Another TEMU Condenser Mic Review - TF22 - Telefunken TF29 Clone
Welp, I broke down and did it. I bought another weird "studio" microphone from TEMU. However, even with my hopes slightly raised after the experience I had with the U87 clone I got from there, I never expected what happened with this microphone. Absolutely blown away by it (sorry for the spoilers, but I am just so pumped about this mic).
However, like I said in the update at the end, this item is, unfortunately, no longer available on TEMU (or anywhere from what I can tell). I will regularly monitor TEMU and if it becomes available again, I will add a link here or in the comments for you all
If you are feeling super generous though and want to support me, here is an affiliate link for TEMU...

In today's video we are recording the Sony ECM-95S, which was produced in the 1970's to record to tape players. I have to be honest, I don't care for the Blue mic you use as your main mic. It's overly bright to my ears. So the comparison to the Temu could not be more dramatic, since it seems to emphasize the lows very much. The Temu has a deeper, warmer tone, but the lows are almost too much. For the price it is extremely good. If I had to choose one, it would be the Temu.

I bought one and compared it to an audio-techica. at2020 and I too was. blown away by the quality. I also tried to run it down on Temu and elsewhere. but. no go. Will use it again for singing tracks in my song productions. I also used an Antares mic modifier at the input, which allows choices of many mike models... like Neuman's U87 and some tube saturation if you want. Still experimenting with what works best.

I would guess some of these mics come from the same factories in China that make expensive mics for well-known brand names? Maybe even with the same internals. The downside is that you really have no warranty if they break after a year. Whereas buying from somewhere like Gear4Music, Thomann or Bax there is a three year warranty as standard. And in some cases the price difference isn't huge.

Looks to be the same mic as the Monoprice Stage Right Condenser mic. I think the LC500 or LC100. @@skyclutcher9794 They're not "bad" microphones, they just have a certain tinny sound to them that many dislike. Kind of like how Rode NT1-A's have that sibilance to them. It's subjective, if you like a certain sound of a microphone or not. If you're willing to buy second hand i would consider Rode NT1(the black one), Rode NT2-A , Lewitt 440 (Can get them for similar price second hand and they're all great microphones) IIRC Lewitt 240 is same price as the AT2020 and i prefer the sound of that a bit better. Those second hand options i listed are very options though, i bought a Rode NT2-A for 200€ and sold it for the same price a year later.

You can modify it so that it's very close to the original. There is a "bare cardioid path" mod for it that can be put together on a tight budget. You only need some decent capsule and some transformer like Neutrik, 3u or UTM. In the end you get a professional mic for he price of an Aston. You can also make it cheaper and keep the capsule and only use the circuit. There is a couple components that can be added to shape the response.

I'm *starting* to build a little cheap, no frills podcasting-ready "home studio" for myself, and I ordered a very similar mic from Temu (I should have it in about 1 more week, giddy with anticipation!) and I admit, I know virtually nothing about interfaces and speakers, you know, all that stuff that makes a flipping studio!! Alas! I am a drummer, and I play an acoustic kit & for *where* it is set up, in a very large, thick brick sanctuary of a church, the drums themselves don't need to be mic'd up apart from the kick drum, which has a Shure Beta 52A kick drum mic in front of it. It was plugged into the small amp that sits behind me. Sadly, the small amp went away along with its owner and I don't know what on earth else I can plug it into if need be. Cheap suggestions? If I picked up a Temu interface or mixer or whatever, DUMB QUESTION, but what program or laptop app supports a USB mic?? Should I get one of the Temu basic mixing boards? I will probably sell the Shure, but I'm not...Shure. It is soldered onto it's base, courtesy of my old bass player. I'm all full of puns today. Thanks in advance!!

It's nice because it breaks the switch onto its own connection ans the mic onto its own connection. I don't know what it is about square microphones they don't make them that much anymore and they look cool. The sound of my duet firewire is suck when I connect balanced monitors to the duet’s unbalanced output’s. I thought I’m listening really quality sound. But when I tried connect monitors via headphone output it was 9000% difference. Sound from main output like mono and with lowcut filter in comparison of headphone output. Also I hear huge noise when in 44100 mode from headphone jack but not from 48khz. The huge noise is also when I connect’s Apple Studio Display to the macbook. And if you type something or use trackpad/mouse this noise is so annoying… So the quality of the DUET is not so good (( 😢 Next is drivers and maesto which not working with M1. Yes I can make it working if type a few commands in terminal under safe mode when booting mac os. But after each mac update they removes firewire driver again and again…. I got a AU Volt 176 and don’t have now any issues and don’t have this LOUD noise.

Clean but hollow is actually a fantastic way of describing the sound. It weirdly also has an almost non-existent proximity effect. I have a degree in audio engineering, so I’m very comfortable working in a DAW, but am still very much learning my way around video editing software and definitely appreciate feedback on that front (and this video was one of the most challenging videos I’ve made because the audio switches tracks so frequently)
