Huntersville Car Fire
A short video of Huntersville Engine 3 and Charlotte Engine 31 arriving on the scene of a car fire on Eastfield Rd and Ashley Chapel Rd. FYI, Eastfield Rd is the line between Huntersville and Charlotte NC. Also, a quick apology for my less than good videography skills. You can check out my IG accounts for better quality photographs of this fire.

This video was going to be about what photo processing software I use and why I use it. While making the video, I kept going off track about my thoughts on subscription based software, and so after a couple of tries. I decided to start this video with my thoughts on subscription based software and using AI to process and edit photos. Then the video does talk about my personal choice for image p...

Hey buddy, I had an idea today and suggestion for your all about series. I know you’ve already done a video on the modern day. CFD and some of this you may have already touched on in that video. I was just wondering if you might consider covering some additional topics and or angles in the series one being the earlier history of CFD and what has contributed to shaping them into the department they are today. Second I know that you have covered several individual stations in the CFD family, which I love that you have taken that unique approach.. just merely as a suggestion. I was wondering if you might consider doing a video series of sorts on the different battalions in the city and cover a little bit of what has shaped each battalion over the years.. again these are merely suggestions and ideas. Nothing more nothing less and this goes without saying that I appreciate all of the content you put together for us. Let me know if I can be of any assistance with resources or anything if need be. I hope you enjoy your evening and happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well.
Wicked awesome shots!
Will the charlotte Fire Dept build a new station 2, THEY SURE NEED IT!!!!!!!
It isn't in the current station plan and doesn't really seem very likely in the near future. The station is about 40 year old and is currently being remodeled. Compare that to Station 11 (which is getting replaced), is 25 years older that Station 2. I am sure the department would like a larger facility, but also I think CFD likes the location. Combine those factors with the cost of land in South End and new station 2 seems like it is a long way in the future.
Hey buddy as you know by now I really enjoy and appreciate all your content especially the all about Charlotte fire and or station videos for Charlotte. I don’t know how many more episodes you have planned in the series but I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind covering stations 2,12,16 and 18 when and if you have time thanks in advance. Keep up the great work. By no means am I trying to be ungrateful or choosy by making a suggestion I hope you know that. Enjoy your evening and be safe.🚒👨🚒⭐️🇺🇸
Should’ve stuck to Smeal Apparatus
Time will tell....
You should come do Randolph County Fire Departments. Everything from completely rural to small cities.
As you know by now, I really enjoy and appreciate the all about series especially when you focus on Charlotte’s individual stations. I don’t at all mean to be choosy but if possible is there a way you might could feature stations 2, 16. and 12. This is my favorite series of yours, but I am a little biased toward Charlotte. I’ve been a fan of theirs since the days of fire chief Luther Fincher.. regardless keep up the great work thanks for the amazing content and level of detail that you put in to all of your videos, especially the all about series. I always look forward to seeing what you come up with.⭐️🚒👨🚒 I learned something new with each one of your videos and that is really refreshing and interesting. I had no idea they had originally planned to put the rescue at station 42. I know I have asked before, and by no means is it my intention to pester you with asking? Are there any plans for developing a Charlotte fire alarm video by chance? I just think it would really make for an interesting video if you could find enough content to make it worthy of a video. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day and have a great weekend. Keep conquering with your amazing content!⭐️🇺🇸🚒👨🚒
I haven't forgotten about a Communications video. Its on the list.
@@wgkpublicsafetyimages9153 thanks so much I appreciate you!🇺🇸🇺🇸👨🚒🚒
Yet again good work!
Love your work keep it up! You should come to Henderson county we got some real cool trucks down here
Maybe one day!
Congratulations as always thanks for the great content keep it coming! I’m glad you got to take some time off enjoy yourself!⭐️🇺🇸🚒😊
What is the minimum staffing for engines and ladders. And ladders with pumps and hose are usually called quints. Because they are called ladders which means rescue and ventilation, why spend the money for pumps and hose? Do the ladders go on rescue assignments like mvc's with entrapment (I assume a heavy rescue and engine company also responds).
All Charlotte companies (Engines, Ladders and Rescues) have a minimum staffing of 4. Charlotte has set up their engines and ladders so they can operating almost interchangeably. In two company stations (an engine and a ladder), calls that only require a single company are assigned on an alternating basis, so ladders need to be able to extinguish fires (such as car or dumpster fire). Many of Charlotte's two company stations became two company stations because of call volume. For example, one reason Ladder 20 will go in service sometime this year, is that E20 has been running 4000+ calls a year. FYI, the rescue companies do not alternate calls, although they do pick up assignments if the engine is busy. MVCs without entrapment is a single company response, so it can be either an engine or ladder. Entrapment protocol adds a ladder and a Rescue. Assignments become a little more "traditional" on structures, although it is not unusual to hear engine companies assigned to vent or ladders on fire attack. As I pointed out in the video, some of this may change in the coming years as the department has started diversifying their fleet, although I saw that the TDAs on order will still have a pump and water, which is kind of unique for tillers. I hope that helps.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! SHOUT OUT FROM LOUISVILLE AND SOUTHERN INDIANA
Some more great photos! Yet to disappoint!
I love the information you share! Are you planing a video talking about the tankers and specialty units they have. Like the Vent, deluge and foams.
I did one on Charlotte's Tankers a few months ago (ruclips.net/video/96f1-UT8NsE/видео.html). The other specialty rigs are on the list, but that ist is getting really long, so I don't know exactly when that will happen.
@@wgkpublicsafetyimages9153 Thank you! Sorry I Thought you did one but I couldn't find it when I looked.
Loving these All Abouts! Any plans to do Cornelius-Lemley?
Yes. They have an interesting history and nice fleet, so they would be a good topic(s). Im just not sure when I will get to it. But I literally have a list on my desk of future topics, and they are on it.
It brings tears to my eyes whenever a VFD ceases to exist. 😢
I totally understand, but in today's world, the only constant is change. I am actually working on a video about all the 'defunct' departments in Mecklenburg county. Right, now, the challenge is finding some images i can use for the video.
As a past volunteer and part time firefighter, I’ve run into many brands of engines and ladder/platform trucks. I I will full admit, I am biased for Pierce brand, after working with e-one, kme, spartan, and so many others I can’t even remember, Pierce always came out on top for us. Maintenance, support from the company, and ease of operation, always had good luck with Pierce. E-one would be a distant second, not close because the truck is good for about a year, then the E-one curse hits, and stuff starts not working right. A southern fire truck manufacturer that in New England, especially New Hampshire, with the temperature ranges, from -30 degrees to over a hundred degrees, e one didn’t perform well, long term. Plus, most of our major fires, happened during the coldest day nature could find, mill fires, industrial, farm houses in the middle of nowhere with minimal or no water supply. It was interesting.
I totally get the personal preferences. I am old enough that I prefer Mack C and CF apparatus. But as a photographer, today my preferences are all about looks, which has nothing to do with functionality. My concern is more about the lack of options today with all the manufacturers being bought up. We are getting to point where we have just a few large manufacturers. When any business grows and starts to 'lock up' the market, they run the risk of losing focus, quality and good customer service. I think that's one of the reasons we are seeing cities like Charlotte and Raleigh diversifying their fleets, its sends a message that the manufacturers still need to 'work' to get (and keep) their business.
Keep up the good work
These are so cool
Thanks. I am still going to do the longer videos, but I wanted add these shorts to keep the channel active and interesting.
🔥🔥🔥
Do you know when Engine 6 is supposed to go back in-service?
They just recently started the construction of the new Station 6. I am not sure how long that will take, but I doubt E6 will go into service before its completed. They don't have room for the apparatus or crew at the current facility. A really optimistic guess would be next spring (2025).
Can you tell us what each engine carries in the hose bed? I would like to know the length and size of each hose carried, ladder complement and what is carried in the upper compartments that are attached to the hose bed cover. Thank you very much.
I don't know off the top of my head, but I will see if I can get that info. Maybe even as another video.
From front to back the engines have 100' 1 3/4 bumper line w/ fog nozzle 1200' of 5" 600' dead loded 2 1/2 with either a gated wye or reducer 200' 1 3/4 preconnect w/ fog nozzle 200' 2 1/2 preconnect w/ smooth bore nozzle and some companies have either another 200' 1 3/4 preconnect, 250' 1 3/4 preconnect or a 300' 1 3/4 preconnect w/ fog nozzle 100' 1 3/4 apartment bundle w/ fog nozzle They also carry 200' of 2 1/2 in high rise packs in a side compartment w/ a smooth bore nozzle. Generally in the compartments above the hose bed is a: 10' Attic ladder, pike poles, backboard, a water key, squeegees, and a broom. The ladder complement is: 1 40' foot extension ladder 2 16' roof ladders 1 28' extension ladder Small edit currently Engines 1, 4, and 5 have a small complement of 3" high pressure hose.
Thanks a bunch for the info.
I do have two questions as well. One may seem a little naïve. That being said I know Charlotte fire has 43 stations and operates two engine companies out of station 42 does engine 65 not count as a second engine for statistical purposes. I’m only asking because I honestly don’t know. I’m not trying to correct the information you provided in the video at all. Also, do you still plan on doing a video about Charlotte fire alarm? I know when we spoke before you were tentatively trying to put a video together if you could find some good sources of information. Also do you have anyone Charlotte station videos planned? As always I greatly appreciate the work and effort you put into your channel and content! Please keep the awesome content coming! Enjoy your week!⭐️🇺🇸🚒👨🚒
Engine 65 is counted as an engine company. Just like a normal two piece house (engine/ ladder), they rotate calls. If there is a box in their first due, they both will go and whoever gets there first (tends to be whoever pulls out of the bays first), usually is the first arriving Engine on scene and they’ll be command until they pass it off to the Battalion Chief. If Station 42 is the 3rd due engine on a box, it’ll be either 42 or 65 depending who ran the last call (if 42 was assigned on the previous call, 65 would be added to the house fire box). If Station 42 is the 2nd due station, then more than likely both 42 and 65 will get assigned. Charlotte flip flops calls to reduce wear and tear on their apparatus.
@@charlottefirebuffing6723 that makes since thanks for letting me know I love your channel as well!🚒👨🚒⭐️
Thank you so much for this upload. As you know, I have been waiting on this.🚒👨🚒⭐️🇺🇸🎉 keep up the great work and this also goes without saying, but you are one of my favorite RUclips channels😊
Great video, our department ordered a quint based partially off Harrisburg's specifications. It's like a Harrisburg and Chattanooga quint had a baby. We also ordered from Smeal/Atlantic Coast Fire Trucks.
Could you do one for the city of Salisbury ?
I have had a couple of request for Salisbury. It is definitely on the list now.
The thumbnail is a confusing perspective because the water tower looks like it is attached to the fire engine
Hmmm, you may be correct. I let You Tube pick the thumbnail, perhaps i will change it.
Enjoy your videos and the great information. How about Gastonia?
Great suggestion! I have a couple of other departments in the works, but Ill add that one to the list.
👍
Now they have 12 new Pierce Enforcer fire apparatus on order. 7 pumpers, 3 107ft ascendant dual axle quints & 2 tiller quints with all having a 2000 gpm pump
Yes they do. I have discussed that and will talk more about it in a couple of upcoming videos.
Hey buddy, I hope you’re having a nice evening. I just wanted to mention for your upcoming Charlotte video if you can touch on the new battalion nine and what stations will be in the new battalion if you know. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work! I appreciate what you do for the channel!🇺🇸🚒👨🚒
Yeah, I have been waiting for the new station response map. I am assuming it will update the battalions.

Charlotte Tankers also have a small purple K powder system equipped on them. They serve as a PKP unit if that service is required off airport property. Also there is a NCANG tanker housed at station 41.
Would you ever cover any South Carolina departments? Specifically Columbia or Irmo?
I don't have any plans to go that far south, but that doesnt mean I wont, just no plans yet.
@@wgkpublicsafetyimages9153 well nevertheless I enjoy your insights on cfd and surrounding departments…Look forward to your upcoming work!
Thanks for the upload as always I appreciate your videos especially Charlotte FD!👨🚒🚒 Have you ever considered doing a video on the standard ladders? Just a suggestion nothing more or less. also, did you ever figure out or make any progress on the production of a video about fire alarm? One last thing do you happen to know if ladder 20 was approved for this current budget cycle? I thought that it was, but I am not positive. I know they are wanting to add ladder 17 at some point as well, but that is further in the future than later 20 from my understanding. However, I was not able to find any concrete information on a start date for ladder 20. This goes without saying but keep up the great work and content you are one of my favorite channels on RUclips. I appreciate all you do for the channel. Enjoy your weekend and take care.⭐️🇺🇸🚒👨🚒
I have a video on Charlotte's "standard" engines and ladders in progress. You should see it soon. And the City did approved three new ladders for the coming fiscal year, one for the new station 45, as well as one at 20 and 17. 17 is supposed to eventually get a tower. I'm still working on a bunch of other videos.

PIERCE!!! Top quality fire apparatus!!
Pierces are gorgeous and nice when they are brand new. Our problem in my full time department is the Cummins engines. So many problems. We have 14 pierce engines, 4 pierce aerials, 3 pierce rescues. It is a struggle to keep them in service.
@@igotJesus88 We keep sending our CAT engines to Brazil for factory rebuilds and ship them to Ensenada. We send an enclosed truck to transport them back here. I agree about Cummins.
@@NormanSilver oh wow! I can’t imagine having to do that. The main reason we keep buying pierces is because we have spartan apparatus 15 min away. They do all the pierces warranty work. Also Cummins is local.
31 CAT 3406's still running strong.@@igotJesus88
I always appreciate the input, although I try to stay away from assessing the quality or picking a favorite. That is a recipe for starting a 'comment war'. Firemen have strong feelings about their apparatus. ;-)
Very good. Nice apparatus
Why they skip numbers and go up to high numbers ?
Skip what numbers? I am not sure what you are asking. If you are asking about 11, its because they are assigned to Station 11. Company numbers are linked to the station number.
How many times a year do they actually *need* a 100+ foot ladder
I am not sure. I know their response area has buildings and structures that are taller than a 100'. They also have large residences that are set well off the roadway.
@@wgkpublicsafetyimages9153 I started my firefighting career in 1980 and one thing I have learned over the decades is that the vast majority of tillers are acquired simply for the status symbol. And similar can be said for most large towers.
please do a video on mooresville fire!! great video as always
I could do one on Mooresville. I'll put it on the list.
Awesome fire tiller
Thanks for the Concord FD History, Sharp looking Tillers.

Could you do Rowan county please
I am planning to do Salisbury Fire at some point down the road. I have been working on their history, but I will need some more images to create a decent video. But hopefully, I will get that way soon.
I enjoyed your Video immensely. I happen to be a life long fire fan and I am always learning about fire departments around the USA. I just so happens that periodically I attempt to get updated on the Charlotte fire department. I have notice that since I have started becoming familiar with the Charlotte fire department that the primary supplier of Fire Apparatus for Charlotte has been Spartan/Smeal however I recently found out that Charlotte is planning to transition to Pierce Fire Apparatus in another year or so which is a surprise to me considering that Charlotte has been purchasing Spartan Smeal Products for such a while already. I was wondering what the reason for it is? By the way there are several other Fire Departments of note that are switching or have switch to other brands from Spartan products.Fort Worth Texas one of them however so is Dallas and Chicago as well.Austin Texas is going back to Spartan products after using Pierce products for a while. I am from Chicago. I am looking forward to watching your future videos. Keep up the Great Work.
It is a question I get a lot and and I think a lot of folks were surprised when Charlotte announced that Pierce would be supplying 7 new engines, at least 1 TDA and 3 new rear-mount aerials (including a lot of people who work for CFD). I have never heard an 'official' reason or statement for the switch. I think its just part of the move to diversify their fleet. Until a couple of years ago, Charlotte had purchased identical engines and ladders from Smeal for about 20 years. And even before that, they were purchasing standard apparatus that were set up so they could function in either role. Ladders had water/foam tanks and hoses and the engines had 40' ground ladders and in some cases, extrication equipment. The first fleet change was the addition of mid-mount platforms. They just put their fourth platform in service and have plans for a 5th (they are Smeal platforms). Then came the tillers and hazmat support engines. I think (and it is just my opinion) that the department leadership had decided to move towards specialization with their apparatus and away from rigid standardization. The department has seen some significant changes over the last couple of years beyond just its apparatus. I also think the brand change (for a lot of departments including Charlotte) is in responses to loss of competition in the apparatus industry, which has lead to big price increases. Big department's selecting a new supplier is just a way to let their current suppliers know that need to stay focused on quality, service and price if they want to keep their business. FYI, Raleigh NC FD (a long time Pierce customer) just order some Spartan/Smeal engines. I know everyone has their preference, but I am not sure any brand is that much better than another (<-- that should get some strong responses). The best way to keep the price reasonable is to have manufacturers continue to try and out bid their competition and not just 'count on' their big city customers 'automatically' purchases the same manufacturer. Once again, that is just my opinion. Thanks for the support and this might be a good topic for another video. Like my photography videos, I have found that when you start talking about brands, people really have strong opinions.
I’m just trying to think of a good mix of stations from different areas of the city.🚒🇺🇸
I have two more suggestions if you don’t mind. stations three and 10.
