Steve, you come from out west, I don't think you know the kind of crap people have to work with in the east. My opinion is it may be in your best interest to find your project vehicles out west and just go get them. That's what I have been doing for the last 30 years and it is worth the time and money for me. I had a brother in NM that chased the cars down , then I go get them. Or just pay shipping, probably 1500-1600 bucks to ship one east, you're right along I 40 , that's a good thing for shipping. . You will spend twice that on just a few body panels on this truck. Myself I would look for a good running used engine and trans and do the rattle rebuild. I wouldn't use the 350/400 in this build., rebuild the factory brakes and suspension, get it running and driving safely and let it go to a new owner. The rust areas you see look rough, it's the stuff that's hidden, that's the ass kicker. To you or me it looks ROUGH! to people on the east coast they see it and say WOW!, this truck is in great shape. Just doing the get it driving safely content would carry you to the good weather in your video. Don't get discouraged..... it's supposed to be fun.........well at least it is, when you look back on it when it's done. Later,. Steve name this project CHILLER, bet Sarah would agree, no??????

I didn’t know to mention it or not you might already know. On my 66 it’s identical set up as yours. I didn’t move the motor Mount location from the 6 cylinder to the V8. I put a Muncie 4 speed which is longer than those 3 speeds. Long story short I had to have the drive shaft cut and the motor sets back closer to the firewall. If I’d of moved the motor mounts forward to the next holes I was told later that the driveshaft will fit with yours and my new transmission length. Just thought I’d mention it. Do it the right way. You know what will happen with both directions you can go. Either you want to save it and fix all the problem areas before they progress to major problems or you want to rush it and throw it together for a joy ride until it falls apart then you either scrap it or take it all back apart and fix more problems that got way worse. I think you are smart enough to know the right way to do it I can tell it is eating at you but look at the pulse side it will give you a lot more content doing it the right way. My vote is a easy one, Fix all the areas that will be a pain in the ass when everything gets in the way after install. I just did the exact same thing to my 66 nova wagon. Regardless you will be a lot more happy with yourself if you keep it or sale it knowing you did not leave it to die aka rush to get it driving. In the end you do you I wish you the best. Oh and I know it sucks but man it is nice to see another builder working outside in this shit, I been doing builds going on over twenty years all year long in Colorado from 110 to -10 temps I am right there on the driveway lol P.S learn to always have big slabs of cardboard for the ground work amazon will be your best friend for that lol take care.

How are the floor pans? Window frame? Door bottoms? Cab corners? Bed floor? The answer rests in those questions. Can Marketplace be your path to replacement parts? You are the artist, but the real boss has a vision for a successful end result.

@tackettshoh .........we have all drug home projects and tough love decisions regarding our path and end results. My problem in the past has been my decision to cut up old Chevys to dirt race that should have never been cut up. One piece at a time will be the best direction. Just remember loud pipes save lives!

I like your work, and I feel that you have the right plan. If it were me, I would clean the engine just enough to be able to work on , be proud to open the hood. You already know your motor is ready, and trans. I guess your only problem is creating a trans mount set up. Love your work.

I have one right here (1971 GMC) once you pull it apart, you're going to find those weld in nuts rusted, breaking body bolts, many time consuming issues. I started this one last April. I'm still working on this thing "DACoutBack". I'm almost there. I should have been finished by now but have had about 4 or 5 months in engine issues.
