Great video. I really appreciate all the time you put into making this video. It really helped gel the concepts for me. Thank you! Looking forward to your next part.
Thanks, man, for making a concise and entertaining video, it's so hard to find lore videos that don't go on for hours so appreciate your work.
The Monte Cook Games White books are always amazing. This one is really interesting.
Hey, great vid. What software are you using to play online?
@@spuddytrash441 I pretty much use FoundryVTT exclusively for all my online games. Even got a little fancier with it over time. If you check out the game I ran for Bobworldbuilder, NerdImmersion, and a few others (was called Lonely Grey), I started to step it up a little more. And that was awhile ago. I've streamlined my setup even more since then.
Boring and uninspiring is the idea of zombies, in general.
I think medicine sould be either intelligence or wisdom in dnd. Because yes, having medical knowledge can help, but having experience as a doctor can help you know what is best for that person, because there is a lot to keep in mind when helping a person. Someone might not respond well to some treatments then others.
Excellent!
hell yeah!
As a quick note, knowing level of difficulty is extremely helpful for learning to GM the system, since this is a struggle point for many people. The rest is fantastic though!
Subtraction and division are bad game design.
@@Apeiron242 good thing there's no math needed during the actual play of this game!
Followers! And 'how to solo' or any content for solo players would be amazing. Thank you.
At 19:00 you mention that you have your own setup that doesn't add all of the Type abilities to your sheet when you drag and drop. How did you do that?
@@VitruvianMeeple I made my own content mod. Even formatted it to work with Moulinette so it's easily searchable. Also added all the other MCG products, numenera, the strange, etc. Took a lot of work but it was worth it.
Nice overview. I have two questions / concerns. 1) When I went looking for the CSRD modules I found the compendium, but I couldn't find the CSRD Character Creation one. Is there a link to this one available? 2) Where can I find something like the abstract grid you showed? I think that would be extremely helpful for me since I have a hard time visualizing combat. Thanks for everything! I've been making my way through your channel the last couple days since I found it and it's been great!
For some of those abstract grids, just ping me either on my discord or the Cypher Unlimted discord and I'll throw them up for you. As for the character creation module.... hrmm I don't see it right now either. I have my own custom module with all that stuff from all the MCG products, so I didn't look too closely. But I'm not seeing it. I'll ask if that content was maybe wrapped around to the main CSRD or maybe the community module.
I just started this a few days ago and the Character Creation module no longer exists from what I can tell. Links to it from the Cypher System Foundry page link to a 404 page.
I always wanted to be a Glenn from Accounting Witch.
Great overview, Qed!
what is even happening
@@AlexDeMiro I'm learning you the basics. Now hush up and eat your dinner.
Agree on medicine being intelligence based thanks for that rant!
Woooo vagabond
Bruh - so glad I found this channel. You’re like the “Matt Colville” for the Cypher!!! That’s meant to be an extraordinary compliment. Love this content and have been looking for something like this for years. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the guide Qed!!! This was fantastic!
Thank you qed!
I love that you're covering Vagabond! Looking forward to more videos.
Hope you have lots of fun! =)
I really appreciate that you show how character creation works
Just bought a Foundry license yesterday to run an Old Gods of Appalachia campaign. It has been daunting. This is amazing! Thank you! So...a question. In your bare bones and medium difficulty levels, we see how a PC would make rolls and it automates damage. What about as the GM, how does this work for adversaries? Easy method is track hp on paper, but otherwise would you click on the token or...I think it is called actor?...and manually lower the HP? Just want to start strong and not find out 2 weeks from now I could have done it a better way lol
@@BNeffDC several ways to do it. You can right click on the token to adjust it, do it from the NPC sheet, and there are mods like Always HP that add even easier ways. Although I think Always HP is currently broken sadly. I'm waiting for that one to get an update. Easiest way without mods is definately right click the token. You can type something like -5 and it'll math it for you instead of having to type the new amount
@@BNeffDC of you have any other questions feel free to join my discord and/or the Cypher Unlimited discord. Always glad to help more
Thank you!!!
this is such a great explanation!!! ill be gming a campaign using the cypher system and will absolutely recommend this video to my players! thank you for taking the time to make such a great video
Number one reason IMO: Your setting is not a high fantasy world. D&D/Pathfinder does a lot of things well, both in narrative and tactical campaigns, but as soon as you are not playing a high magic setting, you have to homebrew and redesign the whole system including new classes, skills and feats. However I don't think Cypher System is anywhere near easy to run, at least compared to the two D&D systems. Encounter balacing is difficult compared to D&D and a lot can go wrong. In D&D a DM can fudge rolls to ensure combat goes to way intended by the plot, in Cypher System there is little you can do when players repeadedly botch their defense rolls. I get why they let the players do the rolls: a successful defense is more satisfying than an enemy's missed attack. But in contrast do D&D, in Cypher System nobody has plot armor.
every time someone talks about Numenera - I want to run another Numenera campaign LOL
That was really useful for me, thank you! Where do you get all your tokens from, or how do you create them?
@@KryptykPhysh the pictures are from a variety of sources. As for the tokens, the Tokenizer mod let's you make them directly on foundry with custom frames, recolor, etc. Foundry actually even just added some built in token fx that don't need a mod to use.
@@Qedhup OK, cool! I really need to dig into each of these mods in detail, then. Thanks again!
❤ Awesome overview! This is extremely helpful for new GMs! Thanks, Qedhup! Your own setup looks really nice! At the moment, I don’t have the time to prepare my games like this, so it’s mostly your moderate setup in my games, but boy, I wish I could do it like that!
Old Gus’ CSRD page is nice, but I want to add that the complete rulebook and rules is also in the CSRD Compendium. While it doesn’t look as nice as Gus’ version, it adds interactivity. You can drag & drop *everything* from there. You don’t need to go through all the compendia in Foundry, the rulebook has everything linked. All abilities, all cyphers and artifacts, all roll tables, all creatures and NPCs, all the equipment. Easy drag & drop onto the sheet or onto the canvas. 22:54
Pinning this comment. Anyone reading comments, this is a great note by someone that knows the setup in and out.
I generally advise against using the creation pack. As far as I know, it won’t be maintained anymore, and while it saves you a few clicks when creating your character (but not actually if you need to delete all the abilities again), you can’t make changes to the automated stuff. For example, if you want to rename or change the descriptor, or want to add another, you can’t. Or if you want to swap out a focus ability for another, you can’t easily (you’ll need to do it manually, then). If you delete your descriptor, type, or focus, it will delete everything from that descriptor, type, or focus. I’ve had people who wanted to make changes to their character and basically deleted the character completely. You can just use the CSRD Compendium and go to the Rulebook section. It has everything you need as drag & drop. It’s easy, consistent to use, and it’s flexible in case you make some changes. 17:19
The Hide Favorite Button hides the star of the favorites unless you hold alt. Usually, favorite items always show that star, but some might find that distracting, so the setting only changes the sorting, but doesn’t add that star all the time. 9:09
Marko really nailed it, and Old Gus's reference site is incredible too. I tend to take a mostly basic-to-moderate approach to my Foundry setup. I have a simple scene background with relative distance boxes and the distance circular grid, Dice So Nice (of course), and a couple of small QoL adjustments. Everything else is bone stock, or custom to a given PC sheet, etc. Thanks for the tips, Qed! I may have to implement some of this in the future.

I appreciate this video. Thank you
I should have done a bonus!!
Fun idea! Here is my list based on the ones I want to play the most if I had time, GM skills, and a group. Bonus: The wierd (get it, its a bonus 😊) 10. Path of the Planebreaker (cool setting, fear that its too overwhelming with all the possibilities) 9. The Strange (like Planebreaker but with option to do less fantasy options) 8. Dandy Dog (Might actually get to play this, seems like a fun lille one shot option) 7. Claim the Sky (Evil mini campaign sounds fun) 6. Cypher System Core (If I had the time I would use it to make own setting) 5. Arcana of the Ancients (my group mainly want to play D&D, this might be my only way to play Numenera) 4. Stealing Stories (I just think its a cool idea) 3. Numenera Destiny (For when we need more depth to #2) 2. Numenera Discovery (First MCG setting I fell in love with) 1. Invisible Sun (I have the box, would love to play it ifI had the time andskills to give it all it needs. Its just a mindblowing cool setting.) I didn't add Stars, because I think there are so many other Scifi games I rather play. Ptolus I have little interest in becase is so much to read, and too close to D&D. Old Gods is the least interesting setting for me as I know nothing about the source material. For horror I rather goto Mothership or Morkborg.
I am so excited for neon rain and the weird west books.
Glad you're getting more views and subs!
Where's part 2?
TOO MANY BOOKS but fr I was not expecting that number one spot, good choice!
great list
Great Video Qed! Let's keep the top 10 lists coming. Man coming up with a list was freaking hard right!
12:22 you mention other rules you planned to talk about later - any chance you’ll end up making those videos?
2 things... 1. Ok, Im gonna do a video now on my top 10 MCG products :P LOL! 2. Ptolus did indeed start back in 2E, during Monte's TSR days... and the Setting was used by Monte, Bruce, Sean, and others as the setting used to develop the d20 System and then D&D 3E...so it's got a massive history to D&D's legacy. Awesome video, Qedhup!
Look at that! i got my facts right for once. My smooth brain did not betray me.. this time (I'm watching you brain.
Hey, I've been killing myself trying to find what the UI module you are using is, I can't find it anywhere, I like the darker design
@@Nitz oh I made it myself. I've done a few different ones. Ping me on my discord or something and I'll toss it to you.
@@Qedhup Sweet, thanks for the quick reply
10:58 the start
but the buttons are not connected to Star Citizen data, right?
@@travisco13 they work for things in the game, but can't read those states or react to them
Building up is not what modern DMs or players want to do. Theres a bit of appeal to traddition and sunk cost fallacy if this were an argument, instead im simply commenting why i think Cypher will never gain ground. Telling you to build it yourself just makes you want to do it yourself. Thats why tear down rules are so appealing.
@@CobaltContrast I mean. According to a ton of people I've talked with, you're wrong. There's plenty that want to build up over tear down. But you do you!
