I love the "extended warranty on your hf radio".
Haha, right? Gotta love that extended warranty! It’s like having a safety net for your radio adventures!
You guys got some good participation on the 6 meter net! What kind of antenna did you string up? Thanks for the video. 73 - KB1LQX
We used a Buddie Pole Pro Vertical. Next time were going to bring a wire and the vertical and an a/b switch for different polarization's.
Thanks for creating some 6 meter activity and sharing the experience with us! We have a decent amount of local activity on 6m here in Southern New England - glad to see others using the band!
Awesome to hear! 6m is where the fun’s at-let’s keep the good times and signals coming!
Thank you for all your help Eric such an awesome video ✌️
No problem! Glad you liked it! Always here to help out! 😊
Can the mad dog 80 coil work on 6 meters?
The mad dog just like other verticals can be used on 6m however you’ll find that you will get better swr and use using a base and the 117” whip. As you’ll normally have the coil bypassed to achieve 6m.
@@N1JUR I have the 80 coil with two collars and a CHA Ss17 whip. How would I set those up for 6 meters? Do I need to remove both collars?
Thanks for this comparison. I just ordered the bug out so that little tip about the height of the feed point will be a good thing to experiment with!
Sweet! You're gonna love the bug out. That height tip is a game changer-can't wait to hear how it works out for you!
Don't forget to use Code: N1JUR for 10% off and free shipping at checkout!
Eric it was great running into you @ HamXposition, wish I had more time to chat with you. ( I was the tall bearded guy wearing the “Live Free and Ham “ shirt) . If you ever activate POTA on Cape Cod lunch is on me.
Great to see you too, Mr. Tall Bearded Ham! Next time, let’s make sure to schedule some serious "ham" time. And lunch on Cape Cod? I’ll bring the radios!
I've got cases that I bought that I ruined the pick foam. Great solution so I can repurpose those cases. I'll borrow your cut kit, lol. Thanks for sharing.
Borrow away! Just remember, with great cutting power comes great responsibility! 😄
@@N1JUR lol. I'll use the force to protect my digits
Very cool system! Thanks for sharing, 73!
I'm glad you think it's cool! Always happy to share insights that can help others.
Thanks. Good info. I've been using closed cell white polyethylene leftovers. Got a stash from BIL when he did a large solar project. You can dumpster dive and find them discarded at HD, Lowes, Bestbuy etc. Also pool noodles work pretty well. $1.25 at Dollar tree.
I'm glad you found the info helpful! Those closed cell polyethylene leftovers are a great resource. Recycling materials is such a smart way to save money and be eco-friendly!
Excellent. I always end up spraying the pick and pluck foam to make it last longer, but you are still limited to the size of the foam blocks. The Kaizen foam looks like a great solution. Thanks.
Sounds like you’ve been giving that pick and pluck foam some serious love! But hey, with Kaizen foam, you can pamper your gear even more without the spray!
How do you tune this coil with just an IC-705?
If you dont have a SWR analyzer then you can turn up your radio to an open frequency on the band you want to use and listen to the static noise as it gets louder you'll be closer to being tuned.
The bands were atrocious a few days ago.
yea but I'll take any day playing radio over work!
Satellites are on the to-do list, so I'll have to check out SATNOGS.
Ah, the classic 'to-do list' dilemma! Just remember, satellites don’t take breaks-unlike us!
Thanks for doing an iOS app video. 73 KD9YSW
Great show Eric bro 73
Thanks, dude! Glad you liked it! You rock!
You said that the _Mad Dog Coil_ didn’t come with all the accessories, so you used the ones you had from _Wolf River Coils._ Assuming you hadn’t made the initial WRC purchase, would you still purchase the WRC accessories to go with your _Mad Dog?_ *73 de AF6AS in **_“DM13”_** land*
In terms of having stock its a tough one. As I know WRC and Rez frequently have supply issues. So I would go with who's got stock. But the nice thing is that parts are very interchangeable as the coil allows for ground radials, has a bypass and is a 10/24 thread so you have options for other mounts from other manufacturers.
Solid recommendations. #TeamReplay
Thank you sir. Appreciate it.
Love my POTA!. Portable activating is what brought me back into the hobby after many years of inactivity. It's like a new lease on life!
Marty, I 100% agree pota has taken ham radio out of the basement shack and brought new life to the hobby. It’s always a blast sharing with folks that have never heard of ham radio and exposing them to it.
What’s the Q on that rig ,we want to know 😎
William I don’t have those numbers personally so I reached out to the designer himself and here is what he said. “I don’t have Q numbers that I can publish as these vary with specific frequency and I don’t not have professional LCR test equipment to be able to certify such Q values, but like any 107 uH inductor in a vertical antenna configuration the more inductance the higher the Q. The bandwidth on the 80 meter band using the 80 model and a 17ft whip to be within SWR 3.0:1 range is 250khz. At the middle of this sweep the SWR dipped to 1.2:1. Hope that helps.
I've struggled to get my mad dog 10m-40m antenna to tune using several different mounting options to get it to work.
Mike, A couple of things.. how are you mounting your coil? what type/length of whip are you using and how long are your radials. if I know that I can help you get that antenna tuned. As its pretty easy once you understand the antenna
there is an app too called LogMaster Ham Radio
Ham radar USELESS outside out of the US
Thanks for pointing that out! It's important to know the limitations of Ham radar in different regions.
Good stuff! could do without the background music while your talking, But good info.
Thank you for the feedback! I'll keep that in mind for future videos.
Thank you good information 73 de John G4YDM
Nice Job Eric and Paul I hope I can get you to do this again LOL 😉✌️😎
Let's make it a tradition like Thanksgiving dinner!
Good work. Yes lagging is a nice way to put it on the repeater app. DO appreciate your efforts as I am exclusively IOS/Apple.
Thanks for the shoutout! Good to know it's not just me experiencing the lag.
👋😎
Thanks!
Apple is the enemy!
Watch out, the Apple might send the iPhone police after you!
Keep 'em coming!
I'll keep 'em coming faster than a squirrel hoarding nuts for winter!
Good review. I find that Netlogger does not identify all active nets. However, it may be that participation may be voluntary on the part of the net controller group. KE9ANL
Thanks for the nice comments about PoLo! 73 de KI2D
Your Welcome! Its a great app keep up the great work!
FYI, PoLo is already available on the regular app stores for iOS and Android. I'll probably change the "beta" label to something else, because at this point is not so much about stability but about the fact that the app will be continuously evolving and always changing, and this won't be changing anytime soon.
Very nice. Some states, like Delaware, have a nice mapping system for their wildlife areas. Very detailed. I wish I could say the same about the DE state parks dept. Some states do have good state park maps too. 73!
Looks like Delaware needs to up their game in the state park map department! Maybe they're just hiding the good maps from us.
@@N1JUR I’ve already called them out on it…LOL! 73!
I love HS hotline, but it is what you make it. HINT: if you need a state, country, county or Grid for an award? Go to the users phone book online and search users in that state, county, country etc. You then start calling those Hams. I just start at the top of the list and call extensions until someone answers. I introduce myself and explain I need there country etc. I ask if they have 15 minutes to help. If yes, I invite them to a band/frequency and I call them and get that QSO. Sometimes it may require skipping to another band, but it’s always ended with a great outcome. Not only do you get what you need, but you have a new contact. WIN/WIN. For this alone it’s worth it. PS: pay no attention to anyone suggesting you stay away over internal politics. That’s nothing to do with any of us end users. Our only job is to have fun. Let others fight. 😊
Thank you for sharing this awesome strategy for expanding our ham radio network and having fun along the way!
Looks great. 73. Gene,N3XUS
Hamsearcher not available in Europe 😒
Bummer that it's not in Europe yet, but maybe they'll expand soon!
I just realized I've got ISS Detector. I'll need to get up to speed on it now, since I'm hoping to get my first sat QSO this summer.
That sounds like an exciting goal! Best of luck with your satellite QSO this summer.
This looks cool! Thanks for sharing. I'll check it out.
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out. Let me know what you think after you've seen it.
This is an interesting site and can definitely be helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome that you found the site interesting! Thanks for checking it out!
Please, do not use apps while you are driving!
Apps are great, but not when you're cruising down the highway. Safety first!
Ham Radio on an Iphone!?!?! LMAO!!! What a bunch of CRAP!! Iphone Ham is like sexual identifications. Even if you identify as a ham radio it doesn't mean you actually are one. Stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.
I’m using the 80 mad dog similar to you. MD coil, WR large tripod, and Faraday cloth. I just received the 160 m coil (still in the box) that I’m eager to try.
Nice setup! Can't wait to hear about your experience with the 160 m coil. As I have one as well and was going to do a quick review of it on Field Day!
Went to the App Store on my iPhone 14 and HamSearcher does not exist. Have they pulled it?
👋😎
Thank you!
Which antenna u using for that?
The atas120 of course :)
Thanks for the Video! I'll have mine going soon! Is there a way to get regular landline too while still using hamshack hotline?
Your Welcome! I know a few hams that have their own 10 digit external number but I would suggest opening a ticket with the HH support team to get the real answer.
Nice video. It would be helpful to have a list of the specific apps in your text description. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I'll make sure to add the app lineup in the description so you can download all the cool stuff I use to make my content. Check back in a bit for those links
