I put this shot together in HitFilm as a bit of a test, to make my bearded dragon (Loki) breathe fire. When he grows up, he is going to be a real dragon!

This is a shot I put together trying to work out how to reconstruct an effect similar to Kylo Ren's lightsaber in HitFilm 4 Pro. Eventually I'll make a tutorial showing how the effect is done, but I had to figure out how to do it first.

I took some footage of the trebuchet my family built, and added an incendiary projectile to it using HitFilm. Most of the smoke is particles, while the impact explosion is a blend of stock footage and particle effects.

I posted an early version of this effect a while back, and have since had a chance to work on the effect a bit more and dial it in. So here is a much improved version, inspired by a shot in one of the trailers for Walter Mitty. Will hopefully release a tutorial for the effect in the not too distant future, on the official HitFilm channel.
Set modifications using mocha HitFilm

This is a panning scene I tracked in mocha HitFilm and the added various modifications using that tracking data in HitFilm. I added a skyline, added damage to one of the towers (The grain elevator), added some smoke to that damage, then replaces some signage on one of the buildings and a box van. This is the end result of a shot I'm working on for a tutorial on tracking pans in mocha.

I created this shot as an experiment with using mocha HitFilm to track a moving object into a scene with a moving camera. The effect is based on Majahr's energy ball, which I recently did a tutorial on.

Another song from Jody Ellen's debut album, Skyscrapers and Helicopters. This is the title track. Its pretty clear that my playalong in the video is a little bit sloppier than the original track, which I'm blaming on nerves, due to the cameras. I definitely need to work on that though. The drums in the original track, and the playalong drums recorded here, are both by me.

Fringe-style 3D Extruded Titles, with Motion Tracking, in HitFilm 2

I wanted to try track a 3D extruded title into a shot with a moving camera, using only Hitfilm 2 Ultimate (the beta, in this case). Like they commonly do in the show Fringe. This is how it turned out. I used mocha HitFilm, which is bundled with every copy of HitFilm 2 Ultimate, for the tracking, and the text was created and extruded in HitFilm 2 Ultimate.

I've seen variations of this shot in lots of different films, and wanted to try my hand at it. I used HitFilm Ultimate to enhance the practical lighting and create the rays and boost the candle glow. My brother Corey helped with the camera, since I wanted a camera move, and I was in the shot.

Some of the birds are hanging around like bees, but nonetheless, it's a great effect, believable! Maybe a bit faster or wider movement... if the birds could fly into the picture from a couple of directions, it would be more awesome! :D
