Simply put, I love to have fun doing stuff outdoors, mostly in the water🤙. Fishing, surfing, and foiling just to name a few. Based in the Cayman Islands 🇰🇾.
Surf Foiling the superbank : 8 minutes of downwind fun
First time doing this run. The waves and bumps look a lot smaller from the 360 camera. waves were around knee to waist and the wind bumps were small but enough to get a quick glide. Although I am doing a lot of pumping, I really wasn't tired at the end, most of the pumping was to keep up my speed on the waves and bumps. I bet a higher aspect front wing would require less pumping to stay gliding on the waves and bumps. It ended up being a full 30 minute walk back up to the top.

WingFoiling Seven Mile Beach || Cayman Islands

Light onshore winds (~10kts) made for a good session with my new 7'7" downwind style board and my 6m wing. (I will be posting the build video of the board shortly so subscribe if you want to see that). Seven mile beach doesn't often have any waves or onshore wind but when it does, it can be wingfoil paradise because there is no barrier reef and the water is clear and warm. Filmed by Soloshot3

Adding Volume to my Wing Foil Board

As I said in the video, I decided to glue some more foam to the back of the board because i mounted the tracks a little bit too far back. I also had some water in the board because i did not install a vent plug so cutting the tail off allowed me to drain out the water quickly. Thank you for watching
How to Repair a Chip in your Foil
Просмотров 51611 месяцев назад
This is how I repair larger chips on my foil. I do not bother filling in smaller scratches because they don't seem to effect the performance all that much. The chip I fixed in this video also doesn't seem to effect the performance all that much but I like to fill them in just to make sure. If you have any tips on repairing scratched/chipped foils, please share in the comments! thanks for watching

The 1030 is a weapon!
@@TheMitchell898 sure is!
Great reuse of material for the body of the wingboard.
Where did you get the tracks?
@@johnathanpressler1761 I think it was Amazon. If not, search for surf board building supplies near you, green light surf supply in USA, sanded.com.au in Australia…
18 is a lot of wraps. The last few didn't look like they cinched down. The knot may have started unravelling as the flouro stretched.
@@hokanut didn’t show it on camera but that wasn’t the case. Snapped at the knot as usual.
Nice vid. Are you happy with the Axis mast and wings? I’ve been looking at them for my own SUP surf foil
@@commanderkeeno5552 thanks, yes I’ve been riding axis for about a year and not changing anytime soon. One of the best foil brands for sure.
Try six hundred
What did you do for the plastic/Rubber piece that broke off? How do you tighten the bolt now ? the wrench?
@@music-jj2pl yeah just used some vice grips to tighten it.
Thanks for the awesome video! - I am undertaking a similar project too, and I am trying to gauge the quantity of material I will need. Would you mind telling me how much resin you ended up using on this board?
@@j4rv12 I think it was about half a gallon.
If a line labeled as #15 pound test breaks at #20 of pressure it is not good #15 test it is #20 test.
@@markmartin6365 you’d be surprised. There are a handful of brands on the market that break well over their breaking strain. This is why many are using the PE system because the breaking strain is no longer the actual breaking strain.
if the knot breaks then the knot is faulty
@@lurkingarachnid7475 ok so what knot will give you more than the breaking strain of the line? FG is one of the strongest and slimmest knots for connecting braid to Fluoro.
@@watermancallum double albright or alberto. what's the poinst of the test, though? are you testing the line breaking strength or the knot strength? just wrap 10-15 wraps around a dowel or something and forego the knots and then test it like that. no knots to weaken the line
@@schlomoshekelstein908 purpose was to test the useable breaking strain. I guess it would be better to test both the actual breaking strain with no knots as well but the quality of a line is also in the ability to hold knots. Overall this is still a great line for the price.
Fantastic! Thanks
Finally the DIY community comes to foiling
Not a good test. Your knot was insufficient.
What knot would be sufficient?
@@watermancallum there is actually a special machine that is used to test the breaking lb test strength of lines. Knots themselves can actually weaken lines. Over at the hull truth forum someone tested 30lb test 4 strand hercules braid on a line test machine and it broke at 40 lbs. The fact is that pe (polyethylene) braid first has to have it's diameter measured to make sure it fits the proper diameter for what it's rated at. As long as that matches up properly it should meet a certain rating. It's then put on one of the line breaking machines which pulls at a constant force until it breaks. It has to meet or exceed the minimum force for it's diameter. After several tests the average is calculated and that tells you if it's a quality line or not. That of course is the ideal lab test not everyone can do. From a couple reviews I've read, the hercules strength exceeds that of powerpro, and is on par with j braid. I wish someone would rank the budget brands of braid and mono as well as the expensive name brands and publish a chart showing the best options for inexpensive, mid priced, and premium priced lines.
@@StingofTruth very interesting. I did this test with a leader tied on with an fg not because I wanted to test how much pressure it could take as if I was hooked up to a fish.
That’s how I make my Boogie Boards!!! Nice!!! From Recycled Soft tops!! Nice Job!!
Where can I see your Boogie Boards? I want to do same!
@@lemonyellow3117 I actually did a little short on it when I finished it completely. Earlier this past Summer. Started number two now!
So, follow up on how was the line would you recommend it?
have had only a handful of sessions on it but it casts pretty good, ties knots well. if somebody were to tell me that it was a big name brand id believe it.
Use this brand a lot. There 50 Ib braided had a 70 Ib shark 🦈
That's irrelevant. Your rod and the clutch on the reel plays a big part
Where on the island was this
How many strands 4,8,12?
this is the 4
I use the 12 strand braid it’s smooth
Dorisea far better for price
Fantastic, congrats! I started fly fishing for trout, like many, in the Rockies, where I live. Just got into the salt a couple years ago. Obviously I have to travel, and it's all been guided. Want to come to the Caymans. There's a couple of sections of flats right? What area do you suggest for a tourist, where I can maybe go out for a couple days on my own? I'm sure I'll be staying around the 7 mile beach area, but always love getting away from the crowd.
yes there are a handful of bonefishy areas that are accessible on foot. The south side of the island is usually best as the wind typically blows from the north east. If there is a strong southerly wind, you can fish the north side. You will want to rent a car to get to these spots though. Google maps is very useful. Look out for "beach access" signs along the side of the road that mark the public access points to the shoreline. You can also fish on seven mile, the early morning being the best time as there are less people.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your response, I know most fisherman are hesitant, me as well, that's why I didn't ask for specifics. That's also what I was thinking, drive around and any "public access" spots should be ok? There seems to be a lot of private beach on G.C. but it did look on Google earth like there are some decent flats accessible from public spots. I like the idea too of hitting some of those canals for tarpon. There's a lot of those running along roads you can just pull over to? @@watermancallum
@@jefferywheaton40 yeah there are some canals that have little tarpon in them but they can be hit or miss, there are less canals then there used to be unfortunately.
Pls continue the fishing vids 😭
Grest job man! Im surprised you didn't need to add some kind dowels to give strength to the joins. How to has it held out in use?
yeah the fiberglass I used +carbon strips gives the board plenty of stiffness and strength. Ive had maybe 25-30 ish sessions ranging from 30 min to 2 hours of riding. Still feels just as stiff and responsive as my full carbon FFB board.
Thanks for the inspiration.
do you fish with subscribers?
Great fight . .great video ❤
Future career as double for Tom Cruiz.
Awesome footage and great job on that fight. That your largest caught down there? Bravo.
Great skills ! 😊👍
A true artist. Like all your ideas! More fun than buying one.
Nice job! Why not to install the plugs before lamination? Water in board without plug means that there is some leak. It is not practically possible to completely dry the foam through vent even during whole winter. I hope you dried it week or two after you cut the stern off. Now, having the plug you can find cracks and leaks gently pumping air into the vent and splaying the board with soap-bubble water. I hope. It may be not possible though. You glued new foam with layer of Gorilla glue. This can seal and isolate back part from the main part. You can still find leaks placing the board on sun and splay with soap, let it heat a little bit and when air will start flow out, you will see the leaks.
Nice comment, that answer a few questions I was wondering!
what was the crab fly they we're preferring?
Another nice video. Where on the island were you fishing? We visit a couple times per year. Thanks in advance...
update on this board, I added some volume to the tail end and installed a vent plug. Heres the video: ruclips.net/video/_ff8kXGk4ow/видео.html
My daughter has been living in GC for 20 years. I just started fly fishing a couple of years ago and haven’t caught anything yet in GC. She lives in South Sound now and I’m heading there for December. Have you ever fished and had any luck in South Sound
Yeah I’ve fished south sound a fair few times over the years. It can be good but nowadays there are a lot of areas in the sound that are not accessible by foot due to big houses and apartment condos being built but definitely worth a shot if it’s not super windy. Make sure to have some small baitfish imitations as well as shrimp patterns. Those patterns catch everything in the shallows.
@@watermancallum thanks man for the info, maybe I will see you on the water in December.
That was sick! Great job. Was that downtown GT?
Where did you get the awesome traction pad? Aloha and Adios
I got it on Amazon. Thanks for watching👍
Word of warning: Styrofoam can be extremely damaging to your health. Especially in the amounts and finely sanded particles as in this video. Better not to go anywhere near that stuff.
Сложно ли плавать таким способом?
did you not have it after the first false cast?
I wish they made their boards shorter and wider for more stability.
Yeah it is unfortunate that they only have two sizes but I find the width perfect. Any wider and it would be harder to paddle.
Goodnight! How did you make the resin thicker to glue the rails? I'm doing a plank but I'm afraid to let go
I used fast cure epoxy, no additives to make it thicker. The fiberglass cloth holds the resin nicely. Still had a lot of resin drip down but plenty of resin saturated in the cloth made for a good lamination.
thank you 🙏@@watermancallum
What size mast, fuse, and rear wing?
75cm mast, standard ultrashort fuse and 350 progressive
Nice
its very difficult!🤣🤪🌊🛹
Your board turned out sweet! I'm building my first wing foil board, and I used the exact same blue camo grip on my dock start board that you used, which will also go on the wing foil board! Small world!
epic! thanks for watching
Nice little tarpon
The resin will NOT stick to the paint and the paint will not stick to the resin under the paint. This is the lamest board build ever ~ Just throw the video away and don't ever show it. I want my 5 minutes back !
ThankYou. I had not heard of trans fluid and acetone. Usually penetrene works however willntry Your idea 🦘👍
Yeah penetrating spray was the first thing I grabbed, sprayed it on the threads and let it soak for a day but it was still really stiff. Thanks for watching 🤙
fantastic. i might give it a go with my old sup. Why do people use a vacuum bag sometimes?
I think vacuum bagging gets an overall better lamination. I’m sure there’s other benefits too but I’ve never really looked into because it costs more.
