UMEP 6: Climate-sensitive planning (scenario modelling) of outdoor thermal comfort with SOLWEIG
The purpose of this tutorial is to explain how to conduct climate-sensitive scenario planning with SOLWEIG. The video explains how to develop different outdoor thermal comfort scenarios by modelling the effects of four heat mitigation strategies: (1) tree planting, (2) shading devices (buildings and artificial canopies), (3) green roofs and (4) vertical greenery systems (or green walls/facades).

    thanks for this tutorial. I got a Python error when I press the running model "TypeError: can only concatenate str (not "NoneType") to str". How to solve? I am sure the spatial data are correct.

      Without knowing what your data looks like. This error occurs when python expects a string to be somewhere, but isntead there is nothing ('nonetype'). Common causes of this is your data not being saved correctly, e.g. when you use semicolon seperators instead of comma seperators, or there are empty fields where there should be data.

    Can you use instead of the DEM the CDSM? Because in the CDSM are the buildings and trees already rasterized.

    Great Job! If I just take a temperature picture of a building's vertical facet and I have the 3D point cloud of such a building, can I attach the pixel value from a picture to the corresponding 3D pointcloud?     Nothing happened when I added the SHP file Edit: looks like I had to update Urbano, but even when I did update it, it wasn't working. Had to uninstall Urbano from 'Control Panel' and install the newest version. Leaving this here incase anyone runs into this later on.

    why does everyone press yes to lower points in las file to import into cloudcompare? what if i want all of the points? isnt it taking away from the quality of my scan?

      I eliminate points when I bring a cloud into CAD. I don't need all the points (esp across the surface of planes) and it just makes things heavier. All I really care about are edges so I can trace them into vector line work.

    You are the most knowledgeable source I've found on the internet regarding Docofossor. I'm currently experiencing difficulties when attempting to import my ASC files into Grasshopper while retaining their original origins. Unfortunately, they all end up at the coordinates 0,0,0, and I'm struggling to align my ASC file tiles correctly. I suspect the issue might be related to the "sx" and "sy" components of the plugin. Could you provide guidance on how to manipulate these settings to prevent the automatic placement of my ASC tile files at the origin point (0,0,0)? Thank you so much!

    Hit here, Carlos! Thanks for your videos, they are highly useful. I was able to import my mesh (ImportXYZ > GridShift > GridRegion > GridMesh). I have made some modifications in the mesh within Rhino, as I find gives me greater flexibility instead of the terrain modifications on Docofossor. Now, I need to export this modified mesh to a XYZ again. However, I need the grid/mesh not to be shifted (therefore, I can't export directly from Rhino). Is there any way I can achieve this?

    Hi Carlos, thanks for the video! Could you explain if the attribute table has to be named in a specific way for urbano to take the correct metadata? My attribute table has different height related to different building plots. But urbano extrudes them all at the same height. I checked the keys and values using deconstruct meta data and it seems the data is available but urbano doesn't use it when extruding building models.

I have the DSM and DEM files, but not the CDSM. In the DSM file that I have, the trees and buildings are mixed. Is there a way that I can somehow create a CDSM file from that?

    Hi Carlo, how can I solve the problem of the error that gives me as soon as I insert the last value of the Panels as soon as I finish connecting them to the "Download DEM and Build Terrain Mesh" component it turns red, I double-checked the limits in OpenStreetMap and I followed point by point importing the same region. The whole procedure of the Tutorial really instructive, I will never end up thanking you. I await instructions with confidence.

      Of course it is possible to edit the metadata outside of grasshopper, and work with it in grasshopper with a C# or Python node, but all this obviously requires more knowledge in coding. I dont know if there is a plugin with this specific capabilities you are asking for, probably not.

    Hello Carlos, I have downloaded the DTM.tiff from Nasa, and tried to convert it to ASC through QGIS. I got cell 0.000277777778 (which I believe is 1 arc second). Can I simply just change the 0.000277777778 number to 30 and set the unit in Rhino to meter? Thank you

      You'll get relatively proper distances and shapes only close to equator using file containing geographic data. To have better results you must use a program able to apply a projection (ortographic for example) to geographic data such as Global Mapper (or maybe QGIS). Thus you can get your data in meters. Besides, an ASC file is often interpreted as a kind of a pole as figures representing levels have much bigger spectrum than those representing longitude and lattitude for a relatively small area.
