Portent of Flame - Symphony of Heaven - live solo with Jake Jensen
Hey folks! Here’s footage of one my solo’s with Symphony of Heaven last night! It was my first show with them, and such a great time. Solo is a little rough around the edges, but had a blast playing.
Will be back with more regular videos again soon, but in the meantime enjoy the solo, and check out Symphony of Heaven if you haven’t already!

This is a song I've wanted to do a version of for quite awhile, but just hadn't gotten around to it until now. I think this song has such a cool melody, and it worked pretty well for this style of metal (in my opinion). Hope you enjoy it! (Also, apologizes for the inconsistency in the color of the video clips, there were slight differences in the lighting that seemed to bother my editing softwa...

Ozzy - No More Tears - Guitar Solo Cover

While Zakk might be my least favorite of Ozzy's guitarists, he still had some pretty sick solos in the earlier days with Ozzy, and this one has always been one of my favorites. I was just teaching this one to a student, so I decided to go ahead and cover it myself too! Hope you enjoy it 🤘🏻 JJmetal97 Instagram @jakejensenguitar

Finally back with a new video! This one's pretty special to me for a couple reasons. First, I've been absolutely obsessed with this solo since I first heard it when I was about 16. Marty Friedman has been one of my absolute favorite guitarists since that age, and its hard to find a better example of what makes him such an awesome guitarist. Second, last month I turned 24 and that marks over a d...

Back with another guitar demo! This guitar is a limited run recreation of the guitar Steve Vai played in the movie Crossroads from the 80's. Such a cool guitar and so much fun to play! To show you guys how it sounds, I gave the solo from Mr Crowley a shot. I'm no Randy Rhoads, but its still a fun one to jam on. Hope ya like it! JJmetal97 Instagram @jakejensenguitar

Subbed. Greetings from Wales :)
Thank you for an excellent video. The principles you explain so well are useful for any guitarist looking for cleaner solos. Much appreciated!
To much talking less playing
thx for very deep explanation
Very nice and straight to the point. Definitely the info people need rather than yet another pointless etude with little to no explanation
It’s like you knew I was here for Jason Becker.
👍👍👍👍👍
That's our boy right there😎🤘
You know it 🤘🏻
Theres not enough emphasis put on developing your hand motor memory when practicing phrases and scale exercises. Youre hands must first be able to play something slowly and in sych first until it becomes programed into your muscle memory so that as you increase your speed your synchronization will still hold together just like learning to walk, then speed walk and then run without tripping!!
So two things here: 1) I addressed that very issue right at the start (around 55 seconds into the video). So I did state that the rest of the things here wouldn’t be helpful if you haven’t already thoroughly learned what it is you’re playing. 2) The place I disagree with you is the thought that if you can play it slow, you can just linearly speed it up and it’ll stay perfectly in sync. The walk to run analogy is actually perfect because it demonstrates this exact thing. The way in which you walk and run are two totally different movements. You don’t see competitive runners just walking super fast, they are different things. In that same way, constantly pushing the tempo up gradually thinking that it’ll always just stay in sync as you push it faster, doesn’t really work. At some point you do actually have to address the speed as it’s own issue. You do this by taking short phrases/smaller groupings of notes and pushing them up to much higher speeds than you can sustain for longer periods of time. This gets you used to the feeling of actually playing fast. Both sides of the coin are necessary, not just one or the other. Again, you don’t see sprinters just doing lots of power walking and then suddenly they are great at running.
super underrated video
Great video, nice guitar too!
Love the content. You are going to be my teacher after fixing my guitar.
Love a Les Paul...

Ive been struggling with my hand synchronization lately, and its pretty frustrating. I like your approach to solving that problem, and I'm going to try it. That was a very helpful lesson, thank you!
I’m glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching!
Really good job bros!
I own a KV2 in Eerie Dess Swirl but I have to admit this graphic looks so much better on a KE2. Love the guitar!
Haha, I do think it looks pretty awesome on the Kelly’s. I did feel tho, that the finish on the guitar was so thick it just seemed to kill the guitar’s sound. Tried several different pickup sets in that guitar and it just always sounded muffled, so I no longer have it. Do you feel that way about your KV? maybe I just had bad luck lol
@JakeJensenGuitar I've owned a Kelly before and I noticed the same thing. I like the sound of the King V shape because it's so much lighter (less mass) than the Kelly. I think you might like the sound of a King V better.
One of the most useful RUclips lessons I've ever seen. Thank you very much sir.
So glad you enjoyed it! I’m definitely planning on doing more lessons soon, and I do always teach private lessons as well!
Bro you are amazing can you make a tutorial how to play this song
Thank you! And I am planning on doing so here soon! Currently relearning it for my band to cover, so I’ll be doing a lesson video pretty soon! Make sure to subscribe (if you haven’t already) so you don’t miss it!
I love covers with actual backing tracks (not where the original solo interferes). You did great. Thank you for uploading.
I really appreciate that! Making the backing tracks definitely takes more time and effort, but I feel that it’s much better than playing over the song itself. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Very helpful lesson. I like that you go in depth on the technique of sweeping, very informative
I’m glad you found it helpful! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the tips! I've never tried the thumb muting thing. I'll try it ASAP!
I’m glad you found the tips useful! The thumb muting can be really tricky at first, but it’s such an effective way of keeping things clean
I just got the same guitar, did you feel like the pickup was a good upgrade? did you keep the stock neck pickup?
I've got the same guitar and think the full shred is too bright in an also bright guitar. You can put filister screws in the full shred to make it more a custom 5. Didn't like the a2 pro for cleans. Now have this set and the cleans are brilliant while they give the charvel (on gain) a chunky body. Best bridge pickup for me in this particular guitar is the tone zone - give it a try.
@@Dennisbluschke I ended up putting a paf pro in the neck and a satchur8 in the bridge. Guitar sounds much much better, although I do think I could've gone with an even darker pup like the tone zone in the bridge, and maybe something more aggressive in the neck. But it's kind of a guessing game sometimes. Loving the guitar.
I kept the stock neck pickup, but in all honesty I don’t use the neck pickup a ton so I’m not super picky about that. I’m glad you found a setup that works for you though!
Kirk is playing the same pentatonic scale since he was born. He’s the worst! 🙃
Have you ever thought why Steve Vai or Paul Gilbert never in their lives say mean negative comments like this
@@marcinmcula99 maybe they haven’t, but how do you know they don’t think it? Kirk isn’t on the same level as them. The truth is he’s highly overrated, just like Slash. 🤮
@@mercury4metal I don't think anyone thinks Kirk or Slash are on the same level of technicality as Vai or Gilbert. Slash plays a damn tasty bluesy rock solo and Paul plays a wonderful shred solo. Good technique is crucial but if that's all you think about then your music won't be any good
Maybe. But people don't seem to realize he's also playing the same downpicked riffs as Hatfield.
I don't quite understood how do you mute with the thumb and not making any scratch noises. Although, this is very helpful and detailed video that points to many important common issues and shows how to resolve them and develop the sweep technique.
It is something that takes some getting used to, and isn’t the easiest in the beginning, but once you have it down it is a huge help in keeping things clean. But if you still find that you’re having trouble with it, I do offer private lessons, so feel free to check out my website for info on that if you’d like more help
@@JakeJensenGuitar Thanks, bro.
Thank you so FREAKING MUCH.... have never gotten sweep picking but only knew the palm muting method which caused problems when I would try speeding up to actual speed. Have never tried the thumb method as of yet but the concept is sound, can't for the results. Thanks again man you rock.🤘
Whats with the Kirk hate? Yea he's done in now but he was pretty sic back in the day.
I thought his playing was pretty decent on Master of Puppets and And Justice For All, but listening to his faster playing on the first two albums, it just sounds sloppy. That being said, everyone has different preferences, and it was just a joke. Hope you still found the lesson helpful
Why is it that anytime someone disagrees with, or doesn't like something, it's automatically reffered to as hate? I'm really tired of it.
Amp settings for this tone
I’m not sure what exact settings I had on it for this video. Lots of mids, volume at less than 2 (probably just over one, it was insanely loud), boost on. That’s about all I remember for it
@@JakeJensenGuitar it’s really hard getting a Guns N’ Roses tone out the runt 50
Wow to se mi líbí

I hate reversed headstocks man
Thanks for letting me know. I happen to love them. Thankfully we each get to chose what guitar(s) we play for ourselves 👍🏻

Tie your hair back, you won't need to constantly shake it out of your eyes then...
Why would you tame that magnificent mane?
I pull it back or wear a hat when I feel like doing so. But on that day I felt like keeping my hair down, because why have it if it’s always going to be pulled back? So sorry to hear that it was such an issue for you tho. Have a good one
you had me at Altitudes....lol. So clean, nice playing! hearing it isolated like that has made me want to learn that bit, having previously thought it was way beyond my paying level. video perhaps? If you can get a lapel mic that would help as the vocal audio is quite low compared to the guitar/room mic. cheers!
Thanks man! It can definitely be tricky, but I’d say it’s doable as a whole. And if nothing else, just trying to work your way through it could make you a better player, even if it’s not up to speed. And I was thinking the same thing about the mic actually, definitely going to look into one!
Sounds like your in Eb tuning...
I am… is that a problem for some reason?
@@JakeJensenGuitar nope, just an observation... most people say something about it beforehand, that's all!
Been feeling my sweeps were getting sloppy after picking guitar back up and just not knowing what im missing hopefully the finger muting technique helps I have one on an original I do a 3 string sweep with alot of hammer on and pull offs that I just can't get crisp again
I hope that it helps! And just make sure that you’re taking things slow enough at first to build the proper habits back up. If you still feel like you’re stuck and need some more help check out my website for info on private lessons!
saw this and thought it was an old vids, saw the recent comments and was surprised about the upload date, I needed this video a LOT, thank you!
I’m glad that you found it helpful!

Thank you! I really appreciate it 🤘🏻
you look like Tom Cruise in Last Samurai
I love Jason too..
That guitar is beautiful 😍
Ikr? Jacksons are my absolute favorite 🤘🏻
I used to play it. well played my friend
I like that you didn't start with smaller 3 string sweeps. I feel the muting and hand sync movement required to do 3 strings cleanly is far less then moving over 5 + strings . Diving into a full pattern is most beneficial for solid progression .. I guess I'm odd because I mute using the palm of my pick hand going down but my fret hand palm mutes going back up , I never finger muted LOL.. Great tutorial with clear descriptions and sound advice .
I completely agree, and if nothing else you just have less of a chance to get comfortable with the motion in one direction with the 3 string sweeps, because you’re going to be changing direction so often. I’m glad you enjoyed the lesson!
What model is that? Haven't seen a 24 Rhoads with that finish and surface mount
It’s a Jackson Pro Series RR24Q in Winterstorm finish. Recently I’ve only seen them selling this in purple, so I’m not sure if they’re still doing the white finish or not
Sick guitar!! Excellent lesson!
I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson! And thank you, I love this guitar 🤘🏻
