can't remember Walter's place in the lore overall, I but I vaguely remember his intentions to murder 21 victims for a specific ritual. I think Henry (the player character) was intended as the final victim, but I can't remember the actual goal of the ritual, if it was tied to the cult or not. My main memories of that game are the second half where you had to escort Eileen through it, it was so bad it made Ashley in RE4 remake seem competent by comparison.
I liked it better than RE4 2024, atleast if I get hit here it's partly due to my fault and skill issues, getting greedy, etc.
You’re not wrong there.
10:08 this is all the proof I need rn 👍 Who’s worse in voice acting maria or ada? Lol Also I do agree with SH’s vague storytelling. Most of it seems to be left on the players imagination which could be fine if you’re not into storytelling that much but I get it. Playdead’s INSIDE is a great example of that. Great gameplay, puzzles and unique design but very lackluster story or characters. All of it is left up to the player.
10:08 That’s all going to change in the later parts of this blind Playthrough, or maybe it won’t once I get the rest of the walkthrough done. Maria has a worser voice than Ada.
@@idi-jq6cj well here’s to hoping that SH will outshine the rest of remakes in the end for you.
Performance mode has an issue with Lumen making some scenes look too dark. I wonder if there's a 40 FPS mode on 120 Hz displays.
I think there's only 30 or 60 on PS5, maybe they'll patch one in, would make sense.
"Those clothes" are the clothes Mary used to wore. Just an fyi Homecoming is underrated than ppl are letting on. Also the radio does affect them. So its best you turn off your radio and light. I believe it was like that with originals as well.
On the wiki, it mentions that only certain Silent Hill games make it where the radio can be heard by the manifestations. I’m surprised the developers haven’t mentioned that in the tutorials. And in the first part of my blind playthrough, turning off the radio didn’t seem to do anything.
@@idi-jq6cj oh okay. I thought it was a thing on all sh games
Radio is useless in this game anyway. First, it is dishonest about the enemy placement. Second, James automatically readies his weapon if a monster is near.
@@Fedor_Kisliakov It can be helpful if it's dark and if a Creeper or a Spider Mannequin is nearby.
16:30 some puzzles auto destroy themselves when you solve them (apart from giving you the next item). It could be interesting to add a NG+ toggle to allow you to attack the puzzle with your melee weapon and destroy it yourself.
1:42 those clothes...
Very good gameplay and tips how are you by the way long time no chatting 😂

Everyone: silent hill is too hard idi4300: NAH This is a piece of cake
People will get magnetized into an unavoidable grab attack while a chainsaw ganado who was miles away magically teleports right next to you out of complete nowhere everytime & clap like seals while calling it good game design, this generation is severely mentally handicapped
Nice work. Any progress with the retrospective? Also do you turn off the radio? You have to do that too
I want to get my Silent Hill 2 Remake content done before resuming the retrospective.
@@idi-jq6cj oh okay. Any reason why? Not to be demanding or any sort. Just curious is all.
@@YouRrightmanBecause I’ll be able to clear my storage of Silent Hill 2 Remake content to give more room for my RE4 Remilk Retrospective content. Also, I won’t be putting myself in a position where I’m deciding which game to focus on.
@@idi-jq6cj i just figured since you focused on re4r your main focus would be on that instead of sh2 but i get that it is a lot shorter compared to re4r especially since you have more knowledge of re4r and know its lore more. Also by the looks of it it seems sh2r is a lot better than the entirety of re4r. I know you said later becomes a lot more boring but i can tell you appreciate more things in sh2r than you ever did in re4r which in itself says a lot. Gameplay wise
@@idi-jq6cj so gameplay wise whats your opinion on this remilk sofar? i don't know if you played the OG sh2, but this remake messes with the vibe, athmosphere and pacing in a major way. too much combat is rather meaningless, but more importantly, too many random busy work puzzles. this remilk, to me, feel like if they skinned the OG game, and covered an ubisoft tower climb with its face. everything seems inferior in quality, even Akira Yamaoka's soundtrack seens more busy, less inspired, much more violins and stuff that makes it all seem a tad bit more generic than i though akira yamaoka was capable of producing. some cutscenes are awful, every cutscene with eddie in it is just such a shame. maria's tone is just off, i don't mind angela but i prefered the OG in that case. the environments are very beutiful but they look too video gamey if that makes any sense? like, they look good, but the space is too large sometimes. some rooms are literal boss arenas. not to even say anything about the level design which, in this remilk, seems like overly loopy, like they are afraid of letting you get lost in the place and take your own conclusions.
Great use of the parry, when I beat him I didn’t even know you could
Im not impressed by this game so far, ill stick to the original, timeless classic
nice good sir. thats the right thing to do IMO
22:15, 25:56, 28:31, 28:54
I missed these no damage commentaries. Hope you will make a commentated version of the latest RE5 playthrough. When I got to the prison, and mannequins started crawling on walls and attack me from blind spots, I nearly threw a punch through my monitor. Fuck them. The devs also like to place them so that they attack you while you are in a mantle animation or something.
It has indeed been a while since I’ve done a walkthrough. When I’ll get to that RE5 walkthrough is unclear. That prison area was so drawn out, soulless, and lacked so much care and it completely ruined the pacing even more.
Your mother is very scary when she's angry. That's true for all mothers
I wonder if they'll patch the spotty detection when picking up items. *has flashbacks of RE0*
Doubt it. That kind of stuff can't be patched.
Seems like an easy fix, though I wonder what's stopping them from doing so.
Very thorough and detailed walkthrough as per usual. Keep it up.
You can always dodge cancel an attack animation, helps with fighting the mannequins.
Not always with certain animations, and also, there’s no telling what speed the mannequin attacks at.
BLESS YOU OMG. I've been looking for this everywhere!!!
You’re welcome.
15:30 I'm so sad we'll probably never find out what became of Ruvik 😢 It's a shame the remnants of Tango didn't get to maintain access to the IP like they will with Hi-Fi Rush.
Yeah, it’s a shame. The Evil Within 3 would have been my most anticipated game.
Great work! They nerfed the ranking system a lot. In the original you had to gather a lot of items, get all the endings, play fast, almost dont save, kill a lot of enemies both in melee and shooting and suffer a small amount of damage.
Silent Hill 2 had a ranking system?
@@idi-jq6cj All 4 original silent hills have a ranking system. Pretty strict, with many conditions, and unfortunately, running away skipping all encounters like a survivor is not one of them, you have to fight a lot and suffer a small amount of damage. Search "10 star ranking system" in silent hill wiki.
@@idi-jq6cj Yes, all 4 original SH had such a system, pretty strict with many conditions.
@@idi-jq6cj is this your first Silent Hill game??
@@GXTHIE I played Silent Hill 1 on the PS3 a while back
Not a remilk???
That’s unclear at this time.
@FishopolisDoc Having finished it, I can tell Bloober team really had the intent of doing justice to the concepts presented in SH2, not just creating entirely new games wearing the skin of the originals like the RE remakes. Lots of people aren't going to like the combat system, but compared to its contemparies (Alan Wake 2, Alone in the Dark 2024) it easily has the simplest and most bare combat. Because Bloober knew that wasn't why people liked the original.
@@LarryWalker-l2t intent to do justice to the thing doesn't explain how many things they just removed or modified inapropriately from the game though. eddie took a huge hit to his character, maria as well. on the hospital chase sequence, they have a cutscene showing what you need to run from instead of it just happening naturally. they make boss fights much more annoying and long. you kill twice the amount of enemies in a playthrough of this remilk than of the OG, why? i cannot comprehend how this is doing any justice to anything? all the content in this remilk is also designd to be seen. the OG was not afraid of letting you get lost in the city or in the buildings, and it definitly wasn't afraid of you not seeing stuff or noticing stuff on your first playthrough, the remake though seems like it is afraid of the player getting bored. the level design is abundant with LOOPS and shortcut sequences, the amount of puzzles (most of them very low quality trivial puzzles) has been like duplicated or more, and for what? how is that doing justice to anything? i'm not agaisn't change btw. i'd just prefer POSITVE, interesting changes, not an overall trivialization, while losing all the vibe and feel of the OG even. why even make this remake in the first place? the only intention here is MONEY.
@@dfghj241 OG kinda sucked to play despite its story and artistic vision. This remake is like, dramatically better. I think you're hyper-focusing on meaningless details so you can have a negative take.
@@LarryWalker-l2t jesus, thats your take huh? i'm genuinely impressed by that opinion. but ok. i not only don't believe the remake is dramatically better, but i also think it misses the mark significantly, and these details i mentioned are important to the overall experience, some less, some more. i think this remake is overly trivialized, quantity over quality and made for an audience of people who don't want to get bored or lost. thats a dramatic shift in tone from the kind of audience who would have enjoyed the og's in the first place. i think the artistically (as in, aesthetically, communication wise) its also an inferior piece, although i'm sure it has its moments, and afterall, the remake still has a solid script, as in, the script from the OG. but now you saying the OG sucked, to me, its OK i guess. i don't expect everyone to love the game you know. i thought the same thing about the OG when i first played it like more than a decade ago. but the fact you can enjoy the remake but not the OG to me is very telling of the kind of audience the remake team wanted to pull. and by that, i mean a more BROAD audience of people. so thus the game is more streamlined in that way. like, in my mind i can only remember the moments i thought were quite brilhiant in the OG. i played the OG many many times, looking at every little corner i could, on all difficulties, hell i almost got a 10 rank star once, just couldn't do it lol. i love that game to death, so of course i'll have a hard time accepting anything more broadly made, with the missing details i think are what made these games "themselves" in the first placce you know;
I don’t think it heard you, it felt more as if it was turning back since it finished its walking pattern so it changed its path to start walking on another pattern before repeating the process.
Does this game have realistic feedback tho?
Not really
Wow, when is it safe to hit?
Really if they were going so combat heavy with this game they should've included a decent variety of weapons akin to something like Silent Hill Origins, at least the repetition could have been alleviated a little. It still wouldn't be Silent Hill 2, but a little less annoying at least.
I'm surprised they kept the tone of the story and cutscenes relatively faithful, but the gameplay and level design feels like a drag which is the 1 thing I was looking forwards to. SH's strength was never the gameplay and seeing the remake fumble on that aspect makes it pointless IMO. Why see the same story when it takes you almost 2x the time to beat it?
You’re correct about the level design. It’s a complete drag. It’s so repetitive and draining.
I think the biggest mistake was thinking a remake of a "survival horror game" was going to be good instead of the same stuff over and over again.
Not just the same stuff over and over again. It’s all that multiplied by 2 or 3.
Silent Hill is not about the gameplay. It is all about the amazing soundtrack, the horror atmosphere, and environmental design. In fact, from what I've heard, remake improves combat while messes up storytelling and pacing. This makes SH2 remake completely unappealing to me 🤮
I actually just bought Silent Hill 2 for the Xbox because it was on sale and I heard it's similar to Resident Evil, which I love. I've been having a lot of fun playing it. Then I heard a remake come out and was interested but I don't have a PS5 and my computer is not good at running games, I use it mostly for college. I'm hoping it will come out on the Xbox series X/S in the future. Games just dont seem to be made like they used to in the past, when people actually put time and effort and care into the games, it seems like now everything is just rushed to get money. I play the Pokemon games and Pokemon Scatlet and Violet was, and still is a complete disaster. Horrible animations, tera raid battles are completely broken, were going on 2 years this being an issue, and there are very few new pokemon shiny forms in that game that actually look good in my opinion.
He'll be released on Xbox in 1 year, Sony pulled out the money (again)
The character interactions be like: 👁👄👁
They might as well be, given how draining this game is.
I've heard that the game is almost twice as long than the original, and I'm guessing there's a gradual decline in quality as a result. I find it weird that remake James is more capable than remilk Leon, despite the latter undergoing training. I wonder how they'd fare in combat if they switched roles with one another. xD
@@ItalicMaze You have no idea how much the quality of this Remilk diminishes. It is terrible.
Yeah, there's far more padding to this remake and it's way more combat focused, despite the fact there's only 3 regular enemies throughout. It's also much more difficult to run past enemies now due to how aggressive they are.@@ItalicMaze
