Relief from Pain- Somatic Tracking Meditation
Hi Maureen, I am also a small creator on Matt's Slow Growth community! I just wanted to say I really appreciated your video. Although I don't have chronic pain, over the last 1 and a half years I have been dealing with a health condition that shares some similarities. Your advice was really helpful, and I appreciated the metaphor of comparing chronic pain to being in an airplane. I especially resonated with the idea that turbulence is normal when you are on a plane, and so can be periods of less good health. The important part is being kind to ourselves, and appreciating the good parts, as well as how far we've come. :) Thank you for this uplifting message, and I look forward to more of your videos!
Love this, this sounds brilliant! Excited to try it

This advise taking me back to 20 years old of myself and giving me hope and inspiration to do things that I truly want. Awesome.
😂 I really thought that you were a student back then haha Good to see you again and wishing you the best
I’m super excited to continue to see your growth. Keep it up Professor 😄
Thanks so much! I'm excited to be on this journey.
Very helpful
I like this video! I am using it as a reference for my essay on 'Should people read only realistic books?'
Sounds like a great topic!
I’ve never thought of it this way!
Here for that villain era ✨
I'm only 24 but I've had chronic pain for 2 years now. Thankfully i discovered the whole neuroplastic/TMS and PRT world last March, and it has definitely help me. I've been journaling too. I'll definitely try these techniques, thank you so much 🙏🙏 i just wanted to ask you, would you like perhaps to do a video on people who are kinda... stuck (?) on their healing journey? Like, how do i get from a 60/70% recovery to a 95%? Do you have any insight about that? Or about graded exposure (that's be really really interesting too!)
I will definitely ponder that topic! I have a lot of thoughts already. In my own experience, part of what kept me stuck in my recovery was putting pressure on myself to be completely "healed." Any sense of urgency to be 100% pain free only served to put me into a hypervigilant state, which as you know, increases the pain/fear relationship in my nervous system. It's an important conversation to have, so thank you for bringing it up. 💜
Hi! I made this video for you: ruclips.net/video/xwjp8y0lr3c/видео.htmlsi=luoyUBJuCNHp3R1E
@@narrativedrive that's so incredibly sweet of you, thank you SO much!!🙏
Thank you so much. I wish I could like your videos every time I watch them. You would haclve a lot more views per videos. Thank you for all your help. I'm learning so much and I really want my life back so I will try journaling about my feelings. I keep everything in, so it might be the breakthrough I'm looking for. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm so glad! Let me know how it goes ☺
This video is for @NathalieEwanchuk 😀
Would you consider making a video on journaling for chronic pain ?
Absolutely! Journaling and somatic tracking cured my chronic pain. I would love to make a video on it. Thank you for the suggestion.
The video is up!
If you could make one on TMS hypnosis that would be great and if you need any guidance it's based on the book by Dr John Sarno
What is TMS hypnosis? I’m a TMS practitioner!
Really good advice!

Very good!!!
Thank you!
I use this daily
I'm delighted to hear that! Are there any topics you would like me to make a video about?
I’m giving this a try, thank you ❤
Thank you so much for your valuable program.🎉🎉🎉
I couldn't agree more! I LOVED Joseph Campbell. I discovered Joe's work in the Bill Moyers interviews The Power of Myth - and they're on RUclips for people who've never seen this wonderful TV show. The Hero's Journey was a revelation, and I used it many times during the challenges of living with CFS/ME and fibromyalgia, and getting off benzos (as addictive as heroin and 10 times harder to quit.) When withdrawal got VERY challenging, his words resonated and reminded me this WAS a hero's journey - and I refused to give up. I healed 80% from 5 supposedly "incurable" diseases, and literally went from crawling to dancing! Mythology helped me too, enormously. Whatever you're facing, others have been through this and found ways out. Through that process, I went back to my first loves - theatre, comedy, and storytelling. Now I have dozens of stories, some of which I've turned into a one-woman show: Escaping Benzo Oz. Thank you for reminding me of this - and for bringing his words to help people figure out their OWN hero's journey.
Your video is so important and good! But 😮😢im shock why there's less views, likes and comments!?! 😞 Anyway, thanks for the meaningful review.
Thanks for the kind words! This was my first book review, so perhaps there will be more book lovers who find me in future videos :D
Can’t wait for the July books. Thanks for your suggestions!!
You are so welcome! I'm already working on July's video 😀📚
Thank you for sharing 🎉
Thanks for watching! 😄
This is so good! I totally enjoyed it. I've kinda known about the Hero's Journey, but I love how you've applied it to LIFE. Thanks! I took many notes in my Commonplace Book and plan on listening to it again. Best video of the week.
Thank you! I love that you have a Commonplace book. I just have notes everywhere 😀
@@narrativedrive I love my Commonplace book because I think through ink. Writing, especially long hand opens my mind. Here's a quote from our favorite Carl: "Where your fear is, there is your task."
@@HagothVoyage Ooh, that's a great one. I might need to make a video about that! Thank you for sharing. 😄
I like the Message of safety: how human of me.
I just discovered your channel and like your content. I'd like to hear you elaborate on procrastination. When I have to prepare for a weekly meeting, I almost always leave the prep until the last minute. I often distract myself with playing games or watching videos until late when I finally have no choice but to do the prep.
I just made a series of videos on procrastination for you :D

So helpful! I suppose that tracking is similar to a body scan. But I’ve never officially done tracking until today. I watched a different video from another practitioner before hand. It wasn’t for me. I found this, and my pain decreased considerably. Around half way mark of the video. I wasn’t even done listening yet! Thanks so much! Have a great week! You’re a beautiful human being ☺️ 💛
I'm delighted to hear that your pain decreased! Somatic tracking is a fantastic tool, but I agree, we have to find an approach we connect with.
That’s was great thank you.
You are so welcome!
very well mam. . . It was really a wonderful lecture on Feminist literary theory ❤

Maureen, thank you so much I have been consuming a ton of books and videos and teachings on somatic tracking. This video is perfect perfect length perfect messaging thank you thank you.
Thank you for the kind words! I hope more people learn about somatic tracking. It has helped me so much in my own recovery from chronic pain.
Wonderful video! I'm definitely going to try the 90-minute timer idea.
Fantastic! What are you going to read? I could talk about fiction all day 😄
@@narrativedrive The Stolen Throne by David Gaider! It's a book based off of a game series that I love (Dragon Age), which is, in turn, highly influenced by Arthurian legend. Dark fantasy is my favorite fiction genre, followed very closely by medieval/Renaissance based historical fiction. :')
@@sillymystic Sounds like a great adventure to escape into!
This is something I've always felt but could never articulate! The feeling of reading about someone going through the same thing as you is so healing in of itself, but its even better because books have such a funny tendency to always provide a thoughtful solution to those pains as well
Reading fiction can be a safe space to explore those feelings and play around with possibilities as we resonate with the characters and their experiences. I'm experiencing that right now while reading Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. My life is nothing like the characters in that novel, but they are helping me process some feelings anyway! I'm glad you enjoyed this video.
can i be your friend please i have no forein friend
If you watch my videos, you already are my friend 😄
you are good @@narrativedrive
Each time I do it, I find it more powerful. The emotion that seems so entrenched and monolithic is breaking up and moving much more quickly. I'm finding emotional somatic tracking even more effective than pain somatic tracking - as the emotions are behind the pain. Thanks, Maureen - this is a terrific video for working with your emotions!
Thank you! Yes, the emotions are behind the pain. Our bodies don't have a lot of ways to get our attention and pain is a powerful tool to get us to pay attention. Sometimes, when pain or big feelings come up for me, I pause and even ask out loud to my body "What's going on? What do you need to tell me?"
@@narrativedriveI've tried that many times, but mine remain mute. Perhaps as I let them know I'm truly listening rather than shutting them down, that will change.
Thank you for this! I'd really love some more videos about perfectionism and studying or the need to "control" everything. 🙏
Thanks for the kind words! I will definitely be making more videos on perfectionism. I see it everywhere!
Fascinating! And yes we can jump to conclusions or catastrophize fairly simple sensations. Somatic tracking is so powerful for sitting with the emotions which I love. I can look for the silver lining too quickly and without realizing repress some important but challenging emotions. Sitting with your other emotions tracking lets me sit with it briefly, which often gets it to flow, and then go, rather than remaining stuck in the body which is what happens when we shove it down, repress it, or whitewash it with perky positive thoughts. I'm with you - often there's a lot of power and beauty in the emotion struggling to be heard, and wisdom. I'm good at anger, but dislike fear or anxiety - as the latter is new in my life, and frustrates me. Another fine video!
Thank you for the kind words! I agree that emotions can get stuck in the body when we try to cover them up with relentless positivity. In my experience, allowing myself to feel them without silver-lining them has been the greatest tool for healing. 💜
I love this somatic tracking! I've noticed that when I face my challenging emotions, particularly fear - I often have a surge of energy later and can accomplish more, as though repressing emotion takes energy - and when we face it it becomes free-flowing and helps instead of harming. This is a wonderful short video to sit with our emotions. Many thanks, Maureen, another winner.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@@narrativedrive I just wanted to add that it gets better the more I work with it. I'm beginning to delight in facing challenging emotions, and seeing as I sit with them they "flow and go" so much more quickly. Thank you, I'll recommend and share this on Facebook and with friends!
I didn't understand please help!!!!!,❗❗❗❗❗
Thank you, Maureen - this is a lovely and effective short somatic tracking meditation and the video is very relaxing. I have MEFM, so I need to keep my eyes open or I'm liable to fall asleep, so I appreciate the video.
Very informative video! I especially found helpful the notion that dread and other emotions can be survival instincts. I wonder if fatigue may be another one? Especially when there's a big event or activity that will require a lot of energy coming up, I feel especially fatigued the day before. Fascinating, and I agree wholeheartedly that feeling, processing, and releasing our emotions is key to better health. It's the ones we repress that turn into health problems according to a number of trauma -informed doctors like Gabor Mate. Thanks, Maureen!
Yes, I think fatigue is an example of our survival brain trying to conserve energy in case a greater threat appears later and we need to mobilize that energy. I like to just acknowledge that fatigue and try my best not to judge my body for having this very normal reaction. Fatigue can be present and we can still do what we need to do to move forward with our lives and our goals. :D I find Dr. Gabor Mate's work fascinating!
