      It’s a journey testing all the wheels, and I grew found of metal mutha (some on eBay) 70mm with 78a duro, because I could anticipate when the wheels were going to break loose, and when sliding there was a grip onto the street from the wheels that made the slide feel very controllable to me. I would say a slide with some resistance that’s Not to Icy…

      I’ve never seen anyone try to slow down with applied resistance to any wheels, however with some practice you can use one foot applying pressure on the street in a straight line, and some skilled rollers are good at negotiating with speed while foot braking.

      @@Daapix You can’t go wrong with Paris trucks… They perform great out of the wrapper and can be dialed in with some legit bushings from Riptide Sports! What you don’t want is trucks that bring the deck down so low, that you end up dragging your heels or toes on the road when carving/ turning, and or trucks that are too narrow giving you wheel bite when carving a turn (wheels needs clearance from deck when carving, or else they bite into deck and rider goes flying away…)

    Thank you for this video. When you put the angled spacers on, how do the screws still fit into the deck? Did you have to drill a hole at an angle? I can't figure out how the truck could be at an angle and still screw in tight. I want to do this to my board. Thanks!

    • @michellandegent5957
      @michellandegent5957 Год назад

      Holes don’t need to be angled in the deck. A lot of wedges are made of a flexible material and have some rubber and even the plastic wedges have plenty of give. As for the bolts, you’ll have to go to Ace hardware and figure out what you need. Make sure the length of the bolts to NOT interfere with the the movement of the hanger on the truck. I say this if you find some random hardware at your house and not the correct length. Just twist the trucks after you install wedges and see if there is any contact with the hanger from the truck to the bolts. Same goes for both hangers on the trucks. I always used two different sizes for the wedges. Turning wedges the opposite way will also make the board turn slower and can help in some instances for learning to skate for beginners…

    I'm a heavy rider and I used this video a couple of years ago to put a longer kingpin in so I could use a double barrel bushing setup. I tried the black hard Doh-doh's but it just didn't work. I put the yellow hard Independent barrel bushings in and it was perfect aside from the kingpin being a tad too tall. Just a pinch talker than the hanger but at least I can ride it now. It's more of a 'lean' board than a carving board but if I can get the weight off, then I can I can worry about better turning and 50-50's.

      Right on… Finding the right bushings is sometimes a journey but worth the effort… I spent a couple of grand collecting bushings with most of those funds going to Riptide Sports Bushings since they have an arsenal of products for most any application. I previously recommended using gloves but since I don't want to chance anyone getting hurt from scrapes when grinding bare-handed, or using gloves, especially not cloth, and in rare cases leather gloves still can get pulled in. I've never had it happen to me with non-raw tight fitting leather gloves, but I think the best recommendation is to use locking pliers to hold whatever is being cleaned/polished to ensure your hands stay far far away from the wheel. PS: I also recommend not wearing metal rings of anykind in and around a shop. Switched to a silicone band after hearing of too many horror stories of degloving and arcing/burning someone when around electricity or welding.

      I’m in the process of moving and my Skateboard goods are packed, but I can say that I’m remembering the hanger being much steeper than my 50 degree downhill trucks, so obviously 90 degree is basically straight up and down/ right angle with level, so somewhere around 70 degrees? 70 degrees would be my approximate guess.

    • @michellandegent5957
      @michellandegent5957 3 года назад

      I looked at both your choices and would choose neither for commuting regardless of the terrain, especially with your weak knee. In my opinion and with the experience of rolling for years, I’d pick a double drop deck. Nothing extreme since having too much drop will have you scraping both your toes and heals when carving. When I say double drop, I’m referring to trucks going thru deck and the deck actually transitioning lower in the middle by about an inch. 76mm wheels is probably the biggest you want to go, since they are a good all around size for control/ speed/ carving.

    Hey I’m interested in trying some Paris V3 trucks in 43 degree...I never really considered that for taking the twitchy feeling out of them, as you mentioned. Do you have any experience on those for general riding and distance pushing?

    • @michellandegent5957
      @michellandegent5957 3 года назад

      Haven’t tried the V3’s but trying out the V2’s at 43 degrees was less than impressive compared to a Randal 43 degree in the back. Important to remember is that you want the deck to sit level, otherwise Carving smooth and stability becomes an issue. Personally I would invest in some Riptide bushings with whatever trucks your using. I like Arsenal trucks since they aren’t too tall, but most trucks can be set up sweet, with the proper bushings. I should add that the Randal 43 worked sweet, with a Chubby bushing and WFB bushing from Riptide with A 88 Duro, for both with my weight and style I rode at a 190lbs. You just have to experiment to see what you like. It’s an investment, that has an awesome reward if you just drop a few dollars and test. Good luck.

      @@michellandegent5957 I just watched your other video about modifying a longboard where you talk about the width of the hanger affecting whether or not a truck is good for drop through mounting. It's at 13:30 in that video. Would the Randal trucks be good for that? A 50 in the front and a 43 in the back. Thanks for these videos :)

    Hey Mike! Thanks for all your videos! I learned alot from you about LDP long boarding…I wanted to make a board for my brother…do you still have a supply?

      Thanks for asking, but I’ve been liquidating what I don’t roll with. If your in Big Bear Lake CA, I have some personal inventory I could spare, however shipping anything isn’t something I am willing to do.

      @@rogerharvey9863 If it’s fun for ya… then your progression will continue! I started on a Ripstick when I was 50 and loved the challenge and the motion…. progressed from that to try multiple longboards and formats, which led to sliding the streets… And the challenge of skating Park appealed to me, so I found some flow being a skate park surfer! Tricks are for the kids, so I keep the wheels on the ground and blast around! I feel like it’s an investment of a skill set that will always pay dividends of good times!

    I am 55. Will I shatter like a wheat thin if I ride a longboard and take a tumble?

      I would like to say NOT… But your background is what counts, like have you been active? Running, Surfing, Backpacking, trail running, rock climbing, mountain biking, bmx, ball sports, etc… So if you can answer yes to any of that, you should be good! I’m 62 now and Rip MTB at the Downhill Park at Snow Summit multiple times a week… Its a lifestyle, and it’s the same with rolling Longboards… Which I still enjoy doing. Good Luck!

    Do you know/think the 107mm will fit on the Landyachtz Evo 40 without modification? It might be a little much but I think these would be fun for cruising

    • @michellandegent5957

      Being that it’s a top mount truck attachment it’s possible, but my guess after looking at the deck is that a slight mod will be necessary. The deck is 10 ply maple so I see no problem using a portable belt sander to hog out the area which would cause wheel bite. The 107’s will make the deck ride high and carving on the EVO is already challenged with how they angle the nose of the deck. Get some fast 76mm like Black ops from Seismic and you’ll have all the speed you need! Besides all that, if you can make the 107’s fit, good luck doing a brake check with those beasty wheels haha.

Monday -Thursday and there’s no lift line… I’m still rolling but with the Park being open, I’m stoked on ripping the trails… Keep on rolling friend!
