Great stuff as usual!
small thing that seems to happen a lot with some live-camera recordings, it might be hard to pick up with certain sound devices so be sure to check your video-editing program; this horribly loud high pitched shrieking noise that really rings the ears. audible during the title card at ~10:19, genuinely causes pain and discomfort. some old summoning salt videos have this as well.
buh
Your knowledge about the game is very impressive and seeing your love for the game is very entertaining. Great stuff!
I like this concept for a channel. I would recommend making some graphics when explaining the rating system and such to better hook people.
Is this the same COOLKID that holds the WR in Mario Bros 2? Or two different runners with the same name?
Pretty sure its the same one
I realize it's like the game rock paper scissor: rock beat scissor, scissor cut electricity, ...
Always love your videos
Love it!
Will you be making a video on Ys 3 in the future?
That ones being slowly buried on my todo list, but definitely on the radar. I want to make a TAS of the NES/FDS version before doing the video, since that one has some really cool tech.
That guy can button mash! Wow! That's cool how he's got what looks like the 6 button mega drive controller on the SMS
I'm surprised you didn't mention the "screen crunch" and how difficult it is to see what's in front of you. It was really bad on the game gear and a lot of times you have to make blind "leaps of faith". That was my main complaint about this game
Good point! Another reason why the Master System is great. Although the screen crunch helps in this one a little bit to stop you bouncing back really far from bosses
the cards you used remind me of the tickets they use in air traffic control towers ahah
I absolutely love this channel. I thought the format for this one was very interesting as there is no TAS for this game at all instead you went with 100% instead which was a very interesting Idea. Another format you can do is compare something with Individual Level Speedruns if there is no TAS for the game or different Characters or Modes. I'm a current top runner for TMNT Shredder's Revenge and have a Speedrun Guide for it if you wanna check it out for yourself to learn more about that game. I look forward to more Speedrun Reviews!!!
Thanks! I'm not familiar with that game but the mechanics look pretty satisfying. I'll put it on my list to check out
@@speedrunnerreviews Yea its such a great game I hope you check it out in the future!!!
I haven’t found a channel with as much of a passion for speedrunning as this one. Keep it up!
I know, it's great!
alright finally finished it!!! yes, those hermit crabs are the worst!!! didn't know about freezing the enemies, and didn't fiund the water spell too, I need to try that. Also I got some key drop quite a few time from the red magicians
Thats wild. I dont remember ever getting that key drop. Maybe Im just remembering wrong or something
didn't know you can ride the car! in fact I didn't it was a car ahah. it helps a lot to see the life, I should practice with the ram watch. and same, I should submit a run a some point
Woohoo,straight 500 subs! Congrats!
Another great video! I also love your videos on The8BitBeast chnnel. Great stuff
Had this on while making dinner. Nice to listen to! Been learning a lot about the Master System lately via Jeremy Parish's Segaiden series, too.
both first and second place are playing on 60 frames per second. They just categorized it incorrectly all Top runs are done on ntsc
Indeed. All of us that selected "Europe" it's because we used the European ROM but played at 60FPS/NTSC. It's a little confusing we never know what to choose in that case and so many SMS games weren't released in the US.
Yeah, I just forgot to change the region on my submission. I ran the game in 60fps.
Oh interesting. Makes me wonder how fast pal actually is then
@@speedrunnerreviews If you play on a European console it'll probably be 1/6th slower.
@@MasterSystemMarceau It's possible if the lag is horrendous, that pal could be faster - for Lemmings for example, the in-game timer is affected disproportionately by it, because the game has so much to do each animation cycle. For PAL the igt is better, but in that case it's still faster to run NTSC for RTA.
I love your reviews
Can you do a video on the same game but sega mega drive? :D
Interesting I'll have to look and see what that version is like
@@speedrunnerreviews If you need any extra info on tech I'd be glad to share everything, there's some pretty cool tech.
Having had speed ran this game, it was among the most fun retro games for me to attempt to master.
you didn't get muted for the copyrighted moon music? nice ahah so cool to see a runner excited like that
Yeah, its interesting because that music has triggered it when I've uploaded other vids with it in. I guess maybe it was mixed quietly enough to avoid it? The reaction at the end is so good. You can see how much effort he's put in
Very cool video! Thanks for featuring my run! I’m actually starting a push for a 15 minute barrier time (started today). Would love you to drop by my twitch sometime. Cheers! P.S. Funny fact about my run: the time spent on streets is less then the time from the TAS.
Oh nice. Gl on the grind! I thought your streets seemed shorter. Glad to see it confirmed. I wonder how much room there'd be on a new tas
@@speedrunnerreviewsit would probably need a ROM hack that is able to show a layout of the seed generated. Can’t imagine how the RNG truly works in this wonder lol
Always love your videos
Looks like a cool game, never heard of it
I love these type of videos, I hope to one day see one for TMNT Shredder's Revenge!!!
started to watch I now I want to try the game. sorry I will watch the rest later after going through the game ahah
Nice! Defs a good one to try out :D
Never seen this game before, nice video!
We're so back!
Great Video!
I loved this game
If you play on the Wonderboy Anniversary Collection, you can pause and look at maps for all games. Really helps with the final stage on this one.
Actually managed to finish both the SMS version and the Arcade version when I was younger (pretty sure I used 2-3 credits on the arcade). The arcade version is absolutely brutal compared to the Master System one, but you can also sometimes get super good gold drops with joystick waggling when jumping.
Nice, I was wondering why they had a waggling category for arcade
during several boss fights in the TAS, all hearts are black (like from 21:19 to 21:30), shouldn't he die?
I think there's like a 0.5 health displaying as 0 thing goig on, but that's just from memory
Nice video!
Great video! Your channels are among youtube's best hidden gems!
Sounds like all camels needs a reroute now that we have bitclips. Awesome video, 8bit!
I love childhood urban legends about video games. loved the snake idea. maybe someone will turn it into a romhack? 😄
42:40 Snacker when Banjo is playing a liiittle too well
Haha love it
Yes!!! I'm so excited to watch this!
Awesome video, great to see some of the excellent Xbox runs alongside the highly competitive N64 runs being showcased here. Any% is one of those runs that requires a deep understanding of the glitches and mechanics of the game so that's why a lot of people stick to 100%. 100% is extremely easy to get into as the route is basically: Enter a level and 100% it, then death warp, leave, and go to the next one. This game isn't designed for the player to beat it in an Any% fashion like other games, so people gravitate towards a more familar approach to running the game which is 100%. This is why you see a lot more Any% activity in Banjo-Tooie where the goal casually is to beat it with at least 70 jiggies and minimal notes. I hope people try out Any% more in Banjo-Kazooie and maybe switch in between platforms to experience this great speedgame as a whole.
Cheers TSR! I wouldnt pass up the opportunity to show off the awesome xbox stuff. Its been very fun seeing you break it even more. I reckon that any% preference stuff is definitely a factor for sure. Fascinating to see the divide between bk and bt
speaking of level select, there are actually many SMS games that have it! I worked on some rom hack to enable it on start and so far I found a level select code or ROM cheat
Your video made me try this game! It's a fun one. I also managed to find a glitch in it , dunno if known / useful but worth sharing!
Ooh nice! What's the glitch?
@@speedrunnerreviews I've made a public video about it.
Had this on while doing the dishes. Especially liked the TAS breakdown part! Just goes to show how much effort and maths goes into optimizing even the simplest of games.
I love how you put the Grunty fight music behind the witches
15:18 Wall Boosting is possible in the chase and river levels, used during downtime when not getting boxes, you hold diagonal into the wall and you move a lot faster, watch Crash Dash and Hang Eight in a run if you want examples :) Great video btw :D
WOAH! Great comprehensive video.
