Small overhaul on the Ford Superduty clearance lights. Changed out the bulbs to amber LEDs and polished the lens caps. I use a XL zip-tie to hang the brake caliper from shock, I do that before removing it so it wont fall too
Great test. Im familiar with this area, gives a good indication for me. Just bought 9x. Thx
We really like the area because it's not jam packed and over developed.
I had an antenna analyzer and used it a lot and liked it a lot. I moved and lost it. I now have a Nano VNA. It cost a lot. After getting through the learning curve (lots of videos shorten that process) I'll stay with the Nano VNA. I meant to say the nano vna cost a lot less than the antenna analyzer
I have a Nano VNA and it's a great tool.
Thanks. It helped too much.
Glad to hear it!
I am a newbie to this. Great video for sure. I have this antenna that I use with pigtail on a Baofeng 5R. My SWR matches what you received here for frequencies mentioned. Great product for sure. The only issue I have is it will not pick up NOAA. When I use the rubber duck, I get NOAA. Am I missing something?
That's odd. If anything I would think the issue would be the opposite. NOAA is in the VHF band around 162 MHZ and would benefit from a longer antenna, about 18 inches for a 1/4 wave. Could be a build issue with yours. I gave mine to someone new to radio and no longer use this model. I prefer to have NMO mounts so the antenna and base can be separated to change out different whips.
@@Soladaddy Thank you for your reply.
Thanks. Just ordered 2
Hey buddy the smiley super stick will it fit on a baofeng radio
Yes it will. I have a few Baofengs and like to have radios with common connectors.
@@Soladaddy thank you
Thanks for putting this video together. Very helpful. Can really identify with the "I don't want to do this" comment because this part couldn't be located in a more difficult place on the truck, especially one that has a lift.
Afterwards, I end up wondering why I waited so long.
I might try this on my mercury grand marquis. I bought mine used last month 2006 cc not working 😟
My cruise works intermittently. Where would you start ?
Mine can have occasional issues. It will turn on fine the first 10-15 minutes after a cold engine start. Once hot, I have to hold down the On button for a few seconds to get it to set. Sometimes it takes a few tries. Its possible my new sensor is already having issues, but I haven't dug into it.
I just ordered one. Can you add a privacy channel to these?
Yes. They may have changed some of the default settings, but mine had the second and third groups of entries set with tones. They can be changed as well.
I thought I recognized noah weather channel 3. Your in the same region that I am.👋
Central Florida.
@ East Coast
I did a simplex test with my friend 8 miles away and my Super Stick GMRS worked great retracted but was much worse when extended. Weird and not what you are getting here.
It should do better extended, especially at that distance, assuming all environmental conditions were equal.
@ yeah it’s surprising for sure. It’s my best handheld antenna retracted though so I’m not complaining.
Awesome video! Now to fix mine. Thanks!
This got me the info I needed to get it out. Thank you.
Glad it helped
Did you happen to spray brake clean on the new rotors to wash off the packing oil off? That may have been a contributing factor to your rotor warpage. Thanks for video though. It was still helpful.
hmm i dont think so. I did wipe them down with a wet rag to get the dust off.
@@Soladaddy Yeah, unfortunately brother they may have been the cause. Not saying that it was, but I do believe that the pads will glaze if the oil is not cleaned off the rotors. New rotors have to have brake clean or some other similar cleaning agent to wash off that oil, before assembly, so as to not cause functioning issues. Thanks for the reply and good luck brother.
No radio that I’ve seen puts out advertised power. There are variables outside of the lab test environment that prevent this - you proved this.
Water pooling by the flange.🙋🏽♂️ Misery loves company. Too bad modern plumbing technology doesn't match up with most 15+ year old sinks. Mine is well over 20 years old.
My sink is 24 years old and having the same problem around the drain. I have the old drain and the lip is considerably thinner than the new ones, hence the pooling of the water. I am going to hit some different plumbing supply houses and see if I can find a thin lip drain.
@stackedhippiechick You can also try not using the gasket and only use a good amount of plumber's putty in its place.
How you take out the stupid baskets ? Can. I.have a link to part 1 ? Thank you.
Sorry for the late reply. Here it is if still needed. ruclips.net/video/drr03aJnOZs/видео.html
Where did you source your rotors? How are they holding up? I'm just doing mine today 9/21/24 and I ordered Motorcraft rotors and Motorcraft premium blue HD pads.
Usually local auto parts store, because the shipping is crazy expensive.
"Tacky" to me (in grease) means sticky-I wouldn't suggest using something that might cause the slide pins to stick. Many use NAPA Syl-Glyde on the caliper slide pins....
I own the bigger antenna and us it for my base operation that will not com off that little one is a joke
I think for the price point and intended purpose, the little one will work just fine - no joke.
Looking at the 916. Is the UV9G much better for the extra cost? Really like your videos.
Thank you. The 916 is solely setup for GMRS and to me has no issues with intermod in high RF environments. The 9G has many bands, color screen and 2 receivers. Its a lot if just using GMRS on occasion although the twin receivers is great to have. Can scan with one and then keep the other on a primary freq. The 916 has most features wanted in a GMRS rig, has a larger, less tinny speaker which I really like, the screen can be seen in full sunlight and it feels more durable. Its a tough call.
I have a small secret...for all of you.....the comet 2x4 antenna also works in the 220 mhz band..🤫.....yes the 220 mhz band....you don't have to believe me....make you own test...🤔.... i live in a island..the sun, rein and the bad weather don't give a brake to this antenna also the salt of the sea that come's whit the wind,,,,😎....I have mine since 2005.... I always keep it clean
Great job, thanks for the video. My only issue is how do you work on a job like this with short pants on? LOL Thanks
Thanks, its hot 9 months of the year in Florida.
Glad I don't have friends.
Bro you showed every thing but the damn hose. You don’t have to remove all that.
Watched 5 minutes of your a ding dong 😂 you are the bro science problem hahaha
You don't even use Superhet radios 😅😅
Have plenty of superheterodynes and they still need a ground place for useable readings.
Doing it by flashlight? Why aren’t the room lights on?
The lights were on but not enough made it in the freezer. The flashlight hosed up the camera's sensor, making it under expose. It's bad.
G M R S channels are 15 repeater through 22 repeater and will be 45 watts out on my radio should be at least 40 since you did not read the book going into a 60 watt repeater on a towerand go 20 miles I am W R X N 824 out of Minneapolis Minn.
Glad you are getting 45 watts out of your radio. No I didn't read a book about going into a 60 watt repeater because I didn't use a repeater in this power test.
THANK YOU FOR THE TEST,
You bet!
I reversed the order of drawer to avoid those tabs on the slider-drawer altogether. Empty the drawers first. Especially the top one for this method.... I clicked the tabs on the inside of the metal rails of the big (lower/main) drawer, to pull it out. Then I removed it but sliding it out with its rails, careful to tuck them in while supporting the drawer as it is pulled out to not put pressure on those rails. With that drawer and rail removed. I then pulled forward the top drawer of the freezer conpartment, until it hangs down because the bottom drawer is gone. It's easier than fighting those tabs. Not everyone can do this without breaking something so... beware.
Thanks for great videos . I have a 99 7.3 project and your videos are very easy to watch. Thanks for posting and to glad you still have the 7.3 . I have a late 99 7.3 , 350
Thanks. This truck is an endless source of topics.
Are the inner and outter beearings aind races the same
No they are two different sizes.
Juat want to say thank you for posting this. Seems the only video up on it.
That's a big reason why I post. Not much on 2WD models.
@@Soladaddy lol I had a time just trying to find the hubs/rotor. Had to search for rotors instead of hub bearings and the races come pre installed. I just changed the races and bearing on the rotors I already had. So they didn't make many 2wd dually extended cabs
@@hinds90my last rotor set was acquired from a local auto store and I couldn’t find a store that had a pair. One rotor box looked ancient.
Curious how i search for the hubs and bearings? Same truck but extended cab
I updated the video info with parts I used. Mine is a dually so they may differ for a SWR.
My Wouxun KG UV9G Pro GMRS does not perform in the real world any better than our Retevis NR30s, TDH3s, B00fwang UV5R or UV5G plus....and they all (except for the Retevis) use the same Smiley Antennas that you are using. In fact I have to say the Retevis NR30s usually out perform all of the others in simplex or repeater TX/RX
Hi, how do i replace the rotor only. Mine is 97 f350 4x4 and I could not find rotor and hub (where the wheels are bolted to) in one piece. I have the new rotors but i don't know how to remove the old hub
Not sure on the OBS or 4x4. I know the SD 4x4 hub is totally different.
Only thing I would do different is use an old pad instead of the wood to push the pistons in on the caliper. Great video!
That's a good idea.
Thanks man. Just did my e350 super duty after watching your video. Very helpful
Good to hear.
Is short 1/4" rachet amd socket works wonders for those 4 bolts
I see a shorty ratchet and wrenches in the future.
Am I the only one who knows you can put the lug posts of the hub through your dismounted wheel and this holds the hub steady when you torque the brake rotor on?
Duh, okay I need to remember this next time. thanks
Clever!
Okay, you made me do it. I have it and I like it.
Great video. I think a range test between the old and new would be a great comparison video. Maybe test them with other antennas also. Thanks! 1:36
There should be a little gain from 5 to 8 watts, but now I'm curious to what the receiver filters have done to the receive capability.
These cameras suck. Never again.
I hope the new cameras on the market are better than this one.
Yes. They're so expensive for being so low quality. A cheap set from Amazon offers a higher resolution and more features for a fraction of the price.
Thanks for this. Be nice to do the same test connected to a roof mount antenna. When cell coverage fails we use MURS in heavier timber and terrain and GMRS on a repeater over further distances. BAOFENG UV5R @4W
I plan to get back to this topic with better antennas. Waiting for those rare moments not in suburbia where moving vehicles can skew the reception results.
Watched several videos on this antenna. Ordering one for my pickup, I have a new HT, and I know an external antenna will help. I only have 2 repeaters near me, and they are linked. I do not want or need an antenna with 30ish inches in length....This one seems perfect. Thanks!
I do change them out on occasion. While I like the extra reach of a 5/8 over 5/8 wave, this little 5/8 is what's been on my truck for the past 6+ months.
Thank you for the video! I got the 8W version just a couple of days ago. So far very impressed with the receiver! I always complain about direct conversion radios de-sensing on big antennas. It doesn't seem to happen with this one at all. Very good receive audio, too. According to my meter, it puts out ~7W on simplex and repeater GMRS channels. The only downside is that not all antennas fit. They seem to fit, but there is no RX or TX. Unfortunately, one of such antennas is the presumably "genuine" Nagoya 771G antenna from BTWR. The good news is that Smileys work well, so I can always use the telescopic Superstick with it if I want to. Thank you again!
Time will tell but this 8w version seems like a killer value. Yeah its not a name brand, but even my older "Japanese" rig's performance goes down hill with age. It's hard to dismiss the price differences.
@@Soladaddy What is your power output on VHF set to Medium? Mine is a bit low, less than 1 watt. Not a big deal, just wondering.
What part of florida are you in?
Outskirts of Tampa.
