Seymour Duncan P90 and DiMarzio P90 review
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.2 года назад
In this video I demonstrate the stock Seymour Duncan P90s (B3 and N3) that came with my Godin LG P90 guitar. This review is more about the basics of why I wanted to switch from a really great pickup set to a hum-cancelling option. The Seymour Duncans are amazing but the hum was driving me crazy. The DiMarzio Virtual P90s held up and solved the problem, but also added some additional mojo. Times...

After much research I chose the Lewitt LCT 440 Pure for my home studio and I'm glad I did. It did not disappoint. Crystal clear audio in a no-frills yet professional package. Most spoken audio is the Rode VideoMicro running through my iPhone 11 Pro. Video edited in Final Cut Pro. The Lewitt and Apex mic tests ran through my Focusrite Scarlett 4i4, gain about 25%. American (US) Fender Stratocaster review

This is a quick review of my 2009 US/American Fender Stratocaster. Played through a Helix. It came stock with Abby Ybarra signed custom wound Texas Special pickups and a white pickguard. The Texas Specials are awesome but unfortunately don't cut it for my particular requirements. In their place I put DiMarzios - Virtual Solo in the bridge, Area 67 in the middle and Area 58 in the neck. They are...

Here's a quick review of my Squier Jaguar CLASSIC VIBE that I recently bought. The guitar audio is direct in and mixed in with the video to give you a better sense of what it sounds like. Amp is the Fender Mustang GT100 with my custom patches. Strings - D'Addario XL110 3D - 10 gauge (10-46).

Quick review and demo of the Ernie Ball Slinky strings - 10's. I like the Paradigm, so I thought I'd give these a try and see why all those famous musicians use them. Tuning is E minor. Guitar is Yamaha RGX 112p. Pickups used - Bridge is DiMarzio DP153 "Fred", Neck is a no-name Humbucker "hot". Effects - custom patch on Zoom G3X.

My "quick" review of the Ernie Ball Paradigm strings. I was pleasantly surprised. A long-time D'Addario fan, I decided to give these a try and I recommend you give them a try. These are very similar to the Ernie Ball Titanium strings which I liked as well.

My fairly short review of the Ernie Ball Titanium strings. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. They feel good and sound more on the mellow side - at least on this guitar, which is usually quite bright. I'm a huge D'Addario lover, but I do recommend that you give these a go, especially if you normally use Ernie Ball or another vendor aside from D'Addario. Guitar: Yamaha Pacifica 112m Pi...

My simple review of the D'Addario Chromes. I absolutely love these strings for the fact that I finally have great and mellow (warm) tone from my guitar. Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt, RPS and D'Addario Balanced Tension review
These bad boys are so expensive. £70+ for a 5 string set in the UK, luckily Amazon are currently selling them at £33 so I've bought a set to try.
They've gone up quite a bit since this video, but I say they're still worth it since they can last a good 1-2 years depending on your specific use.
good recording for the voice, but not for guitar
Thanks for watching and the feedback! What do you mean for guitar exactly? It was direct in from the Helix LT. Cheers!
And then you finally did. Nice rig and nice playing. I like that neck pickup, especially.
Thanks! That pickup set was really great. The guitar is long gone though.
Dude....play.
Ha ha..I know. Ranting about gear too much
How about elixir nanoweb or maybe d'addario xs?
I don't think I ever tried the nanowebs, but I did try the D'Addario XS on my acoustic and didn't care for them. They felt a little weird but sounded okay - just not my preference. I use the Silk and Steel now on the acoustic. All in all I don't prefer coated strings on any guitar/bass because of the feel.
Nice board. In your config, to my ears the Notaklon had more bite and edge when it wasn’t stacked with your other drives. That might cut through in the mix in a more satisfying way. Might be why you liked playing it alone in your first gig.
Thanks for watching and the feedback! For what I play I probably won't ever stack it - I really like it on its own, but good to know that if I ever need a boost or to cut through, it definitely will do that. I found that my Tele is even brighter (Fender Noiseless), but if you roll back either the guitar tone or the Notaklon Treble control a little bit, it helps tame it down, but still allows it to cut through. I'll upload another demo soon with the Tele and another guitar with P90s for additional tone samples.
The +/- switch is actually called: Shamrock Mod Switch - Increases the overall gain +4dB for unmatched boost abilities with an increase in mid frequencies and an additional stage of hard-edge clipping.
Why 4 way switch with only 3 pickups??
There's only 2 pickups on a standard Telecaster and the one in the video I used. Standard Telecaster with 2 pickups and a 3 way switch: 1 - Bridge 2 - Bridge + Neck (parallel) 3 - Neck Standard Telecaster with 2 pickups and a 4 way switch: 1 - Bridge 2 - Bridge + Neck (parallel) 3 - Neck 4 - Bridge + Neck in Series The Series wiring gives it a fatter tone than the normal Parallel setting. I like to use it to get warmer/darker tones for leads or jazz-like tones. If you have a 3 pickup Telecaster such as the Telecaster Nashville model you'll get a 5 way switch which is just like a Stratocaster. However, it also includes a Push/Pull to blend in the Neck pickup in positions 1 and 2. Thus giving you a "7 way" wiring. So many options! Hope this helps.
I was dead set on buying a Player Series Fender Tele as my first Tele. Bad experience with Squier Affinity Strat in the late 90s... picked up a squier 50s vibe and fell in love, especially like the color and finish of the neck compared to the Player Series...and 1/2 the price too!
Squier has definitely been killing it the past number of years with the quality and options with the Classic Vibe and Vintage series. You can't beat them for the price! I really enjoyed this Tele, but because of the upgrades I personally wanted to do to it, I ended up getting the Player Plus - which is amazing. I still highly recommend this Squier - it really is fantastic.
Thanks for your review.
I think when you said that you engaged the strangle, then you actually disengaged it, because the sound became fuller and slightly darker.
You're right - down is Off, up is On. I started with it on, then off.
I use a noise gate pedal and it works great! P90’s and some 10’s are my favourite . I pick up my lp special before my more expensive guitars 90% of the time
Thanks for watching and the comment! Agreed on the noise gate. I ended up picking up the ISP Decimator a couple of months ago because my Tele is so noisy even with the Fender Noiseless pickups. It eliminated all my issues and same for the P90s - even though the DiMarzios are hum-canceling. Price is subjective to quality and inspiration. It's always what feels best and inspires you to play, and glad to hear you have your go-to guitar.
@@MrDanbishopjust another thing I forgot to mention sometimes the noise comes from cheaper cables, people always grab the cheapest cable they can find but there’s a reason why some are 50-60 bucks ,they are better sounding and more volume or brighter try them out at ur local shop
@@MrDanbishop yes thanks my brother keep rawk’n !!!!!!
@@EastEndBandit That's a good point. Shielding matters! It's worth the extra bit of money for quality cables.
I bought this exact guitar recently. My first Telecaster. The reviews were too good to warrant the extra $ for the fender. I can't put it down.
That's great news, congratulations! It's an amazing guitar indeed.
Why almost every guitar presenter uses many effects for the presentation and not a clean tone. Distortion and delay change the sound of the guitar and the original sound cannot be felt. Only the clean sound shows the true tone color of the guitar.
That is a very good point and I took the same advice from previous comments. If you check out my newer videos I did more with clean or no effects. The issue I also found was that with the Helix (since sold), no matter what guitar I used, it sounded the same, and I think the same thing happened here with the Jag into the Fender Mustang. Since moving to a pedal board a few weeks ago I can finally hear my guitar's true tones and will be uploading some new videos as well, very clearly demonstrating the clean tones from my Strat and Tele. I wish I still had the Jag to redo this video and properly demo it. Thanks for the comment!
You look like a Twenty one pilot's Singer elder version.
I have a guitar that is probably bright like this so it could be balanced out with a titanium set; it seems that Ernie Ball is one of the most versatile in material types and D'Addario probably has the most gauges, but I'm going with La Bella for my bass since they seem to be significantly cheaper for bass strings but not so bad that they're a no-namer. I also find that choosing strings of a material with similar hardness to the frets will minimize wear of both, so I'll be getting these for a guitar with stainless frets and my other one has nickel-plated steel frets which is why I give it more traditional strings; it seems however that flatter-wound or pure nickel strings dent regardless of fret material which means they're best with fretless acoustic instruments as they're also quieter.
Thanks for the comments! Great comparison of the two. I agree the EBs would be better for the mellow tone. I haven't heard of La Bella, but hopefully they work out well for you. I find the D'Addario Bass Chromes are mellow and are awesome for sliding bass lines. Though they're $30-$50 depending on country, they should last 1-2 years depending on your playing. You may also want to check out the D'Addario Pure Nickel line - they are mellow. I've used the XL120 set for many many years and have never had any fret issues - so far 🙂
@@MrDanbishop it’s probably because i play metal that pure nickel and flatter strings get ruined by the frets even if made of a strong material but in like a week i’ll be getting them from a store that just ordered one of each for me
Hello mate, i'm strugling with dimarzio's pickups names ^^ are these DP169 or another model? Thx to you and nice video!
Hey, thanks mate! Yes, these are both the DP169 model. For black it's DP169BK specifically. Also known as the "Virtual P-90".
Put a Mastery Bridge on it and you'll be real happy
I had looked into that before I sold the guitar and moved to a Strat. Definitely would have been a huge improvement!
@@MrDanbishop yup, got one on mine
i’m new to guitar still, whats so much better about the mastery bridge ?
@@dylans3109 strings don't slip out (infamous Jaguar trait), less buzzy, and intonation sets up great!
I used to own some Virtual P90s. Great pickups. In general I've always prefered DiMarzios.
I've always preferred DiMazrio as well - I've had a lot of them. The only Seymour Duncan I ever liked aside from these P90s is the JB.
This is a CV classic vibe not a vintage modified
Yes, it's in the description, just stated it wrong in audio.
Weird no shielding? Mine came fully shielded. If you want better electronics go with an Emerson kit and four way switch. I swapped my pickups out and bought a set of Twang Kings, locking Gotoh tuners . I’ve Moses several of these. They are really nice.
Yes, very odd but that seems to be the trend on the Indonesian ones - or at least most of them. The China ones were always shielded from what I found. I considered upgrading everything as well with some of the kits, etc. but in the end opted not to buy this one. Really nice guitar and all, but it just wasn't "the one". A few weeks back I ended up getting a Player Plus Telecaster. I'll be posting a video of that one soon.
@@MrDanbishop I just modded a Squire tele offset. Gave it my usual treatment; tuning machines, new bridge, high end electronics with a four way switch, and Fender “Drive” pickups. That one is beautiful translucent butterscotch. But it’s very noisy at certain settings . It’s properly grounded but the shielding is suspect. I’ll tear it down and install copper shielding. All my others are nice and quiet even the one with a P-90 in the neck.
@@michaelpond6386 Would love to see that guitar! For the noise, I suspect it's the single coil that's causing you grief. I have the Noiseless Fender teles in my Player Plus Tele and even they can have some noise in certain environments. The only ones that are truly noiseless are my DiMarzios in my strat (58, 67 and Virtual Solo). I would recommend finding a real hum-cancelling pickup in its place or adding in a noise-gate in your chain - that'll help for sure when you add distortion on those single coils.
@@MrDanbishop the problem was no shielding and a faulty ground in the neck pick up cover . Now it’s as quiet as my Thinline with noiseless pickups.
@@michaelpond6386 Nice one! A simple cheap fix, glad to hear.
said to be a bone nut. i'm getting one from guitar center tomorrow and have great excitement and some trepidation
According to Fender's website, it is indeed a bone nut. Congrats and I hope you enjoy it! Let us all know after you get it.
Is it good for stuff by placebo
Hi, I wasn't familiar with that band, but from a quick listen I think this would work just fine. It's quite a versatile guitar and can accommodate almost any genre/style.
@@MrDanbishop thanks man
the neck is ok. the bridge still sounds too much like a humbucker, imo. what do you reckon ? thanks very much for the video. very elucidative.
Sorry for the late reply. The neck is definitely that creamy P90 tone pretty much on any patch. I think mostly the patches I used here were pushing the bridge too hard and you're right, it sounds like a humbucker at times. Going lighter on distortion or drive definitely tames it down. You can always lower the pickup too depending on the specific guitar and strings (and your personal pick attack).
That was a very good recording. You captured the essence of both.
Thanks! Really digging the DiMarzios
I'm in love with this one 😍
It's an amazing guitar!
The player plus is double the price of the Squire Vibe 50 and I would argue the Player Plus is at best only slightly better. This is subjective we all want different things from our guitars and whilst the Player Plus does have a better quality neck it is still not rosewood and yes I do like rosewood. If I had bought the Player I would probably have also wanted to pay double the cost for upgrades so one costing 800 would fast be closer to 1500 so why not just buy the real deal? Cos the Squire was 400 and for the price, great value amazing value. The Player is nothing but a cheap Fender, and really all you are paying extra for is the brand name on the headstock, the guitar is still a poor copy of a true quality original American Telecaster. Change the cap to 47 and it sounds closer to the original than any player will do. I would never compare the squire to the player but I would compare it against a PROPER Telecaster from America which cost £1500. But the real issue I had was I could have bought a decent second hand American original for close to what the Player plus cost, slightly higher, so why buy the cheap copy and not buy the original even if its second hand? For that reason I bought the Squire, cheap and cheerful and I already have a wall full of really good expensive guitars and I promised myself I would not buy any more, a cheap Squire didn't count. Saying that I bought another Les Paul last months making it the 3th in my collection, I didn't have a Gibson LP Studio and it looked lovely next to its brothers the SG Standard and Custom, oops no its the 4th.
Great points all around, and that's the dilemma I found myself in. I could have opted for the Squire and spent a lot of money on upgrades, or wait and get a US one. The thing that made me decide in the end is my US Strat. It's a great reminder of the differences in quality and craftsmanship. Not to say Squire and MIM are bad - they're just not always as good. Another option I would recommend is the Fender Player Plus line. Some really cool options they offer for a good mid-point price range between the standard MIM and the US model. Definitely worth checking out. So for any of you that have limited funds but need or want a Tele, you can't go wrong with the Squire. It is great value and will do what you need it to. But if you want better quality, and options like a Rosewood neck, then you'll have to go for the US line. Most importantly, look for deals in your local areas or trusted sites like Reverb.com - though I do find some prices are a bit high. Don't forget about import fees and taxes 🙂
@@MrDanbishop There are specific reasons some would buy the Squire whilst others would only consider a Fender. Whilst the price difference is certainly a factor I would argue maybe for some its only one of many. The Squire Vibe 50 is not a cheap guitar, inexpensive compared to an authentic American Fender Performer certainly but neither could you call it budget its Squires Premium range, the best they do. In contrast the Fender Player is certainly a cheap guitar when compared to the full Fender range, you can pay 3 times plus for other Fender Performer Telecaster branded models. I have a range of premium guitars, RG570 a few Gibson LPs and so I understand the difference in necks, hardware and electrics and what they add to a specific guitars feel playability and tone. The Squire Vibe neck is finished in modern Gloss Polyurethane and maple fretboard some players love it some hate it, I prefer rosewood but that was not a deal breaker. The hardware is cheap to upgrade and the electrics solid and sound fine to me so again not a deal breaker. IF you want a smoother tone just drop in orange 47 caps, takes 30 minutes top and costs almost nothing. I did seriously consider the Fender Performer model but for £1500 it was almost 4 times the price of the Vibe and that to me is the true Fender with all the goodies included as standard. SO when you talk about a cheaper alternative whether its the Player or Squire there all cheaper variants and the Squire for the money is perfectly adequate for most of us the Player is for snobs who just have to have the Fender logo, at any cost but its certainly incomparable to the Performer models which are the absolute true bees knees.
@@uselessoldman7964 Yes indeed, in the Squier line, these are top end. My point was more of the "Telecaster" itself option amongst all of Fender's offerings in all brands and manufacturing plants. The Squier Classic Vibe is the lowest price model for a quality option, and by no means a cheaply made guitar. For a little bit of money as you mentioned, you can spice it up and make it sound even better. I also agree that the Squier Classic Vibe model and the Made in Mexico line are actually pretty close. I played both and I find it hard to justify the additional $500-$1000 difference in terms of quality, tone and playability. However, comparing the Squier to the American model, there is definitely a difference in every aspect, and for me, I can justify the investment. I'm spoiled from having a US Strat 🙂 However, it's still up to the individual player to pick whatever guitar inspires you to play. Always check out used options as well. I got my US Strat for an amazing price and I'm sure I'll find a US Tele at a good price as well with enough patience. Another consideration is to check out Stratosphere.com - they have real Fender parts and you can piece together your own concoction for potentially cheaper.
I'm a Les Paul man, but wanted tele tones. Tried a bunch of teles. Went with the CV. Had the best neck out of them all for me. Will definitely be swapping the pickups.
Looks really nice
It is indeed! Really solid guitar
“I kind of don’t want to wreck the vibe” 😆 so he gets a good VIBE from this guitar then? 🤣
🤣
My Squier classic vibe 50’s tele was made in China.
I think they switched factories in the past couple of years and I don't know if one is necessarily better than the other. From all the reviews I've seen, the only big differences are that the China ones have shielded cavities and brass saddles.
My 2010 also was made in China. Beautiful instrument, cost me $350.00 and rivals any version I've tried including American made. I tried this guitar in the store and compared it to American and Mexican and other cheaper Squiers and had to buy it. Bridge had brass saddles but I switched it out for a fishman piezo with a preamp. I use this guitar for regular gigging.
Way to many effects to hear the real tone of the guitar :(
But what does the "real tone" mean? To me, the real tone of the guitar is subjective and dependant on what you play through. If I played it through a Fender Deluxe Reverb and you play it through a Marshall, it's going to sound very different. I will take note for future demos to play it through various amp models, with and without effects. That would be quite interesting! For this quick one-off demo of the rental guitar, I ran it through my current setup - which is an AC30 with reverb and delay on the clean. For the distortion I was pushing it hard to see if it would hold up - and it actually did. Not bad for single-coils on such an inexpensive guitar! So I would say overall, this guitar will hold up on any setup. It sounded good on everything I ran it through. I wish I had more time with it to do another review based on yours and others feedback. Thanks!
I hate it when they cover up the guitar with effects!
I just ordered a 50s and a 60s classic Vibe. I have noticed many reviews show the cavity having shielding paint but think these are paid reviews and probably did it themselves
From everything I've seen, it appears the ones made in China do have shielding while the Indonesia ones do not, at least on the 50s model. Worst case shielding paint is about $15-$20.
Too over the top on effects.Guitar should be based on it's own merits dry. This could be any guitar.
Next time sure. This was a rental and quick video I did for the very short time I had it, mostly seeing how it stood up to the effects I do use, such as with the heavy distortion -> can the pickups actually sound decent or weak and thin. Surprising results.
This is not the Custom model. CV Custom is sunburst with white binding & rosewood board + Alnico5 pickups vs Alnico 3 in the one in this demo.
I said custom but meant Classic in the intro - the title is correct.
Your video is very nice. If I was you I would employ P r o m o s m!!!
Good afternoon! Can you write, please, what is your string height? I bought the same instrument, and strings ringing very strongly about frets.
Hi, some fret buzz is okay...sometimes. I keep my action pretty low on all my guitars. This one unfortunately was a rental so I don't recall the exact height off hand, but I generally hit around 3mm at that 12th fret. But if you follow the guides and capo the first fret, hold down on the 17th fret then I hit about .25mm. Still capo'd but without pressing down on the 17th it's 2.5mm. Basically it's just enough room to barely put a piece of paper in between. The other important thing to keep in mind is that the radius of that neck is 9.5", which means each the 4 strings in between the E strings must be slightly higher as you go around so they don't fret out. Like this: guitar.com/guides/diy-workshop/how-to-set-string-radius/ Also check out these guides for full instructions: Bandforge: ruclips.net/video/5xeOa66XQGU/видео.html Paul David: ruclips.net/video/aAyDdbNldig/видео.html Let me know if these help.
@@MrDanbishop Thank you very much!
I played on two in the shop and one had a neck that was too straight, causing fret buzz. The other one had a perfect amount of neck relief and no buzz, so I purchased that one. Check the neck relief on the neck to ensure that the neck isn't too straight.
I had to take mine to a setup clinic for the same reasons. the neck is slightly twisted and there is a distinct heel bump at the body, an d the have a sull service and fret work done to get the action down to an acceptable height and get rid of the buzzzzz
@@marcelchaloupka That's unfortunate to hear. It may have something to do with where you bought it. I know my local store always checks and sets up their guitars, but not all stores do that.
With all the heavy effects that you are using (delay etc.) it is impossible to hear THE guitar. Try clean tones?
Yes, next time for sure. I had only had the guitar rented for a short period so I just quickly went threw a few examples of my typical tones. The "clean" examples are using a Vox AC 30 patch on the Helix, with some delay and reverb, but yes it does skew the actual tones a bit. I also wanted to show that it performed pretty good on the heavier tones as well - quite surprising actually. I had previously tried it on some other simple amp patches and I can say that it does have the Tele twang and chime from the 50's era. They did a great job on this model. But if you hate hum as much as I do, you'll want to replace the pickups anyway.
there are a million review of this guitar, what if someone wants to hear the guitar with effects as it is played so often... if you want clean review do it yourself

I like your instructional video and the tone coming from your amplifier. Of the variety of finishes available in these particular guitars, ts the burst like yours that tops them all for appearance. As it happens I scored a 2019 model recently in September 2021, used from a local music store. I'm delighted with it. I'm a closet player, hours every day retired. Obsessed with guitars. What a blessing it is to own my own Squier Classic Vibe 70's Jaguar!!! Life is good.
Thank you very much! I agree, that burst is fantastic and I'm glad to hear you managed to snag one!
I have a Squire 70s Classic Vibe Jaguar in surf green and I really enjoy playing it. Squire quality just keeps on getting better and they used to have a reputation as junk guitars. Not the case anymore, you really get your moneys worth with these.
Totally agree, Squire has come a long way. Glad you're enjoying your Jag!
You keep saying "engage the strangle", but then you turn it OFF. UP is ON, DOWN is OFF - just like most any other switch. BTW, it is a bass reduction switch.
According to Fender themselves, it is called the "mid-tone cut", which as they state "acts like a strangle switch". Up is OUT (off), down is CUT (on). www.fender.com/articles/tech-talk/jaguar-controls-past-and-present-what-you-need-to-know
@@MrDanbishop the sound gets fuller, when you say that you engage it. But that would have to be the other way around. The sound should get thinner and appear brighter when engaged.
@@nym053 Yes, I had it backwards
I wonder if you reversed the wires on one of the pickups, would that be enough to get them out of phase to cancel out the hum when both pickups are turned on? Maybe it’s not that simple, but it seems like they should’ve come with that by default. It’s got to be the best looking guitar today though, so I gotta get one.
I've since sold this guitar (went to a Strat) so I can't say for certain, but if I do recall correctly, there was no hum. However no guitar is perfect so it's possible I did have some in this particular room. You'll probably find the same thing as well, depending on rooms. If I were you I would test thoroughly before making any modifications, maybe even adding subtle noise gate in your effects chain. I know you'll love this guitar, enjoy! Just make sure you buy either a US Fender Jag or a "Made in Indonesia" Squier version for the best build quality. This one in the video was absolutely amazing build quality! I do miss mine...but that Strat makes me forget :)
Шикарная гитара. Хороший обзор. Спасибо.

Just put these on my bb435. Sounds great
That's awesome!
Mine needed a neck shim right away after shipping. Also the bridge + vibrato system worked horribly with 9s strings. I put on 11s and the guitar started to live. I also own a Yamaha pacifica and tbh Yamaha's factory setup was so much better... But nevertheless, the Squire is lovely, only horribly setup in the factory.
That's unfortunate to hear about the setup but glad you like it! I bought mine from a local retailer that inspects all guitars before they put them on display, so there is that advantage of buying local, if it is possible to do so. Yamahas are amazing, I highly recommend them as well. I still have my RGX-420s and RGX-211m - both solid reliable guitars.
@@MrDanbishop Thanks for the reply. I'm also delighted with yamahas. The pacifica was of similar price to the Squier Jag. I can recommend Yamaha guitars anytime. Played them in many stores as well and they were always neat.

Hello good Sir! I'm thinking of buying this guitar from the german music-store Thomann. (I'm from germany) SInce you seem to have a good knowing of guitarplaying and different styles...I've got a question for you. So, i'm a great fan of stoner and psychedelic rock and I'm playing for almost 10 years (doesnt mean i'm any good, haha :D). So i would like to play this guitar in DROP C tuning with a string gauge of 11 to 54 (kind of that range of stinggauge). Do you think this will work with a still great action (string height) or do you think i have to adjust it alot? Im currently playing a fender telecaster with 11-56 strings in drop c tuning through a 1974 sunn o beta lead amp in a 4x12" cab. i've got a great bluesy, deep but still clear and crunch/heavy crunchy tone. do you think the guitar will fit me and my style? I'm looking forward to get myself the "Fender Squire CV 70s Jaguar" first and when i like it, i'll get the same model, but from fender instead of squire. I know that this is a thought qustion but since i watched your other videos I think you might have some knowledge to give to a younger guitarloving person =) Oh and BTW. I saw that you're testing some strings in your other videos. PLEASE try the Nanocoated Strings from ELIXIR(!) Maybe the 10-46. Those are my "Goldstandard" of Strings since they are awesome in both sound and durabiltiy. also they're playing very good. They also got sets for lower tunings like Drop D, Drop C and below. My "go-to"-Set is 11-54 for Drop C or C-Standard. I think you'll like them. :) Sorry for wall of text. Have a nice day sir and rock on! cheers :)
Hello! Thank you for the reply :) You will not be disappointed with the Fender version of this guitar, as there are so many tones you can get out if it in many genres of music. However, since it is more of a single-coil sounding pickup in the bridge, I am not sure it would suit heavier types of music in drop tuning. I honestly never tried, so I can’t say for certain. There is a humbucker + single coil version of this though, so I would recommend checking that out instead. Like any other guitar, it would take some time to get the balance of the neck tension right with different gauge strings. No problem there, the bridge is quite easily adjustable for action. I would test this out myself with heavier/drop tuning but I recently sold my Jaguar and bought an American Strat. As much as I love the Jaguar, I needed the Strat specifically. I’ll post some reviews on it soon. I have some new pickups on the way and will do an A/B comparison. As for the Elixir’s, I believe I already tried them once a couple of years back, but I didn’t record it. I don’t think I liked them if memory serves me correctly. They felt weird and not enjoyable to play. But maybe I will grab another set and try them on my Yamaha with the DiMarzio Evolution in the bridge with some drop tuning. It will be fun! If you like long-lasting strings, you really can’t go wrong with the D’Addario NYXL line. Thanks, and rock on!
Probably you will want to go .012 _.056 to get good tension. The jag is 24 inch scale telecasters are 25.5. Stringjoy has an excellent tension calculator. You want to match the tension you like on 25.5 scale. Tension is the measure not string size.
@@oldgoattheantichrist3468 Thank you good sir!
Great video, would this be a good guitar for a beginner?
Hi, thanks! Yes, it could be good for a beginner but probably better suited for intermediate or advanced. The 2 possible drawbacks are: 1) It's size. It's odd-shaped and slightly larger than a strat, so depending on your height, it could be big and awkward. 2) The amount of switches and pickup combinations could be a real pain for someone starting out. Even for a seasoned player it took some getting used to! My recommendation would be to try one out in a music store to be 100% sure that you're comfortable with it physically, and can figure out the switches. The advantages though: 1) Lots of pickup and tone configuration options 2) Good for practically any genre 3) It's fun to play
