Unboxing and installation of the gen2, 2-rack Pimp My Grill system on a RECTEQ Bull RT-700 pellet grill/smoker.
I love your way and I started to do this but got short on time and just 2 sided taped it and I used plastic corner bead at the bottom and it worked fantastic. Just another option..
@@surfaceworldoceanmaster2865 Cool, glad you found something that worked.
Where did u purchase the lights on the garage
@@rcjunkies213 I got them at Sam’s Club (online).
Nice! Thank you for sharing your video and how to. Now I know what to add with Govee lights. Gobble Gobble!
When you first hooked these up to Bluetooth did you have to stitch the 3 sets together in the app??? I have the large set 14.5 feet and comes with one controller only, so you would think that when you play a scene it would be one complete screen. But oh no mine acts as 3 separate curtains 😳😳😳 and I have looked everywhere to find info on how to get this sorted out. Yes I have seen RUclips videos on where there is a stitching button in the app but not on mine.
Thanks for the video. I just unboxed a 150' set of Gen2s and I have open rafters too. I was planning the same thing with the wood. I test cut some wood and plan on taking it a step further. I will be using a 1 1/4 Forstner bit on the back down to 1/8", then a 3/4' hole saw to the front. I would have to use 1x3 strips though. Also a saw blade cut along the back along the middle for a place to slide the wire in between the lights. If it turns out good maybe I could make my first YT video.
@@ronaldp.2673 Sounds really cool! You should definitely make a video.
Lay down lol
How did you get the three separate screens to project one large display?
@@JIMMYCAMPBELL-x8p On the app, go to devices at the top, then select the first curtain. Hit the settings button on the top right (it looks like a gear) and then select “width expansion”. It’s pretty easy after that.
How did you get the three separate screens to project one large display?
Great video. Instructions were clear, to the point and demonstrated. Thank you. Do you have the V1 or V2 curtain lights? I just got the V2 and I think the piece that goes to the J channel are smaller? SO I'm not sure if the 1/2 J bead (J channel) will still work?
Thanks. These are definitely the V1 lights, so plan accordingly. I don't know much about the V2s.
This video couldn't come at a more appropriate time. I have been struggling for last couple of days to figure out how to secure the bottom of curtain lights. Thank you so much. Btw, just wondering if that velcro tape is easily removable without damage!
Good to hear and good luck! Regarding the wiremold that I used at the bottom, they do work well but I found a couple of strings here and there coming out of the end of them in the last windstorm. I just used a little electrical tape on each end to keep them in there from now on. They will also shift a little here in there inside of the wiremold, and someone said that they used a small dab of hot glue on each string to keep them from shifting. I don't want to put hot glue on them, so I just straighten them out periodically. It's not that bad and they never get tangled up. Regarding the velcro tape, I don't think I'll have an issue getting it off of the garage door in the future. I'll just use Goo Gone or something similar to get the velcro adhesive off. Others have said that they used magnets to stick the J channel to the garage door, which is an excellent idea!
Great job I will be doing mine on my garage door this weekend and on my big window upstairs thank you for all the information
Thank you! Good luck with your installation.
Great video. I had to do a LOT of searching to find something similar. I used the LED channels you might use under cabinets. the pucks slide right into them and the channels were attached to the garage. Until recently, we hadn't had much wind tangling, but I plan to use the diffuser covers the channels came with, and cut slits into those to prevent the tangling. Just some other ideas for people curious about these. The look great, and there are MANY ideas and options that come with them in the app. There is also a section where people upload their display ideas for others to use at their places.
Yes, I love the custom displays! We use them almost exclusively.
Very cool. I've never seen these before. Thanks.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Great suggestions and insight. We park in the driveway so mounting on the door would be a waste but our porch can support 2 curtains. So I mounted them to a 1”x3” 16’ and screwed hooks in the board and the porch and hang them with small chains. The bottoms I ripped a few 1/4” strips off some spare 2x4’s and stapled them to the bottom. Works pretty good and great for storage. 10 min I can have them down and rolled up onto the 1x3.
I just did a similar install on my 16 ft. 2 car metal standard garage door. Instead of using plastic moldings and I purchased the metal wire molding sold at Home Depot in 10 ft lengths. I took the silver sleave on it off and just used the white channel. I had to crimp them a little with my players after I ran the top controller puck for each strand from falling out but just a little squeeze so they wouldn't fall out but I can still move them, slide them to adjust. I Than went to the nail and bolts aisle and picked up rectangular 2pk of magnets and used 4 magnets on each 5 ft section for each track I cut from the 2 10 ft lengths I bought 1 for each of the 3 curtains the magnets stuck to the channel and than to the door. Installed the wiring like you have, and I am able to open and close the door with no issues. There is no issue with the moving or sliding when opening and closing the door. This way I am able to remove them off the door without having adhesive resedue on the door or the adhesive eventually wearing out do to weather conditions. For anyone looking to install them here is another way.
That sounds great. I wish I would have thought of the magnets!
@jasonross4260 I watch a couple videos on how people where mounting them. And since I work at Home Depot I started thinking of what we sold in our electrical and hardware departments to see if I could "MacGyver" a more reliable and easier was to mount them. This is what I came up with. Hopefully twimethose will help others. I will have to post a video of my finished product when I can so others can see, try it as well.😊
Can you post a link of what you used ?
@keithhammerquist9136 Home Depot Sku# for magnets 902262 and 715496 for the 2 10ft. Metal raceway wire metal covers cut to 5 ft lengths for each of the 3 curtains. I used 4 magnets on each 5 ft pieces sold in 2 packs. Hope that helps
@@masgrafxracing THANK YOU SO MUCH
I wrote a comment that had the links to ask of these products, but it disappeared for some reason
I added the links for the j-channel and the wiremold.
do you have links to amazon for the j channels or the 5 foot cord for the bottom
Just added to the video description. The products are from Home Depot. I couldn't find the exact products on Amazon, but you can probably find something similar.
@@backyardjunkwithJ thanks this you are amazing !
I used the same track for the bottom of my lights. I also put a dab of hot glue on each wire to hold them in place since the wind started to push the wires around. Plus used some bungee cords going from the tracks under the door to hold them down, it still allows up and down movement, but keeps them from blowing around
Great ideas. Do you worry about the bungee cords tugging on them too much? How long have you had them up?
My govee lights failed less then 80 days in. Not worth the money. But I installed them using vinyl hooks and a piece of pvc pipe. But great video
Sorry to hear that. Ours have been up for about 80 days at this point and still going strong. I do expect them to fail at some point, but I was hoping to get a couple of years or so out of them.
they have a 365 day warrenty
Looks great! How far down from the top did you attach the lights?
I measured and they are 3 3/4" (just below 4") from the top of the garage door frame. I didn't know that measurement until just now when I went and looked, because I just eyeballed it when I was putting them up. I placed them far enough away from the top to give the power cords some room to get through the top of the door, and then I made sure that the three J-channels were straight going across by following the decorative panel line on the garage door.
Great! Thanks for the info 😊
Nice video. I did a similar setup with the velcro . In Texas its not always cold weather so the adhesive would stop working. So this year I purchased some magnets and screwed them into the channels. I did a test from inside my garage so the heat just building up. The curtains at holding on good.
Good idea on the magnets! I wish I would have thought of that. I put these up at the end of August and there were a lot of 100+ degree days here in California after that - they held on fine. But we don't have humidity in CA, so I don't know if that made a difference. Also, this velcro is specifically made for outdoor use.
Thanks for the idea to secure the bottom. I have these on order for Christmas and that was the first thing I was contemplating due to we have wind in December.
You're welcome. Just an update on this after months of use and a few wind storms - the string lights will still move around a bit in the wiremold on the bottom and you may have to re-adjust some of them sometimes. But they don't get twisted up or way out-of-whack. One of the light strings on the edge did slip out of the wiremold once, so I wrapped a little white electrical tape around both ends of each stick. That did the trick.
have you had a chance to see if there is enough space to fit brisket on bottom and top at the same time? hard to tell the spacing between each rack
Unpopular opinion obviously, but I'm not a brisket fan 😃. Having said that, I measured and it's just over 4.5" between the top and bottom grate. I think that would fit a brisket just fine.
@ haha ya thats definitely blasphemy not liking brisket. Thanks I’ll have to measure a couple and see if that will get me the room I need
Okay... I have zero knowledge on the health concerns... But.. I would never cook chicken on top of any other meat... like I wouldn't cook pork on top of beef.. I'd put beef on top, pork on bottom ...
Now that you've had it for a few months any updates? Still holding up?
I've had them for more than a couple of months now and have cooked on them a bunch. I'm planning to publish a follow-up video soon. They work perfectly. I love being able to move the trays in and out, and it doesn't affect cooking temp or airflow at all. Cleaning out the grill is still easy, because the trays are simple to remove. The drip pan was a little more difficult to get back in the grill with the tray support rails in the way, but not too bad. I just had to angle it a bit differently. Some juice does drip on the ground when you have the trays out in the middle of a cook. I just laid a big black trash bag flat underneath the trays on the ground in front of the grill, with the grill wheels keeping it down. I plan on getting the Recteq accessory table later on, which will help with catching the drippings.
Follow up video is going up today.
I have a camp chef Woodwind Pro. I have a few issues with there racks. 1. There are very few review videos out there (other than yours and the manufacturer). 2. You're almost inclined to buy the table that they make because once you pull out the rack, I can see juice and grease spilling out. 3. Wow, pulling out a rack that's in 350* is hot. 4. And how about cleaning. Would you mind providing an update on how you still feel about them. Thanks

Is that safe to use
What part are you referring to?
I'm pulling the trigger on this. No drill is awesome
It works perfectly, I've already done several cooks on it. I can fit four pounds of thin-sliced jerky on these two trays also.

Been thinking about getting this setup but I already have optional second rack. I rarely use it
Totally get it. I love using mine to cook a lot of jerky and a lot of ribs. The top rack really isn't in the way when I'm not using it and I can pop it out if I have to. Also, I love being able to pull out the food and check on it using the rack so I don't have to have my face in the smoky grill.
I love my recteq grills! New sub here!
Thanks! I do too.
Well put together. Audio could use some help, but i know mics can be expensive, so no worries.
Thanks for your response! You're correct, I definitely need a good mic setup.
@@backyardjunkwithJ Remember not to go too far too quickly. Start with what you can afford and build from there. Number 1 cause for failure on this platform is trying to do more than you are able to before you are ready to support that effort.
That looks really nice and it seems really sturdy!
Yes, very sturdy. I’m going to have to make a video showing how much food can go on them and how the weight doesn’t affect them at all - even when they are pulled completely out.
Wow you make it look so easy
Looks good!
I like your tee shirt too. 😂
