The Sound Of Water - DIY Hydrophone Test (RIVER SOUNDS)

    Hello! What program can you recommend to a beginner for 32-bit float files? Audacity, Audition, Reaper? What software and plugins do you use yourself? How do you process 32-bit float files?

    • @JonasFasching
      @JonasFasching 4 дня назад

      Hey there. For beginners I would recommend using a free software such as Audacity which also supports the use of 32-bit float files. I myself am iZotope RX to edit, normalize etc. For further use, sampling, composition and arraning recordings I use Ableton Live.

    Oh one final tip: add a trademark symbol after your official company name and brand names. This affords you some legal protection. Example: Gamahea™ This lets people know it's your trademark, and leaves them with no excuse for stealing it. You can also use the copyright symbol (circled C) as so: "All music, art, logos, and related materials are ©2024 Gamahea LLC, All Rights Reserved" It's fine to use the ©without restrictions. Your stuff, your copyright the moment you made it. HOWEVER, you CANNOT legally use the REGISTERED copyright symbol (the circled R, which won't show in this text for some reason), unless you've actually registered something with the US Copyright Office.

    This caused me to remember a project I did about 40 years ago, my memory of it is very vague but I think it was something I picked from an electronic magazine that was supposed to help in fishing, it was some kind of oscillator circuits that made some noises, I put it in a closed jar weighted down with rocks. As far as I can remember it did not help at all, I did not bring the gizmo the next times I went fishing.

    How much of its sensitivity did you cancel by coating the sensor? Wouldn’t it be better to leave its sensing surface exposed and somehow create a seal around the transition?

    • @JonasFasching

      I was actually thinking the same thing. Maybe I will build another one and try to compare them. But for now the quality seams to be pretty neat for my taste. But i gues it will have an impact on the sound depending on the coating you choose. Thanks for watching and your interesting comment.

      So nice to hear that you are recording and playing guitar! I think the best way is to start releasing things you made if you are happy with it. Maybe you can start sharing it with friends and family and from there it can grow. Plus creating a bit of an online presence could definitely help. I think it requires some patience on the way, so dont get discouraged at the beginning. Good luck and all the best.

    Hi, I'm pretty new into field recording and wanted to ask if you are able to use your rode stereo bar with the 20cm distance between omnidirectional microphones in most of your use cases? I am asking because I saw also foldable stereo bars where you have more possibilities, from wider to closer ranges between the mics? I'm unsure if the maximum distance of 20 cm is okay, as I read mixed things online depending on the subject you want to record. My goal is to record ambiences and nature sounds (birds, rivers, wind etc) Könntest du mir da viel nen Ratschlag geben? Ganz liebe Grüße

    • @JonasFasching
      @JonasFasching 17 дней назад

      Hey there, thanks for watching and thanks for your question. I personally really like to record with cardioid mics and the ortf setup. But if you are working with omnidirectional mics, a larger AB setup could actually also sound very good. Sometimes i use the microUsi's which are Omnidirectional, and i just click them somwhere with a large gap (ca. 1 m) and this also creates a really nice sound. So maybe if you are working with omnis its not bad if you have a stereobar which is a bit wider and gives you more options.

    • @tamheck
      @tamheck Месяц назад

      Sorry, my English isn't that good. What I mean is, when you said "changing the Sennheiser sound to another sound", it sounds like you used different kinds of mics to record it. How did you change the sound, it's like magic 😅 did you always record with multiple mics at the same time? and also i wanna ask, for specific field recordings like ocean waves, rain, birds, forest, do I need to use different types of mics? Is a shotgun mic enough for that? im using rode videomic ntg. Thank you so much

    • @JonasFasching
      @JonasFasching Месяц назад

      Ah I understand. Yes i was recording with multiple mics and devices and then i just edit the audio in my video editing software „Adobe Premiere“ and cut it together how i want. About the situation you describe i would recommend some kind of stereo setup. Stereo recording is a big upgrade especially for ambience sounds. If you use a shotgun mic all sounds will remain in the center, and you will not have any sounds on the sides. So shotgun mics are especially good for recording voices or isolated sound effects.

    • @tamheck
      @tamheck Месяц назад

      @@JonasFasching wow that's sounds good, is there any recommendations for good stereo mic especially for field recording?

    • @JonasFasching
      @JonasFasching Месяц назад

      I can only recommend you what i am using. So the microUši by LOM are really nice and easy to set up and carry. And i also use the Røde M5 but for that you need a tripod, a stereobar and xlr cables so more to setup. And using a simple handheld recorder is always a good option. For that I am using the Zoom H5.

    I’ve got the mke200 but really don’t like how quiet it is. On the iPhone even bumping the gain in app, it’s still just so quiet

      Totally relatable. The upgrade to the VideoMic NTG was absolutely worth it. Now after using it for 4 month I can say it is worth every penny. And a huge upgrade for not so much more money. I think a good mic will definitely upgrade every video setup, and the NTG was a great choice for me.
