One thing I miss desperately about 70's/80's movies, it was working class people being represented realistically in a major studio movie. I wish Studios would split their budgets for once today, instead of making another Star Wars or Deadpool, produce 5 low budget movies with unknown great actors and a brilliant tight script. These are the types of films people remember in 40yrs because they can relate to it and why they become classics.

All these formats are making such a resurgence! Why can’t laserdisc? They did make players until 2009!

Laserdisc ROCKS!

This was a pivotal movie in not just my life… but my little brother! We saw this movie for the first time on beta! I have since grabbed it on dvd of course… but after that I grabbed it on laserdisc! My absolute favorite format to watch it on !!!!

That’s the best movie I ever seen is so romantic at the end when he carries her off from everybody and just picks her up, carries her in his arms that officer had on her head strong man just carries her, comes to her work, carries her off into his arms from all her friends I always dream of that moment and the song was so perfect so romantic the way he just picked her up and carried her her friends and family and everybody I would love that that shows how strong and amazing person he is who does that anymore? I was so romantic gesture to be carry off like that just came and picked her up and taking mine. That’s my woman so that gives me every time.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍✌️💕😇😄👍💪👏

One of my favorite movies all time. I'm from Arkansas and in 2005, I went on a west coast motorcycle ride for a month and stopped in Port Townsend to see some of the places where the movie was filmed. Rest in peace Lou!

Louis Gossett Jr. RIP sir he was the movie just a heck of a job.

As an extra a couple of nice memories. One: I got to meet Mr Gossett. Two: they wanted to see how fast someone could run the entire obstacle course. I was the test dummy. Trouble is I ran it way too fast. I had to time it like it was being filmed. That took some doing, but got it done. P.S. Mr Gossett was an awesome man.

I was 17 when I first watched this movie and I'm 59 now. I must have watch this movie 100 times. Gunnery Sergeant Foley Lou Gosset Jr. best performance ever, I don't think even Jack Nicholson can do any better.

This film was shoot partly in the philippines. It was the time when cheap movies with little known actors then was film in the philippines who went on to become famous actors, like burt reynolds and chuck norris to name a few

Lou Gossett Jr. as the drill instucter has a karate 🥋 fight with Richard Gere. He helped to beat the the lost of his best friend in the movie. Rest in Peace to a great warrior in this movie.

I look at the Richard Gere character taking his tattoo off wanted to be an officer. Look at the tattoos now in 2024.

The Simpson's show with Homer walking into his wife's work carry her out like Officer and Gentlemen. It was a wonderful movie.

It's amazing NAS Pensacola didn't cooperate...... Ironic the girls worked in a paper mill (St. Regis) is in the movie and also in Pensacola.

During filming, some dear friends of mine invited the cast and support crew to a dinner at their old victorian house in PT (I was not there! drat!). Except for the major stars...my friends said that many showed up and honored them with their presence....you don't forget that.

Lou Gosset Jr. won the best supporting oscar for this in 1982. Well deserved win. RIP.

Had this movie been made today, I think it might have won best film. Richard Gere, has never won an Oscar. He has been nominated but never pulled it off. Now he is 74 I doubt that he ever will. He like Harrison Ford who was robbed of one for Witness , Gere missed out for Officer and a Gentleman. The Academy is too arbitrary by far.

I’ve literally seen this movie at least 100 times! It inspired me greatly. I first saw it when it came out while i was in high school. I graduated and became a Marine. Although i wasn’t an officer but having that respect and character has remained with me my whole life. Mayo had to learn what it took to be a member of a team, to think of and care about others than himself. He finally learned it. Rest in Peace Lou Gossett Jr. ( Gunny Foley)!
