that ungrateful country was a waste of American lives and money.
The fat Buddha iis actually Hotei is a god of good luck and good fortune and may be called the ''Laughing Buddha. '' He is also known as the ''cloth sack'' monk or Budai in China. He is characterized as a bald, chubby, smiling or laughing Buddhist priest with loose robes, large earlobes, and a round, protruding belly.

Interesting video. I don’t think it’s pronounced Ho Chi Man City.
More like America's Museum of Shame. Darn, I missed that war. I was a proud Vietnam/Draft resistor....with a brain even at 18 years old. That museum isn't on my "bucket list"
I agree... Shame. I have wanted to visit Vietnam for over 30 years... It was a bucket list item for me. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@andrewabroad50 Thanks for the respectful comment. The irony for me is Vietnam still has a Communistic system which was the reason the US went there in the first place. They also have a capitalistic approach to business and foreign policy. American veterans go there and basically support that economic system and society they fought. I have Vietnamese neighbors across the street. Great people. Vietnam is a smart country. They "play" friends with the US while presently playing "friends" with Putin this week. We were never going to defeat those people.
Yeah, the exact word to say is "no word to explain", love the way you are actually get the point of this museum <3 How did we go through this war? Amazing Vietnam <3
Yes... Horrible time in history. Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for all the information, especially regarding Tuk Tuk's. The TukTuk guy I'm going with charges $28 USD. I'm okay with that, considering it's a round trip and so many stops in between.
I think you will be happy paying the $28. Well worth it. Great experience! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Temples 1. Banteay Kdei 2. Banteay Samre 3. Banteay Srei ... up north. 4. Ta Prohm 5. Bayon (east gate) 6. Angkor Wat
The temple complex was so big and there were so many temples. I did my best to get the names correct. I was so caught up with everything... even a little overwhelmed with Bayon and Angkor Wat. What amazing workmanship! Going to Angkor Wat was a huge bucket list item for me. Thanks for watching and commenting!
One of questions that Robert Mcnamara asked PAV's general named Võ Nguyên Giáp what was it exactly happened at Tonkin? His answer shocked me that "There was NOTHING from aside of North Vietnam at that time"
I have wanted to visit Vietnam since I was a teenager. I grew up with the western Vietnam war movies of the 80s. I choked up several times during our museum visit. Vietnam is a beautiful country. We met some great people and look forward to returning. Thanks for the comment!
The birds for sale at the temple / palace for release. It is for blessings and good fortune. The same is done with fish. You are giving them their lives back.
I didn't find out about buying the birds and setting them free until after we left. We learnt quite a bit this journey. Next time we go back... I'm going to free some birds. Have you traveled the area or are you from Cambodia? Always nice to have local contacts and knowledge 💯
@@andrewabroad50 I have lived on the Big Island of Hawaii for 40 years. I have never been to Cambodia before but will hopefully be there in a few months. I have been up and down in Thailand from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Chiang Ri. Most of my time in central Thailand (Chyiaphum city in Chyiaphum Provence) where my Thai wife has a house and family and rice farm, etc. Been in Vietnam and Laos and "Burma" as well. Plan on being in that region very soon for retirement. Anyway, the Thai people do those things as well with fish and birds. Look for me in Chyiaphum (hahaha no one goes to Chyiaphum). Thanx
Tuke Tuke not Tuck Tuck
Lol... You are correct. 😀

Why are you making excuses for your travelling?...
I have no idea what you're refering too... But I'm interested 😀
I stayed in one of those apartments that you showed near the top pool this Feb. Very high standard & with us been on ground level it was quick to get out. Also had car park at the side.
Yes, the Dewa was nice. Very clean and relaxing. Having the ground floor was convenient for us too. The staff were amazing. We would definitely book another stay there. Thanks for commenting!
Although I'm a bit of a pacifist I still find war history interesting. Mostly to try to have a better understanding from both sides of the table away from the media's biased viewpoints. Great video.

Address of laundry service??
We just googled laundry... I can't remember... 🤔
Well, I made it 4 minutes and 12 seconds, but all he really said was "it's a really local area" over and over. You think you're slumming, pal?

I love it! Canadian through and through Thanks for the comment Kristoferwitha_k, it made me laugh.
I remember going to this museum as a part of our curriculum at university here in Vietnam, and I was shocked and traumatized even though I've learned all about the war through history class.
As a Canadian, the Vietnam war (American War) wasn't taught in school, but I knew a lot about it. I've wanted to go to Vietnam for a long time. The museum choked me up several times. Thanks for watching and commenting. Vietnam is a beautiful country.
Thanks for sharing!
I thank you for watching and commenting! This was a hard video for me... I choked up several times.

We made a mistake by escalating the war, mostly by Lyndon Baines Johnson a war criminal. Looking back in hindsight I think 🤔 the USA 🇺🇸 wanted capitalism but they should have allowed Vietnam 🇻🇳 and their citizens the right to decide themselves. There was a lot of sick leaders back then such as Westmoreland who helped escalate the war. I have met many Vietnamese people who are peaceful people who never wanted war.
I seen your comment and wanted to translate it, then got busy and forgot. I apologize. Vietnam was a beautiful country. It far exceeded our expectations. I say that in several of the videos. I have wanted to visit the country for 30+ years because of the Vietnam (American) War. War is ALWAYS a horrible thing. Innocent people suffer. Now on a different note... The food and coffee was amazing, the best we have had ANYWHERE! The Vietnamese people were welcoming and very friendly. To many examples to cover. We met some really nice people. There were people who spoke no English but we sat and used the translator. Amazing experience. Thank you Google Translate for making those interactions happen. They were unforgettable and I will remember those people for the rest of my life. It always amazes me that where people have suffered the most, they are always the nicest, friendliest, and most compassionate. I wish nothing but the best for Vietnam's people and we will definitely return. To be there during Tet... again, amazing. Thanks for commenting starslight100!
Looking around today... I fear lessons were not learned. I always say, and think it's correct. It's not the people, it's the governments. Thanks for the comment KJJ782!

Kennedy sent advisers for the views then the big dummy Lyndon Johnson sent troops they tried to fight a guerilla war with coventional ideas all Americans killed was awful its like they used our guys like the French foreign legion plus our politicians and generals handicapped our troops what a mess now this guy is showing us a museum

Nice. I've stayed at Lokal several times in the rooms right below you. Last time was in August. 100 baht ($30) a night. Big difference in high season. Killer cookies in the dispensary! Relatively quiet. Safe. I love all the orchids they have growing off the trees.

I see many familiar pieces of military hardware. I have flown on the CH 47 helicopter and have also received training on the maintenance of that helicopter. I was stationed at Con Thein cam lo and Quang Tri military bases. While T Con Thein I remember seeing one of the very large Allis Chalmers dozens on the north end of the base that had been destroyed during one of the many battles with the communist north Vietnamese. I'm sure the communist have their own propaganda version of the events. Our only reason for being is South Vietnam was to assist our ally. Another fact about the war LBJ micro managed the bombing of the war in the north Vietnam. Had the bombing been properly conducted the bombing should have been done as was the bombing that was done during world War two in Germany and Japan. Having said that the war should have been over in six months. When north Vietnam stopped the aggression on south Vietnam and only then should the massive bombing of north Vietnam been stopped. That is what should have happened. Instead LBJ picked targets like bridges and never really destroyed the true military targets. That is the fact in this matter.
I really liked your comment. Always like to hear first hand accounts.
@andrewabroad50 I remember when LBJ went on television claiming that one of our navy ships had been attacked in the gulf of Tonkin. It was later determined that was a made up story. After I had been drafted into the military and was in the class room training portion of this training I remember the training also including speeches that LBJ had made previously about why we were in South Vietnam supporting our ally.
The War would have been stopped in one day if you give LBJ a riffle and fight in the Vietnamese forrest.

At the end what did it accomplish..(nothing) both sides lost ..the politics of the war put people in America against the soldiers who fought and died for this country when we came back..the soldiers got the sh*t end of the stick..by the American people and the Veterans Administration denying benefits to the veterans when they came back broken and scared..Only the Vietnam veteran knows what he went through..God bless our Vietnam veterans..1970-1971 5th infantry ♦️ Division
I 💯 agree with your comment! I have written and deleted this reply several times. Your correct... only those that were there really know. I had a high school friend that went Airbourne after high school. He did some peace keeping as a Canadian. I know it is much different... but what happened in Rowanda messed him up bad. He doesn't talk much about it. You get fragments of it when he drinks.... from what I know, it would have changed me too. This is what I'll say to you my brother... thank you for sacrifice.

Thanks for the watch and comment Olehippy. I'll have to do a quick search about that. It did have a layout that would make sense for a hospital. Have you been back?

There was no toilet paper at a few public restrooms. Some you have to buy the tp when you go in. All the hotels had tp 👍😁
Yes, BC has to be my favourite province -the views are spectacular including in your video. Not sure I'd feel too safe camping out there with the bears around though -but 'Glamping' -definitely. I once took a bus from Vancouver, BC to Seattle and then down the USA coast as well by Amtrak. Loved seeing the Northern Cascade mountains both in Canada and The USA. Very Cosy RV you have there and you live in the best of both worlds with a boat as well. I suspect though, the winters are less chilly than the Toronto Side to stay in an RV.
The whole west coast and Rockies are beautiful. One of my favorite places, except the long winters. We wont be rving through winter. May head south this year to stay warm 👍
No American destroyer was ever sunk in the Gulf of Tonkin... c'mon pacifist Canuck.

The North Vietnamese party line STILL spreads their misinformation and blatent lies. Unfortunately Communism is all about a false front with a VERY prejudiced outlook. Sure America committed war crimes... but NOTHING like the Vietnamese did to their own countrymen! I love the country of Vietnam! But buying in to their communist rhetoric is a laugh.
Vietnam was a beautiful country! Thanks for watching and commenting. Always 2 sides to every action :-)
Hello how are you?
Hello! Sorry so long to respond... very busy. We are doing well and thanks for asking. Hope all is well with you too :-)
Thanks Lindsay and Andrew for another great video. Fort Steele looks very fascinating and I love those old towns. Pity about the Perspex or glass sheeting in the old houses, but I guess these days things would go missing if they weren't in place to stop wandering hands. Keep up the great work you two.
We love the old stuff too. Yea, the plexiglass was a pain, but I would assume it's to stop wandering hands also.
Love Clydesdales, my grampa ran a team in his youth.
oh ya... neat. Very nice horses for sure... and BIG!
I think they will need more of those step bridges over that canal eventually to even out the crowds and extend the business-and most likely, they will work that one out. They did it in Malacca old town in Malaysia. I love Chiang Mai by the way, was there a month ago and been many times. I used to teach there at one time. I speak enough Thai to order food as it is essential for me since I am mostly vegan. It's a bit tricky for me in Vietnam though where I watched your recent video to Nha Trang since I need to learn some Vietnamese. (I was in Vietnam couple of weeks ago too -now back in The UK) Its#' a pity the visa went down to only 30 days in Thailand compared to Vietnam where it has currently been extended to a very comfortable 90 days. I was in Sudbury Ontario about 7 months ago too.
Now that you mention it, they could use another bridge or 2. Chiang Mai was one of our favorite places so far and we are slowly learning Thai. I think we are going to retire in Thailand. They seem to be always changing the visa lengths and laws in Thailand... lol I think it's all part of the experience and loved every minute of it! Sorry it took so long to reply, little busy, but thanks for watching and commenting. Really appreciate it!
Wow very nice
Thank you for watching and commenting!

Great to see my Canadian friends back on the RUclips waves again since their Amsterdam adventure. Love the RV and the Ram and your yacht ⛵. Great part of the world there in BC. I spent my younger days working at Jasper Park Lodge " high" in the Rockies and had a ball! Keep up the excellent videos and don't worry about the sun glare. It probably looks worse to you than us. Say a big hi to your co producer, Lindsay. Stay safe. Paul
Thanks Paul... Lindsay says hello back.

Hey Perry... Thanks. Hope all is well!
Nice RV, you can get an adapter hose for that BBQ.
Thanks Joe. I figured you could get an adapter somewhere. Still haven't looked. We bought a 3 pack of the small tanks and still have 1 left. Maybe I'll check for an adapter when it runs out.
