Lady Olena and Margery are far from stupid. They know how the court games are played. They already know that Joffrey is a psychopath monster. Getting rid of him and putting kind and innocent Tomen on the throne was the logical way to play. What they didn’t figure was that once Tywin died (also a logical and rational player of the Game of Thrones), Cersei would take over and destroy everything with ill thought out and self destructive schemes. BTW, this conversation was not to confirm Joffrey was a monster, they already know. This is to suss out Sansa whether she is still useful to their schemes rather than a completely mentally destroyed girl.

Sometimes it really felt like Tywin knew who she was, but he saw himself in her, and so chose to let her live.

Natalie Dormer’s acting is so beautifully subtle. I love her, “she’s terrified, Grandmother, look at her” delivery. She genuinely feels pity for Sansa, but that feeling makes her wildly uncomfortable. She won’t make eye contact with Sansa in that moment and she tilts her head down and away. Margaery is so well-practiced in the art of interacting with others solely using politically advantageous strategies that she isn’t comfortable interacting on a genuine level. It’s details like this that make these characters so multi-dimensional and fascinating.

"The cheese will be served when i want it! And i want it served now!" When a powerful old woman tells you to fuck off and get her a snack, you dont tell her the snack is coming later, you damn well fuck off and find that snack. 😂

Look at Margaery's eyes at 1:16 as Sansa reluctantly reveals the truth about Joffrey. That's genuine compassion. Be that as it may about her being a master manipulator. When it comes to this particular moment though you will not convince me otherwise. Her heart most certainly went out to Sansa.

Olenna is one of the wisest people in the show.

Part of me always wonders what if Olena was still alive and helped council Sansa at Winterfell. Woman was incredibly smart and had great ways of knocking sense into others.

This was a good part of the story. My anxiety was high, the 1st read-through. They literally were doing whatever they wanted to the peasants. Soldiers of all the houses, fighting in this particular war were aping, tealing, urning, doing everything to any peasants within reach. Arya/Arry was scared for the majority of the time. She was terrified during the Tickler's reign. And here we see that the Red Woman just plucked Gendry up. They were having a convo and the next minute Gendry disappears. Arya hasn't seen him again, in the books. 😞 🚶🏿

I dont think that it was at this point that Olenna decided to kill Joffrey. I think she was initially contemplating it before Varys hatched a plan to wed Sansa to the Tyrells. If the marriage of Sansa and Loras had gone through, Joffrey's death could have gone one of two ways. If Sansa was in Highgarden and not at the wedding, then the murder of Joffrey probably would have been carried out at the wedding. If Sansa had to attend the wedding with Loras however, Joffrey probably wouldn't have been killed until later.

She knew the serving boy was a spy, so she sent him for cheese long enough for Sansa to tell them the truth.

The fact that Jaime was right about the old man, with that unspoken suggestion that Brienne kill him. Just think, if she had listened to him, he never would have lost his hand, and who knows if the way Brienne sees Jaime ever would have changed, since it was the bath scene that first started it. And the only reason that Jaime was so vulnerable then was probably because he was half dead and delirous from his injury.

What I love about this is that both Margery and Olenna, despite clearly working an angle, were probably one of the few there ,alongside Tyrion, that showed her genuine sympathy for how facked up her situation is and never once betrayed her trust.

"He's a monster." "Oh. That's a pity." - "He won't be for long." Lady Olenna Tyrell thought.

This scene resonates in my soul. "we're only women here" and yet...what power, what beauty, what grace, what...ferocity. May we all be women like Olenna.

And basically, with those words, Sansa unwittingly signed Joffrey's death warrant.

I honestly never saw their relationship as sexual attraction love. I saw it as two people who became friends and the friendship overtime turned into loving that person like they are family. Basically the same way Robert and Ned’s relationship was. Started as friends and became family. Throughout their time and journey together, Arya and Gendry never shared a sexual moment/advancement. They watched out for each other like brother and sister. That’s why the sex scene in the last season felt so out of place and out of character.

I remember when I was first watching the show I used to think Sansa was a moron, but looking back, after reading the books and being a lot older, she is a very tragic character. She was a child put in a world of adults, cloaks and daggers, and while she is subtle and scared, the few moments she acts she does scores some nice wins. Looking back and now she went from being one my most hated characters to one of my favorites.

To think this was the perfect way to manipulate Sansa - mention her father’s honor, invite her for tea and lemon cakes like she always wanted, show her kindness to lull her into a sense of security after years of being tormented by Cersei and the Lannisters’ lack of courtly manners - and it worked because she bought it. Man, the Tyrells did their homework.

Tyrell was one of the most badass houses in this entire show, IMO. While being good at playing the Game of Thrones, they were still unshakably loyal. They NEVER betrayed Sansa after they promised not to, and even though Olenna most definitely decided to kill Joffrey after this conversation, it was about loyalty to protecting her granddaughter from a monster, not for political gain. I was so sad when house Tyrell met its end. 💔

It makes me tear up how Olenna is so comforting towards Sansa to earn her trust.
