Installing a Power Flex Gearbox Mount On My Ep82 Toyota Starlet GT Turbo
Просмотров 373Год назад
Hello fellow Toyota enthusiasts! Here I go again with my 1995 Toyota Starlet GT Turbo, this time I'm finally replacing the busted rear gearbox mount. I saved this one for last because I wanted some help but it turned out to be fairly simple as I enlisted the help of my big brother to show everyone how it's done. The Power Flex bushing was purchased as an upgrade to get some more responsiveness ...

Hey everyone! Not an AE86 update but I really had to install a new harmonic damper/crank pulley on my EP82 Toyota Starlet GT Turbo. With no other good options to replace the OEM pulley, I had to seek out some help from Ross Performance who make a part that exceeds the capacity of the stock unit. A Very Happy 8/6 Day On Track In My EP82 and An AE86
Просмотров 198Год назад
We LOVE the AE86 so when August 6 comes around it's only fitting to celebrate with an 86 track day and meet at @TheFIRMRallyPro. Matt and I put together this first track day and we intend on making it a tradition as we had an absolute blast tracking our cars and using the grounds for a meet. The EP82 performed as well as it possibly could considering the temperatures (mid 90s and high humidity)...

Sheesh... what a wild ride it has been trying to fix this EP82 Toyota Starlet GT Turbo. I went down a rabbit hole trying to figure out why my car stalled and gave me error code 12, spending all day Saturday working in the heat...and then the rain to finally get to the bottom of it. Well, the fix is not what you thought it was but you'll have to watch the video to see what was done.

did he use loctite when threading the bolts in? my poly mount just started to make noise haha I think its because I didnt use any threalocker
Good series bro. I wanna put a half rad in my slightly modified starlet to gain some space. Which model civic radiator you got for yours?
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Auto cross....
It looks better than that I have baught on the web site Flo's🤔
did you notice any improvement in shifting? thinking on installing them in my tercel hahaha but dont want too much vibration
shifting was much more crisp and direct, I went with the softer Powerflex material but I think the added vibration is liveable since these cars are so light they tend to be a bit more rattly over time anyways. Let me know if you ever make it happen.
Lovely 🥰🥰🥰
Did anyone know code colour of his car?
nice°!!!!
Do you think that rad and fan setup is enough to cool the 1UZ?
you know...i don't know hah! But it is a similar setup i have seen used by other people but if it doesn't work then I'll have to go a more custom route and try to get something packaged that will do the job.
Which rcv grease did you use?
I have 200k on mine and still going strong on 1999 limited
omg its just a super clean starlet man . great 🥰😍🤩😎
just love your super nice starlet mate , looking for more project 😍🤩
I feel yiu dude. My 98 4runner is my daily, i love it. Bought it with 153,000 miles. Currently at 270 000. Getting new control arms and ball joints thrown in right now. Desert dune pearl color holding up okay after all these years. Your runner is super nice.
Really great to see another video on this project. One thing to look into before you are fully committed: Check into your oil cooler orientation. I've always mounted mine with the fittings pointed up or with them pointed out the side (so long as the oil line entry is on the bottom and the exit line on the top). This is supposed to prevent air from being trapped in the system. Keep these videos coming!
I appreciate you and your feedback, I didn't think about that. If that's the case and I need to flip it around then I'll have to modify how I'll mount it but I can make that work, thank you for that again!
do you know if all AE chassis are the same size? I got a AE100 Wagon I want to 1UZ Swap
No unfortunately the AE100 is FWD and does not have the correct configuration or space to fit a 1UZ since it never came in a FWD setup. Of course, you could do anything with time, money, and some metal work but maybe you could look into a nice 20V 4AGE swap or a Camry V6 if you want to go bigger.
Its coming along real nice!
Slow and steady wins the race 😎
🔥!! That radiator bracket you have is pretty sweet!! Mounted nice and solid. Looking forward to more of your updates.
Thank you sir, I like how everything can essentially come out in one shot, might be a little messy since the oil cooler will also be attached to it soon but I’ll make it work.
If you wanna make it better put a ka20 in it lol
🤣🤣🤣 you know I would never EVERRRR do that
🔥🔥🔥
I still daily my dad’s 97 4Runner that he babied and man it’s a beast! Enjoy her, basic, simple, and reliable.
I love this “old” truck more and more everyday, it’s just comfortable and works. It has been an eye opening experience owning this as I never was an SUV/truck guy but that’s changing.
I suppose it's a lifestyle type thing, but most of the large roof racks are to look cool.... Which is great! I have a 2000 Montero sport. I wanted a 4- runner but people think because I am 62 I am stupid one guy tried to sell me an 01 4-runner he was white but the name on the title was Vietnamese. I like my Montero sport it's alot like the 4-runner, but hard to work on but it's paid off and I look at maintenance like a car payment!
I agree, the look sometimes outweighs the benefit of one of these large roof racks, if you have that outdoor-forward lifestyle then it's useable but for most people it just looks cool haha! Monteros are awesome by the way, my grandpa had a 1996 Montero in Puerto Rico and it was very capable and was very reliable being used for over 20 years.
How many ks ??
Dizzy cap old weak fuel pump!!!!!!!ignition coil pack throttle body adjustment
it had about 105,000
turned out to be a bad fuel pump and clogged fuel filter.@@damienksg1572
It's your coil
actually turned out to be a bad pump and fuel filter, I wish I had a fuel pressure gauge to figure that out sooner lol.
@@teqdigest oh ok good to kno you got the solution
I have done all my mounts in power flex bushings and they were the best thing I did. Vibrates of course but hey, when you’re modifying these cars, don’t look for comfort 😂.
The vibration is part of the experience haha. Since my old mounts were so worn the vibration was significantly worse but now I just have a little bit of rattling on the dash which is acceptable for a 1900lb car.
Nice good detailed video brotha. That set up looks a bit more tougher than my experience installing the T3 BBK on a Ford 8.8. Overall it looks great and excellent quality installation guide. 👍🏽!!
I appreciate the kind words! I’m hoping I can keep this rear end alive with the 1UZ because if not I’ll be going your route with the 8.8 unit lol.
@@teqdigest Celica/Supra rear is pretty stout, should handle 350+ reliable. My only concern would be how many drift events it can handle at that hp. That's the big question.
@@nunuland69 I’ve heard the same thing but I don’t plan on drifting it at all so I should be safe. It’ll mostly be track days and hill climbs and I’ll probably take it to the strip just for shits and giggles but not going to warm it up or launch it from hell lol.
How much please
I haven’t enjoyed it enough to sell yet lol
That rear glass is gonna be perfect for roller shots! Great choice as a daily 🔥
Greatly appreciated! And you're right, I need to make a little camera rig back there and do shots on my way to events lol.
Not much info on these dampers sadly. Im looking for one for a BMW motor and they exist but no one has used them, at least no one that talks about it
they're high quality, I know them from some 2JZ builds with high horsepower. It served well on my little 4EFTE.
whats the tool for the balancer called?
please check my description, I have the tools I used listed there. You can buy them on Amazon.
Hello my friend do you know anything about the weight ? Is it as heavy as the stock one ? Is it lighter ? Thank you.
The weight is roughly the same as it is filled with rubber to maintain normal operation.
Thank you my friend i was searching for a lighter one until i saw these. But since i am afraid that the aftermarket lighter ones do not have any kind of rubber or anything i might buy one also for my self.
@@Dimitris20v-x3o Since the 4EFTE has a turbo and uses a harmonic balancer it's best to have something that is rubberized to some extent even if you're at stock power. The vibrations to the crank over time from having a lightened crank pulley can cause fractures. I did a lot of research on various forums and some people have used a 5E or non-turbo 4E pulley when needed, but there are a few nightmare stories of those failing as well. The price of a pulley like this isn't cheap but it's worth it if you are upping the boost or you can't find a brand new OEM pulley. I hope your build works out, please send some pic to TeqDigest@gmail.com or DM me on teqdigest on Instagram, i'd love to see it.
Nice work bro. I’ve got all 3 engine bushings swapped for power flex ones. The dash vibrates like a dill doh 😂😂 Anymore plans for future videos? Subscribed!
🤣🤣🤣 my dash does have some vibration but it was a lot worse with my old shot inserts. I'm definitely going to be putting out more videos as time permits, I'm trying to be more consistent but I do have some upgrades I'm putting together like a FMIC for this baby so that will be the next vid for this particular car. I appreciate your support!
great video! also fantastic editing, filters, and soundtrack. A+
You know how to melt a man’s heart ☺️
Try cleaning the throttle column and change the fuel filter it worked for me
it ended up being the fuel filter and the pump wasn't holding pressure anymore, i covered it in a subsequent video but it had me stumped for the longest haha. The car has been spinning like a top ever since the repair.
Mine too….i have the stock engine, did an overhaul of the engine…pulling around 144Hp at the moment
I need one
How you turn up the boots
I only have the hi-lo boost setting that comes factory, sadly no boost controller.
Did you use goo net to import your starlet gt? How were they? Looking to import a glanza but i see terrible reviews for goo net 🤔
I had a good experience with Goo-net, I almost feel like it's safer than taking a chance going the auction route because these cars are normally at dealers already in Japan and are for sale locally there. There's a guy named Elvin (ae86house on IG) who has been importing for about 20 years, maybe reach out to him and check out www.q-auto.net which is where he searches for his cars to see if he can find something for you. MWPrestigeImports on IG is another great source, he's UK based but is a through and through Starlet guy and has had great success finding some very clean Glanzas for good prices. If you want to connect more please hit me up on IG or email me at TeqDigest@gmail.com, thanks.
Nice I ended up losing mine trying to install it 😂
Haha I practiced before I pressed record, that thing almost got launched.
Just got my super clean 93 GT got a bunch of parts coming to get maintenance done. As is it runs amazing. This is probably the most fun car I have ever owned hands down.
It's a blast to drive on or off track. Enjoy it as it is and gradually make your changes, you'll learn more about the car that way because there's definitely a lot of misinformation or extreme builds when you don't need much to have fun in an EP.
What filter did you buy and where did you get it? Thanks
I ended up ordering a filter from ID-Workz in the UK. K&N had an option but has been long discontinued. You can probably find luck on Ebay getting something that fits or look up 17801-11050 on Google and you can order the OEM filter. Good luck bud!
It's a cool one boos
nice job man, glad you put this together
We* team effort for sure, couldn’t have happened without you…hope you enjoyed the oh shit moment when driving your car lol
@@teqdigest oh - you’re welcome bro, i meant thanks for putting together the media content 😅 thanks for your help with everything on the event side for sure 🤝 which reminds me, i forgot to ask for one of the event stickers hahaha
@@blugecko1978 hah! I have some left over, I got you
Don’t think there are new pumps for ep82s bro. Chinese parts most of them are.
I purchased a Walbro, seems to be legit but still very noisy.
Got a bunch of starlet parts bro in Sri Lanka. Hit me up if you need any help! ✊🏽 I’ve got an ep82 as well. Had the same issue with my visors too
I will be in contact, there's alot of small piece that I'd like to get fitted to my ep82.
Try changing the map sensor and check if all the wires on the tps are present
yes sir, I did check that but it turns out I had a bad fuel pump and clogged filter, this thing had me for a loop, but thank you for the tip.
Every day we learn something new.
you're not lying, I'm glad this lesson wasn't too expensive.
