We were on a 3.80 pass here, but spun the tires hard on the top end and had to lift. This was the first round of qualifying. We made it with this one shot at a 4.01, which was good enough for number 3 in the B field. Enjoy!

I hope this comment makes it to the driver/owner. I'm 68 now but in the late sixties early seventies my dad took me to Capitol raceway in crofton MD and buds Creek/MIR now and I absolutely fell in love with the original I guess Rat Poison altered! At 12-14 years old man,the paint job heck everything about that little monster is something I can see right now in my memory! Thank you for the incredible life long memories!! Sincerely George.. What's taken off the engine and shown to the driver just before the run?
He is showing the driver that he's removed the throttle stop from the linkage allowing him to go full throttle !
That chaise was set up perfect, straightest run I have ever seen! I can't remember the car's name or the driver's name, he would race with one hand on the side of the body. It was a hand full to keep it straight!
I believe you might be talking about Wild Willy,he always drove with one hand! Had a big wing on the back of his altered.
I fondly remember Rat Poison from Rockingham Dragway nearly 50 yrs ago. Is this the same crazy bunch? It appears y'all got better with age.

Altered? Altered from what? Besides a funny car, I mean.
The “Fuel Altered” class name has been around since the 60’s. Our car has never been anything but that. Never a funny car.
No nitro just alcohol I thinks not sure on that though Don't forget no aero either That thing stuck Well done nice drive
@@andrewk7731Refers to the seat being in the middle I think. Comes from the days when they used to “alter” a chassis.
The altereds were around long before there were funny cars . They were way too Altered to fit in the stock or gasser classes , so they became their own class .

Ah, I understand, I've never observed that happening. Even fighter jets have the chicken switch relatively close to the Fun switch. Well anyway, glad that you weren't injured and that your whip wasn't smoked. I'm entertained more when there aren't crashes and fires and grenaded dragsters. I like the raced about one driver beating another because of reaction time and ability to keep traction and both drivers reaching the finish line intact
