as a complete novice and someone just booked onto a competent crew course, that has just stressed me out ! 😀
Why go all the way out to East Borough Head? You could make directly for Shoreham once past Mixon.
Great video, thanks. I'm used to sailing in Dubai and the Med; would you still see boats sailing during the cold seasons in the south of England? Or as we say in Scotland.... it's not bad weather.... it's bad cloths!!! LOL
Absolutely yes. If you have a good boat heating system you can enjoy the South coast when it's quiet. Recommend it.
Excellent overview of marine diesel engine maintenance. I've just subscribed ... which I do sparingly. Keep up the good videos.
Just sheared off my bleed screw, while tightening with the smallest 5" long 1/4" drive ratchet! Absolutely hopeless design! Managed to get the end of the screw out with great difficulty by drilling a small (1.6mm) hole opposite the slot and using vice grips to twist a drill in the new hole and a Allen key in the slot. Absolute nightmare!

Interesting to see your planning timings. Being old school I plan on paper, but often sail with others that plan on a tablet or phone. We take about the same time and have a very similar plan. The big, nay huge, difference is they are constantly looking at their phone to see where we are. I am convinced that as I see a bigger picture that this is absorbed by my brain better.
Best video on this I've seen, and believe me, I watched a lot of them recently:)
Thank you very much, my brother, for this distinguished work that you did and introduced me to. I benefited a lot from you. You are a good man.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you.
Recently bought a Norman 22, moored on a pontoon on the Ancholme at Brandy Wharf. +she's my second boat and definitely a project lol
It sounds like you had a troublesome experience with the wrap job. I would have lost it if that had happened to me just a day after launch! I appreciate this video and your candid experience. Many thanks
Very good as usual. Always wondered what that black rubber button was for.😂
As someone new to the boating world, thank you so much for this video. Very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video, thank you!
Possibly, at some stage, you might you find the time to take ten seconds to maybe update the people who have followed your channel loyally and have messaged you but no response. Regular videos and then concrete silence is, well, possibly a bit unfair. Anyway, my last comment, hope you are well x.
Great video. What time did you go through the needles channel? HW+4?
Hi, is this similar on the Penta 2001? Love your videos, thanks
Great job
Thanks
Good video. Those 'smart' Whale pumps are useless. Had 2; All they ever did was sit submerged in bilge water doing nothing, or run the batteries flat pumping air. Now happily using float pumps - little to go wrong!
Good job mate
Thankyou very much
Thx my next to do learn have a fab day
Thanks for watching
😮😅
2:10 Aw, I miss navionics web app. Rip Nice editing btw. I like the nav input in the real time videos. VERY well done.
Sailing ? Motoring !
Bolt croppers, hard/softwood bungs and a hammer???
You’ve got more tools on your boat than B&Q or Snap-On! Practically unless you are away cruising for months on end the vast majority of the tools could easily stay at home in the shed/garage until it was time for that particular project, A few select drivers, spanner’s and pliers is more than enough, imho of course 😂
Well after many years of leaving the tools at home, and either forgetting them when needed, or something unplanned breakdown occuring and realising tools that are required are still at home, I now carry everything I need on board at all times.
Great video. This is where we keep our boat. Even if you pop in and anchor for lunch, the Harbour Patrol will pounce on you for harbour dues. 'Bosham' is pronounced 'Bozam' and Itchenor Reach is not a river!
Hello, if you're entering portsmouth from the east, do you need to join the swashway from the start? Or can you approach the SBC with spitbank fort on your portside and 2bar starboardside? On a Neap tide
Hello, for which reason you removed the expansion tank from originally mounted engine support bracket, and installed the boat frame ?
Hi , off Yarmouth there is a hole 170 feet depth , hence the whirlpools and off of Hurst castle , we have looked right down some from our Rib . Looks like some one has pulled the bath plug out .
Hi! My Volvo Penta 5D A 1982 doesn't have a coolant or sea water strainer. The previous owner told me that the cooling system has been modified to a freshwater setup, so I don't need to do anything. I also don't see any container where coolant could be added. Is it true that I don't need to do anything, or do I need to add coolant in some way? How is this monitored? I've also seen some MD 5 engines with a shut-off valve with a red handle on the lower left when looking from the back, but on my engine, it feels like something is there, but the handle is missing. Was it removed for some reason? Perhaps because of the change from saltwater to freshwater cooling? Could someone clarify this for me or provide a link where I can read more about it?
Hi there! My Volvo Penta 5D doesn't have a coolant or sea water strainer. The previous owner mentioned that the cooling system has been modified to a freshwater setup, so I don't need to do anything. Is that true?
How much what's the price
Yeah.. I'd love sleeping like that
"We should open taps" Where are the taps? How to make the coolant to run actually out of the engine?
I appreciate the video, could there be another one in tempestuous conditions when the reality is really upon us?
Good tutorial. Thanks much mate! Minor Feedback: Audio could be slightly better. There some hum in the indoor portions, and a wind sock would reduce wind noise in the outdoor portions.
As ex SAS I remember my boss taking a short cut which wrecked our propeller blades. Yes, keep to the channel markers.
Thanks so much for the wealth of info and resources! This will be/has been a big help.
Your videos are awesome. Good on you for showing the whole story. Great for learning about marine engine failure points and problem solving!
I Love Emsworth, been there a few times 🙂
Some wise words in your intro. A lesson I learned the hard way - Boats are not like modern Cars. More like the old bombs I had when I was young. If you just jump in and go, without checking everything first, sooner or later you will regret it. Upside of my experience is that after replacing my boat's engine, I am now intimately familiar with my new engine and peripheral systems. The wallet is a lot lighter, but I'm much more confident and methodical about everything I do on the boat.
Thanks for the comments, and good luck with the new engine.
Thank you for this useful, warts-and-all film on wrapping a boat, it's the best on RUclips.
Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Fabulous day out!
It certainly is. Thanks for watching
I love my d 1 30 its a perkins block with volvo marinising it the 115 am alternator is great for charging and uses only about 2 liters a hour cruising great piece of kit
