Best Tactical Carry Pistol? FN 509c Tactical Test and REVIEW
I have done every one of these things. My best purchase was ammo and a range membership
Yessir!
If you finish a year with anything other than ammo at the top of your shooting budget, it better be your first year, or you’re probably not getting better. Buy ammo.
Yessir!
I like the idea of the “blindfold test” to pick a handgun, however, I thought my PDP felt amazing but the shooting experience was just not great for me.
Sometimes it feels right, but doesn’t shoot right. The PDP is a very different experience, especially compared to the S2 and DWX or any 2011 or all steel gun for that matter. The steel pdp does shoot MUCH less erratic than the polymer. I know what you mean, I still love my pdp. But I know what you mean
@ the steel is definitely tempting…stability of a S2 without double action seems pretty sweet!
I was going to shoot this match last year. I should have. My first level 2 was indiana sectionals last year. Big time hooked on the major matches now.
Majors are a blast!
@ATexCate indiana sectionals are at my local home club this year. Come on out!
No lies were told
Completely agree yet I will say my Cylee wolf pro is running on par with my holosuns. Of course they aren’t replacing that next level up yet the manufacturing and whatnot with these smaller brands are narrowing the gap imo.
Yep...We are all sick and I like it
Outstanding advice!
Even after knowing exactly the division you want to be in and think the choice fits...check the weight of every little thing including every screw and even the optic's battery.
For IDPA definitely!
Tip #1 is huge! great video!
Father in law bought me this xl750 for Christmas. Huge upgrade from the rcbs single stage. Love the close up views. The dillon video is great but no close ups to see everything.
Thanks for watching and congrats on the press my friend. Happy to help!
i think holosun has really upgraded their quality and to their defense my comp is still running after 12k rounds over 1.5 years on two different guns while my SRO failed after my first 2k rounds and first competition with it. Its all anecdotal but i dont think youre getting more when you pay more when you compare holosun to trijicon but trijicon has its name and reputation while holosun gets a bad rep for being chinese.
As someone who has worked on alot of competition firearms I agree with everything in this video. Its good to see solid info out here and not someone trying to sell bs to unknowing people. Keep it up
thanks for the tips mate !!
You might have added for most people the lockjaws might not be for you
Absolutely No need. That’s for you to figure out for yourself! This isn’t a what grip to choose video! And as you saw, gridloks were mentioned just the same.
think your right on point , i have biggest gains by actual shooting , another gain is reloading the ammo , as a long time reloader i have the equipment and know how to do it so no money added there , found reloads much better than factory as recoil goes , as far as accuracy factory ammo is quite good , large savings with reloads translates to more shooting . been shooting glocks and its fun trying to shoot matches when everyone there has a better gun than me , think using a lesser gun help build skills if your in it for fun and get to pull the trigger as much as posable
It’s always something to be said at a match when a newer shooter shows up with an atlas, infinity, or related. And you hear “someone is still gonna whoop you with a glock” 😂 so I absolutely agree with that haha I like to show up to IDPA with a stock PDP against everyone with Comped stacattos and atlas’ and lay hate.
Savings in 9mm? What volume per year? What press do you maintain? EDIT: .40 or .38 super?
Compared to .40 or .38 super. A ridiculous amount of savings. Incomparable. Easily double and then some.
@@ATexCate I forgot that you guys dropped .40 like rollerblades back in the day. Still used a lot in ipsc here. Just trying to make sense of the reply. You save more money reloading 9mm luger than .38 super while cheap factory 9mm is at 24 cents a round? Casting bullets and coating them?
@@onpsxmember I load 9mm @ .17 per round here. plated. 40 here is very expensive you're looking at .30/round
If i could start over i would get two CZ P10F. Two SRO. And a GX holster. Ive never shot the same gun more than a entire season.
Being I know the guns you’ve ran through too that’s saying something! (For reference to anyone reading this, my friend here has gone to DWX route all the way up to MPA 2011’s for USPSA and I’ve now watched him go back to a plastic fantastic (or it might be the steel frame) for CO just as fast)
@@ATexCate and a few others along the way. Think I'm finally settled heading into my fourth season. MPA DS9 LOC V2 for limited optics. and Walther SF for carry optics.
I’m ready to give the DS9 a run myself. And let my shadows become CO guns
Solid advice.
If I’m a proficient novice. What would happen if I built a gun even before shooting it? Just learn the modded gun from the ground up?
I wouldn't recommend building anything before you've broken it in on stock parts as I stated in the video, I put 3-5000 rounds on a platform before I start building it. otherwise there is no true way of knowing or tracking what im actually improving with the build, rather just throwing parts at it to make it "better" but again, compared to what (if you built it before even giving it ample opportunity white its stock). building is meant to enable you to tune it to your liking, you can't very well do that if you never knew what it felt like without it in the first place!
@ thank you sir
I threw a little money into a pistol. Put a lot of money into my reloading setup. I get a lot more shooting in and I have very precise ammo that functions exactly the way I want. Still kinda wish I had more gun though.
As somebody who’s been trying to get into IDPA and USPA for multiple years as a new shooter, GREAT VIDEO! You earned a subscribe
thanks for watching! glad it helped!
Trying to? Take the gear you habe and go to match!
New shooters shoot to have fun, the major flaw of USPA is they take all the fun out with complicated scoring and divisions that do not keep up with gun models being sold
To each their own. But I’ve been in it for years, even was a match Director. and never once saw someone have the fun taken away because of “rules”. 99% of rules are for safety. It is a freestyle sport! IDPA is the rule filled one my friend. scoring is simple, hit factor = points divided by time. its very very simple if you take a whole 10 minutes to understand it! I will have a video coming up soon to explain. also the division DO keep up, there are new division as of the last few years. id brush up on your research!
It's not complicated. I've never heard of anyone not shooting uspsa because scoring is too complicated. There's a division for basically every single gun. There's only 2 divisions that your gun must be on a list. The mistake you're making is thinking the gun is going to help you win or improve. You really sound like you have never shot a uspsa match. Or know anything about the rules scoring or divisions.
This was solid advice. When I started competing, the first pistol I used was the 320, which I already owned. I made only minor modifications, like changing the recoil spring and installing lighter trigger springs. When I decided to upgrade, I went with the PDP SF but maintained the same approach-just swapped the recoil spring and added new grips. Overall, great video!
I’ve been saying this for ages. People slate the cz shadow 2 compact. I shoot a competition and want to carry the closest to what I shoot. shadow 2 for competitive and shadow 2 compact for carry. Great video.🏆🏆🏆
How do you set up your camera like that to follow you? Pretty dope
Insta360 X4 360 Camera
Very helpful video! Do they sell those retention locks separately? I have a red hill tactical holster coming in without the locking mechanism
Not that I’m aware of no!
So I had a viewer message me with info on this. He made it work on his RHT using a 20mm lever version he purchased from Grainger! Said it only required a little trimming of the screw. So maybe give that a look!
Lucky 7s+M&P 2.0+apex trigger=💦💦
Small hands feels targeted 😒 😂
😂😂
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Good video thanks. Also avoid my problem don't be a gun whore or collector stick to 1 or 2 and get backups not new choices haha!
Alex, way to take all the fun out of competition shooting. How am I supposed to laugh ay my buddies Glocks if you stop him from messing with them?. I like many folks have done some or all of these things. Great video man thank for sharing!
😂 not all Heroes wear capes… 🤷🏻♂️ Hahaha Appreciate it brother!
I see more Glocks malfunction than any other handgun at matches. Even the ones that the shooter swears is 100% stock.
Yup! I’ve seen similar. But I’ve also shot on squad with Morgan Leonhardt and her dad at Handgun Nationals this past year (they shoot for Glock) and she killed it. No malfunctions over 18 stages! So I’ll give them that. But I’ve also seen the same as you just the same.
now thats a proffessor video
Thanks for watching! 🙌🏽
Underrated channel. Keep it up.
Appreciate it my friend! I will.
Yea... I'm gonna buy one.
Oh crap… I’m supposed to train 😮
Once in a blue moon
Thanks for the video sir!
My pleasure!
Finally! Great informative video. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
What mag are you using that holds 23 rounds?
Rune tactical spring and follower + a +5 basepad
@ATexCate thanks bud!
Damit!! Never thought about putting a wall in the house! Got targets everywhere now I gotta have a wall... Thanks😂
PVC baby! can take it apart and make it 8ft if I want! modular wall!
I had double feeds for several times per stage on yesterday's competition. I still want to isolate what's going on, I will try different approaches to narrow it down. I will definitely try this approach also.
So far 13/14 people who have taken the time to get back with me and let me know their results, have claimed this fixed their problem. Hopefully it's as simple as this for you as well my friend. The one Outlier was due to his extractor spring being so full of garbage, the extractor pretty much wasn't moving.
@ATexCate I will definitely let you know. I made a complete list of things I want to test and I will let you know if this the case or something else. First I thought it was ammo and spring, since I use factory S&B 124, and PPU worked. Than I put softer spring and it still doesn't work. Have you tried just oiling that part of barrell? I am thinking to spray WD40 just on that part to see if it works. But that will be my last test before I clean up and polish that part. How did you come up with that idea anyway? Just a blind guess or particular way of thinking? Btw, I've subscribed.
I worked in aerospace for many years so understanding metallurgy and mechanical mechanism was part of that job. It wasn’t a blind guess by any means. I dissected exactly how the case was acting coming out (through slow mo video) and went from there. Before ever replacing a part, I always inspect the current parts and put efforts into taking time to return them to their original form when the firearm WORKED ie. cleaning it like brand new. I would not recommend spraying it with WD40 as that will ad thickness and possibly make the problem worse. Get out all the carbon first, and there’s never a need to lube the chamber. Kind of like unplug it and plug it back in. Try Resetting it before going to replacing parts. Once that worked I also filed .002 off the contact face of the extractor just to get a little bit farther of an ejection pattern per my personal wants. But most people when cleaning their gun, don’t actually clean it 100%. Carbon continues to build in those area until a problem is created.
OK, so I've tried several things yesterday on the range. I have failure to extract only on S&B ammunition. Same ammunition works on my buddy's compact Shadow, on my P10F. My Shadow 2 works flawlessly with PPU and Fiocchi. Go figure. My coach today told me he has two Shadow 2s. One works flawlessly with everything. Second one works only with PPU. Go figure now
@@ATexCatecan you please mske a video how you polish the chamber? Do you polish only feed ramp or inside the barrel. Mind you, I am not a native English native speaker, so I am not 100 percent familiar with all the terms and meanings. Do you polish only feed ramp?
Question . Where’s your round count and did you run into any issues ? I’m thinking about running one of these in limited optics and wondering if it will hold up to a high round count .
Around 10k. Ran it at multiple USPSA Majors and locals. Never had any mechanical issues of any kind. It can definitely take the round count.
@ you still running it ?
Yes
Mine has been fine. All thought the screws that came with the mekanik MO3 red dot did back out.. but I bought some permatex and haven’t had any issues issue out of it after that. 2 failure to ejects in the first 50 rounds. 1 caused by my buddy limp wristing with one hand. But that’s it. Shooting 115 fmj Winchester
What grips and magwell as well as extension to you use
Lokgrips LokJaws and Lokgrips gridlock TS series Magwell! Code “TEX10”
will not be buying the canik to many problems too risky of a buy not worth it
Wait a minute ....is this at Oakland?
That grip looks really cool.
Lokgrips Gridlok! (code: TEX10)
Can this gun be an EDC?
Absolutely.
BEAUTIFUL 😍😮
great job explaining! thank you!
My pleasure
What mag is that
If you mean what magazine Extension. We used both hennings and taran tacticals.
