RESOLVED - Lenovo Thinkpad P1 freezing (1/2)
Просмотров 83 тыс.5 лет назад
See follow up video here: ruclips.net/video/XqzaFUEdvyo/видео.html My Thinkpad P1 is freezing sporadically, requiring me to power off the computer by holding the power button for 5 seconds. This can happen any time from 2 minutes after booting the computer, to many hours after booting. After one freeze has occurred, it is common for another freeze to occur within minutes after hard-rebooting th...
What happens if the power button doesn’t work
So you have no solution? And you wasted our tike watching you silly babbling. PUBLIC NOTICE!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS VIDEO, HE DID NOT RESOLVE ANYTHING!!!!
Yesterday solved this problem, it was the ram so I changed it and works fine.
RESOLVED - hey guys take out middle screw on bottom of laptop and make sure all screws are not too tight ..i have done all this and now i can pick up laptop and move it around ect and works perfectly
In what world is this a resolution video? Stop making video.

I'm starting to get these issues on the p1 GEN 5 which is a year old. I purchased it for CAD & 3D work. Recently it keeps freezing on me mid use a few times a day. Mind you this was an $8,436 AUD investment for this machine because I wanted the Nvidia RTX A5500 GPU. I'm currently going through their tech support and I have outright asked for a refund. Luckily I paid for an additional 5 year warranty on this machine because a year to the date, it started playing up.
Why did you make a video about a problem you couldn’t solve? It would be well worth your and everyone else’s time if you waited until your issue was resolved and posted a video about that
Mine's similar except it freezes with a turned off screen when I try to bring it back from windows lock (normally after lunch). Except that I don't move it.
Dude, get to the point!
Some problem with a thinkpad T14 AMD Gen 1, but in my case the screen goes black
Same I throw it on the window 😠
I recently encountered the same problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad e590 (3 1/2 years old). As a first step, I verified that all pending software updates had been completed by running Lenovo vantage. The problem still continued, and in the next few days it became too severe. I noticed that the laptop would be functional in the morning for the first 45 minutes, but once I started working on some CPU intensive tasks, it became too vulnerable. At this point, just moving the laptop or even typing something would cause the "freeze" issue. I contacted Lenovo support and explained the issue, but since the laptop was not covered under an extended warranty, I did not get any useful information from them. They insisted on "reimagining" the machine with the Lenovo image as the first step in resolving the issue. However, I was convinced that it had nothing to do with the OS or drivers because the symptoms were more related to hardware. Finally, I thought of doing some troubleshooting myself and realized it could be related to the heatsink/cooling system, though the fan seemed to be working as expected. Finally, with the help of some troubleshooting videos available on RUclips, I decided to open the laptop to have a look. After a couple of days of sustained effort, I found the root cause. I was convinced that a deteriorating layer of "thermal paste" was causing the issue. The thermal paste, I learned, is critical to maintaining an optimal temperature inside the unit. It is applied on top of the CPU and GPU to transfer heat between the heatsink and the motherboard. The most accurate information about this is available on the following page, provided by Intel. www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/gaming/resources/how-to-apply-thermal-paste.html#:~:text=Thermal%20Paste%20%2D%20A%20silvery%2Dgray,designed%20to%20dissipate%20that%20heat To my luck, I found a decently rated thermal paste on Amazon for just A$5.88. www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09NJM6C1C?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I received the item from Amazon within a couple of days and applied it exactly the way it was recommended on the above Intel page. Now, It's been a few days since I applied the thermal paste, and the laptop is as smooth as it used to be earlier. Those two weeks were hell for me because the laptop would crash every 20 minutes. As of today, it is in perfect working order, and I'm not facing any problems with thermal throttling either.
Thank you
Don’t waste your time watching this video bc the title is very misleading: he doesn’t have a clue how to resolve the issue 😢
Hi bro! I have also same issue , Can you please help me, How to solve ?
Facing the same problem with ideapad ! Any solutions please?
hello brother did you fix the problem i have the same pc any solution by now ?
My Lenovo T14 sometimes freezes in the same way. I have noticed that this happens when I move or touch the computer when it is hot. I haven't found a solution.
Same for mine too
Have you guys found a solution. I have a t14 gen 3 and it's doing it now, not great to see that this is a common problem that people don't know the exact cause.
BRUHHHHHH this literally happened to me while I was playing minecraft. It happened right when I landed on my enderman farm that I was building over the void. So my "D" key got frozen and made me walk right off the edge of the platform and plumet to my death. Everything lost. GG
Wow that seemed like such a long 2 videos just explaining that the laptop freezes and the only fix was to take it to a tech and replace motherboard.
Yeah, the primary reason for recording/uploading these videos was to share them with lenovo support. My goal was to convince them this was a hardware issue. It worked (at least after return it to them for a 2nd time) - they replaced the motherboard.
Get to the darn point!
to stop the freezing you need the laptop die
I have the same problem. But sometimes I experience this just by not picking it up. It happens when I’m doing work on it or if it sits for a little bit unattended, but also plugged in.
My lenovo Yoga 730 freezes when it's plugged to a power adapter. I think because while its plugged my laptop switches to the Geforce GTX GPU rather than the internal GPU. I guess it's my Geforce is faulty.
i still dont know why this is happening
I have a Lenovo L15 and it has the exact same issue. the keyboard led is still resonding, but else it is totally, frozen. It is with all original components. I did not ad RAM and the RAM-test is just fine. It freezes even if I don't move it. Well I think I will have to "fix" it the same way you did. send it to a technician. luckily I have advanced on site support. as this is a company device. so annoying. but thanks for your video and update. Maybe I can get it to freeze at the cpu level, as in your 2nd video. rgds
I have lenovo thinkpad (L470 series). I am facing the same issue. Must be a problem in motherboard and can't fix it. Motherboard is very expensive and I just can't take the risk to change it. I mean What if I change the motherboard and same issue happens again. 😳
My trackpoint freezes intermittently and lenovo dont help happened within a month of owing it and 11 months of ownership still does it China owned company now and they dont give a shit In the IBM days they were better Bye bye Lenovo
Mine is doing the exact same thing. to be honest I've had the problem for a while now and just put up with it until now. It doesn't randomly freeze while you use it, the freezing only happens when the laptop is put down and and suddenly not used.
hi mate have u fixed your laptop? i have same issue dont know what to do
@@Mil-zu9qv I managed to fix it for a few days just by updating the graphics driver. but it's still doing it. I think it may be a loose internal cable. My think pad has other issues though with the back cover screws so I haven't got around to fixing it properly.
THANKS SO MUCH
Stupid video
I think the issue is mainly due to a conflict between the RAM & CPU. It depends on the RAM frequency, I changed my RAM to a 2400 Mhz ram instead of the 2666Mhz one. I will test the machine for few days, I hope it resolves the issue.
Even with the 2400Mhz RAM the issue still persists.
@@minaFbeshay then the mainboard has probably an issue. I have a similar device and it has its original ram, still freezing. I will open a support call tomorrow. I think it has the same issue.

Any upadte on how it went?
Any update please
Are u stupid?
I occasionally get this on my Lenovo IdealPad C340 on Windows 10. I have to close the lid and re-open it so it unfreezes.
Same issue. I suspected because I want using the original charger
My Lenovo think pad also freezes ! Don’t buy this one !
Man I have exactly the same problem
so annoying, mine does this too all the time. sometimes weeks with no problems then bam, freezes multiple times in one day. btw, i don't think this has anything to do with holding or moving the laptop. it's literally just random. this laptop is my workstation and i spend 8+ hours per day and have encountered probably 50 freezes over the past year. laptop is stationary on my desk. should have returned to IT for replacement but now i'm rolling off project in a couple of months, so i just deal with it.
You should send it back as soon as you can. Lenovo is sending out laptops with defective chipsets in their motherboards. Thats why the computer is freezing. I have the same issue with my "new" x1 nano which i bought from lenovo's website. I was able to complete the diagnostic test without the computer freezing. Im going to print the diagnostic test and put it in the packaging when they send it. If they dont send me a new computer without a defective motherboard im not buying Lenovo ever again. I paid for express shipping as I needed the computer quickly now I have to wait 10 fucking days for them to get their shit together after paying 1500 dollars for a computer and solving the diagnostic issue.
My Lenovo x240 was working fine but is now doing the same! Lenovo should speak up in the issue.
Each time I have had to reboot. Very inconvenient.
@@PapsanDog were u able to fix your laptop? I'm having the same issue. Lenovo replaced my motherboard and OS but the problem still persists.

Im having a similar problem right now, please provide instructions, i have put my research paper, topic relate materials on desktop... 🙏 i really need help..anyone?
The problem is that Lenovo are like many companies now, they don't have experienced/skilled repair people who can diagnose and repair a fault, instead they have semi-skilled workers following a set of instructions.
I solved the problem after digging a little bit. In general the freezing problem with no BSOD is caused by a hardware issue and particulary a memory ram. So in my thinkpad T14 the second memory (the removeble one) was faulty or it was a compatibility issue. My laptop has a soldered memory stick wich is pointed at 3200Mhz CL22 and the second stick (wich is removeble) was 2666Mhz CL 19. In theory it shouldn't be no problem but I ended by replacing 2666Mhz memory with a 3200Mhz CL22 oneand now all works as it should. Good luck and no freezeing thinkpads :)
Interesting, I picked up a new T14 i7 today and have had the same thing happen at least 3 times. I have initially suspected driver issues as it needed to update. I will now watch and see if this happens again.
Something bad is happening with Lenovo's products.. I'm so disappointed :-( btw how to run a test tool which you used?
So, I guess it is not caused by a CPU in Lenovo Ideapad 5 with AMD Ryzen 4500 U...
Actually I encountered the pressure-applying issue as well. So I guess it is a hardware problem.
One way to resolve (maybe I should say bypass) this problem is to hold down the ON/OFF bottom for around 3 seconds to turn the PC into sleep mode (don't hold the bottom too long then the PC would be turned off), and then press the ON/OFF bottom again and sign in. You will return to the screen where it was frozen.
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU SAVED MY LIFE
Are you god you just saved MY LIFe !🥳✋😌thank you so much !
i have new laptop. it happened 2 times.. i have ideapad gaming 3.. hmm why?
Oh my god Thank you so so so much!
didn't work😭
Ok I just got this BRAND NEW C940 and it’s doing this crap!!!!!! It’s not even a day old yet!!!! So the dam motherboard or keyboard shouldn’t go bad.
Omg same,my dad just got me this laptop yesterday! It just froze and I have class in a couple of days.If it does not unfreeze I am in big trouble!
@@megan4463 Tell him to take it back like I did. He can swap it out for something else. I end up getting a Dell. Good luck
If you ever need help with your laptops again. I am in Mt.Lebanon. You can find me on Google.
RESOLVED - I just wanted to report that I recently sent this laptop back to Lenovo for repair. Whilst it took 2 repair attempts, they ultimately replaced the system board (which I assume means the whole motherboard), and it is fixed. No more freezing - it’s a great laptop now!
Have you not change system boar last year and was still freezing?
Hi there! I’m having same issue! Was your laptop on a warranty? Were there any charges? And is it still working? Issue resolved? Thank you!! 🤗
Luciana The laptop is still working now (no more freezing) 5 months after the repair where they replaced the system board. When it was repaired, it was still within the 3 year warranty, and there were no charges.

I am having exactly same issue for last 6 months. So is it a hardware issue ? Do I have to get the motherboard replaced ?
@@SrikanthLukka The computer is crap. The default motherboard the computer comes with will freeze most likely. They replaced my motherboard too and it lasted me for 1.5 years. As of today, my laptop got a new motherboard that I replaced and I'm right back to the freezing. NEVER get a lenovo again
@@kendrikrichmond5433 so the replaced motherboard also is freezing after 1.5yrs ?
@@SrikanthLukka Worse, the motherboard fried itself and a few minor components. I realized that I actually have a different laptop which is the Lenovo y700 gaming laptop. But I will never buy from them again as this $1000 laptop has cost me too much time and money. Edit: to my knowledge there are two motherboards (maybe more) used by Lenovo. One is naturally defective which gives most people the freeze (priced at 175) and the other is the new standard which may or may not last long (priced at 300). I know this because I replaced the new motherboard with the (new) cheaper one and it went right back to freezing at random points
@@SrikanthLukka Hey, just wanted to give you an update because I am pissed. It's been about 2 weeks since I commented and aside from the freezing keyboard the laptop has once again stop turning on due to a black screen. I pray you have better luck then me, and as I advised you before. Please do NOT trust Lenovo. My laptop was a $1000+ so definitely high end
To everyone with this problem. I found what is causing the problem for my T450. The symptoms were just the same as in the video. The freeze is caused by a faulty key in the keyboard which is stuck in a loop I guess (constantly pressing). When I disconnected the keyboard from the motherboard and connected an external keyboard and mouse the problem was gone. Try it and see if you need a keyboard replacement. Trust me It sounds ridiculous but that caused an entire system freeze for me, even in the bios! It took me a month of testing to find it.
The freeze also happens to me too, but sometimes it triggers when I haven't pressed a single button. Could it still be the issue? I don't have any external keyboards to I'll need to buy a new one that's why I'm asking
Please describe how to disconnect the keyboard. I am pretty sure that’s my problem because my keyboard isn’t working and repair shop said wasnt worth fixing. Had been using external keyboard but had just moved the computer and forgot to plug in.
How do I disconnect it?
I connected an external keyboard and mouse but they would not work...everything was frozen. Had to force shut down, holding the on/off button.
