Runrig - Clash of the Ash (Glasgow Barrowlands '09)
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.15 лет назад
Runrig performing Clash of the Ash as part of their encore at the Barrowlands in Glasgow, 4th December 2009. Video was taken on mobile phone using the girlfriend's head as a stand so can be a bit shaky at times. Notice how Bruce misses the first few lines of the song and has to be bailed out by Rory.

And that is why the mighty Atlantic spits this damn water without whisky into your eye until you wish you were in the sahara, not to and froing your brogues to the market with the help of your donkey Rainbow

Wow beautiful and bruce is amazing thst voice ❤❤
Heartbroken at Bruce passing away. He sang this at the first Runrig concert I attended, he was brand new to the band and so was I. I fell in love with the song. Later, I sang this to my daughter when I was pregnant with her, and then when she was a baby. She is now 24 years old and Bruce is no longer with us. Rest in peace, you talented man. X
What a stunning vocal melody. Utterly sublime

If Scotlands weather was better Scotland would definitely be the most beautiful country In the world
Regardless of the mother land's nature weather Scotland countryside, the hills and mountains still sacred to those who call them Scottish, and true highlander's, sorry but to judge one's country by it's weather is like judging the people from the past to her future

Sorry guys, but I'd like you to help me with; "One from the late run rolled up in a coat". What does late run mean in this context? What is a late run?. I'm from Argentina and I've loved this song for ages, but couldn't grasp this line. Thanks in advance!
Hola, Luis - I'm a Californian so I don't know the answer to your question, but I found this when I googled "late run" and "Skye." As you probably know, Stornoway is on Skye, so maybe "late run" refers to the last bus of the day. "Buses of Skye and the Western Isles - Google Books Result books.google.com/books?isbn=1445622971 John Sinclair - 2014 - Transportation Having arrived at its stance in Stornoway on a Saturday in August 1972, it is about to return to Ranish at 9 a.m., with further journeys at 1.15, 6.15 and the late run at 11 p.m."
wrong blud, it's about poaching a salmon from the river, the late run is from the second (night time) high tide when the salmons can come up the river from the sea.
The song is about the Land League Movement of the late 1800s, culminating in the Land Reform Act of ‘84, which brought security of land tenure to Highland crofters (small farmers). The movement was mainly led by the Skye ‘Martyr’ (imprisoned not killed!), John MacPherson, and his friends from Glendale, as well as others, and led to Skye becoming a no-go-zone for police for a very tense period, even resulting a naval gunship being sent to Glendale. Some consider the resulting legislation, under UK Prime Minister William Gladstone, as the final ending to the Highland Clearances which had begun more than a century before with the systematic breaking up and scattering abroad of Highland communities; hence the words, “... I can believe that it’s taking all this time ... after the clans, after the clearings, here I am recovering.”
@@alistairmatheson4964 Thankyou yes... Recovery after the Highland Clearances.😌 God Bless All. 🏴💙🦢💙🏴
Beautiful
Runrig have been my favourite band since I saw them at the Loch Lomond concert in the early 1980's. I think that Runrig have had a very important role to play in the raising of Scottish pride. As a radio presenter, whenever I play Runrig on my shows I always get phone calls asking who was that band. I have even organised radio station listeners trips to see the band when they have been touring.
The Loch Lomond concert was in 1990 or 9.They went a bit stale after that in my humble opinion, I heard them at the Barrowlands in 1985 and again in1986 when they were at their peak.
