Tried watching the video... yeah hes gotten worse. First 5 minutes, nothing actually about the topping of the video, but I'm glad he described playing mario and slapping walruses and included a visual segment depicting it. Really should rethink his beard too

@@LittleMushroomGuy I do have to give it to him, he's figured out a working strategy for his channel, something I'm still lurching towards. (don't worry, I'm not about to copy him. ;-) )

@nikkeiputter That's true, except if one does not want to play against the new flash it requires cooperation from the rest of the table. I think I'd have a hard time getting the lads I play with to try Old School or Premodern, but its worth talking it over.

I would have to agree with this. As a player of less than a year, who just recently is getting out of magic as a whole it’s gotten way too bad. I love watching Wubby but as a commander player I found a lot of joy in watching channels like Command Zone, Commander at home, EDHijinks, Play to win, and so many more channels I relatively found a deep understanding of the game quickly from them and their perspectives. I never really referred to Wizards or Hasbro and have always thought of them as a corporation who prints expensive Chase cards to keep players addicted. They don’t really care about any of the formats or the players as a whole and we always have to remember that they’re a corporation. People often forget about the recent firings at WOTC and massive layoffs as a whole even thought the format has grown as a whole. Even with the firings of employees the select sector of Hasbro that is WOTC was the only one that generated a profit in that year. The game has a lot of flaws and is incredibly expensive. It becomes an arms race very quickly for people to get the best cards. I understand that proxy’s are a thing, but they weren’t accepted in the only playgroup I played with. I didn’t want to do magic online because I like playing the game with my friends who originally got me into the game. There’s a lot of reasons why I’ve slowly moved my collection and I will just continue to watch RUclips videos about it!

I totally agree that WOTC has to focus on the competition with Pokemon, FaB etc. This is especially important for new players. I believe that a release of Revised cards nowadays would not be sufficient to compete with Pokemon etc. There are also other whales out there buying vintage products. But only very few show this in the public. We should not start a Reserved List discussion. From my point of view, the Reserved List made old cards investible.

@LittleMushroomGuy I agree it looks like an amazing set, I'm just really deflated with the power creep and the sure knowledge its only going to get worse. One of the draws of EDH is it doesn't have to be a rotating format, but if I'm forced to keep tuning and changing my decks to keep up I might as well play Standard. That said, I'm considering trading in my 2 sealed draft boxes of Core21 for a box of Foundations, I am coming into the belief that no sets save those with reserved list or unique lottery cards (Amonkhet, Kaladesh) will have any real value, not the way old boxes used to. Power creep and reprints will kill them, I think. Figure I'd get more trade value for other cards I want from a fresh box of Foundations than 2 stale boxes of some Core set.

@keywacat Yes, the powercreep will continue to get worse. The same thing happened to Yugioh and Wizards have already started printing cards with anime art

@@keywacatFalling to the powercreep can be avoided by optimizing deck design, understanding what a card does in a deck compared to what it does individually. If the deck functions without the new cards I don't play them. For example they printed a new better sanguine bond in Duskmourn, and a new exquisite blood in foundations, classic lifegain two card combo, but still I don't have the need to take out the old ones. At least in this case it is a niche upgrade, sanguine 2 if it dies to creature removal it comes back, ok but it still dies to farewell or disenchant, and exquisite 2 is a creature. They also constantly print new better removals, but I still play vindicate and unmake for example. Other than just playing with the cards you already own haha I guess ignoring is the only other strategy, no other wisdom from me. afaik Pokemon avoided the problem of powercreep, they also avoided the need for promoting other IPs (in their game). Not sure if PKM is a rotating card game, but they focus more on new art (mtg failed at this imo) and new synergies (modern horizons 3 devoid went nowhere, and they brought it back from futuresight, I guess it is still not the right time) instead of printing just more powerful older versions, even tho there are ten versions of Charizard or what not

@LittleMushroomGuy Yep, yep, that's why I lost the debate. Though we could have 'rule zeroed' it and the other lads would be free to run that card themselves.

@LittleMushroomGuy Years ago I had a Prime Speaker Zegana deck and recall one game where I dug 30 cards deep (in batches) trying to find a counterspell (for exactly what I do not remember), with everyone just waiting with baited breath to see if I could find it and still have the mana to cast it.

@theinsanecourier1840 Cube was kind of surprised I run one in Kaervek, a two-colour deck.

@joeybergeron2346 I highly recommend Aluren in this sort of deck. 🙂 Aluren is why I did not build Chulane, with Aluren the deck becomes too easy to play, without Aluren I wouldn't want to play him.

@WadeDemoss In one of the early runs of Sakia tokens Cube's black / red Duskmourn precon got me down to 20 life in less than 9 turns. Running 10 shocks in this Reaper King build makes that sort of thing even worse. Hell, fetches and shocks are one of the reasons burn remains viable in Modern, yeah?

@theinsanecourier1840 Yeah, that's a combo I won't do, it doesn't feel right. Not that it stops Big Jimmy, he runs Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond in his Oloro deck and has no guilt whatsoever to tutor for either.

@jcstaff1007 I saw that though did not have time to thank you, let alone digest it and respond before popping out for a bit. Let me do that now... My first thought: WTF is a BENNIE BRACKS ZOOLOGIST? After looking it up on my LGS ordering page: WTF am I going to cut for Bennie?! Same applies to Tocasia's Welcome and Welcoming Vampire, though you did suggest some cuts for me to consider. That's the best bit there, help me with the hard choices. 🙂 About Lazotep Quarry, that art looks beautiful and I see how it fixes my mana, but do not see how its better for recursion than Volrath's Stronghold as the creature is exiled with Quarry. Am I missing something here? I do like Apothecary White, though she seems kind of clunky. As she's only 35czk I'll pick one up, see if she works in a deck smoother than my first read on her. You're the second man to say Generous Gift and Beat Within are better than Putrefy / Mortify, and its time to accept you're both right about it. If nothing else the colour requirements are easier, eh? Krenko is already in Aurelia, she has a heavy Goblin theme and I did not want Saskia to feel like 'Aurelia with extra colours', I'm trying for a unique identity. That leads me to Myrel, Shield of Argive (I really like her!), I'm glad you let me know she exists though she'd go into Aurelia, as Saskia only has 3 cards that generate soldiers and 2 of them are planeswalkers, which you recommend I cut. Calculating Lich is good for me as it encourages my opponents to attack each other, to get more damage in. I completely understand why you recommend Impact Tremors, but I think you skipped over why I cut Purphoros, that is not how I want to win, its just too easy. Something very hard to properly convey and quantify is that we do not play in the same groups. The lads I play with will almost always attack a player unless a given planeswalker is close to going off and doing something nasty or one of the abilities is irritating a particular player. That leads into why I have the sub-optimal Clarion Spirit, and why I am thinking of adding Jolrael, Mwonvuli Recluse to the deck. I need early creatures, I need to do more than ramp with my low-CMC spells. Both times I was blown out playing Saskia the main cause was my failure to have any sort of meaningful board presence. Clarion Spirit is REALLY hit or miss, but it hits enough to get me through until other cards come online. In conclusion I thank you for giving me so much to think about, I'll be modding this deck a lot more before the next game. Cheers for it. 👍

@LittleMushroomGuy Cheers for it, I registered for Cardtrader and will investigate it further. Reminds me that 20 years ago(!) I used to love trading on MOTL, Magic Online Trading League (www.magictraders.com/). It was great, find cards people wanted, lock in a trade deal and mutually send the cards being traded. I think it kind of died, though that could just be my incorrect impression.
