      If you are going solo, then either the Sawyer or the Hydrapak FLUX for you. If more than 1 person, the Platypus totally rules. It’s super fast and you can get 4 liters of water in one trip to water source. The only downside is it is bigger and needs more space in your backpack. Hope that helps!

    Front fender should almost never be a problem, but a longer rear fender on a commuter-style bike could be a no-go. Otherwise very nice rack although there are extra loose parts (locks) and it is not tool-less like some others.

  • @justinventer3727
    @justinventer3727 27 дней назад

    • @fourbrothersgear
      @fourbrothersgear Месяц назад

      Great question - and while REI doesn't give it a temp rating, my experience is I'd be fine using it around 32F with only a long-sleeve base layer, especially if walking. It would also be comfortable at that temp (for me) with a base layer and fleece, flannel or sweater, cause if you heat up, just unzip the main one and / or pit zips. AND.....I've used it in much colder temps and it does the job. Really like the hood for super cold and windy days. Hope this helps!

    Is this worth getting over the regular heavy duty version. Also considering the Quickrstuff but it’s so much more expensive. I do not have a bike with super fat tires so how wide the trays are is a bit of a distraction of me.

    • @fourbrothersgear
      @fourbrothersgear 2 месяца назад

      Tough call. I think the new slide mechanism and ease of one hand operation is a big improvement over the Heavy Duty, as well as the increased distance between the trays that makes it easier to load 2 bikes w/o conflict. Another big difference is how the arms open wider, making it easier to load and unload bikes. I do agree that if you aren’t running any Fat Tire bikes, the wider trays aren’t a big deal. Last thing - and I will be doing an update video on the Wheel Chock accessory as I’ve picked some up and think that for heavy e-bikes, they are pretty useful to help keep the front wheel from shifting in the tray due to weight. Not absolutely needed, but super helpful.

    • @fourbrothersgear
      @fourbrothersgear 3 месяца назад

      Fair question. It’s obviously more than a lightweight fleece…though definitely comfortable and in my view, doesn’t make me feel like a puffed up version of the Michelin Man! For example, putting on a seatbelt in the car isn’t awkward and I feel a good amount of flexibility when wearing it - just super comfortable. Also - unless super cold, I find I can wear it literally with just a long sleeve t-shirt underneath and still be warm. If you add heavy layers, like a heavy sweater, that is where you might feel bulky. Hope that helps!

    I have a question. I'm in the middle of the United States and I've often wondered, are you guys allowed to just walk across people's property? And that's why you're able to go through their gates, because here you have to stay on the roads. Like my grandparents had a farm, and if they caught somebody walking through their field, Um well I can't promise that they wouldn't have gotten shot, which is pretty f'd up. But I've seen videos where it seems like people who like to take long walks in the UK, just walk through farmers' properties, and that's okay? If so, I think that's pretty lovely.

For the occasional overnight in the van (usually a rest area or basic campground) when I need to keep the bike on the rack I have a a chain lock (Kryptonite Evolution) that I most certainly am going to wake up if someone tries to cut it with a angle grinder.
