Yes!! And there are certain peanut butters that use xylitol. Most people don’t stop to read the ingredients because people have given dogs PB forever. Make sure to read the ingredients of anything your pets eat!! So glad your pup was okay
@@melissafischer5892 Yes! Oh, the peanut butter! 😬 We were so lucky we got to the E.R. vet so quickly. I've heard several stories of others who weren't so lucky. 😥
Would it be ok to put it in the oven to speed up the drying time?
I'm not sure because it feels plastic-y. I don't know if you'd want to put that in the oven! ;) However, have you ever made salt dough ornaments? You could make your own dough, do the paw print, then bake it and even paint it! I only learned about these this year and love the idea since they are definitely non-toxic. Here's a recipe: www.bhg.com/christmas/ornaments/salt-dough-ornaments/
I'm 73 just bought 2 rat/fiest mix 6 months ago. Have 60acre farm. They are already house broken . They love to come in at night. Best pups ever. Even when they get into stuff they shouldn't. Still in the chewing stage.
Ooh we bet they love patrolling that much land! Enjoy every moment!!
Did yours harden over time? Mine has been drying for 2 days and is still able to bend and feels soft.
@@dhhhead It did. It feels light like some sort of plastic, but it did harden. In saying that, all our stuff is packed up this year because we're between houses, so we haven't seen them since we packed them up last year. 🙃
I couldn’t give a shit less about sports, but I foster dogs and this guy made my day on how much he cares about dogs!! Great person! ❤

Where can you find a good breeder?
@coskier1969 We would suggest starting with the national breed group. See if there are Facebook groups for the breed and join those. You can ask group members about breeders in your area. You can also attend local dog shows to meet breeders or those who are owners & would have helpful suggestions. As always, you want to visit the breeder at home & meet the mom dog to make sure you're visiting a reputable breeder vs. a backyard breeder/puppy mill. 😊 Keep us posted!
that was a town collie thats probably never seen a sheep. the real ones are incredible. they can go all day physically, its the mental part of moving stock that makes them tired. ive had and worked with a lot of different dogs and these are the smartest and its not even close. my dogs are very well behaved but ive sold littermates to friends and they are obnoxious brats so you have to know what youre doing. they are terrible starter dogs. that said, a good collie on a farm with worth ten men every single day. im sure the ones bred for show and fine as town pets but the working lines are all business and never turn off the herding. also they dont nip at all in my experience they just use their stare to move sheep which is called "border collie eye" so ive never had a problem with nipping people. you cant have your dog tearing up your sheep thats why we use collies and not cow dogs which need to grab on to get cattle moving.
@@lefty5string Michael jokes that they're so smart, they do Calculus in their heads! 😆 They're definitely hard workers and so fun to watch as they work. Thanks for watching and all your insight!
🎉🎉🎉🎉 love every minute of this podcast it is so true what you’re saying about border terrier I’ve had them now for the last 35 years and it is as you say it is - every bit is true ❤
Aww, thank you! That means so much to us as this breed has our hearts! Thanks for watching and your feedback!

Hi there, who is the lady speaking? I thought she did a great job. She seems very genuine. Who are you interviewing?
@@thekosalchannel9608 She is a breeder of WPGs and has been breeding for a long time!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I see Dr. Madigan mentions that white fur/haired dogs have some sort of enzyme deficiency that can breakdown the mediation. Is this something he sees with mixed breeds that just happen to be white - for example. The parents are street dogs that have a lot of mixed genetics. If the siblings of the dogs are different colours, could it mean the white fur doesn’t correlate with the lack of the gene?
Thanks so much for watching and reaching out. We're really not sure about this, but do reach out to Dr Madigan's office and I'm sure they can get that information for you!
Are the Wiredhaired hypoallergenic because the other types aren’t
Thanks for asking! What we've learned is that even though the term hypoallergenic has been used for certain breeds of dogs, no breed is truly hypoallergenic. Some shed less and have less dander, but there is always the possibility of an allergic reaction to those who are sensitive. We don't believe wirehaired dachshunds fall under the lower-dander and lower shedding category. Your best bet would be to meet the breeds you're interested in and see if you have any issues. Fostering a particular breed is a great idea as well!
This is the first time i watched your show. I loved it! My husband and I had a Rat Terrier named Ripley that we got from the SPCA. We had to put him to sleep about 9 months ago and our hearts have been broken ever since. We had him for 16 years. Everything that was in your video described him. He always slept with us and was my constant companion when i was at home. He is so missed. We are starting to think about getting another pup and we have decided on another Rat Terrier. I want to get a different color though. A wonderful breed!😊❤
Aww, we are so sorry to hear of Ripley's passing. How wonderful that you had him for so long, but we know that it also makes it so much harder when they leave us. They really sound like the perfect breed for someone who wants a smaller dog. I hope your hearts are healing, though we know Ripley will always be missed. Thank you for choosing to rescue him! Keep us posted if you get another pup. Thanks for watching and for sharing with us!
Anyone have any input with this breed and apartments? Also, being a hunting dog, how much hours of physical activity does this dog need?
@SukhwinderSingh-gz5qk Great questions! Based on the interview & comments, it sounds like they need to be well exercised, but hopefully someone who knows the breed very well will reply!
I rescued a 10 year old Rattie . He was given up because the persons "new boyfriend" didn't want him. So she sent him to a shelter. He was there for 4 days. I saw his picture online and knew he was waiting for me. 8 Months later he is my best lil friend in the world. He loves me and loves life. It took about 2 weeks before he started really trusting me. He was obviously taken care of physically and medically but I do believe due to hand shyness that he was abused. Now he trusts me 100%. Trusts other people. And loves the Dog Park. He may be 10 but he acts like a puppy. No matter how many years i have left with this beautiful dog i am so glad we found eachother. This breed is so sweet, playful, loving and bold and very intelligent !
Oh my goodness! First of all, you are an angel for adopting a 10 year old dog. I'm sure he has many more years left in him, but so many overlook dogs of his age. What a blessing you are to each other. Okay, as for the person who took her 10 year old dog to the shelter...it's better if I don't say the words in my head. He sounds like an angel himself and I'm so glad you two found each other! Thank you for choosing to rescue, and for sharing with us!
I have 2 pups that i was told are rat terrier Chihuahua mix the dad i adopted when he was a year old and im his 3rd owner, he doesn't like other people or animals of any kind, his daughter i got when she was 6weeks old and looks more Chihuahua long and skinny.. the dad is short and stocky so im thinking he is more jack Russell terrier. But they are both protective and lovable ❤️
I have had Irish wolfhounds for 15 year this interview is spot on! I was teaching my Irish Wolfhound how to play fetch, 9 times he went and got the ball and dropped it at my feet! The tenth time when i threw the ball he looked at me “nope if you want it you go get it, I got it nine times and you keep throwing it”! I’m done! I lost my heart hound at 7 1/2 from liver failure! my wolfhound I have know always wants to sit on my lap oh by the way he ways 170 lbs . They are also a magnet at gatherings a crowd in public! My wolfhounds have had 1000s of pitches taken of them!
Yay! We're so glad the interview was spot-on! We are so sorry that your heart hound passed so young. They are so majestic, we can really see why they get so much attention in public. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with us!
I have a decker rat terrier named Rusty
Aww, we bet Rusty is awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have a 3 y.o. Pumi ... great dog ... he rules the house ... very alert ... very vocal and very aggressive when herding other dogs who don't want to be herded ... no shedding, no odor ... I would not recommend the breed for just anybody ... probably not a good choice for a first dog owner ... or an apartment dweller ... he is very smart and thinking all the time.
Thanks for watching and your very helpful feedback! They definitely sound like a breed that needs a job and some space. With that intelligence level, would you say that they are easy to train?
@@DogNerdShow Yes ... he's easy to train ... he wants constant human interaction ... he makes constant direct eye contact with me ... that factor is very important to evaluate a dog's ability to communicate ... wary of strangers ... but a very loving personal pet
@@lcmd7833 That's awesome! He sounds very smart. :)
I had a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon for 13 years when he passed. I miss him, but also miss the breed. And I agree, you need to have space to exercise the breed. I initially had him on the farm for the first part of his life and he grew up knowing the outdoors. As he aged and slowed down, he actually preferred to stay closer to me. If he was mad at me for some reason he'd keep his distance, but overall loved to be right beside me. Ultimately, he had kidney issues that couldn't be addressed. I have so many great memories with him.
Aww, he sounds wonderful. Thanks for the note that you need space to exercise them. That is so important when considering a breed. We're so sorry for your loss and know that your boy lives in your heart.
We are getting a scottie, in August, they are amazing.
How exciting! We can't wait to hear all about him/her!

Thank you for this video on wolfhounds. I rescued a 2 year old that had been abused. She was terribly afraid of men. Since my husband passed I've been taking her to prayer group and other meetings where men are present. It took 4 months before she would allow one of them to pet her. Now, there are those she is buddy's with and goes to for petting. Our church gives food to the needy and we go as "guards" for our church secretary because of some situations that made us nervous. Most of the men of the church, even those she doesn't know, she is just cautious around. We have had some men come for food that she was much more than cautious and talkative in a negative way. She is about 5 years old now and weighs about 70 #'s. She loves to travel with me and go camping. Because of her small size I thought she was a mix. After listening to this program I'm wondering if she was an under feed pedigreed Wolfhound because she looks just like pictures I've seen of them and fits the fur, behavior and everything that was said about Wolfhounds. She is very demanding with her paws, especially when I'm driving and she is sitting beside me. If I don't pet her she clobbers me with a paw.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience with us! Thank you most of all for rescuing your sweet dog and giving her the time and space she needs to learn that not all men are bad. I love that she goes to your prayer group with you. We're glad you found us!
We have a Pumi who is 7 yrs and full of pizazz and energy! We’ve learned how to groom her ourselves and because she is a “rugged” breed and curly, we do our best and she pretty much looks the same. She is very very vocal and active, a very good sentry!
We love that adjective to describe her, "full of pizazz!" That's awesome that you learned how to groom her yourself. Thanks so much for watching and sharing with us!
Getting a 8 week old puppy this Saturday. Excited
That's so exciting! Congrats, and keep us posted!
I have an 18 month old Landseer (white with black patches) Newfie. He weighs 175 lbs, he sheds and drools like no one's business and he loves to swim. He has a sweet disposition and loves small children.
That's good to know about the shedding & drooling! I'm sure it's a deal breaker for many. He sounds like a doll! ❤️❤️❤️
@@DogNerdShow Yes, Ichinojo lays wall to wall carpeting on my hardwood floors 😆 As for the drooling, I can't allow him on the furniture because of it, but he has his bed and an old beat up love seat I got at an estate sale that he can drool on all he wants!
@@janellek21 LOL! Wall to wall carpeting on your hardwoods! Serious dog lovers need only apply, right?
To be honest you have pretty much covered it all there. I am writing from North Wales & we one of the very few Griffons in the U.K Much more common around the "Med" They are stunning dogs. BUT they are not for first time dog owners. They are subtle, crafty & will pick out any weakness within the owner. We would not be without ours & we have always had dogs over the last 40 Yrs. Stunning breed ...... but please do get one of these if you not grown up around dogs. Griffons are "Special"
Thank you for watching and commenting! It's good to know that they are crafty and not the best for unexperienced folks. "Special" is a great way to put it! Thanks for sharing your insight with us!
I have one ❤ love my baby 🇧🇷
They sound absolutely perfect! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just watched the VPR episodes when James & Graham are reunited & later takes a trip to Tahoe. Graham seems so happy to be back with James. Pets get “emotionally used” as a revenge factor in some breakups. I had a friend who was getting a divorce. Her estranged husband stole her three yorkies & held them hostage demanding she agree to his divorce requests before he would return them! She was emotionally distraught! Eventually the police got involved and the dogs were returned since she was named as the owner on the adoption agreement. So a happy ending, but people can be cruel each other when emotions are high.
Yes, it's so sad that people do that to these poor animals. Graham seemed really great in that episode, I just watched it, too. From all we read about his behavior, I didn't see any of it when Lala (and others) went to pet him. James' reaction was so sweet. He clearly loves that dog so much. The humane thing to have done would have been to have Rachel's people reach out to James and see if he wanted the dog. If he does have aggression issues, I can only imagine that they got worse as he was in limbo for months. I hope he's doing well under James' care. I would venture to guess that Lisa Vanderpump would give him all the support he needs since she really seems to care about dogs and their welfare. <3 I'm sorry that your friend went through all of that and am so glad she got her dogs returned to her. That had to have been so painful. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I’d like to see the WOUND that Graham caused to be abandoned in a shelter when there was a man all along that would have taken him immediately. This girl and her family are HEARTLESS.
Ratties are great! Having had four purebred and two rattie mixes over the last 30+ years I have never owned a dog that wasn't at least half rat. Rattie/ Chihuahua and Rattie/ Corgi are both good mixes if the chance of adoption presents itself. I"ve gotten them all under varying circumstances too. First one was an 8wk. old accident mix. Two at 8 weeks being able to see the Mom and Dad, One was 9mo. that I was the third (and forever) dad for, a 3yr. old puppy mill mom and an 11yr. old girl that was two days from her appointment to be put down. They are a hearty breed. Skin problems and rashes seem to be the most prevalent issue I experienced throughout the years, mostly a food allergy and a grass allergy, both controlled inexpensively with Benadryl and just the proper non prescription dog food. With proper care they can easily live to be 16 -17 yrs. (which seems to pass very quickly!!!)
Charles, thank you for your insight after so many wonderful dogs you've had! How lucky they all were to have you, especially the 11 yo who you saved from death row. What a wonderful human you are! Thanks for watching and sharing with us. This breed definitely sounds like a wonderful one indeed!
We have a 2 year old Rat Terrier:Chihuahua mix. Looks like a rat terrier with a slight chihuahua vibe but a mix of both rat terrier and chihuahua mannerisms. Dug is super active, loves his outdoor time but also lazy as can be too. Love this pup and his rattle traits.
Aww, Dug sounds great! I love how ratties seem to be great snugglers. Thanks for watching and sharing with us!
The name ‘Border’ actually came from “The BORDER Hunt” (not because they come from the Border between England & Scotland) Originally the Border Terrier was referred to as the Coquetdale Terrier or Redesdale Terrier from the area in which it evolved, but by the late 1800's it was generally known as the Border Terrier, probably because of its long history with the Border Hunt in Northumberland. It shares its ancestry with that of the Bedlington Terrier and the Dandie Dinmont Terrier.
Why do you think the border hunt was called that? Because it was near the England-Scotland border. Your comment doesn’t make sense.
I have a Patterdale too, they're awesome ❤
That's awesome! Are you in the UK? We don't see very many here in the States. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just wanted to drop a note of encouragement and say I respect the consistency and professionalism of this channel. You guys have been at it a long time! I came across the channel because of your wirehaired pointing griffon overview. Keep it up. Wishing you success with the channel, books, and life!

Yay! Good for you! It does take patience with these terriers, doesn't it? I think that's why terrier people "get" each other. ;)
If you have a ratty, please discourage them from jumping. I just had to put mine down at 20 years old due to hip dysplasia. He used to bounce for treats and attention. He was the bravest , funniest and most amazing dog. I’ll get another but it will be a while.
