How To's - Tool Reviews - Side Hustle
I started building my basement woodshop in 2019.... a shop is never really "finished", right guys? I'm continuing to add to and improve my shop as I go along and as I find time. I'm juggling a family with two college students, a full time job, a side hustle in woodworking and home improvement projects, and - since the beginning of 2022 - this RUclips Channel.
On this channel you can find things like:
- Improving my work stations
- Building things for customers
- Tips / tricks for beginning woodworkers
- Tool Reviews
But the thing I'm most excited about, the reason I got into woodworking initially. And, incidentally, something I haven't even started working on yet, is a furniture design that I believe God downloaded into my brain a couple of decades ago.
I invite you to watch as I develop His design into something that can be used for His purposes! I covet your prayers toward this end.
God bless, be safe, and love each other!

My First Craft Fair and I Have Nothing To Sell!
Great job!!
Thanks man!
I started woodworking a year ago and decided to go with a used 4512 as there were plenty available in my city, I picked mine up for $350CAD in barely used condition. Since then I've upgraded the fence slides. There are 3D printer files that got my fence straight to within half a milimeter, highly recommended. I also found that the right side accessory wing perfectly accommodates the Bosch RA1181 router table! It was easy to attach. I too wish that I was able to get the top flatter, I may disassemble the unit at some point and see what can be done or replace the stamped steel sections with a wood top
Thanks for your input!
How did you level left and right side?
At first I didn’t think that was an issue but now I’m finding that it is. I think mine is the bed, and not the head. Not sure how to fix that. Sorry. 😞
Just bought the G0555 bandsaw. My table isn't flat. Sliding a cross cut sled on it it catches on the back pull and digs in a bit going forward. That aside, WD40 or T9 is good to use, then a good paste wax. I miss LL Johnson's Paste wax, can't buy it anymore. Minwax is "ok" but I miss the old stuff
Sorry about your table! I wish they could get their machining right. My table isn’t square in any direction!
👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
How do mount the down strip to keep it from following down.?
Good question! You can drill a pilot hole through the last slat into the dowel and add a small screw. Or you can make it without a “trunk” and the bottom slat rests on the stand.
How beautiful!!!
I’m glad you like it.
So pretty!!!!!!
Thank you!!
My dad made the almost identical thing back in the early 60s. I still have it, I miss my dad😢
I love that! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the review! I'm a first-time homebuyer and aspiring newbie DIYer and your review helped reassure me that this drill/driver would cover most typical drilling/fastening tasks. All the different information out there about impact this, hammer drill that, had my head spinning today researching this stuff! I especially like that this kit comes with 2x 2 Ah batteries where most other starter kits only provide a single battery. Still available at Amazon at a great price too! I also really appreciate your soft-spoken style.
Glad I could help! Happy DIYing!
You don’t need the hammer function unless you’re drilling into concrete or brick.
You wish you Got this earlier…. 😳🙄😁
Really?
The link provided for the double-sided tape is to a seller's website and does not provide info on the particular tape you used.
Thanks for letting me know. I’ll try to fix that.

Love it thanks. New subscriber
Welcome!
@BrettsWoodshop probably a stupid question, but do you glue the pieces in place once rotated? Or do they get held in place by the top piece?
Not a stupid question. No glue is needed. They pretty much stay where you put them by friction. You can rearrange in different patterns if you want. And they'll lay flat for storage.
@@BrettsWoodshop Amazing, thank you so much.
0:28 Can you do the math for an 18 inch tall tree?
You can with this calculator www.brettsbasementwoodshop.com/plans/p/wooden-tree-height-width-calculator-for-windows-excel
That music sucks
You’re not the first to say it.
wow such quality and effort in that sanding.
Are you messing with me?
more tacky wooden shite great
What a beautiful board. Loved it
Thanks so much 😊 I’m quite proud of that one.
As a result of watching your step-by-step video and recommendation, I ordered the cutter head for my DW734 on sale this past Sunday night from a cruise ship. I was amazed to discover the product was being delivered direct from China and more amazed that it arrived at my residence yesterday, Wednesday in Ottawa, Canada. I proceeded to install the cutter today, Thursday and after following diligently your instructions was able to complete the process in about 5.5 hours. I tested the cutter on a few pieces of oak and was amazed with the result. Absolutely no snipe or shearing marks when going against the grain. Look forward to my next project, a few side tables in walnut. Thank you for the recommendation and thorough step by step guide.
You’re very welcome! I’m happy for you!

THANK YOU, EXCELLENT PRESENTATION, and I DIDN'T LOOSE ANY SCREWS.
Nice work!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Good work love the board and chess. Music is a bit loud though. Keep up the good work boss! 👍
Sorry about that
Saving up for a helical cutter, but HOW do you get your planer to look spotless? My could use a good cleaning.....
Vacuum, compressed air, 3 in 1 oil or WD40 and a toothbrush in stubborn spots. Happy maintenance! 😁
Wow - what a beautiful board! I grew up playing this with my grandparents and decided I'd like to try my hand at making them one for Christmas. I'm fairly new to woodworking and am curious what router bit you used to plunge all the holes? Thanks in advance!
What a great memory! Families who play together stay together. I used a 1/4” Spiral Upcut Router Bit like this amzn.to/3Z7DLx5 God bless!
Great video! Looks like a fun project! I think you may have the wrong address linked for the calculator though because I’m not seeing it when I click any of the links in description!
Hmmm… thanks for letting me know! I’ll check into it. You may have to navigate around my website. Try this www.brettsbasementwoodshop.com/plans/p/wooden-tree-height-width-calculator-for-windows-excel
My metabo doesn’t do that pop out the magazine
I’m glad for you. I might just have a lemon 🍋…. Or it needs maintenance that I’m not aware of.
You should look for the RUclips video released by Fine Woodworking magazine that features, Michael Fortune explaining how to set your bandsaw table to deal with what is called “drift.” There is no better video on this topic on RUclips or anywhere else. I like the way you explain things. But your cartoons are superfluous. Not everybody is interested in the Kreg after market fence, and this too is superfluous to the video on setting up a bandsaw. I respectfully suggest you pull this video off RUclips and redo it. And this time, edit out your dropping of tools on the floor. No, I have never done a RUclips video, and neither do I intend to. But I have seen enough of them to know the difference between a quality video and a person’s first attempt. My comments are not intended to criticize, but to be critical, hoping that you will notice where you can improve your videography.
Thank you for your comments. Recording and editing good videos that are helpful and engaging is an ever evolving process. I strive to make small improvements with every video I make. And if you were to go back and watch my earlier attempts, I think you would see that. No style of video is an exact fit for all viewers. People are free to skip past parts that they are not interested in or stop watching altogether. I even suggested that in the intro to this video. With all dude respect, I have no intention of taking this video off of RUclips.
Thanks for the vid!! I have to replace my head, and this is the best video instructions out there!!
You're welcome! Glad it helped.
nice 😊😊
Thanks 😊
great job! ❤
Glad you like it!
This... is... FANTASTIC!. I've never heard of you before. But I totally dig this. Thank you and subscribed.
Welcome!
Wow those saw horses sure are a great fucking idea. Thanks.
Thanks! I’m in the process of making plans and a build video for them. Stay tuned….
Sweet yours came pre drilled
Once I drilled them all, then they were pre drilled, yep 👍🏼 See the full video. It’s only 6:30 minutes.
This was fun! I like the star on top too 🤘🏼
Glad you liked it!!
For the screws, perhaps make the holes smaller and then tap them so the screw will tighten to the hole.
Thanks. Didn’t think of that because I wasn’t expecting a problem. But that might work for someone else who sees this.
Hey Brett! Nice Christmas project. If you did a small one and hung it outside it would maybe spinning the breeze and look Coo! just thinking?
Yep, I’ve seen those at craft fairs and such.
can i have the board brett? pretty please
It’s already sold. But I could make you one!
@@BrettsWoodshop how much do they go for? i got trouble finding a job (im going full x-games mode on chess and dont have time) and im on a tight budget
Best video on here , definitely need to apply this tips on my worksite ; only difference is I cut bones and to make boney voids.
Hopefully not your own bones! 🤪
wonderful job. love your calmness.... the burp at the end though lol
Thanks for watching all the way through! 😄
Has your family given any feedback regarding a bag that hits the hole over the brace? Does it fall through NP or does it jam up the works?
I haven’t gotten much feedback from my customer. But the set I made for my family hasn’t been a problem.
What wood did you use?
8/4 cherry and 2/4 maple
Nice video! Clear, concise, and straight to the point. Thanks!!👍👍
You're very welcome!
Oh boy! Christmas time!! Haha, nice project and video!
You betcha!
Super helpful. The instructions completely failed to explain how to install the anti-kickback poles.
You're not the first to say so. I had no idea this little video was going to help so many people. I didn't even read the instructions!
Keep it up Nurse.
Thank you, I will
Thy, very well explained jig construction. better than the others I saw.
Thank you!
Nice work
Thanks for the visit
