      This question I cannot be sure of. I'd like to say the Dart or Dart + for sure, but the Elite is shaped for fun in the trees as well. I'd love to think that it will handle really nice up to a certain point of inches of powder. It is a 150cm. With it being flat to rocker it will definitely be slightly more loose and maneuverable in powder. The main power point for powder with the Elite is the ability to slam the stance so far back. That really helps you maximize the powder potential with the 150cm. I'm looking forward to getting it out in pow just as much as you are!

    Hey man, Ive been looking to get a Bateleon Camel 2 because I've heard great things and its just such a pretty board. But a Bateleon One just came up for sale in my area, used a couple seasons, for $175. I've watched your videos and I know you have them both, any advice? I currently own "normal all mountain camber": DC MLF and a Ride Warpig (which I downsized a lot on, which is fun because its super nimble, but isnt the best for higher speeds). Looking for a board that'll be fun to carve groomers and also take in the trees.

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      The Bataleon One is one of the best powder, and powder tree boards I've ever ridden. The loose feeling in powder with that 3BT profile allows you to just move around effortlessly in any powder condition, and powder covered terrain. With that being said, you do sacrifice groomer performance and the board is actually slightly soft once it breaks in. You definitely notice the lack of groomer performance. The issue is that the pow performance is so good that if you sacrificed pow performance for more groomer grip, I'd say keep the pow performance. Like if they gave you the ability to manipulate The One in order to do that. I'd say absolutely not. Keep it the way it is. The smiles I've had on The One in no way, shape, or form have been tarnished by memories of wishing if I could have just held that carve slightly better on that groomer that one powder day. Camel Two is a amazing board. Handles groomers wayyyy better than the One. The One handles powder wayyyy better than the Camel Two. A happy medium is the Thunder or the Goliath. Unfortunately, Bataleon doesn't offer i.m.o the best of both worlds compared to other brands. It's more of the same across the board in their lineup. Either they handle pow better or handle groomers better. Never really both. It really rides on the snow quality. That is the most important factor when riding Bataleon i.m.o. If you want a board that gives you almost the same feeling as The One with the added groomer performance, that would be the Jones Flagship. No questions asked. It has to be the newer updated profile version though with Spoontech. I believe 2019 and above. The Jones Flagship is what I wish the Bataleon One could be one day. Then again, The One still floats better than the Flagship. It's that good.

    great detailed review. Have you ridden Jones hovercraft/ultracraft? how would you compare them. I was looking at Jones for my next directional, pow/carving board but im afraid it will be a bit too stiff for my liking. I think i like a lot of specs similar to you: long EE, large sidecut. but i think having mid flex and help with decambering and making short turns easier. From this, would you recommend any of the board you've ridden? im a small guy at 5'8 135 lbs. thanks

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      Honestly the Hovercraft and Ultracraft are definitely more aggressive flex style boards. They both are meant for double duty. Not only powder destroyers, but also very capable of laying down trenches on groomers. My buddy has a Hovercraft. I've watched multiple reviews out there on both boards. Basically it comes down to the Hovercraft being more damp and able to handle more uneven terrain vs the Ultracraft that is said to be more poppy and slightly stiffer. Thr Ultracraft is said to lose absorption capabilities in the rough stuff though. That would be due to the carbon materials shedding weight and adding rigidity (stiffness) but losing organic materials that tend to soak up and absorb unpleasant terrain. When it comes to Jones it's very hard to not look at the standout models and want to purchase those. At your weight range I would definitely lean more towards the Flagship vs the Hovercraft/Ultracraft. Dump a little width and gain more maneuverability in pow and groomers. The Flagship does everything amazingly well. Maybe even look at the all new Mind Expander. Definitely slightly softer than the Flagship, but loses groomer power (only slightly) and gains powder performance. For instance if you did purchase the Mind Expander and were looking for something with slightly more groomer performance with the float of the Mind Expander almost, then you go Hovercraft/Ultracraft. Downside of the Hovercraft is its technically slightly on the Volume Shifted style of snowboard side. So you gain powder performance in a shorter length board compared to your standard size, as well as the ability to lean it over on groomers with less boot out. However, in order to achieve this, Volume Shifted boards tend to not be anything short of stiff to very stiff flex wise. Crazy option, but hear me out. I would first check out the Jones website. Jones has the best board sizing chart in the industry. You can compare boards within the lineup, as well as read the sizing chart to get a very good idea of the perfect board for your weight, and boot size. The crazy option is to possibly look at the women's Flagship and Hovercraft. Both of those boards look very Unisex and will offer a softer flex for your weight size compared to the men's sizes. That is definitely just an option though. Jones does make a large variety of sizes so I'm pretty sure you will be happy with the men's options, but just in case they're too stiff then possibly look at the women's sizes.

I just picked up a second hand one barely used on ebay 161 size (£165!). I'm 6'1" 188lb size 11.5US boot so hopefully this should be good. I.m.o you could get away with the 153cm at your weight. At your weight it would be a good daily driver resort board. The only thing the 157cm would offer would be way better float in Pow, more stability at higher speeds, and all around versatility. I am a fan of bigger boards for this reason. The Camel Two is a freeride board and i.m.o should be ridden slightly bigger. I have the 157cm and wish I got the 161cm instead. That just for my specific type of riding though. Definitely gaining something by sizing up. Losing freestyle abilities slightly by sizing up, but then again that is not what the board is meant for.

    I own the Surfer and the Camel 2. The Camel 2 turns effortlessly in powder and is the perfect board for riding trees IMO. I got more chances than ever to ride the Surfer this year thanks to the epic season they had in Utah, and leaning back into that swallowtail while making a turn in powder feels as good as punching a high school bully in the face! My only complaint about Bataleon boards is that the base seems soft and easily gouged. A denser, harder base would make for a faster ride and make me feel better about the amount of money these boards cost. With a 3 year warranty I don’t lose too much sleep over it, but yeah I’d like Bataleon to produce a better sintered base. Still great boards though and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

    There are other variables that weigh into determining if volume shifted boards are the way to go, like the rider weight/height/boot combo. So I'm 6'4" 170 sz.12 boot, Its a weird combo since my height and boot size match up to big boards(like 167+) but my weight cant handle them. I've found volume shifted boards in the 157 range, medium flex and a minimum of 27.5 waist to be the most fun. I can really throw them around, lay them over, feel the intended flex pattern & I still have enough toe/heel leverage to have fun in the trees. If people want to get really technical they can print off "Donek's board angulation guide". Cut it to, say 70 degrees, strap your back foot boot in your bindings on your board, weight down the camber & put that angle up to the edge of your board. If your toe & heel aren't even close to that 70 degree edge then your'e going to have work a lot harder to get your board on edge. For me the ideal spot is about flush to 2-3mm from touching the angle edge. It's the perfect balance to be able to carve deep and still have nimble board control. Also a great way to perfectly center your boot on board.

I have ridden Burton boards for 30 plus years and they have always been the fastest boards for me including my last two fish powder boards , then came my 3d fish and I had the same issue that you experienced . thought it was too cold , rewaxed ... no luck . walking out of flats left and right . I gave up on it and bought a new Burton deep daze . its better , but still does not glide well at all even with a variety of waxes and even by proper ski tuners . my only guess is that the new 3d bases in ufo are slow . did you ever have any luck with yours ?

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      I wouldn't say I'm still 100% convinced on these specific year models bases. I did wax my Double Dog twice and it did help slightly, but the base glide is still obviously slow compared to other bases from other brands. I recently bought a 1989 Burton Cruise 165cm and a 2020 Burton Moon Buggy. You can literally feel the difference in base material when you compare them. Compared to my Double Dog the other two sintered base materials feel soft and supple to the touch. While the Double Dog feels hard and very cheap plastic like. There is definitely something going on here with this base and I think it might be some kind of eco friendly material they went with. If a 1989 Burton Cruise is gliding so much better than a 2021 Burton Double Dog then I would say Houston we definitely have a problem. I do feel that Burton might have rectified this issue and went with a different base material post 2021 boards. I've touched them at the store and they feel different for sure, but have yet to ride one.

    Keeping your contact points sharp will increasing chances of catching edges, right? Why not sharpening edges and detunning nose, tail and contact points?

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      If you're doing park or flatland tricks, sharpening your edges is not ideal. That being said, sharpening your edges will increase your edge hold capabilities. That is a major benefit for carving, as well as when riding hard/icy snow. The exact opposite would happen if you de-tuned your board which I would do for perhaps technical mogul riding, 6 inches of powder or less with firm underneath, or a slightly mellower ride on a aggressive board. It's all about what you want your board to ride like. Catching edges is a more beginner problem, but yes it would increase the chances for a more novice rider.

    Camel 2 better than the party wave+ ?

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      In my opinion, it's wayyyyyyyy better. So much more versatile, responsive, and built for more of a freeride normal spec rider. The Party Wave is just too wide for people with size 11 boots and under. The board is meant for larger boot riders to get the most out of it. Otherwise, if you're 11 and under the board just feels sluggish and honestly not scoring points in the fun factor. The width is great for stomping landings, and for people who think extremely wide boards are cool because you can size down. To me, these extreme volume shifted boards are just not fun for fast pow riding, tight trees, groomer performance, and technical mogul riding for size 11 and under. All boxes for my size 10 boots check off negative performance for such a huge waste width. Some people say they love the Party Wave at more average boot sizes. I've owned 20 or so boards in total over the years. The Bataleon Party Wave Plus is my least favorite board I've ever owned.

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      @@charlesdufranc9708 in my opinion that would be narrowed down to what you hold true to versatility. It's really hard to make a choice on to which one is more versatile to me. The Thunder will provide you with a more pro performance freestyle ride. The ability to really lay into it, and it provide you with feedback while freestyle riding. Not just being a pushover noodle or something that you can be sloppy with. Although the 3BT will provide you with that forgiveness if you make some mistakes. The Thunder will let you down slightly on edge hold in hard snow, but holds its own on edge in fairly good snow for sure. The powder performance is the advantage point. The freedom and ease The Thunder handles in powder is the shining point for the board. Combined with the great glide Bataleon bases offer, as well as the 3BT and you will hopefully notice the benefits of the boards construction. The Camel Two is more of a groomer specialist while still flaunting its 3BT characteristics. The Camel Two in my opinion is basically just a more approachable Bataleon Carver. It's more flexible than the Carver, but still offers decent dampening on chunder and uneven snow. Again, great base glide and has a nice lightweight construction that can be decently playful when you want it. Definitely can be manipulated and switch into a hard charging mode when you want it as well. It is not a slouch in powder by any means, but it is slightly less Bataleon 3BT feeling in powder compared to a lot of boards throughout the line. The Thunder handles pow significantly better over the Camel Two i.m.o. Let it be known that the Camel Two is a amazing powder board. It's a pick your poison kind of deal. Both boards are amazing and I thoroughly enjoy the different rides they both offer. If you want true versatility I think my only suggestion would be to own both of them honestly.🤣

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      You definitely have some flexibility in the size ranges. I would recommend the 154cm,158cm, and the 162cm. I'll try to give a breakdown of what you will get out of the board in each size with a 10.5 boot. The 154cm will offer better groomer performance in harder snow, as well as slightly faster edge to edge initiation. It will also handle choppy terrain slightly better. Less bucky due to the narrow width. More playful due to being a smaller size so you will be able to manipulate more. Cons would be since they switched back to camber this year she won't be as floaty as an old 154 M.E. The 154cm will be good for more of a smaller powder day board, but still more versatile for all mountain. Not for carving due to possible boot out on very aggressive carves. 158cm will offer more float, more stability, and better carving capabilities stepping up to the 260mm waist. Good middle point of all the sizes and definitely the strongest choice for an average to above average rider. Still very capable of being very responsive underfoot on groomers, while still offering great float on powder days. The 162cm with a 264mm waist is the powerhouse choice. All boxes are checked for a aggressive hard charging rider. This size will off the most float, the most stability, and the most speed. With the old mind expander I'd probably ride a 158 or a 154 and just accept that the groomer performance would be mediocre. It's a powder board after all. With the addition of camber underfoot this year it's way more versatile and I would pick the 162cm to be just simply more versatile for my style of riding. I want the most float, the most speed, the most stability, and the most power in all conditions. 264mm waist is nothing crazy wide and would be perfectly fine for a size 10.5 boot. Weight is a factor as well. If you're 180+ I'd strongly consider the 158cm or 162cm. 180 and below definitely the 158 or the 154.🤘

      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      Definitely my Burton 3D Double Dog, Nidecker Gun come to mind. Just rode the Yes 20/20 for a few days on some pretty firm snow and it held amazing. Definitely likes short quick radius carves and not very long drawn out ones, but the grip was slightly better with that midbite tech mixed with camber. The main difference is that weight of the Korua vs other boards. That weight really does help when you get into that carving rhythm, and will be an advantage if you know how to tame the beast. Even that Camel Two on good snow will definitely hang with the Stealth, plus is way lighter underfoot with almost identical performance. I do have the Nitro Cannon 203cm and that is the most grip I've ever felt on a snowboard. It should be though due to the sidecut, the camber, the flex, and the effective edge. That is slightly cheating to compare that board to others because it just has a clear advantage spec wise. I'm looking forward to busting out my new Ride Smokescreen very soon because I think that board will be a carving powerhouse as well based off the specs. There are a lot of things I'm loving about the board that is pretty baseline to a lot of higher end Ride boards. Specifically the Carbon Slim Walls and the Double Impact Plates. The dampening qualities this provides is very impressive. Based off the specs it looks like a fun, fast, and solid carving board that can provide you with quick fast carves, as well as the ability to go wide and take some long drawn out carves all over a wide open area. The shape screams nice powder performance. The width is just wide enough to provide extra powder performance without being too wide and becoming sluggish for average size boots. Overall it looks like a fun board, but has the ability to entertain advanced riders who want to push it to its limits. I dig it.👍

      I don't believe they make thr Camel Two in a 158cm. Perhaps you're thinking of the 157cm. The 157cm should be the best choice i.m.o seeing how going shorter at your specs for any sort of park or freestyle aspects would be somewhat pointless, and going bigger wouldn't be necessary at your specs. The Camel Two is an amazing board that can do everything pretty well except for a true park board. It handles pow with ease and trees as well. If for some reason you happen to have another board for groomers (mainly carving) or something more traditional camber, I would suggest you look at the Goliath, Goliath Plus, or thr Thunder. To me those style of 3BT is slightly better in pow over the Camel Two. The trade off to that is that the Camel Two holds an edge better than the boards mentioned above, but slightly less signature 3BT Bataleon feeling in pow. I am not saying that the Camel Two is bad in pow by any means. I just feel like the expectations of the board for trees and pow would be better suited on other Bataleon boards. For example, I am coming up on having to replace my Bataleon One and I'm leaning towards the Goliath Plus,Thunder, or Thunder Bolt. I'd like a slightly stiffer board over my One, but with a similar profile shape of 3BT for the handling in the trees and pow. Even though I own a Camel Two as well. They do handle terrain differently. With any boards stated above I would be happy to ride them in any and all terrain though.

      @@DREWFUSSMAC Yeah I already have a couple of all mountain freeride boards that I like…looking at the Camel 2 as an option for a straight deep days dedicated pow board that can carve aswell and be nimble in the trees on deeper days…from looking at the lineup those boards you mentioned didnt strike me as dedicated pow boards more like freeride allrounders (which I have already…deep thinker, hometown hero, Lib dynamo, ultimate ride) but I might be mistaken

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      @@sax1607 yup, I hear you. What you want out of the Camel Two is totally possible with it. It will be a great board for deep days, and can carve very well. I suggested the other boards for the nimble aspect. Especially since you listed a few of your freeride boards that you own already. You most likely will notice the difference in nimble performance with the 3BT in the nose of the Camel Two compared to your board lineup, expect maybe the Dynamo. Even with the C3 camber, the Camel Two might feel slightly more nimble. Cool thing about the boards that I listed is that they have a different, more pronounced 3BT profile over the Camel Two. Especially the Thunder. It has a more aggressive 3BT profile, as well as the backseat inserts. This is awesome for really deep days and being able to really feel the fluidity of 3BT in pow. If you rode them back to back (Camel Two vs Thunder) you could really tell the difference. Again, not saying the Camel Two sucks in any shape or form. Just it's actually a lot more close to non 3d shaped boards over the rest of Bataleons line. That's why it rides so well on groomers and can actually carve, plus have nice pow performance. As opposed to the Thunder or the Goliath, that might not carve as well as the Camel Two, but they have amazing powder performance compared to the Camel Two. There is always a trade off. Pick your poison, but either way you won't have a frown when you ride any of these boards. This is my suggestion based of you wanting it for trees and pow. I'd go Thunder. You want trees, pow, and carving I'd go Camel Two. Just know that the Thunder only really will not carve that well on really firm icy days. Decent snow days, and great corduroy the Thunder will carve like a champ, no problems.👍

Well I made the swap & got a good credit. Unfortunately after riding Big Snow early it was really slow & didn’t have much personality, however I’m wondering if somehow the indoor snows slower? I’m at a loss because I know I paid for a board that wasn’t what I wanted. I just hope it lives up to 1/2 the reviews. Still debating tossing it on CL or Marketplace & going for what I want. After 30+ years of riding I’m debating on keeping it, stfu & learning my lesson, & actually purchasing what I want for next season.

      So a few things might be going on here. The TwinPig comes with a sintered4000 base. Not a bad base by any means, but on the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to sintered. Should be plenty fast though, especially with that stone ground finish that Ride applies to its boards straight from the factory. With Big Snow being man made snow, as well as them I'm assuming keeping the snow at a spring like condition for general riding, it may feel slow in those types of conditions. From what I can gather when I watch Big Snow vids, the snow doesn't look mega firm. That could be one possibility. One way to test this is if you had another board, try applying a thin coat of wax on your board and do not scrape it. Like literally coat the base with the most minimal amount of wax and then don't scrape it. Take it to Big Snow and see if that helps. If it does, then it's most likely the snow. Make a friend do it if you don't have another board. Lol. This will not ruin your board I any way. That being said. Do not do that to your TwinPig. The structure in the base is there for a reason, and honestly you shouldn't have to wax it for some time. The other theory is that with it being a volume shifted board and wide, the personality of the board will not come alive until you get it wide open on resort conditions. Just like I stated in the video, volume shifted boards to me are sluggish and lack response. Since Big Snow is so small. I don't think you're really letting her loose. I really hope the base issue is resolved on resort conditions, and I honestly think it will. As well as hopefully you grow to love it when you can get her wide open.👍

      @@DREWFUSSMAC thanks for the reply! After 32 years in the game sometimes a outsiders perspective can really shed light. In the past I’ve rode Mervin stuff but rode a Kemper Freestyle 161 last year. All with sintered based, not sure the exact number though. Last year I didn’t preseason at Big Snow because they were closed due to a fire & in the late summer of 2019 it just felt good to snowboard I didn’t care what I was on. Per the snow it’s like soft like spring corn snow but cooler & much drier; completely unique. I do agree the Pig wanted to be pushed more that I could due to space, beginners everywhere, & walls (they’re not at the mountain I normally ride, LOL). There’s a video of my daughter riding that day on my channel if you were curious about the “snow”. I do know I probably not going to be going as I have dental implant surgery the 1st week of November. Aside from the expense, 4K, it eats up all my time off at work. I did notice some shadowing as I inspected the base last night that turned to be adhesive residue from the spec sheet. Some gas on a rag took care of it & I cleaned it up afterwards. Possible culprit? I predominantly ride a smaller place, West Mountain, with my daughter. So my riding has been slowed with a lot of switch so she can fallow, side hits when I’m waiting, & she always likes dad to be the GP in the park. I think it has the potential to be a good ride. I’m going to give it a whirl with a splash of wax because Big Snow dried out other contact points on the base. I’m just frustrated with myself because it’s all my fault getting the wrong size T Rice & I felt it was a #2 default choice. HOWEVER I can’t find really anything bad on it after a few years of production. Being larger, 6’4” 225 with 13s, I’m thinking I can “drive” it to preform. Not to mention with everything happening in this world as soon as I get out there I’m sure it’ll be fine. Hey if there’s a Sasquatch on marketplace/ CL in upstate NY who likes to ride park maybe I’ll pull off a mid season switch out....

      @@tomjones1967 nice dude! Be careful with waxing it though. More so just don't put too much effort in getting that shine like other bases when you brush it. The structure will make it look like there is still wax on it when you brush. Also, going up and down when you brush it is slightly more critical due to the structure. So definitely brush out the wax going back and forth in the same direction as the structure. I think for sure the residue could have been a culprit, but I have a feeling it was snow. My experience is different regarding tree runs in the forests in deep pow. I have tried several volume shifted boards and none of them are good (to me) as all mountain boards, but they performed really well in the forest, because due to their short length they are more agile but float amazingly well, no tomahawk risk and you can ride more relaxed and with your weight centered, even when the board is a volume shifted twin and your stance is totally centered. I love these boards for deep pow, being my favorites the Arbor Terrapin and the K2 Cool Bean (although mine is a split bean). But I definitely wouldn't recommend them as do it all boards, not even the twin ones. But, we all are different and maybe if you are reading this, and if you have the chance to try twin VS boards, go ahead, maybe you like them as all mountain boards. I tried the Jones Mind Expander twin and the Capita Powder twin and I didn't like them for piste, so I didn't even go to the park. But, again, we all are different and to me, VS is a great concept, especially if you can ride deep pow every season and are a several boards guy like me. Also, I agree that most of VS boards are just short wide boards, but others aren't, because they are slightly wider than a normal board but not enough to be wide. Like the old Never Summer Funslinger. I am 176 cm, 77 kg, and I have got a 153, and is one of my favorite boards of all time, even though is very soft. Its width in 153, is perfect for my 9 size feet. In their specs, when I bought it, they said that it was slightly VS.

      I'm not much of true twin guy. I don't shred park and ride switch well enough on most of my directional twins, and freeride boards when needed. I did however scoop up a Yes 20/20 powderhaul. It's a true twin powder board and has a 263mm waist. Not crazy wide by any means and will hopefully work well with my size 10 boots. I think my personal max preference for non sluggish response is about 265-268mm max. That's pushing it really at 268mm for me. I just don't have any problems with agility in any terrain on most of my favorite boards. Which range from 157-162cm. My favorite tree board is a 162cm Bataleon One. Going smaller just never was my thing because I never saw the need. I ride pretty aggressive and going smaller just screamed less edge hold, less stability, and less powder float. I honestly gave volume shifted boards a serious shot. My favorite of the bunch was my Niche Pyre 155cm. I had some good times on that board, but technical riding is a true passion of mine. So that extra width just doesn't help me personally. The Arbor Terrapin is sick and I have always had my eye on it because I love Guch! Especially the first edition I think with the Rasta color scheme. That is a sick ass board! Almost snagged one last season but the dude sold it. Yes, volume shifted boards will definitely be more suitable for your feet waist width wise, but they still have their downfalls. Way less stable at high speeds that includes any high speed pow riding. Just something to think about. A more traditional board shape will always be my pick over any volume shifted board, especially for trees. Also be aware that what may feel good on an indoor setting may not translate into real resort riding. I'd be happy to help with any other suggestions board wise if you're open to other traditional shape boards. Wide versions of course.

    • @DREWFUSSMAC
      @DREWFUSSMAC Год назад

      My favorite tree boards in my quiver are the #1 Bataleon One, #2 Arbor Coda Rocker My Bataleon One is pretty much a directional Bataleon Magic Carpet profile wise. They don't make it anymore, but the Thunder, Thunder Bolt, and Omni are the One's current equivalent offered with slightly different flex. With the 3BT on Bataleon it makes them so good in technical riding because some of the 3BT profiles that riders say don't grip well on groomers and hardpack actually work wonders in trees, moguls, and pow. The difference in edge hold between my Bataleon Camel Two and The One is night and day. The One grips fairy well, but definitely super loose compared to the C.2. The 3BT on the One is just so smooth and catch free in the trees, and moguls because the contact point are lifted pretty high. It has all the power you need though to make hard stops or speed checks if you had to without feeling super washy. The flex helps like crazy too, or mine is just so broken in from all its use. It's a 162cm and that is my go to tree board no matter what amount of snow is in there. Let that sink in. All for the most part has the power of camber with the looseness of a Rocker board or hybrid shape. My Arbor Coda 158cm Rocker has similar tech in it. Arbor uses what they call Parabolic Rocker. It's a Rocker board that actually grips fairly well on groomers. It also has uprise fenders right at the traditional contact points of the board which makes it just slightly more forgiving at the tip and tail. Arbor also does something super cool which is they have these extra contact points directly under feet (toe&heel) called grip-tech. It allows you to steer the board very rapidly directly underfoot. Combined with a less aggressive torsional flex and you have a board that floats like a Rocker, gives you pretty damn good edge hold plus crazy precise, but also is very forgiving and flows like butter in the trees. The sidecut on my Arbor really helps with sharp quick turns in trees as well. I would definitely steer clear of anything that has magne-traction because it's just a little too much grip for hardpack trees, but I have had ok times on loose hybrid shaped Lib Techs with the right profile and flex. The Magne-trac is just not needed on moguls or trees. The Mind Expander performs well in moguls and trees because of a few reasons. It's basically a Rocker profile race board behind that huge nose. The slim waist width and Rocker profile give you amazing performance in technical terrain. It doesn't get bucked around like a volume shifted would. It actually thrives in that sort of terrain and only gets better in pow. They have also added 3d shaping in Jones boards now called Spoontech. Very similar tech to both Arbor and Bataleon. That nose on the M.E is basically not even touching the run unless it's in pow. Tree and mogul boards to me need to scream controlled chaos. Something that can be loose when you want it, and in control when you need it. I have found that perfect waist width for your specific boot size is key. Then followed by advanced tech like 3BT, Parabolic Rocker, or Spoontech are the cherries on top. Hope that helps dude!👍

      I can honestly say that I very much dislike my Bataleon Party Wave Plus on every type of terrain. That is just my opinion though. The waist width (278mm-281mm depending on the size) is just wayyyy too wide for daily use to me. It's crazy sluggish edge to edge for my size 10 boots, as well felt very Cadillac-ish in pow. It just didn't do it for me. Carved fairly well, but was murder in the trees or any type of technical terrain. The more standard size waist width on the Camel Two handles so much better in all types of terrain. Plus it rides pow just as well because it's the exact same profile of 3BT as the the Party Wave Plus. The Camel Two is by far the superior board. Personally with that waist width on the P.W.P you need like a size 14 boot to ever say that it feels good underfoot. I rode it once since I bought it and never rode it again because it was that bad. Overall it's not a p.o.s, but it doesn't do any type of riding well. Which in theory would make it a p.o.s right? Lol

Put same wax when it's super dry and if I m being honest I do it so it looks nice and shiny. A lot of companies are doing this out of the box like capita ride etc. Not for park boards. Lol. I have a Rome mechanic,Jones stratos, capita black snowboard off death and endeavor archetype. The Jones came with stone grind the capita structure but for the exception off the rome now all have structure. Good luck with the channel.

      That has been the only solution I've heard to possibly fix the issue. I had a Capita Navigator that came with structure from the factory, and honestly I ended up selling that board because it was nothing special in my opinion. I honestly don't remember it being very fast, but I do know of a lot of people who back structuring bases for less maintenance/waxing and better glide. I truly love waxing my boards because it not only makes the base look all shiny and new, but it definitely helps with speed as well as making time to clean up edges and make any p-tex repairs. I never really wanted to go the route of adding structure to any of my boards, but this will definitely end up being the route I will take with this Burton because I do enjoy a lot of qualities this board does offer. Thanks for thr advice!

    Great review! Got the boss from Bataleon last year and I love it, but like any true twin which is all I’ve ever rode if fails me on the deep stuff in the trees and even medium deepness as I do ride the east. I appreciate the honesty of this review because I was wondering if this was what I was looking for or not, and it seems like you had a similar hope for this board. What would you recommend for a board like that? im also not Married to 3bt.

      Old board was a sims about 7 years old, rocker. I got pretty good on it started doing jumps and washing out often, boots were small cheap bindings all that. Finally got on all new tech this season and I was jarred. I felt like I was on a rocketship but entirely the pilot in command, I progressed quicker than ever before. Still ride the old beaut over the rocks cause I like my base too much

    Just made the switch to Bataleon this year. Snagged an evil twin over the summer. Best board I've ever ridden. 100% going to grab a surfer before I head to Japan next season.

      No I have not, but based off the specs and profile shape I am pretty sure it rides very similar to my One. I would love to get on it one day though just to see if I'm correct. I rode The Carver and The Camel Two over the weekend. Reviews coming soon!

      I left both links to the description of both The One and The Thunder Bolt. You can see how very similar they are.
