Arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport? Cheap Hotel 10 MINUTES by Shuttle! [Nov. 2024 Review]
I've stayed in loads of hotels in an around Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok. But the Lilac Relax Residence is the cheapest so far. It was recommended by viewers of my previous videos. So I had to give it a chance!
I was charged 1,100 THB Baht (about 32 US Dollars) for a double room in November 2024. This is not a sponsored video, and I paid for it myself. Even though I arrived after midnight, they sent a shuttle to pick me up quickly, and took me to the hotel in just 10 minutes. But was the hotel worth what I paid?

Nimman is probably the most fashionable areas of Chiang Mai. It's famous for it's trendy restaurants, upscale malls and markets, and some of the best coffee shops in the area. It's also close enough to the Old Town, didn't get affected by the recent flooding, and is the perfect base to explore the nearby mountains. And now is the best time to go, as the cooler weather arrives, but there's plent...

It's perfect for if you have a few hours to kill during a layover. And it saves having to wake up in the middle of the night to get to the airport for an early morning flight. An airport hotel is also convenient when hit by an unexpected delay, or if you ...

After living in Thailand for over 15 years, and visiting numerous times, I've found the 4 biggest dangers you need to be aware of (and also how to avoid them!). Many videos will tell you about "jetski scams" and so-called "taxi mafia", but here I take a different approach. I examine how the natural elements pose a risk, and what practical steps you can take to reduce the possibility of running ...

Bangkok Real Review SQ BOUTIQUE HOTEL SOI 19 SUKHUMVIT
Sinsuvarn Airport Suits. Same area, maybe a tad closer to airport, same price with transfer and I think a lot better. Good clean rooms. Has a nice pool and a restaurant with good food and great value. Also short walk to food markets and street food. Been staying at this one for years now. It’s well worth a try. Cheers
That does sound good. Thanks for the heads up. I'll put it on my ever growing list and give it a try! Cheers, Stephen!
Thanks for this great tip ! Just changed my plans for next week and booked this Lilac as point of arrival after BKK at night :-)
That sounds like perfect timing! I'm sure you'll have a great trip 👍
Thanks BC. Hotel shuttle is a great idea...popular in the USA , yet have never had a shuttle at Bangkok Airport to a hotel. 😊🇹🇭👍
Cheers, Ric. Time to give it a go, perhaps? Obviously a lot cheaper than staying at the airport and only slightly less convenient. Always good to save a few baht for other things! 👍 😃
Around Suvarnabhumi Airport you can find budget hotels as cheap as 300-400thb but maybe fan only. 🛏🚽 Eastin Thana City Golf Resort Bangkok is 1200 incl. Breakfast buffet Sauna & Steam rooms +huge pool + ⛳ course 😙 (Taxi 17min ฿150) RESORT has free shuttle to MEGA BANGNA 🛍💳 I live in Bangkok and stay at many hotels around the city especially NEW when they first open.
Thanks, Lindsay, for the useful information. I probably prefer a bit of aircon, but those prices sound great. I'll note down the names for future visits.
Hi balloon chaser does the shuttle bus take you back to the airport ?
Hi Ian. Yes, the shuttle runs in both directions 24 hours a day. When I checked in, they asked me if I wanted to get the shuttle back in the morning. Then I guess they'll agree on an appropriate time.
Excellent video mate !! Here is an "interesting" task for you.. Can you do a round trip comparing an overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani and flight back. Similar to your Vientiane report ..
Many thanks, Steve (confused by Stephen/Steven!). Actually, you know I can't resist a challenge. And I quite fancy another overnight sleeper. No promises, but...it's a possible! 👍
@@balloonchaser I've seen a couple of reports. One shows a separate cabin and the other the same layout as your Vientiane trip.. Good luck !!!
@Stephen-Steven-Stephens I'm pretty sure they have First Class Cabins on the newer Chinese built CNR trains, and second class bunks behind a curtain. Obviously, the newer trains and cabins get booked up well in advance, in some cases 6 months in advance! Also if you travel second class, then there's a hierarchy in that the lower bunks sell out before the upper ones. That's because they're a bit longer, have a window, and usually a power point. It's all very complicated 😃
Excellent hotel opposite the lilac..cannot remember the name..have stayed there many times..great thai restaurant at the junction of the main road..opposite the 7 /11..
Thanks, Colin. Useful information! I think that's The Pheonix Hotel. Saw they had a couple of vans outside when I was filming the end of the video. It's similar pricing and looks more modern, so it's another one for the list! 👍
Good price with the ride from the airport. Not a fan of the color but it would do for one night.
Either someone bought a "job lot" from the paint shop, or they really, really like The Color Purple. Or lilac! But as you say, decent for the money!
I stayed at Thongta resort in Lat krabang many times in the years pre covid. Great shuttle and very keen prices, I think way less than 1000Baht even now. was quite new back in 2014 era ++...........So much going on in immediate area, very busy yet hotel very quiet end of soi. Even left laptopn and money hidden in room one time and realised hours later. Made a call and it was retrieved by staff and handed to friend............unreal really...........................I have no idea if it is still rated though....................
Many thanks, and an interesting story. I just looked at some reviews there and some people still love it, but others find it dated. But the price is currently under 800THB so I'm sure it's worth considering for anyone on a budget! Cheers for the idea!
Any other good inexpensive places to stay near airport arriving after midnight?
Good question! I haven't tried any others yet. But based on recommendations from other viewers I'm interested in trying these (with approx. price in Thai Baht); Thong Ta (around 800 THB) At Residence (1282 THB) Plai and Herbs (690 THB) Silver Gold Garden (569 THB) Mariya Boutique (1024 THB) I will try a couple over the coming weeks!
This one would be my choice for a very late arrival or early depart. When I am dead tired from a long trip or have a very early depart I just want somewhere to sleep before/after and then I can carry on once refreshed. 1100B is the right price point for this. Old school does not bother me. Clean, has the basics and a 7. All I need.
Thanks. Sometimes "old. school" is a positive. At least it has a personality compared to the faceless chain hotels that all look identical. This is ideal for those late arrivals and/or early depatures, for not much more than the cost of a taxi!
@ I agree! Many of my favorite travel memories are owners and staff of local hotels and guest houses who are genuine and go above and beyond for 10% of a chain cost. That said chains have their place but for me I’m mostly about location, price, and the people.
@rburns4048 Yes! Both can be good depending on the circumstances. The last hotel I stayed in was a 1,000 baht chain hotel in Chiang Rai (review incoming). I didn't think I'd like it, but it ticked the boxes. Still nice to go somewhere with a bit of "character" though! 👍
Far more complicated and more expensive than booking a private taxi in advance
I don't disagree with you. If you have a reliable private taxi driver, that's ideal. This is really for people on their first few visits, or arriving without the chance to plan in advance. It's also worth knowing if your flight is severely delayed, as happened to me recently, when a private taxi might not be able to wait. Cheers!
Ten mins drive and it's fee. 20 mins into the city and no one offers it free. Great vid.
Thanks, David. You'd think more hotels in Central Bangkok would offer free transfers as a selling point! Most of the ones I know offer transfers at an inflated price which seems a bit counter intuitive if they want to attract customers!
Great video. I stayed there back in 2019. After flying in from Seattle, I just wanted a shower and a bed. It served the purpose with no issues. I would stay there again. Keep up the the good work
Many thanks. It's a good shout! That's what I needed even though I'd only flown from Chiang Mai. Shower and a sleep! Perfect for that. I'm guessing it hasn't changed much since 2019. And possibly a lot longer! 😃 Thanks again.
one couldn't be more happy with the decor while dropping the kids off at the pool .... 555555
They certainly like the colour lilac at this hotel. I know it's the name, but it's everywhere!😂
so long as the room is Clean , that's the main thing , room size varies but normally on the small side but that's everywhere these days even back home
I agree, Geoffrey. Especially for an airport hotel. Clean, close-by, hot shower, comfortable bed. If it can tick those boxes at a cheap price, I'm happy!
Bargain !! as it usually costs over 1,000baht for a taxi into Bangkok , well done again mate great video as usual , keep them coming
Thanks for the positive feedback, Geoffrey! I think it's a good deal. Have you tried Grab from the airport to Bangkok rather than a regular taxi? Might work out cheaper!
Mariya boutique residence lat krabang
OK, thanks. I'll add that to the ever growing list! Cheers!
What a load of crap. There are about 50 cheap hotels around $50.00 USB within a 3 to 5 minute from the carport.
I've no idea what part of this video you disagree with. At no point did I say there weren't other hotels. In fact I invited people to suggest alternatives, which is the same way I got to know about this one in the first place.
When you arrive, you are flush. When you leave, you'll be counting the satang, sir! 😂🎉 (P.S. What are US baht, yankee doodle?)
What is USB and carport 😂😂😂
Thanks for this video. Because of it, I stayed at the Amaranth a few days ago and was very pleased. Got into BKK just after 11pm and quickly through immigration and baggage reclaim. The shuttle pickup was quick and efficient with only one other couple on the bus so only had to wait a few minutes. My room package didn't include the mini bar contents, but there was a vending machine for a much needed can of beer! Breakfast was good and I was the only one on the shuttle back to the airport the following morning. Will certainly use it again if time didn't allow a trip to the city.
Hey, Peter. I love reading comments like this because my idea is just to show places to people, so that if they like them, they can book themselves. And it's even better when I hear that someone else has had a good experience, and you obviously did! Many thanks for the feedback!
Old school down to what looked like a black and white tv.....I remember them. Fair enough for the price just steal all the free knickables from the room. Tired at 12.30am, showing your age. Super job BC
Thanks, BB. I should say the TV wasn't really B&W incase I upset the hotel owners. At least I don't think so! I was so tired I didn't actually turn it on! When I was young and fit I was still tired by midnight. Now I'm old and fat I need bed, slippers and hot cocoa by 10pm at the latest. Plus some dunking biscuits nicked from the room!
I do like hotels with shuttle services. So convenient. The room rate was not bad at all for the standard of the place. The room was a bit on the small side though and it could use some modernization.
Thanks, David. I guess it might take a bit longer during the day to get to the airport. Although when I checked on google maps it suggested about 15 minutes. I didn't mind the size; I guess most people stay only one night or less. Modernisation would be welcome as long as it's not an excuse to double the price!
Shuttle and the room for 1,100 baht and close to the airport is a really good deal. I don't care about dated or worn furnishings. I also don't think anything is wrong with travellers that want brand spankin' New.
I agree, PFI I like modern and luxury but not when it's four or five times the price. Many people using airport hotels just want a shower and a comfortable clean bed, plus a decent location. Lilac delivers on those, and I thought it was a good deal. I'd stay there again, certainly!
Thai Airways staff out to confuse you!...I bet that air purifier is working overtime in Bangkok...That's a good deal with the minibus included and all to yourself.
Thanks, Mark. You're right, the air quality has taken a turn for the worse in Bangkok over the last few days. There's a lot more expensive hotels that don't offer an air purifier so that's quite impressive, really. Obviously, you can't guarantee the shuttle will be private. It's probably only people like me me who arrive after midnight totally shattered! 😃
Does the price include the shuttle returning to the airport in the morning?
That's a good question. I think it does although I didn't return to the airport. If not the shuttle would be 100 Baht. Also I've seen this hotel on trip.com and elsewhere slightly cheaper than I paid, so it's really not expensive.
You’re tuning up the heat in the local hotels !!!!! 🤭 i didn’t realise it was 24/7 at the airport !! . That shuttle service is handy and the hotel is decent for how close you are to the airport and the price 👌👌. Old school charm indeed. Liking the voice overs BC 😎. Well look after yourself my Mann from a grey day on the Chiltern train back to the midlands !!! All the best have a great weekend 🍻
Thanks, Jimmy. Always better to be returning to the Midlands than leaving it in my book. Unless you're returning from Thailand in which case it's hell! I remember that feeling! Old school charm is the polite way of saying it's old fashioned, I guess. But it did have some charm and the location and price suit me! You got any double time tomorrow? If not, enjoy the rest of the weekend, mate!
@ . It’s nice to find hotels that some hotels have that feel to them👌. I was doing the tourist thing in London when I lived there never saw anything 😂😂. Back to the calmness of the midlands now !!!! Yeah double bubble tomorrow for me 😝😝😝. Havvvvv itttttt 😎😎😎
@@jimmyboysmovies1972 Double Bubble...come on down! I'm sure you've got plans to invest it wisely on your next trip to Thailand! Plus it just goes much further out here, of course!

👍🏼🍻🇦🇺 Will watch tomorrow BC mate , good night
Thanks, SG. Sweet dreams, mate!
You’ve got more make up on then boy George 😂😂😂😂
Thanks, Mick! No make up. Whether there was a filter applied to this video is a different question. I look absolutely terrible after midnight. RUclips would rate it PG. Although there are those that say I look terrible all the time! 😃
@ keep up the good work buddy
Yes mate thanks for the info love this place just extended another week
That's really good to hear! Thanks for letting me know. Must be ok if you're staying another week! 👍
Thanks mate you review was spot on
@simonrodgers9105 Absolute pleasure, Simon.
bc, please... chiang mai/rai/what ever north is so boring... pls stop going there. Back to Pattaya, make videos there. PLS!!!
Thanks for the feedback. Don't think you'll be the biggest fan of the next couple of videos 😔 because I read your comment sitting in Chiang Mai waiting for my taxi to Chiang Rai 😃. But don't worry, I'm heading back to Bangkok after that, and then down to Pattaya. 👍 By the way, what kind of Pattaya content interests you?
Do you know this special bus schedule from survanabhumi airport to North Pattaya bus station? This is the 3 seat per row bus
The bus goes from Level 1 Near Gate 8 and I know it runs at the following times: 08.30, 10.30, 12.30, 14.30, 16.30 and 18.00. That's the Bell Travel Service with 3 seats across. If that's full then the same point sells seats on the hourly service to Jomtien bus station, but that's 4 seats across.
I think I have found the hotel I will be staying when I come to Thailand next year. Thanks for your review!💪🏾🇺🇸
My pleasure . I don't think you'll be disappointed!
Crease to expensive 15.000 THB. FOR A BUNGALOW
That sounds interesting. Thanks.
Another great detailed Hotel review B.C
Many thanks for your support, PFI!
Hop Inn review would be good as they are a Large chain all over TL etc.
Thanks, Steve. You're right they're all over Thailand and I've never tried that brand. I know they've got a couple of hotels around Chiang Mai including one at the airport. So definitely a brand for me to try!
Thanks BC. I would go to Amaranth nice comfortable pace for a connecting flight after 12-14 hours. Any suggestion for a stay in Bangkok for my return say 2 -3 nights.
Thanks. The Amaranth is a decent choice! Bangkok I'd such a huge place that's it's difficult to recommend without knowing more about what you like. But I've said in videos before that my favourite place is Sukhumvit Soi 11. So to start with I'd recommend there. ruclips.net/video/lr6tMbw2ii8/видео.htmlsi=Omq3d3chuckEoNjn ruclips.net/video/zsD4GSczSnk/видео.htmlsi=IT2aeTHUP5y9qW76 ruclips.net/video/RmCkpZoQmiw/видео.htmlsi=r4gguTfv-OZOLdbj
I'm guessing like everywhere else, rates will go up near Christmas/New Years 😞
Yes, you're right. All places put their prices up. I saw this place starting under 2500THB at Christmas time.
I take it you didn't get ravaged in the night...does anyone ever use those bath robes or slippers? You could have modelled them down at breakfast!
Chiang Mai is not crowded on November?
Not really crowded. End of rainy season but not yet high season so not very busy
I think at 150 THB/per person ($4.40), is a great deal - breakfast buffet + the convenience ☺👍
Yes, James. I've seen better breakfasts but really for that price it's a steal
Does the baht bus to Pattaya go down as far as this hotel?
Sadly not David. You'd need to get a Bolt taxi or Grab either from where you are or from the end of the baht bus route.
Nice little hotel BC basic simple clean does what you need if you spend a lot of time out. Breakfast is worth it save going out in the morning heat . Take it easy my Mann
Thanks, Jimmy. Breakfast definitely worth the extra money. I could drink enough coffee to make it worthwhile. I don't think it's bad for 1500-1800 Baht because Nimman is always more because it's the trendy part of town. The only surprise is why they let me in! 😀
You got yourself a cinematographer... you've gone Hollywood! LOL. Great review as always.
Well, I've got myself a face tracker on my camera, which I suppose is the same thing! 😀 It's certainly cheaper to feed! Thanks for your comment
nice(ish) hotel, i DO like a decent balcony though, brekkie looked average apart from the awesome waffles!😜😜😜 i'm guessing the prices reflect the upmarket area, not for me, but thanks for the review as always BC👍👍👍
Thanks, Tony. I think you've called it about right. Balcony is always a plus, but this one was too small to do anything on, really. Breakfast got some good reviews, but for me was a bit underwhelming apart from the waffles as you said. I love this area of Chiang Mai and it is probably the most fashionable/trendiest part of the city. Prices do reflect that and there's no doubt that more value can be found elsewhere. For me I enjoy the vibe around Nimman. Not least because of the numerous excellent coffee shops!
G'day BC mate , looks like a nice enough room at a nice enough price. My Uncle has lived in Chiang Mai for the last 25 years and we go to visit him for a few days every time we are in Thailand. I really like the city and the relaxed vibe. Always enjoy a "what's in the fridge" appearance even though it was just a couple of waters. Thanks mate 👍🏼🍻🇦🇺
Thanks, SG. I know a few people who don't really like Chiang Mai as they think it's a bit quiet. But for my part, I really love it, especially around Nimman where this hotel is. Hopefully a few more fridges to open in the next few weeks! Thanks for the support!
Trust you ate breakfast for 2 or at least stuffed some eggs and sausages in your pocket for later. Didn't mention a bar or guest friendly. Great job as usual well done BC
Thanks, BB. I think the hotel is guest friendly. They didn't seem at all wrried about who was having breakfast as long as you had your breakfast coupon! I went for the healthy breakfast as usual. Waffles and honey, some of those deep fried pandan things, some bread and lots of coffee. I didn't have room for any eggs and putting a sausage in my trouser pocket might have attracted attention for all the wrong reasons!
Looks like a reasonable option if you want to be in CM and do not want to spend the earth. Decor is definitely pretty nice. I like the wood.
Thanks, David. There seems to be a lot of choice around this price point at the moment. Maybe high season hasn't started, or maybe people have been put off by the floods of a few weeks ago. Either way, I don't think it's overly expensive. And to be fair to the hotel, the decor actually looked better to the eye than it does on the camera. So not a bad option!
There was more silicone in the bathroom than in a LB's chest... talk about overspill 🙂
Jeff, you seem very knowledgeable about this subject? Bathrooms, I mean, obviously!😅😅

Any thought of why Hua Hin- Chang Mai? Both are attractive desitnations but in what way are they connected.., do the typical Hua Hin visitors have an urge for the North? Cheers BC👍.
Thanks, Anders. I do find it strange that this is the only flight! Trying to apply logic is difficult! In some ways, Hua Hin is almost "too close" to places like Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket. I think to get any value, the flight needs to cover a greater distance and be much shorter than an equivalent road trip. As Chiang Mai is a major hub in the North, I guess there's some logic in it. I remember back in the day, they used to fly further South, to places like Trat, but even then, they used ATR72 turboprops rather than jets. That's a long-winded way of saying I don't really know! 😀
@@balloonchaser Pretty good answer though👍.
Nice little airport BC handy for a quick flight saves the long car n train journey. Shame about the flight time change you almost lose a whole day. Still can make up for that in the evening . Reminds me of jersey 🇯🇪 airport. Nice one BC take care my Mann
Thanks, Jimmy. I like small airports. My favourite in Thailand has got to be Samui. Doesn't look like an airport at all! Hua Hin is a bit like that. It has some gardens that you used to be able to walk round. And everyone is helpful and friendly. Never been to Jersey, but made it as far as Guernsey. Few years ago mind you! Any double dabble today?
@ I’m on it today my Mann !!!!!! Had lunch and watched your latest vlog 😆😆 now back to the grind 🤯🤯🤯 roll on next April that’s keeping me going 🍻🍻
@jimmyboysmovies1972 April is not that far away, Jimmy! Once the new year arrives, you can start counting down the days! 👍
