Two weeks ago I motorcycled 3,100miles across the continent with a lifetime goal of seeing the Pacific Ocean. I was only 150 miles out and my bike fell in the Mojave, crushing my left hand and dislocating a finger as well as tearing and spraining ligaments. After 24 hours, I could move three other fingers but with pain. I was told to turn back, but I stood in a parking lot and watched this over and over, starring at the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. I knew it would be hard but not finishing the trip would be worse. I got on the bike and continued west. Omg, this video saved me and made me succeed. Watching Ethan go from this beast mode role to that defeated wimp he played in his latest movie is disheartening 🙄

This was a good movie but inaccurate in a few parts. For example the survivors knew ahead of time that Nandi and Roberto had been found - they heard it on the radio. And further the suffering they went through was very watered down for the film. During the hike out of the mountains one of them suffered such awful diarrhea and constipation at the same time. Obviously they left that part out but it’s just one example of the misery they went through. The movie is good but the book is an incredible inspiration of what people can do and survive. In 2024 there’s a movie on Netflix called Society of Snow which is a a little more accurate. Nonetheless I truly enjoyed this film. There are also documentaries about their ordeal here on RUclips. Roberto went on to become a highly respected doctor and Nando did a variety of things and occasionally he is a guest speaker at seminars and such around the world. I would love to meet him and shake his hand

I have been very fortunate to have seen this classic and extremely happy to have found a vinyl copy of the music soundtrack.

Society of the Snow made this movie look like a red headed step child.

Wow the fast running in the end....... did they really think the 2 guys would have the energy to do that? They fast forward that whole part of their yourney. Hollywood at it's finest. The new movie is so much better and I actually had tears in my eyes at the end.

This movie is Terrible. Where’s their gear. They couldn’t talk so easily after reaching the top of the mountain; the air was so thin and they were exhausted. This is embarrassing to watch.

These guys don’t even look like they’re starving and why are they speaking English? Spanish would make the movie more realistic..I’m glad they made society of the snow coz it looks so real

The worst part of this is you can't even sue the pilot. He's dead. You can't even blame this one on Boeing.

Having watched the Society of the snow, I really miss important plot points in this 1993 version of the events. American movies, often simplify stories and focus on one or two heroes. In fact, this was a team effort and the 72 days stranded in the snow was a relay race of sorts. The leader of the pack does , and someone else takes his place. Every member of the team focuses on specific tasks that allow these two protagonists to go and find some help As a Chilean I really regret that they, simply ignore the very last leg of their trip when they find a Shepherd who rides 10 hours to report to the authorities triggering an unprecedented rescue operation. Anyone from South America who looks at the green valleys of Chile in this movie realize that those are not the green valleys of Chile. It doesn’t match the geography of that part of Chile or Argentina: those are the wrong trees and clearly shows that the scene was filmed in Canada.

That’s funny that they’re still so clean shaven and kinda polished looking after what, 60ish days on the mountain here. And it’s a shame that this version skipped the 10 day trek of Nando and Roberto in my opinion.

if ya going to make a movie that takes place in the cold at least get the breathing right or else it just looks false

This is a remarkable story. But in this scene, shouldn’t they be referring to the 60 days (not 70 days) they had survived? Eventually it was a bit over 70 days. But at the point, they hadn’t done the 10 day hike through the mountains

'You see where the sun's going to set, that way's west and to the west are the green valleys of Chile'. Surely the most inspirational lines ever spoken in a desperate bid to survive.

I had this movie on tape growing up. Watched it so many times. Maybe this is why I have an unrelenting will..

The only Leone film that disappointed me. Christopher Frayling makes me want to rewatch it but then seeing Rod Stieger over act turns me off again. Too bad Eastwood and Wallach didn't star in this film, that would make it epic!

The inaccuracy here is that Nando was actually the tallest, strongest and most muscular of the passengers by *a lot* It really makes this scene different if you picture it like that.
