Welcome to my channel! My name is Stephanie and this channel is all about my life after my Gastric Bypass surgery. I try to cover everything about my experience to include my personal struggles and triumphs, well-researched videos on topics relevant to bariatric surgery, and general commentary on the bariatric community, weight loss surgery, and breaking free of the diet culture mentality.
I had surgery at Mexico Bariatric Center in Tijuana Mexico with Dr. Rodriguez Lopez on December 1, 2020. My stats are as follows:
Height: 5'4
Starting BMI: 65
Highest Weight: 383.3 lbs.
Starting Weight (pre-op): 374 lbs.
Surgery Weight: 344 lbs.
I have currently lost 175 lbs. and although my weight loss has slowed down significantly, my journey still continues and I learn something new every day. I'm living my best life, healthier and more active than I've ever been, and I'm just getting started.

December is so much fun, and I've never been one who is super good at balance 😅 so sporadic posting FTW! It's been two years, can you even believe it? I'll put together a much more in-depth look at my 2-Year Surgiversary, but for now I wanted to provide a bit of a 24-Month December Update and be a bit vulnerable and talk about some of the mental health struggles that may be common with this typ...
I woke up at 5AM for 30 days and this is what happened | My Gastric Bypass Journey
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Год назад
I challenged myself to wake up at 5AM every day in hopes of finding more time in my life. I think it's a human condition, to feel like we struggle with not having enough time in the day to accomplish what we want and to be what we want, let alone to do the things we NEED to do. My hopes were to carve out more time by getting up earlier in the morning, but is that just going to leave me frazzled...
Why am I so sad after losing 175 lbs.? | My Gastric Bypass Journey
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.Год назад
No one really likes to talk about the mental toll that large weight loss comes with. This isn't just about hormones and physical changes; it has to do with deep-rooted emotions and fundamental crucible moments that forged who I was as a person and who I felt I had to be in order to protect myself emotionally, and as those layers peel away and I start to chip away at that, it leaves me in a very...
23 Month Post-Op Update // Bariatric Surgery in Mexico | My Gastric Bypass Journey
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.Год назад
October was a doozy of a month and not only was it busy, stressful, and absolutely FULL of stuff, it was also an extremely informative and eye-opening month for me. Even 23 months post-op, I'm still learning and growing and struggling. It is, after all, the human experience and to expect that to end or slow down a year after surgery would be silly. This is a longer and heavier video today but I...

I did my final hike of the season and really had a bit of an over-inflated sense of my abilities. This was probably the hardest thing I've ever done, and certainly was the hardest hike. BUT, not only did I complete it, I learned a LOT about myself and my abilities that I think will be helpful as I continue to be more active and push myself to try newer and bigger things in the years to come. Why I'm not worried about how much I can eat and my eating habits | My Gastric Bypass Journey
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.2 года назад
I wanted to give a little insight and background into why I'm not worried about the fact that I can eat sometimes twice as much as I could right after surgery, and why I'm not worried about the fact that I eat more carbs and sugar than a lot of other people I follow in the bariatric community. My personal story is just that, mine, and it may not be the solution for you but it's the reason I app...

I have no idea how to dress myself after losing 176 lbs. I don't know what my style is, but I do know it certainly isn't what's fashionable right now, which is an over-sized, boxy, flowy look. Thanks for sharing ❤ much appreciated
Thank You!!!!! I am 2 weeks post op. I really appreciate your videos!
I can eat a 'large' amount of green beans or mushrooms. I too can barely finish an entire egg....
Is it true that you can not take ibuprofen or smoke after bypass surgery? If so, do you know why?
Good to know for sure! Thanks for sharing ❤
I appreciate you SO much!!!! Thank you ❤
Thank You for sharing ❤😊
Thank You for sharing your experience ❤
Thank You for sharing ❤
Are you exercising?
I can’t even eat yet 1 month post I’m having serious issues of getting water down it literally hurts to drink water. But I’ve lost 30lbs post op.
Oh boy, I'm 10 years out from the sleeve, and I have had acid reflux from day 1. Now I have extreme feflux now because of a hiatal hernia. I am waiting to have Roux en Y surgery to fix my refux issue that was caused by the sleeve. I can't wait for the repair of my hernia and the fix to my reflux. It has been miserable for me.
Right after surgery my Dr had me eating soft foods.
If you can lose 30lbs on your own… why do you even get the surgery and take those risks? Why not just keep Working at it on your own?
Skip to 10:50 if you just want to get on with it, your welcome🎉
Thank you for the time stamp! My intention was to show the entire process and how long my dumping episode were in case people were curious about that...not to waste anyone's time.
Thanks for the information. I just had gastric bypass 4 days ago and the information is good to have for the future.
Girl, where are you 😢
I'm here! I've been living life and having new experiences! I keep intending to post an update video but I found youtube to be a bit stressful and tough on my mental health some days.
Thank you so much! New subscriber here. Your video was very helpful to me. I might be getting bariatric surgery. So I really wanted to see what I need to expect. That cheese, meat, fruit plate looked completely perfect! 👍 I think overtime I would get used it. In the past I did the 5 bite diet where I had only 10 To 15 bites a day I did that for 4 months and lost 40 pounds. So I’m completely cool with doing this, it’s just been a real long time since I ate so little. But the smaller plates do help a lot and I’ll have to get a scale for sure. 😊 thanks 🙏
Can you advice me as how to start. I had my surgery on July 2nd... almost 3 months out and only go for walks ... I need to do weight 😩 lifting and have no idea.. what kind of program as u following. .??
This video you seemed so up beat . How was the wedding ? Hope you are doing okay as it’s been 8 months since you posted . You have come such a long way ❤️ 9/24/24
Thank you for this video. I am just finding you because I am considering gastric sleeve at 64 yrs old and you touched on some things that I can resonate with
91 to 96 is nothing........ Any heart rate between 60-100 is normal......plus youre talking, awake, emotions et........ wouldn't worry until your heart rate is up in the 100s and for sustained for a long time. 120 bpm is high- not 96- im a cardiac nurse so i know what im talking about. Hope you feel better soon
Thanks! It's elevated for me, not that I was concerned or thought it was too high. But that is what helps me notice something is going on in my body.
Very helpful and I’m almost 8 years out Thank you again
Thank you for sharing, I might have this nighmare for 7 month without knowing. Thanks again goning to check if it is same or not. Hope you good days .
Um... As a Gastric Bypass patient myself, listen to your Dr. Not her. I can't even begin to explain why half of what she says isn't true.
Before I had my tummy tuck surgery I joined a support group and had to leave when people were suggesting putting TAPE ON THEIR INSCISIONS so they could swim. These support groups should be "this is what happened to me" or "this papaya helps with my nausea" NOT giving medical advice. The audacity of non-medical professionals to give medical advice! Thanks for this important reminder!!!
Thanks for sharing. I first thought the symptoms were me being diabetic/ having a sugar crash. After a few times of having it, I called 911. 7 paramedic men came into my apartment. I was so scared and embarassed. I told them i think it is my sugar being too low. They checked it and made me feel like it was just in my head. They suggested it could be a panic attack. Now I know what it was. It's a real thing! I knew I wasn't imagining it.
Some of these are not myths, but for way different reasons than she describes….where is your information from? 1. Carbonation - this is because of ulcers being more common if you’ve had gastric surgery & consume carbonation. 2. Straws - this is because people usually consume more with a straw than with sipping naturally, therefore leading to increased calories if it’s a caloric beverage or just over-consumption. 3. Gum - this is because your body creates enzymes when you chew gum, and they can irritate the stomach. And if chewed on an empty stomach, can create worse feelings of hunger, leading to overeating. 5. Protein - the recommendation of 25-30g of protein at a time is because they want you spreading your protein consumption throughout the day and not consuming it all at once. It takes about an hour for your body to process 10g of protein. So stretch it out throughout the day. 8. Coffee - this is because consumption of caffeine can interfere with the absorption of several key vitamins and minerals. People who have had surgery cannot afford to lose those nutrients. 9. Exercise - I agree that you don’t have to live at the gym, but sedentary thin people also have health problems. You still need to be active for overall health. Please please please do your medical research from medical journals and research before touting even more myths online!
I appreciate the real talk. Focusing on the big picture is so hard for me.
This sounds amazing!
Team Russian Tea Cakes! My grandma used to make them and now it's my job.
Broth was all I could tolerate for a few days. I've added powerade and herbal tea. Plain water hits my pouch like a rock😢
Day 4 here as well. My incisions itch like crazy! I got some protein down today. Overall it's been better than I thought it would be.
You’re looking healthy and vibrant ❤️
Thank you for sharing your journey ❤️
Here I am three years later, getting ready for my own surgery. Thank you so much, this video was so helpful and informative. <3
Thank you so much.
My doctor says no carbonation at all!
Mine too, because it can cause ulcers more easily. Not because of anything she said.
Video very helpful. I’m 4 days post op
I still battle this 9 years post op vsg.or SLEEVE SURGERY.
The rush of saliva to the mouth is what happens to me prior to throwing up. And, I think she may be on to something about eating sweets on an empty stomach. Perhaps eating a meal first would help ease the effects of sugar on the tummy?
Thanks for the 11 month update. I’m here for it 😊
Reason number 6,500 while I will just tell people do not get this surgery. Just practice what these people are saying they did before this surgery. This isn’t living we all are different kinds of active. I only think someone should be allowed to have this is they may have got up to 600lbs or more. I’m about 6 weeks out and I know I would take my old stomach back in a heartbeat along with diabetes and other issues and do all I could to eat right. I was very ignorant about food and now I have to have hernia surgeries after I lose the weight. This surgery is not worth it….
I know this is an old video i probably wont het a response. But ive developed anorexia after having yhr sleeve done in 2019. Im 5"2 and 103Ibs. Idk what to do
Are you the surgeon or patient ? I don’t get it lol
34 Oz tumbler * 2 thank you so much and I'm about to go through it.
Straws and carbonation won’t do anything but give gas. I had gastric bypass in 2012. Didn’t touch soda for over 5 years until I got pregnant. Pepsi was my only craving. About 6 months of pregnancy I was drinking a super big gulp everyday with a straw. 12 years after surgery I’ve kept off 200 pounds and can still only eat 4-5 bites of food and I’m full
I know this video has been posted for quite a while, but I just found it. And I'm so grateful that you shared this. I thought no one understood. Thank you ❤
you look amazing! i have my gastric sleeve surgery on September 4th,2024 and my emotions are all over the place. i am currently in day 3 of 16 of my pre op high protein diet and i gotta say its going ok. Thank you for sharing this journey as it really helps me get a better understanding of pretty much everything within the requirements of preparing mentally and physically. Again, thank you, this video gives me the motivation i really needed to keep going.I cant wait to see myself a year from now :)
Then why would the surgeon tell you to buy Gas x to have on hand after surgery? What are you basing your information on? Your experience or actual medical knowledge?
