Whilst on a camping trip to the Lakes I had a spill on Dot the Himalayan. I had a bit of a tumble crossing a flooded road and broke my leg and ankle. I think it's healing well.

i know exactly what you mean about the signage for places, it can be a little annoying, i find the same when im also looking for a bench or rock to have a sit down on and a flask, you always spot them too late and don't want the hassle of turning round twice on a narrow lane, but hey-ho !!. anyways, you had a decent little adventure, good weather and a few stories to tell, and i found a cpl places to possibly stay at should the need arise, so thanks and GL

I didn't fancy taking my brand new bike down the forest drive, i wasn't too sure what to expect, so took the alternate route to Keilder via chesters & saughtree which takes you down some great roads that you will no doubt know, but it's on my list for future, maybe on my older bike, as are a few other roads i fancy doing in the area. I honestly believe that there's certain things in life where you should always buy the best and comfiest no matter the cost, (and maybe figure how to pay later lol), and footwear is one. This is borne by my lifelong hassle getting them to fit my deep and extra wide feet. A good pair can last decades, and the measure is that you don't even notice when wearing them, wheras ones that aint quite right give you a constant reminder. I have had a pair of altberg walking boots for 8 years, still good as new, & after trying on dozens of pairs of motorbiking boots at places like SBS, paid another visit to Richmond for a fitting & bought a pair of altberg Hogg motorbiking boots. At £330 for the special XW size and a 16 week wait, it's a fair chunk of time and money and a bit of an intake of breath, but i doubt i'll ever need to buy another pair, so well worth it. I didn't try on the oxfords, but they look good quality, so hope you get good long service out of 'em. Cheers

I did the 250 starting on 2nd Jun, riding from home to start at Rookhope via barnard castle and stanhope similar to yourself. I stayed at the Masons arms in Norham overnight, then back to allenheads and home the next day via St Johns chapel then middleton for a total of 497 mainly enjoyable miles in the 2 days which flew by even though i wasn't gunning it, although i did run short of juice when i reached otterburn so had to double back and go 8 miles to Bellingham to be safe, as some locals told me there was'nt anywhere else near, but hey-ho lesson learned. I know what you mean about those sheep, so annoying !! even when you beep your horn when getting close they just look at you funny and carry on eating in the middle of the road as you crawl past. If i was designing the route, i would'nt do so much on the A68, id pick a few more lanes, as there was a fair bit of traffic when i was there probably because it was a nice day and a sunday, but at least the sun was shining and the scenery great. Nice to see it from someone else's perspective, i'll keep an eye out for the next one, and mark the gun down as a possible stayover for future, looks great. GL and thanks.

I recently traded my HD RoadGlide for a Triumph Tiger and made the switch to a modular helmet. I wound up getting an LS2 Valiant 2 and I absolutely love the way the chin guard rolls to the rear of the helmet b/c I prefer to ride open face with the clear visor down. Having the option to roll the chin guard forward for cold or rainy conditions and use it as full face helmet is pure genius in design. I can’t understand why everyone who prefers a modular design isn’t going out and buying an LS2. The other thing which I think they did well with the LS2 was design the visor to engage a detente that leaves a small gap for air flow when the visor is down. This is the most bullet proof way to ensure the visor stays clear even in the most adverse riding conditions.

funnily enough i went through pickering yesterday as part of a 195mile day out including pickering-newton-egton-then had to detour round the stonegate-danby section coz of a road closure i couldnt pass like i did on the pickering-newton section, but took in westerdale-ingleby-chop gate-swainby, all in lovely sunshine. I love this part of the world especially the moors like around the top of rosedale chimney, which i aint done this year yet, but last year had a bit of an issue going up it on the last 1:3 bend on my 125 when i got spat off dropping into 1st & wheeieing coz the poor bike struggled to lug my 19st frame up it lol, but shouldnt be a prob this year on my bigger bike. keep uploading the vids coz it's great to see bits i recognise lol, thanks.

I was thinking of maybe combining your route from stonegate to egton/egton bridge and then down the lane through stape onto pickering, then back through the vale of york, instead of heading north, as it's a road i havent done since the 70's when cycling lol & can't remember it. just to let you know i've been exploring some of the the roads you mentioned (twice) in the last few weeks, always good to take a new route, and yesterday did bear off at houlsyke (i missed the left turning onto the moor coz i thought it looked like a driveway, and only when i looked later on google earth did i realise my mistake lol. there was a pretty unmaintained narrow turning left turning back on itself before said junction, which i didnt fancy so thought better of it), so went through glaisdale and then headed off down into pickering from egton bridge through stape, what a superb road that is over the moors, especially the first part. twas a lovely warm day with sun for most of it, and i'll add what i missed plus a few other roads to my collection when im next up there soon.
