    Great practical advice, I always cringe when I here always do this.. I would much rather hear "this often works, or even "most the time" or here is a good starting point. I often try presets to get ideas, but rarely use them, especially as they are, and sometimes it inspires something new. Anyway, good points.

    I own a U87, WA87 and a AKG 414. The Nueman is superior for female rnb vocals and pretty good with loud rap vocals also. The all around best mic I’ve used with my setup is the 414 by far because of the polar pattern options and dynamic response to most vocal textures. U87 is goat tho

    The first one is something I often ask in comments on GearTubers when they make the overdone video when they try to justify the amount of gear they have. Are you a gear user or a gear collector? You can't be both, as being a collector will entail getting pieces of gear which might be useless to you because they may command a status or price in the market or as an investment asset. Or they might be look pretty in your backdrop when you record your videos.

    You nailed it all!!! A huge problem (I'm from Miami) I once was a salesman and people used to get gear that they didn't take time to study. They got the gear to look big but couldn't put it to potential use. I have a. few stories for days!!! I do mobile recording so I tend to make things easy by using what I use and try to get in and out. The more complicated you become during sessions the more it lead to a problem. I also know and see people like to do things the way others do it trying to get the same results but scream they wanna be different!!!

    Agree. However, if you are an average person with a reasonable IQ and have been in this business for years, you probably know all of this, even if you had to learn it the hard way. As a producer, I've worked with many people, but on a personal level, I've been around big flamenco artists for over 20 years. Not producing them, but being friends, attending parties, and so on. There's one thing I've learned from them: always speak well of everyone. You mentioned something about vanity in this video. I've never done anything like that; it's just who I am and part of my personality. That said, I've seen certain people try to completely change an artist's song and use the artist as a puppet for their own personal goals, undermining the competition, and manipulating everyone around them. Real psychos and pathological liars. If I had the chance, I'd love to tell you a story if you ever discuss something on this topic in the future. Congratulations on the book. Seeing someone with ADHD finish something brings me a lot of joy.

    I’ve been working producing a 7 song album in which charango is used in almost all the tracks, the charango player just turned 71. There’s so many ways to play it, so many sounds and textures. Get the mic position wrong and you can ruin the whole thing. Preproduction is the key so you know how to record it to fit the track, but, when it’s there… holly molly…

    Brazilian music has a similar instrument called "viola caipira." It's about the size of a travel acoustic, it uses 5 double strings like the charango and it's often tuned BEBG#BE. Though the standard tuning of the charango is CGEAE, not EADGB.

    All the people lamenting about AI just really shows how little a lot of people believe in their own creative voice and abilities, and also how skewed their priorities are in regards to what motivates them. If money, fame, and accolades are the only things that drive you, then yeah, it is likely you will fail, because you're letting everyone else but you define the value that your skills and creativity have. Art is about expressing yourself, and AI is the antithesis of that. When your goal is self expression, AI can never replace you. Loving the process of creating art needs to be your core motivation, whether you're just working on your own stuff or seeking to help others make their creativity come to life. Potential clients will catch on to your vibe real quick if you're phoning it in just for the money, and not because you actually care about making good art. And if you'd manage to hit it big with music that doesn't really matter to you, wouldn't that just feel so awfully empty? Your take on all of this is a very healthy and constructive angle, and I appreciate you sharing it. Keep the good content coming.

    Music is such a good skill for me with my ADHD because of how responsive and interactable it feels. I press a button, sound happens, i press a different button WOAH sound changes. It becomes almost a really creative fidget toy 😂 Unlike drawing or sculpting where feedback is minimal and most of the reward comes after a very very long period of "trusting the process" I personally need that immediate feedback music has for art.

    i agree about your point about only taking advice from people who you can trust to know better, so this isn't undercutting your point, but i'm a vocalist, and i actually did do a mic shootout years ago at sweetwater in their in-store studio set up for this kind of thing, and literally sang into both mics you used as an example and the actual frequency response of the Rode NT1-A sounded much nicer for my voice than the Neumann lol. now i have no doubt the neumann mic is better for 1000 other uses, but purely for my own voice the NT1-A worked better. your advice is solid for sure, i just thought the coincidence was hilarious

    • @AdamSliger
      @AdamSliger 24 дня назад

      Not that I don’t believe you but what was the context? Were you just singing into it and listening back? Because the NT1A to me has kind of a hyped up high end that makes a lot of people like it at first but then it’s annoying to work with in actual mixes. Which I think is why the “NT1A is better” thing is so widespread. But also that is really funny!
