SoCal Outdoor Explorer

I combine hiking with a little bit of history. I'm especially interesting in SoCal waterfalls, historical ruins/relics, mines, peaks, crosses, sites with fossils, caves, fire lookouts, all things abandoned, and any California historic landmarks and monuments.

Cave of Munits & Castle Peak In El Escorpión Park
Ghosts of great movie cowboys abound😅😅😅
Hard to get to?
Loved this place in the 70's.........was a biker bar in this campground.
Thank you for making this video! I treasure our Los Angeles history and the places of long ago. That would have been quite a ride up to Ye Alpine Tavern!🌲🚃😃
The arch at the Tumble Inn is not the original. I frequently rode my ATV up there and watched it being reconstructed.
Sub’d
Have you been to the site of the Stealth Jet Believed to Have Crashed (07/1986). Definitely google it if you haven’t pretty crazy story. Memory is bad, I think it was in Bakersfield area but not 100% sure. I know it was sealed off, No press or public allowed to see it at the time.
Thought this was gated. You just used a drone? Cool stuff
My Grandparents lived on Madeline, west of Orange Grove. I remember my Grandmother telling me they found large pipes from the old Busch Gardens when they were building their house back in the early 1960's. I never realized what she was referring too until I got older and started seeing references to the old gardens. It's always interesting to think there were amazing places all over California that have long been buried or demolished.
Hi just came across your site. Just curious about the plaque. Francisco Lopez . Do you know anything about him ?
so. cal. needs more mistakes like this one to save more indiginous land of the tongva
Beautiful
Antonovich was a scumbag; glad he's long gone. As a kid, I remember passing Elsmere Canyon on the way to the Valley and seeing the beautiful Big Cone Douglas-firs right next to the freeway perched on the cliffs and daydreaming about living in the forest someday.
has anyone done anything on the LA 78 site the Launching area is there but I think the IFC is just Towers now...
Does the OAK OF THE GOLDEN DREAM still stand?
Yes, and really easy to get to. It’s in Placerita canyon state park
I used to live in Northridge and played there a number of times. I even have a ball with the cascades logo n it. Very quirky course built on the side of a mountain. It would get pretty windy up there too. Just a shame they closed it so quickly.
Cool! I grew up in Sand Canyon and took Vasquez Canyon Road many a times to visit friends and family over in Saugus. The scenes from Duel bring back memories of the good ole days when Santa Clarita was just Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus and Valencia with a combined population of 49K back in the late 1970's...
You're going to the slide the hard way. We never took that road which used to be Old Mountain Ave /Baldy Rd. We went around the top of the slide on the east side.
Love this place ! Got it in fog a year ago, so fun 🙌🤩
La Janelle
Wow. Before the fires, that canyon was dark, cool, and shady with alder trees and wild grape. That was 40 years ago.....
I went to Sulphur Springs Elementary School from 1978-81. We took a walking field trip to the MItchell family graveyard and I still have yellowing pictures of that trip. I'm happy to see it has not been bulldozed yet. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 14 was rerouted around the cemetery.
As a kid zooming by on the freeway, I always marveled about the odd placement of trees that just look like they didn't belong. I even recall a palm tree still alive back in the early 1980's. Now, it's all been burnt and only memories remain.
Thank you for researching your work and not spreading wikipedia-style "facts" around the internet. Lord knows there's enough misinformation out there.
So sad 😢.... it was so pretty❤ It was also used for the garden party at Twelve oaks in "Gone with the wind " ❤
The tunnel did led to some where, it was an short cut for his donkeys
Hi, did you go inside the caves?
I think by 2030 the picnic table will be gone due the structure
Comical anyone ever believed this aqueduct "story" Another example of finding old world system and dredging it out from whatever catastrophe wiped out the realm a short few hundred years ago.
R.I.P sorry owen brown sara ali akan menghidupkan mu 😊
El Nino and the Northridge earthquake. Watch out for rattlers!
Where do you find that hideous music?
Sara ali be like : Whyyy DID U LEAVE MEEE!
Would you be able to tell me where you got access to the photos of the newspaper clippings? I'm working on a project about a former patient at Rancho from the 60s, and it would be super helpful to be able to include that! Any info would be much appreciated!
Thank you🙏🏼

0:08 shows the famous stunt jump with Tony Mix and his horse Tony from the film Three Jumps Ahead, filmed in 1923...
In the 70’s or 80’s a bus rolled off the freeway and went into the lake and they never found it
I saw a map before when I found
We found bro at what cost💀
It’s a shame it was torn down. This should have been a declared a historical property in Pasadena 🌹.
Also known as the Lone Ranger ranch where episodes of the 1950s t.v. show were filmed there.
In disrepair.
Is there any hiking there? Do you know "Water Falls" Falls as listed on Google in the Newhall area"?
