A 572XP and my FF-13 Chinese mini dealing with a crispy poplar in the back yard.
Sunday fun day!
This semi dead poplar in the green belt behind my house has been bugging me for a couple years now so why not make a long boring video of cutting it down and cleaning it up on a Sunday afternoon?
The tree had a bit of a back lean to it and all it’s limbs were on the left side, you can tell as I’m doing the back cut I’m just waiting for it to set back onto my bar but luckily the stars aligned and my face cut was generous enough to keep the centre of mass forward ever so slightly of the hinge….. now I’m off to buy a lottery ticket.

    The controls are not soft enough. They aren't smooth. They are very abrupt, and it takes a while to adjust to them, especially because the machines are small and bounce around pretty violently.A homeowner can't beat the value though. I've seen these for $4,000 -$6500 US dollars.

    My first logging job was a couple hours north of Prince George and they used Cat 528 machines. The timber was fairly big, averaging 24” at the butt and the odd one being 4 ft. I never skidded but seeing them flying down a hill at top speed to stay ahead of the drag was a sight to behold. Then when they reached flat ground they could barely pull the drag to the landing. Those were good times.

    I've got a similar setup, though I don't use it as much as I thought I would. My first time playing with it, I got ambitious and hiked a few miles up the mountain dragging a pulk. Fast fold stoves I think are the way to go. . My original stove, was the type you have to assemble. I think it's one reason I don't use my hot tent as often as I thought I would. It looks remarkably similar in design to your Danchel fast folder, but isn't. Probably made in the same factory in china, and rebranded under different names. I think that cot assembly would piss me off, but it beats sleeping on the snow. I had a few feet of snow under my back. With a foam pad doubled up with an air mat, and was always slightly cool at the back. You should see this weird tent I got to for this coming fall deer hunt with the wife. OneTigris Cozshack I think it's called. It's meant as a hammock hot tent, but you can use it free standing with poles. Recently got a new fast folder Ti stove too. Have to burn it in yet. Stove's in general are amazingly efficient with wood. The amount of wood you burn for an hours worth of campfire could last you several hours if not most of the night in a stove.

    • @PuskwaskaOutdoors
      @PuskwaskaOutdoors 2 месяца назад

      @@MiddleOutdoorsman The Danchel stove has been pretty solid and reasonably easy to setup so far but I’ve really only used it a handful of times, it’s not the stove but rather the tent that I don’t care for…. The amount of condensation inside of a nylon hot tent drives me crazy, I guess once you’ve grown accustomed to a GOOD canvas tent it’s hard to go in another direction… I was actually looking at various hammock hot tents last fall but ended up asking Santa for the OneTigris North Gaze and the canvas version of it was under the tree Christmas morning, haven’t had a chance to use it yet but I may take it hunting as a field test for winter camping, I still like the idea of a hammock hot tent tho, tons of room for 2 people but reasonably light weight and you get a long straight ridge line the length of the tent to dry gear on and you can walk around inside of it…. You can’t do that in a teepee tent unless it’s HUGE. I think something that gets ignored by a lot of people talking about hot tents or looking to buy a hot tent is the other environmental consideration, your buying a hot tent to stay warm in, days get shorter in the seasons your going to use it in, do you really want to be stuck in a tiny tent you can’t stand up in feeding a tiny wood stove every hour or two thru some long dark nights? I’ve done it enough to know I don’t really enjoy it, my “big” Snowtrekker (9.5’x11’) with my “big” Knico Alaskan stove on the other hand is a canvas cabin I can live in for a week or more and I actually miss it when I get back home… As for a cot? Just buy one, the frustration is real but worth it, being off the ground with a bit of warmer air under you takes the chill off, I use a closed cell foam pad on the cot and I sleep like a baby even if the fire dies…. When my missus comes out with me she has the same sleeping kit as I do and she reminds me when the stove stops glowing cherry red 🤣
