Trisha's Kitchen NI
Добавлен 21 авг 2024
Hi guys! Welcome to my wee channel created here in Northern Ireland. Here i'll share my videos of baking, cooking, food preserving (ie, canning, dehydrating) and whatever else i feel comfortable adding. I'm a country cook so there won't be any a la carte here, but whatever i share with you will have been tried by my family, and will taste good (even if i do say so myself lol). I've been thinking of doing this a long, long time so now i've taken the plunge it is so good to have you aboard with me on my journey. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to spend a bit of time with me. It's very, very much appreciated. See you all later.

Homemade burger buns - topped with home canned BBQ Chicken, home canned coleslaw and curly fries
Hi everyone, recipe and method is in the video! So sorry about the volumn fluctuations in this video, I'm still learning how to control that, but hope to do alot better in my next ones!
These burger buns were sticky to work with but turned out great along with my canned BBQ Chicken, canned Coleslaw and shop bought fries! Other half is too shy to do a taste test but he loved them all. Successful canning makes me so happy.
The canning of the BBQ Chicken and Coleslaw are already up on here on my canning playlist. Thank you so much for watching 😁 and enjoy!

Next time i will add more of the hydrated vegetables but all-in-all it's a tasty and filling soup. Thankfully my other half loves it and says it's better than the tinned version i was trying to replicate so i will de...
My experiment to see how far dry soup mix expands when pressure canning here in Northern Ireland!

Hi everyone, I'm experimenting here to see how much dry soup mix expands when added to soup jars to be pressure canned. I've used both pint and quart jars in this simple experiment. How long would you do stewed apples for for canningx
@@DianeBaseden Hi Diane, i haven't done stewed apples, but from what i can see the time would be 8 mins PC or 20 mins water bath for both pints and quarts 😊😁
@@TrishasKitchenNI thankyou as long as i dont under cook them they should be ok then x
@@DianeBasedennchfp.uga.edu/how/can/canning-fruits-and-fruit-products/apples -sliced/ I use this website as a guide Diane. Personally i think i would waterbath apples as pressure canning them might scorch them. Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on! 😁

Love your videos. I live in the UK. I am wondering where you got your pressure canner from your help this matter would be much appreciated if you could comment back
@@christinejones5005 hi christine. Thank you so much. I actually got both my canners off ebay! A tad expensive but well worth the cost 😁
Is pressure canning similar to cooking in a stove top pressure cooker? I’ve cooked with my presto pressure cooker for my whole life. I’m 72. I’ve been thinking about getting one but I hear many negative comments.
@BusDriverShirley Hi. I've seen people who can up maybe 3-4 jars in the older high dome stovetop pressure cookers! (As long as it takes the weight for your elevation) Most here in the UK/Ireland would be under 1,000 ft sea level so would be using 10lb weight! Hope this helps 😊
@ I’ve been thinking of buying an actual pressure canner. What kinds r better than others
@@BusDriverShirley It's really down to individual choice and how much you want to can! Lots of people buy the new electric IP with the actual canning feature which only does small amounts, others have the big 23 quart presto or 16 quart presto with the 3 part jiggler weight. There are other brands on the market which i know very little about performance wise. I like my 16 quart presto for small batch like 7 jars or my 23 quart for double stacking pints or smaller jars. Depends on your needs mostly! Hope this helps! 😁
Great idea to use the pressure setting of the instant pot for this experiment! Love this!

Interesting! We pressure can corn and peas for 55 minutes here in the US
@@KendraRexroad that's interesting to me too! I took my timings from the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning. It says 40mins for peas any size and 55mins pints of corn, 85mins quarts! I'm only PC'n for over a year here in NI so reference this book alot. I'm interested in the difference in timings as i hope this book isn't wrong 🙄
Those look delicious! What does the term crown mean in this context, please?
@@jenniferr2057 Thank you Jennifer! They were so tasty and handy to have in the freezer. A turkey crown here in NI is just the full breast of a turkey with wings and legs removed. Sorry i sometimes forget about different terminology in different countries lol 😊
looks delicious
Thanks Kris ❤
Really pleased to have found you on RUclips! I’m also from NI (Co Down) and have been steam canning for the past year. I would love to get into pressure canning but haven’t been able to find the equipment needed. Would love to pick your brains some time.

I was so excited to see you teaching pressure canning in Ireland........ and then the instant pot. This is really not recommended. A pressure cooker doesn't work the same as a pressure canner.
@@SuttonsDaze Wow! A big "hello" Lisa from SuttonsDaze 🤩 I'm one of your channel subscribers/addicts and have learnt so, so much from you over the years! Thank you so much for your comment! I've got to confess i was somewhat sceptical about using my IP for canning at the start, but after guidance from hundreds over this side of the pond i decided to give it a go and am happy using it for small batch canning using the guidance to treat the jar contents as having being water bathed therefore heating to over 85C for 5 mins or longer. I mark up these jars as IP as an added reminder to do so! I prefer using my Presto to be honest and will be using it mostly in my videos to try bringing this wonderful process into Northern Ireland homes 🤞 thanks again!
I like how you show you're in an apartment and you're using a camp stove on the table so let's just pretend you don't have the other stove but just with your small space getting food Canned Up the way you do it shows that if you want to you can do a little bit even a little bit counts there's so many people that don't do this and prepare for later on in case something happens in the country or the grid goes down or the power goes out whichever a storm hurricane you can still do something and you are proof of that so I congratulate you I've just been lazy the last couple of years at least I admit it but I do have a whole room prepped in case something happens because I am alone and nobody's coming to help me I know besides you're not supposed to depend on anyone else but yourself so from one lady to another I'm so proud of you😊 and thank you so much for sharing this I'm going to watch the whole video😂❤
@@christinehill55 aww thank you so much Christine, that means alot to me 😍 the way the world is now and the price of food it is important to me to have food canned up to feed my family/friends if anything was to happen and also to use up any food whether it's canning it/freezing/dehydrating! Rebel canning, nice. A term coined by CityGirl Homestead. I always add a Chili deArbol. Small but powerful chili. 🌶️ One thing I noticed here in Ohio is the lack of using Chili powder, using paprika instead. Might be because of the heat factor. Your recipe sounds amazing. My water here is heavy with chemicals that I buy bottled water a lot as well.
@@suzanmccarroll5489 Yes, she is great! I've learnt so much from watching her canning! Wow, i think that would be lovely, i would try it, but too hot for my lot here! Paprika is a very popular spice here too but it takes the chilli for the heat hit! 😁 I'm hungry for chilli now lol
How will you use these? They look very good. .
@@jenniferr2057 I fry off minced steak, onion, garlic and add these and tomato puree to make up chilli. I also add more chilli powder to our preference. I also use them warmed up as you would any other bean with a good sauce! 😁
