2021 Ski Doo Expedition Sport 600 EFI
Hope you’re doing well! Sure hope you make more views this year!! I would check your pipe.. I had to replace mine this year on an identical sled due to it rusting out! 😢
Thanks very much for your informative tutorial. I just purchased a 23 backcountry sport and this was very helpful as I installed the USB plug kit in the glove box.
U did a great video of explaining the proper way to do a full maintenance check.
Thanks! I wanted to create a reference for the 600 EFI community to properly maintain their machines on their own - seems to be helping!
Get the 900 ace
Awesome. Same sled my wife and I rock with.
Привет, друг. В каком костюме катаешься?
To be honest, the blue jacket was a plain winter jacket from Costco and the pants are downhill ski pants I got on discount at Sportchek! I like wearing this because it fits tight, but it's only good down to about -20°C. If it's colder than that, I wear my Ski-Doo Vasa floating suit.
Спасибо. TOBE хорошие костюмы ?
Great video thanks for taking the time to do this.
No problem! More to come.
I agree you don’t need a turbo or a 900 ACE to get those speeds, very good video BTW. I am a second year user and my sled is powered with the 900 ACE Turbo (130hp) I am also not a speed demon. I chose to go on experienced feedback to select my sled and power plant. I will say this though… If you ever find yourself on slushy ice while crossing a lake, you will be thankful to have that extra HP cause it will shoot you out of a slush pocket in short order. I know cause I ran into that very situation. I also credit the fact that I built my sled with the Cobra ice 20 inch track and 7.4 Pilot skies. Never a bad idea to have a little more than what you need… Just in case.
Agreed, and that 20" wide track would really increase the [already large] footprint. I think mine has the 16" wide track (that's all they offered on the 600 EFI)
I was told when Towing have it flat when trail riding have it up when breaking trail have it set free
Makes sense: having it up will improve steering due to shorter track contact. Towing will be easier down because more traction. And breaking trail requires occasional reversing, which is easier if the track can lift to climb on top of the snow. Good advice.
Ive got the 900 ace version of this and its awesome. Great for riding and ice fishing.
I have a friend who loves the ACE engines, but he also loved my Expedition, so he bought himself the Expedition Sport 600 ACE last winter. We'll do a 600 EFI vs 600 ACE drag race this winter!
Merci !
bienvenue!
I just ordered two replacements for my 2017 Sea Doo after the dealership told me I need to get my ski off my lift, on my trailer, and bring it to them... BRILLIANT IDEA!
Great to hear my videos are helping like-minded enthusiasts! Which Sea-Doo do you ride? I’m thinking about getting one.
Very very good. Do you know how to adjust the oil pump, The manual says to do it annually,
I can't seem to find that in my user manual. Mine says to pull the adjuster with the engine running to 'fog' the engine with oil before storing it for the summer. What page of the owner's manual calls for the oil adjustment?
@@mop1471 They list it as an item in the maintenance schedule table. I would have to look at my manual to see which page but it might be different than yours anyway. You should have that same table though.
You ever use any other oils for the skidoo? Like different brands other then XPS fuel synthetic,,, like blue coloured 2T snowmobile oil
I only go through 1 or 2 jugs a season, so I choose to use the Ski-Doo XPS oil recommended by my dealer. My son uses 2-stroke oil from Canadian Tire and it seems to work fine too, but it’s only a few bucks cheaper than XPS oil.
@@mop1471 thanks,, same, i never used anything else other then xps full synthetic too,,, just wondering in case i have to use other oil
Used your video, again… for my year end to do list, thank you
happy to help!
I have a similar model I notice it runs fine while driving kinda fast I notice my sweet spot is 40-45 kmh keeps the temp at 45 I guess it cools it down but while towing wood at 25 it over heats can’t tow constantly I liked the older ones I could haul all day now I can only do a couple trips if it’s warm but they’ve all done something like that some are better then others next skidoo I’m buying I’m going back to the one I know can haul and is reliable roughly around 2010-15 all the newer ones I’ve worked with don’t last towing the older one I used every day towing for almost 3 winters with no problems
Since the 2021 recall, it really hasn't been a problem for me. Ice scratchers really helped a lot during that first season. I do occasionally get warnings if I'm filming, but that's because I'm stopped, idling a lot and driving very, very slowly (10kph.)
@@mop1471 I’m just figuring them out after looking into them I’m gonna get myself scratchers and wetter water whatever that is to me it feels like more work keeping an eye on the temp having to dip into snow here I was trying to be careful going slow staying on packed trail but here I was harming my sled and they don’t idle anymore I used to keep em running while hauling wood after dark now I’m in the dark in the bush I live where I couldnt take it in for recall I’m stuck with it here when people break there stuff that’s just it even my aunts and work ski doos brand new broken I’m glad I’m getting some money out of mine atleast I’ve seen people saying they had problems of the bat but had warranty people don’t know about them I’m feeling mine out the gas has to be close to full all the time to helps cool and I think water gets in there since they have to dip in snow when I open my gas cap it just pops up so it’s sucking
Any updates? I hope all is well, but I miss your videos on the 600 efi!
Thanks! Only problem this year was lack of snow. Trails around me (Northern Ontario) didn't even open this year. Trailered to Quebec for a week, but wasn't able to make content on that trip.
We had an interesting snow year down here as well. My 2021 expedition 600 efi sprung an exhaust leak on our trip into the cabin last weekend. What’s your miles or kilometer count on yours so far? Just wondering how your maintenance has been / any more repairs then the ski etc? Thank you and if you ever make it down to Yellowstone National park or the Tetons be sure to look me up!
just because i dont want to take the whole front off, instead of taking the spark plugs out and spraying engine protectant, why not just turn the engine on every month to keep everything lubricated? I know you are just following the manual, i am wondering if that is another solution.
I wanted to document the by-the-book storage procedure. Popping off the front bodywork is no bit deal, takes about 5 mins with a bit of practice.
Great review. Thanks for the detail
Or you could add ice scratchers and solve the overheating problem real quick
It has ice scratchers, and they work well: ruclips.net/video/7PkPPeE5xvI/видео.html
That's pretty sad to be overheating on a trail. Does the heat exchanger go all the way to the rear of the tunnel? Right at the rear curve of the track is where the most snow is thrown. I have a 2016 backcountry 600 etec that just fryed a ECM, why don't they know. so I figure dependability is gone now. Season will be over by the time we get an ECM. I was looking at a backcountry 600 EFI. Is overheating going to be an issue with that engine?
The heat exchanger extends pretty far back, but not right to the edge. Since the 2021 recall, overheating really hasn't been a problem at all. It'll happen if I'm moving at low speeds and stopping alot (which I sometimes do because I'm filming these videos!) Never overheats during regular riding.
Have you ever found a source for traditional ley blanks? My local ski-doo dealer claims they can't get blanks, and that I have to get a whole ignition instead.
I've never tried! I'll look into it in my area.
@@mop1471 thanks! I have this same machine, and your videos have been hugely helpful to me. Please make more!
Been looking into purchasing one of these for "short" open water work around the islands in far north queensland - would you recommend something like this?
The boat is super-fast and very low maintenance. Low draft as well. But challenging in rough waters.
@@mop1471 Thank you for your reply : I would imagine in rough waters - It is not my intention on getting into big swells but I have seen this little 150 speedster like this ruclips.net/video/jUobe-jhkDI/видео.html
How do you find this machine in deep snow? 3’ +
It floats on top. Very weird when you stop off the running board and fall so deep in the powder you have a hard time climbing back on to the sled, which is still up at the surface!
Здравствуйте! Скажите пожалуйста а что у него за проблема с блоком управления на модели 2020 года?
This one’s a 2021, and it was an all new engine for that year, so I don’t have knowledge of the 2020 models.
Not clear which color wire goes where
- The Orange wire is connected towards the rear of the vehicle (pin 8 on the switch if labelled, rearmost pin otherwise.) - The Red wire is connected in the centre (pin 6 on the switch if labelled, middle of the 3 pins otherwise.) - The Orange/Violet wire is connected towards the front of the vehicle (pin 5 on the switch if labelled, frontmost pin otherwise.) I hope this helps!
Almost MoP season! If we ever get some snow I hope you've got some more videos for us!!
Thanks for the note! More vids on the way for sure! I’m afraid it might be awhile because there’s almost no snow at all in Sudbury, and we have rain forecast for this week!
@@mop1471 same story in Kenora area. I'm dreaming of a brown Christmas :(
how the heck are you leaning that sled without standing up????? I can barely get my 09 to lean unless i throw my entire body weight into it. Its exhausting.
The Expedition is a bit narrower than trail sleds, which helps a bit. But mostly, you need to start the process by steering away from the direction of the lean, find the balance point, and hold it there. Once the sled is up on one ski, it’s just like riding a bike!
that working on my skidoo mxz 600 sdi 2007
This service is for RF DESS keys only. I don’t think Ski-Doo was using the RF system in 2007. Take a look at your key: if it has metal contacts inside, then it’s not RF.
Great video, I have one question you said that your spacers are two 1/4”pcs put together making a total of 1/2” thick?
That is correct, a single 1/4” spacer didn’t raise the mount enough for the gas can to clear the ridge on the lid of the cargo box, so I made a second set of 1/4” spacers for a total of 1/2”. Of course, now that I know this, I could re-make the spacer out of 1/2” material, but too lazy ;)
full on snow dogg.!
your video lost its audio at the 8:22 mark and comes back on at the 10:26 mark of the video
sorry for that, YT muted that section due to music copyright or something. But thanks for letting me know!
Does this work on a 1998 dess key
works on RF DESS keys. I’m not sure, but I think a 1998 key would have had the metal contacts inside, so the RF Dooplicator service would not copy the 1998 key.
thank for this AWSOME VIdeo.... I have the 2022 Ski Doo Expedition Sport 600 EFI, question related to charging the battery , on your video and also on my machine as well, there looks to be a Charing Tether you can use to charge battery ? Is that what it is or is that for something different ?
That 2-pin connector is the rear passenger heated grips wiring harness. The Expedition Sport includes the harness from the factory, but does not include the rear heated grips. Since the harness was factory installed, rear heated grip installation was made easier than it otherwise would have been!
Keep it up !! Just waiting on my skid Plate to come in and picking up my new 2024 expedition 600 efi in the next couple weeks.
I hope you love it! A close friend ordered one with the 600ACE for this season, so hoping to make some good comparison videos between the two engines in the same model of sled.
I have a 2019 Expedition Sport, do these come stock with DS2? Also, would you recommend the DS2 or ski skins? Most of my riding is off trail
I've never had ski-skins on this Expedition, but I've tired them on a Tundra. Different experience: the skins won't sink at all because they're super-wide. The DS2 will sink, which can be helpful in some situations. If you intend to tip your sled on its side to get through difficult terrain, DS2 is better. If you're going to keep your sled upright, with both skis on the ground, ski-skins all day.
Good video. Idk if youre aware, audio cut out for a good portion in the middle of video. Critical info missed out on. Thanks for these. Just got a 2023 skandic 600 efi.
Yeah, sorry about that, the background music caused a problem with youtube, and my options were to remove the video, or just mute the portion with the song. Not ideal.
I just started following I'm looking at getting a 2024 ski-doo expedition sport 600 efi , i want a new sled and the wife wanted a two up , this video will make getting her heated bars easy! Very knowledgeable videos
I've really been enjoying the 600EFI, and it's a great value for a 2-up sled. While you're doing the rear heated grips, you might as well get the rear heated visor connector too. Otherwise, you'll have to take the whole handle apart again to do the visor plug later.
@mop1471 Thanks for the advice, just have to find one now , a place near gravenhurst says they'll be getting some in , and put one aside for us
The dealer here in Sudbury keeps a good stock of the heated grips, and I would imagine most dealers do. Good luck with the install: it is a bit of work. Take your time and double (or triple) check everything before cutting the plastics (I nearly cut the switch opening in the wrong side!!!)
DESS might be pretty reliable, but it ain't trapline reliable
DESS is inevitably far more complex. I rather like that my 600EFI has a plain old key ignition.
would this work on a 2015 sp summit
If your '15 Summit has the RF DESS key, then yes, it will work. You can identify the RF DESS by the plastic 'ball' you snap your key onto. If it's all plastic, they you have RF DESS. If it has a metal ring and a metal contact on the top, then it's the original DESS (not RF DESS.)
Hello please I need help. My kids jammed something in my ignition switch on my 600 efi . Am I able to switch the ignition. Do keys come with new ignitions?
Oh my! The good news is that your 600 EFI has a 'classic' ignition switch, meaning there is no expensive 'chip in the key' or anything expensive like that. A new ignition switch would have to include a key - how else would you operate it! First step is to try to dislodge whatever is jamming the ignition. I would try using a strong magnet, which may extract metallic objects stuck in the ignition. If that doesn't work, very fine screwdrivers or picks may be inserted to try to clear the obstruction. If you can't dislodge whatever is in there, then replace the ignition switch. It's just an old-fashioned key switch. My '21 Expedition's ignition switch is part number 515177063 and costs $59 up here in Canada. You'll have to remove the upper bodywork to gain access under the dash panel - this may take you a bit of time if you've never done it before, but it's really not that bad (see my video linked below.) Once you remove the body work, there will be a connector on the back of the switch to remove, and a nut holding the switch in place. Remove those, put your new switch into the dash, replace the nut and connector, then reinstall your bodywork and you should be as good as new. Removing the upper bodywork: ruclips.net/video/qsRA-84wsU0/видео.html Let us know how it works out!
I will let you know.last season it was mid January b4 we had enough snow.
can you get an optional recoil with the 600 efi like you can for the 600 etec?
Good question. I'll look into it. I'd like a recoil starter as a backup, so if it's offered, I'll make an install vid!
Just checked with my dealer: Yes! They offer a pull start kit for 600 EFI! It’s $260 up here in Canada. Might pick one up - my 600 EFI has never let me down, but I’d like a pull start, just in case.
@@mop1471 nice, looking forward to the install video, have a ace, dont like the fact that I can not pull start when needed. Might have to go with a 600 efi if it works out.
what kind of mileage are you getting with the 600 efi and how does it do in extreme cold temps for starting, like -40 F? Great videos, doing research before getting one as I am use to the 600 ace in past models.
Fuel and Oil consumption documented right here my friend! ruclips.net/video/oaB36RJx6lo/видео.html Extreme cold: if it doesn't start right away, hold the throttle open and try again to avoid flooding the engine. It hasn't let me down yet. Coldest day so far was about -36°C.
Great l will try adjustments. Thanks
Let me know how it works out. I'm planning to do a series of suspension adjustment videos next winter, and your feedback would be helpful!
Great.l got sound on most of the video but around the middle of the video l lost your volume.Hope to see new video in fall. Can you resolve a problem with my 600 efi. sport expedition. The ski doo tips over at slow speeds. On a hard packed trail if you run up the hard packed edges it will tip. If I am on a back trail and get to close to the deep snow either side of trail the ski doo will tip over.
My Expedition was shipped with all suspension adjustments set to the 'softest' settings (the least pre-load.) Try tightening up your front spring pre-load. You'll need to use the suspension adjustment wrench on the clutch cover. Adjust it just 1 or 2 clicks at a time, then test ride it. I found the snowmobile much less prone to tipping with the front springs adjusted tighter. I settled on a setting of 4 out of 5 on the left and right front springs (that's 1 click from the highest pre-load on the front.) Leave the rear springs as soft as possible (only increase the rear spring preload if you're bottoming out.) For me, this dramatically improved handling, stability and reduced darting.
No volume when you explained the right side of ski doo .Can you re-do u tube video.
Sorry for that: I had royalty-free music in the video, but YT flagged it. My options were either a) give all revenues to whomever claimed ownership of the song or b) mute the disputed section of the vid. I'll replace this vid with an updated 3-yr pre-season service next fall.
Lol was expecting you too drive on the water,,, hahahaha
Haha, no, I’m not brave enough to try that!
@@mop1471 same lol,,,
Does it have the self oil fog option in the dash?
No, that feature is not present on the 600 EFI.
Great info! Here in the Yukon with 10-12” fresh snow and pulling a loaded sled I burned about 5 gallons 25l in just a bit more than 100k in my 2014 expedition 600 e-tec.
Sounds about right. These groomed trails and controlled speeds were best-case scenario for fuel consumption.
