    The musical's good, and Zakiya's great as Lois Lane, but karate wasn't introduced in the United States until after World War II when returning servicemen brought it back to the United States.

    I did this show a few times as a kid in the seventies & I still love the score… I’m curious if there were changes, specifically in the script since I heard a line about karate classes that I don’t recall, hoping the Fighting Ling characters were rewritten at least. If anyone knows what company produced this in 2020 or? please let me know. Thanks for sharing a wonderful performance!

      I’d wondered why the show with this book doesn’t appear (as far as I know) to have been produced since. I hadn’t heard that the reason was DC. What happened?

    • @michaelshawnstarks9878
      @michaelshawnstarks9878 Год назад

      @@nalkarj2840 What I heard was that they had tried and failed to license Lex Luthor as a replacement for Max Mencken, but then they used other, minor villains from DC in the show that they did not have permission to use. But it was all an excuse to quash the show because DC's movies were getting ready to be released and they didn't want a "campy" Superman in play while they were trying to launch those. Of course, we know that they largely eliminated the camp factor in the rewrites. It was such a wonderful revisal of the property. It's terrible that more people won't see it.

    • @nalkarj2840
      @nalkarj2840 Год назад

      @@michaelshawnstarks9878 Ah, thank you! I actually had read about the rights issue with Luthor-I hadn’t heard about the other villains. Too bad about DC’s problem with a campy Supes… My worry when I heard about the retooled book was that it’d be campy than the original, but from what I’ve seen of it and read about it, and from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s clear respect for the material, I think this book was more likely an improvement. I agree that it’s terrible that more people can’t see this revisal.

    I think you should stop giving into the bigotry of low expectations in this country... Martin Luther King said judge by character not by color... If you talk a certain way and people of your own race don't want anything to do with you just because of how you talk what does that say about them?... I'm sorry for your bad experiences but I think you were on the right path to begin with there's nothing wrong with being who You are

    • @zpres97
      @zpres97 3 года назад

      Who said I was giving in to the bigotry of low expectations? What part of the video made you think I was doing that? And who said I'm not fully who I am now? I think what you missed was - I wasn't being myself back then. At all. And now, I've never been more fully myself. By recognizing the bigotry and systemic racism in this country, it allows me to take active steps to recognize it, call it out and demand better. That's what Dr. King said and did, right? Let's not forget, there were many many people who did not think there was a problem with racism when he started leading protests. :-) Be blessed!

  • @afanasibushmanov7463
    @afanasibushmanov7463 3 года назад

    The black experience that you're talking about sounds a lot like the gay experience (this is coming from a gay person). I support Candace Owens because I looked at the alternative to what she's saying and I reflected on both sides. What does walking around with the victim mentality do for you as a person and your community? I can make a list of things that I had to go through as a gay person. I lived in a conservative household and I went to conservative schools that were essentially anti-gay. What exactly is making that list going to do for me? I can say that it spreads awareness, but after that awareness is spread where do I go from there? Candace Owens never said that racism doesn't exist and I'm not saying that homophobia doesn't exist either. I'm saying that walking around hating the world because of how straight people treated me in the past does absolutely nothing for me. I was able to cope with dealing with the issues that you speak about by looking at others as individuals and not judging them by their immutable characteristics. I think society needs to start doing that as a whole. That's the best way to deal with the issues that you're talking about in this video.

    • @noeltaylor3594
      @noeltaylor3594 3 года назад

      Uh, sorry, Ms. Owens does say that racism doesn't exist anymore. Look, we're different, all of us and we take things our way. I can totally, 100% relate to what this young lady is saying. She looks younger than me. I didn't make the "switch" until 5 years ago and I'm in my late 50's. For years, I considered white people my friends and still do. Unfortunately a lot of them have chosen the Trump Train and our points of view differ greatly. They present Candace Owens as the paragon of what blackness should be and I will respond with how disingenuous she is. And she is. I think she has set race relations back decades because whites cling to her and other black conservatives as a way of absolving them of their guilt. She is in the way of this country healing. But, for the first time, I can see a different side and Ms. Young pointed it out. Candace Owens is hurt and I guess like most of us, she needs healing. She has a black son now, regardless of him being mixed. He will not be treated as a white man and I hope she'll be ready for that.

    • @afanasibushmanov7463
      @afanasibushmanov7463 3 года назад

      @@noeltaylor3594 I can see why you'd have that perspective, but as a white person I disagree with most of what you wrote. First of all I don't support Trump. I'm a classical liberal and I supported Biden this election cycle. Second of all, I'm an individualist which means that I look a black people and all races for that matter as individuals. I don't look at anyone as part of a group and I don't think any races are supposed to act a certain way. I also don't think she represents what blackness should be. I look at her as Candace Owens not as a black conservative. Third of all I don't cling to her at all. I disagree with her on a lot of issues. In general, I have respect for people who go against the grind and have more of a heterodox world view.
