This kind of behavior, meaning the dirty dangerous head hunting hits proves guys like Don Cherry were right. Advocates of keeping fighting in the game had always said that fighting allowed the players to police the game. If fighting were taken out of the game or the penalties and rule changes would hamper fighting as a retaliatory mechanism , that it would lead to a more dangerous game because players would find other ways to get even. This video and the fact that there have been more players taken off the ice in stretchers over the last 20 years than in the 70 years prior to that proves that point. Nobody was ever seriously hurt in a hockey fight to my knowledge ,yet I see a parade of players taken off the ice on stretchers over the last 20 years . One of them suffering a broken neck. This is all because the NHL hired a nerdy lawyer with no hockey knowledge and allowed him to create rule changes that have resulted in this kind of behavior. Garry Bettmen is the WORST thing to EVER happen to the NHL.
