Ringer Ollie
Великобритания
Добавлен 15 фев 2016
Hello! My name is Ollie. I am a church bell ringer and I live in Norfolk. I have been ringing since 2012, have always been interested in churches and, more specifically, the bells and this led me to start learning just after the London 2012 Olympics. My goal is to create a visual database for church bells across the world so future generations can look back and see this uniquely British tradition and how is has developed over the years. I hope you enjoy the channel and if you do maybe consider subscribing to follow the page and keep to date with my travels which I record this usually forgotten piece of history!
As of 28th November 2020, the 'Ringer Ollie' channel started it's new season. This time round we are focusing on unique rings of bells, single bells, and rings which are at risk of being lost. As well as some additional extras which may be of interest at a particular time.

The 3rd and 5th cast in 1616 by John Draper and the tenor being the youngest bell, having been cast in 1868 by John Warner & Sons. The Bells of Methwold, Norfolk

The church of St George in Methwold holds a ring of eight bells. Prior to 1999 there was a ring of six bells. The middle four of these six bells were cast by John Draper in 1630. These four bells were top and tail augmented to six by the addition of a treble and tenor bell in 1775, both cast by Osborn & Arnold of St Neots. This ring of six bells were augmented once more, in 1998, by John Taylor...
The Bells of Long Stratton, Norfolk

One of the few videos on RUclips that shows the correct way to begin raising the bells. St Mary the Virgin's Church in Long Stratton sits right beside the busy A140 road from Cromer to Ipswich. The round tower holds a ring of six bells, with a tenor of 9-3-27cwt and tuned to Ab. The bells are a mixed bag; with the tenor cast in 1789 by Thomas Osborn, the fifth in 1652 by John II Brend, the four...
The Bells of Little Walsingham, Norfolk

Little Walsingham, or more specifically, Walsingham, is known as ''England's Nazareth'', having been a place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages and is one of the four great shrines of medieval Christendom, ranking alongside Jerusalem and Rome. Each year over 250,000 people go on pilgrimages to Walsingham to ask Mary to prey to Jesus on their behalf. In 1061, during the reign of St Edward the C...

There are six bells hung in St Peter & St Paul's church in Forncett St Peter. The round tower holds a three tier frame, formed of oak in 1937 by John Taylor and Co, at which point five bells were hung. In 1982 the ring of five was augmented to six with the addition of a treble by John Taylor & Co (Bellfounders) Ltd, at which time an additional steel frame was created by the local ringing commun...

The 300th video on the channel. St Michael's church in Aslacton has a ring of five bells that are hung in the round tower. The bell frame was made in c1614 by Thomas Dymee (or Dymond), of which he made only two recorded bell frames, the other being at St Stephen's in Norwich which houses the unringable ring of three. Aslacton bells are particularly special, however, with them all having been ca...

There is a ring of eight bells hung in St Michael & All Angels church in Whitwell. The ring of six were augmented and rehung in 1979 by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, at which time the ringing room was moved to the present mezzanine floor from the ground floor, and the rope circle changed from anticlockwise to clockwise. Because of the small tower, the bells are hung on 2 levels, which makes for...
The Bells of Shenfield, Essex

The ring of six bells at Shenfield were cast in 1911 by John Warner & Sons, and are hung in a cast iron frame of the same year. The tenor weighs 7-0-20cwt and is tuned to Ab. The tower is a rather impressive wooden structure, and the construction of which is clearly visible from inside the church. The ringing room is accessed via two flights of very steep stairs, and a very narrow alleyway alon...
The Bells of Attleborough, Norfolk

Attleborough is a pleasant little town, although it is sometimes put in the shade by Wymondham, its more famous neighbour. And this church too suffers by comparison with Wymondham Abbey, but it deserves to be better known. In some counties it would stand amongst the highest rank of churches. Pevsner considered it a very stately church in the middle of an uncommonly featureless little town, whic...

The ring of six bells hung at the church of St Mary in Redgrave were primarily cast by Thomas Newman, with the back five having been cast in 1736. In 1785 they were augmented to six by Thomas Osborn at which time they were hung in a new oak frame. In 2019 the bells were rehung, with it being largely a conservation job, which saw the frame repaired and strengthened and minor work being undertake...
The Bells of Stow Bardolph, Norfolk

There are eight bells hung in the Church of the Holy Trinity at Stow Bardolph. Without any peals pre-dating the two trebles (cast in 1870 by John Warner & Sons), I am not sure if they were a ring of six prior to their augmentation. The 3rd and 4th were cast in 1767 by Joseph Eayre, the 5th in 1601 by Newcombe (generic), the 6th in 1775 by Osborn & Arnold (the same year the four trebles at Aylsh...

Excellent! I look forward to seeing it
Yess yayyyy!
Why do you look so sad?
I hope COVID-19 goes away soon
They sound interesting I can see that they are not easy to ring
Tonally they're quite lovely, but the description of that frame sounds like a prime candidate for a rehang.
this ringing chamber looks quite big
The ringing chamber floor used to slope down towards the Tower Arch, and the Balustrade only half the height you see now! Ringing the 3rd was a little scary!
I watched this is awe! I came across the video by accident, but was hooked from the start. The skills and craft involved are incredible. Congratulations on such an amazing piece of work. The dedication and abilities of all of you is truly moving. It must also be wonderful to see a project like this through from start to finish, and to know you're all immortalised in a way for centuries to come. Amazing! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Clapper on thorth needs to be inspected.
No it doesn't, it is fine.
No no there nice.
I quite like them.
These still sound better than old Naylor Steel bells lol.
Pronounced Cos-Tes-Sey, not cossy
Afraid not. It is pronounced 'Cossy'. A common mistake.
Speaking of Joseph mallows bells, Brooke actually contain the heaviest collection of Joseph mallow bells apart from the 4 which was cast we believe in 1478 and the 2 in 1705 and then the treble, third, Fifth and tenor cast in 1758 by Joseph mallows
They sound like a lovely six.
Felsham?
Hi Ollie! Hope all is well. I was wondering if you have any footage at Shipdham in Norfolk? If you do, I would love to see it!!
Hi! I do - I recorded it on the day we came to visit and also rang on the mini ring at the village day (I also have a video of them too and I think you might be in it!). I will upload Shipdham on Sunday for you. 😃

How Hard Is That To Pull That Bell.
Oh god this heart condition sounds absolutely awful. Surprising how someone who’s been hospitalised for issues with their heart rate has shelves stacked with booze!!
The alcohol is not connected to the heart condition. The alcohol lined up on the wall are not generally for regular consumption, with them being Dubonnet (for use with gin or soda), Whiskey (for use with soda or weakened with water) and Buckfast tonic wine which is generally regarded as not being safe for public consumption 😂 The alcohol is not linked or a contributing factor to the heart problems… a person is.
A ring of 5, surely?
