I leave August 6th for Cape May, thankyou for the advice. I will keep that in my mind pushing through the long 8weeks.
Best of luck!
How long do you get to shower?
It was usually 30 seconds to a minute or two if you were lucky.
Channel member? How do we join?? I’m off to boot camp God willing in January, looking forward to it. Thanks for the video
Thank you! There should be a button next to the subscribe button right under the video that says "Join".
Amt 15-18month Then pretty much 2 years if i pass it.
12-15 months IM COOKED
your videos have been a huge help for me, leaving to boot camp as we speak
Good luck! Let me know how it went.
Thank you so much for your time in making this video! Only 17 days left and I’m nervous but also super excited for this new journey. I feel good on the physical, but more training definitely can’t hurt lol. I also feel good in the required knowledge I just need to study those 11 general orders because from what I hear they quiz you on those all the time. Thanks for this video, it was super helpful!
I can vividly remember my experiences from Tracen Cape May 34 years ago. Those experiences left a lasting impression on me and certainly made me a better person for my subsequent careers. Last year I had the pleasure of watching my son graduate in Cape May on Labor Day weekend and that will always be something I will hold onto forever.
I love your videos and they are really helping me. I am actually getting ready to head out to boot camp as I ship out July 23rd, 2024. I've been doing nothing but preparing for the sleep schedule, I live in the same time zone as Cape May. I have also been working out and working on my run to make sure I get as close as I can to 12:51.
I ship out to cape may July 30th thank you for the video huge help!
Good luck! Let me know how it went when you get back.
@@CGCareerCentral Alright just curious my goal is to finish honor grad physically I pass the pt with flying colors but is there anyway that I could really stand out to the rest of my company to be selected for that aside from excelling in academics as well?
As far as I can remember Honor Grad simply goes to whomever scores the highest average on all the tests. I don't think it's voted on by the Company or anything like that. It's just objective.
Wishing you all the best at bootcamp!
Boot camp is going to be a stressful time. I heard coast guard boot camp is the worst, if so, it’s because of the mental stress you undergo. I have a hard time believing it’s harder than the marines though. Your shipmates will help you through, especially your company commanders. It won’t seem like it, but everything they do has a purpose and serves a goal. When you leave camp, you will do things out of force of habit because you had to zero your lock. So learn to have fun and boot camp will go easier. Spend the last few weeks getting accustomed to a strict 10-5:30am, set your alarm, and then never lay down durning the day. For me, I was tired all the time and cherished the moments to sit and think when allowed to. Find your zen place and reflect on your goals. There are hidden people on base that are there help you. For me it was the HS’s in sickbay. For some it will be the base Chaplains, and even the instructors. They will be the quiet people that help you understand the material and gently nudge you in the right direction. They won’t be in your face and punishing you, they will treat you like they’re your mentor at your new duty station. Every where and every week you can find them. For me it was during fire arms training and in damage control week. Pretty much everybody is there to help you get through boot camp and get you out in to the fleet. Some are stricter than others, but in reality, it was all an act, and you are relatively equals. When you graduate, the company commander steps out of that role and welcomes you in. Good luck and enjoy.
Thanks for sharing that perspective. Really great point about there being people on base who will help you out and support you. There was an instructor like that when I was at Cape May, and I ran into him again later when I was at A-School and he remembered me. As Mr. Rogers said, "Always look for the helpers."
Sharing as a mom, our son went to boot camp right after graduation in 2019. I know I watched EVERYTHING at that time so this is kind of for family members that are navigating this route as well. What they say about the changes and growth boot camp brings to individuals as people is absolutely true. He was already what we considered a hard worker and mature but at boot camp graduation the young man we saw after those eight weeks was even more impressive. It is hard but very valuable. A comment for family at home. Mail is very appreciated, especially hand written. Sandboxx is I think the completely online way to send letters. I’m not sure of the name of the system but my husband used it and I did as well but personally preferred hand written which he said were just nice because it’s just a real connection to people. Also, they have to learn to write in a crazy block font that makes you feel like their letters aren’t very personal. That is just another part of the process of becoming part of the, I don’t really know the right term but Coast Guard family. Appreciate and recognize that they truly are joining another family and it is a good thing. Our son is an introvert and only child but has also always just been a natural leader. We have been amazed at his willingness to become a part of that family and how much they all support each other. You and/or your child will have a new family that looks out for each other. Finally, you have made a choice that will serve you well and provide opportunities for you if you are willing to work hard and pursue these opportunities with a positive attitude. If you are on the fence about joining and are not willing to work hard, move around and try new things, you might want to talk to people to make sure this is a good fit for you. If you love adventure, are ok with travel and moving, and wiling to carry your own weight and be responsible for yourself Coast Guard is an amazing opportunity from what I have seen as a parent. It is not for everyone but research and see if it is for you. My husband and I would both do it if we weren’t too old but totally love living vicariously through him.
I will be arriving at cape may on August 13th, getting ready in this time I've utilized your videos extensively. I'm greatful for everything you're doing here.
Me too!! Just waiting on the background check and I’m set. What rating are you going for?
@aixelsyd3672 I'm going to try and be an ME, we will likely be in the same company!
we might be in the same company im going to meps on monday and going to try to get a ship date in august
Wishing you a great bootcamp from a CG mom. Cheering for you!
@@aixelsyd3672Wishing you a great bootcamp!
Thank you for taking the time to record these videos. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for your extremely generous contribution! I feel overwhelmed with gratitude and am glad the videos are helpful.
Can you find out the wait time for AMT A-school?
Currently it's 15-18 months.
You may have gained 15 pounds, but it wasn’t 15 pounds of muscle. it would be a challenge to gain 15 pounds of muscle is year eating perfect diet/protein and living in the gym.
I was scrawny when I went in and I didn't gain any fat that I could notice. I definitely bulked up but maybe it was water weight too. I know it wasn't fat.
I'm 32 years old and want to join the reserves. My main goal is to have a career in the Merchant Mariner industry. Would this be a problem scheduling wise? Is there a path catered to this? My recruiter isn't talking to me lol
Why do women get special s Treatment
I'm not sure if this is a serious question or not. Women don't get special treatment. As a general rule, women don't have the same physical abilities as men. The standards are based off of a generally accepted standard for what constitutes "fit" for the given demographic. These standards also adjust by age, for the same reasons.
@@CGCareerCentral why then the standard for men is not lowered to be the same as women.
Can you do a video on veterans that claim disability that would love to join the coast guard reserves? Thanks!
New to your channel. My first question would be, while youre in boot camp can you send/recieve letters?
Yes absolutely. The time for writing is limited but we usually had time on Sundays to sit down and read and write letters.
Is this true for depot as well?
From what I've been told by people who went through DEPOT, yes.
Keep it up
Joining at 35🎉
Thanks for the vids. I am shipping this August 20th and I am excited as well.
I am 45, and this week I am submitting my package for the Navy Reserve Medical Service Corps. I didn’t want to regret not taking this opportunity 5-10 years down the road.
That's awesome! Good luck.
@@CGCareerCentral Thank you 🙏
question. I'm going to DEPOT for 3 weeks (prior Army and civilian LEO for 8 years). When I make it through DEPOT, will I just go to a unit and wait for my A-school (ME) to become available ?
I unfortunately just got discharged from boot camp but i do think i will go back to finish it and yes oh my god zero ur lock cause they will rip u apart if u dont
Do you go to your job training after boot camp in the reserves?
Do you need to be able to swim ?
Yes. If you can't pass the initial swim test you'll go into remedial swim class and be able to pass it by the end of training.
I am 23 years old about to separate the Marine Corps in 11 months due to end of contract. I really want to talk to somebody that’s not a recruiter in the Coast Guard because I’m very curious on really like the way of life and some of the different things I could have experiences in
So…. Make sure you’re putting out?
While you're at boot camp yes. This is in reference to preparing for that beforehand.
Hey, I love your videos. I am interested in MST. Let's say you don't hit all the "top qualities" will that be something that they can help you focus on and hone throughout the process. For me that would be intense attention to detail. Additionally, how good is the coastguard at placing you in a job that fits best?
Do you know if you can enlist with a guaranteed district? And if so which ones?
For specific questions like this you really should talk to a recruiter. That type of info can change week to week. From what I heard last, yes there are guaranteed districts available. There are exceptions such as 11, 7 and a couple others
Thanks!
Thank you! I never thought I'd see this video!
I leave for USCG bootcamp cape may next month. Got my job picked out. AST
Wow that is awesome. Good luck and congrats on going AST!
@@CGCareerCentral are you still active?
I'm in the Reserves. Looking to possibly retire next year.
@@CGCareerCentral how long have you been in
20 years this September.
Wow, thank you so much. I am a big runner sometimes up to 9 miles in one day, I plan to enlist soon.
Hello sir, this video addressed a huge concern I had. I’m currently in the process of joining the fire department and in contact with a CG recruiter to join the reserves. I would greatly appreciate it if you did contact your friend regarding his experience with doing both. I really would like to gain insight into how it is. Thank you sir
Can u get education benefits in coast guard reserve. Here in my state the national guard will pay all your school for a 6 year contract
Yes, you can get up to $4,500 a year in tuition assistance for accredited colleges. You can also qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill for 6 years of service.
IT sweat sessions are 5-10 minutes. Bottle or sniper or special sea details are 20 minutes a time while you have to scream something on top of your lungs. Worst for me was 20 minutes IT with 5 minutes water brake non stop on Sunday from 1300 till 2100. But that was because someone said something about bootcamp was easy and CC heard that.
Wow! I bet that recruit regretted making that remark.
Thank you so much, this is really helpful since I’m enlisting soon, and the biggest thing I’m worried about is the physical portion
Dont focus on losing hope. Focus on being honor man so you get your choice of duty. If you dont want to be honor man why be there?
Thanks for the insight man
Im currently 14yrs in law enforcement, 7yrs of patrol and 7yrs as a EVOC and Vehicle Stop instructor, so hopefully trying to make the next DEPOT class soon. I wanted to do ME but i failed the color vision test despite passing the 2nd color vision test (red/green) so my secondary rate is DC. What are the benefits of a DC attached to PSU’s? Do they get certifications that MEs and BM’s get?
Can joining coast guard auxiliary count as prior service to enter the depot program
I think this would be on a case by case basis. I know people with no prior service who got approved for DEPOT based on other professional experience, so it's definitely possible.
