Kewl .... I like the way you have inserted the street names etc. Keep up the good work.
Thankyou. The Best Bike Cam I've ever seen.
Do not like big hill but going down is fun.
Rip Kent Rd bike paths.
Can you go the city to Frankston on the 🚲or🛴or🛹soon or 2024 summer time.
Thank you so much for doing this. I’m going to head down inner city rail trail tomorrow cheers
The 1st half down the creek was glorious but the ride up the m80 seemed unpleasant. It is nice to know I could catch the train to sunshine and do this loop one day.
I was going to ask if this was filmed during the pandemic because the whole city felt kind of empty and quiet. But it says you filmed it in March 2019 so this was before the pandemic. Where are all the people? I don't remember my hometown feeling so empty and quiet like this...
Fifty years from now, this will be a useful historical record. By then, St Georges Rd will be surrounded by 10 story apartment towers.
Looking forward to 2025 ? when this part of the Upfield will all be under elevated rail tracks!
Wow this is actually allowed in Canberra?
Hey, I see your videos and I am interested in your content. Could you make a video from Caulfield station to Flinders St ?
Is your raw footage very shaky? If so, what settings work best in Davinchi for stabalisation? I've tried a few different settings but it never looks great. Love the vids!
I don't do any stabilisation in the edit. All raw from camera
Is there a video for a bike ride from Hackett to Parliamentary Zone and Watson to Belconnen - bike roop tracks
Didn’t know there was clips for bikes, interesting to know!
Just found your channel, fantastic work here!
This is super helpful. I’d love to see a ride from Brunswick to Richmond.
I have seen several videos of you cycling in Melbourne and one distinct observation I saw is that there were not many people cycling despite having a dedicated cycling lane. Although it appears that most lane were not protected, in my opinion cycling was low based on what I saw on your clips. Do you agree with my observation?
I cycled when I had time to do so. Often Friday between peaks or weekend. Commuter paths and lanes are busiest at commuter times. Such as this example: twitter.com/MelbourneWay/status/1224586349094653952?t=EX8xzF7UuEAJyUi8FF7CfQ&s=19
A painted bicycle gutter is far, far inferior to properly protected cycling infrastructure. One is dancing with death and trusting every individual distracted driver to see you at all times, while protected infrastructure is as safe as going for a stroll on a footpath
Hey mate that's fantastic footage there but my only criticism would be just incase you are not aware of it. Is you legally by law are not allowed to come up the insides of any cars or vechicles with Indicators on and displayed witch ever side of the vechicle that they are on. So if they are signalling left you must not ride up the left hand inside of the car or vechicle. And if it's the right Indicator on and displayed then you must not ride up the right hand inside of the car or vechicle ethier. Doesn't matter if the car or vechicle is stopped in traffic or at the Traffic lights or atan intersection you still are not allowed to do it. As if the car or vechicle driver doesn't see or realise that your coming up there insides they may turn across your paths by accident and side swipe you and knock you off your bike and you could get seriously injured or even possibly killed by the car or vechicle accidentally running you over as well also. So the best thing to do is to keep back behind the car or vechicle and wait for them to go first and then proceed on your way doesn't matter if there is a protected or unprotected bike lane there or not still shouldn't do it for own safety is the only reason as to why I'm telling you this to keep you safe and out of harms way from motorists as a fellow cyclist myself from experience. Stay safe and happy cycling mate and thanks for the great footage hope to see some more of your great footage in the future ahead. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the video! Conflict between bikes and turning cars isn't as simple as some people think. Here's a blog post running through the issues. bikemelbourne.org/2021/10/road-rules-left-turning-cars/
So now I'm healthier. Only thanks to Weedborn :)
7:26 I rode on that little section last week and got beeped at by a taxi driver for no reason :( I do love the route from John St down to Canning St it's so poggers
13:23 before I got into urbanism I would always love being in places like this but I could never articulate why exactly. i only wish we had more of it
zamn that is a sexy bike I want one now
babe wake up time for a new urban aus cycle cam video
Looks great. Wish we had these lanes.
Cool stuff! Slightly sad that Geelong seems to be following the US-style protected bike lanes rather than having cycle paths attached to the pavement (like Copenhagen or street-adjacent sections of the Dutch network), and the high kerbs on either side of a bike lane is our own brand of silly. Still, better than nothing -- it certainly looks a lot safer and more comfortable than riding next to motor vehicle traffic.
Check the blog post in the description. The design approach Geelong has taken allows the whole corridor to be built quickly with potential for future upgrades. High quality Dutch/Danish infrastructure tends to be expensive for local councils and where it is built, it's often short and doesn't connect well into other bicycle routes. Not that I'm against higher quality infrastructure!
@@urbanaus5752 Ah, yep, I see in the blog post you're way ahead of me! Also, I didn't realize the plan was so extensive for Geelong, so future updates are more likely than I thought. I understand the financial and practical issues with introducing an entire cycle path network and I certainly don't expect that any time soon. What I was referring to was that even on the small scale (e.g. what kerbing should be next to cyclists, where bicycles should cross junctions, which side of the left turn lane the bikes should be, etc.) so often these developments in Australia and the US seem to be experiments with designs long since abandoned in places with high cycle usage which makes me scratch my head a bit.
@@urbanaus5752 I've slowly come to favour that approach after seeing how well it worked in Seville. A quick-n-dirty sparse protected network can be made very quickly (they covered the whole city in three years) and while it's not all that comfortable it is safe and therefore will get used. And once it's getting used it's a whole lot easier to justify filling in the gaps and upgrading the quality. Great to see it coming to Australia.
Great ride, have walked and driven around Canberra for years now but never on a bike. Thanks for posting.
it's a real shame it cuts off just short of a proper safe intersection with Malop Street. So close!!
Pedalled all over East and South Geelong as a chemist delivery boy in the 1940/50s, definitely no bike lanes. Now, I'm in the car. Thanks for this different view.
Geelong certainly know how to build a separated bike lane. Those intersections crossing are brilliant.
Geelong know how to build a proper separated bike lane, especially at the start of the video crossing the intersection of Fyans road.
Thank you for the excellent ride , it reminds my cycle around in Melbourne back in 2017. Love watching more from you !
What brand seat is that? My wife wants a more comfortable seat for her bike. Loving the videos too.
It was a generic brand $20 seat from ebay. Similar to this one, but double check your needs before buying. www.ebay.com.au/itm/203859113163?hash=item2f76f334cb:g:eM0AAOSwQaFiHz3M
Thanks for the great content!!
22:34 Who’s that cutie?
Thanks for the video. Are you based in Canberra now?
Thanks! Nah, just popped up for a week in Jan.
Is there a free tram service in Canberra like melbourne
No, only one tram route
Wow, and I can remember driving across the river in the valley that is now Lake Burley Griffin. But....I did expect a bike ride. I'll be patient. Thanks, though.
Bike ride is already uploaded and will be published on 27 Feb 😁
@@urbanaus5752 Great. Haven't been around Canberra since '82. I really enjoy your rides.
I used to imagine Canberra to have been an Australian utopia, an imposing urban icon. It is moving in that direction, only now with light-rail that is becoming a global trend, but it is still the "mediocre country-town", defined by its mid-20th-century Americanised structure and suburban sprawl. If it had followed it's original plan faithfully, as illustrated by Mahony Griffin, I'm sure it would have provided a more robust structure to be fit for the 21st-century; with trains, mid-density, a New Australian natural style, lake features, walkability, etc. But alas, as with many things, bureaucracy can be short-sighted.
I actually really really love canberra right now, I just think the city centre is a bit neglected at the moment. Lots of work is being done in braddon, barton, around the lake, and some suburban areas (Campbell has a new main walk which is absolutely phenomenal). I'll admin the Gungahlin town centre is coming along nicely but parts are really unpleasant and unwalkable too, and don't get me started on the carpark wasteland of majura park. I appreciate the effort being put into canberra though
@@TobyVanderZwart Yeah this is about accurate. Kingston Foreshore is a nice addition too for the south. After the light rail becomes more of a prominent feature of Civic, I'm sure the new developments of those surface carparks will result in much much more investment there
That's a quiet day on the Maribyrnong trail! I do use the adjacent road as there isn't much traffic.
Plane in 21:34
Another nice ride. It's good to see people out and about, but when it's this busy it shows the limitations of shared paths imo. 34:55 That timing with the train coming into shot is amazing!
Some steep hills at the start of this one!
Long time no see
how do you turn right at an intersection? can u position urself towards the right side of the road like a car?
Bicycle riders can perform a hook turn at any intersection unless signed otherwise. Here's a video explainer from RACV. ruclips.net/video/eQGWUgoJA0Y/видео.html&ab_channel=RACV
Hi Have you got your new bike yet if so do a vid on it. I,m looking for one like that. Thank,s.
Great video. I live along the trail. It's nice to ride along it.
Dear friend! Thank you for your work. Very interesting videos!
Pretty much my cycle route to work. Coming from Thornbury I join this route from the north at the "unnamed" lane from Hartington Street, then eventually turn right at Gertrude Street, on to Nicholson Street, Victoria Parade and Spring Street to the corner of Little Lonsdale Street. There have been improvements since your film, especially to the crossing at Alexandra Parade.
36:16 Love the train with the circle things!
