I Thank You Jesus - June 1996 This arrangement was written by Robert L. Morris and was a Chorale favorite. We thank you, Robert Morris!!!
Still here in 2024
I believe this is the best performance I’ve ever heard of Elijah Rock. Exceptional.
Damn, they are amazing. Such a token in time to capture this tremendous ensemble!
What a lovely arrangement and passionately and artfully performed! Thank you so very much for uploading this gem!
Just wonderful and touching as you always have in Song Beautiful Bridget. Me/Your Choir Mate from First AME Church/Seattle ❤😏
Where can I find this music?
Chills! My favorite chorale
The build up at the end shook and moved me I started crying 🤣 omg this is the best version I’ve ever heard.
Who was that soprano who lets it RIP??? My God she could spin that high D !
Hi Ernest! I worked with you at Sylvan in New Orleans East years ago. I was just thinking of this great music today and thought to look it up. Years ago you invited me to attend a Moses Hogan concert in which you were singing. Later, I worked with Anthony Decuir at Loyola! I hope all is well and happy Father's Day.
gorgeous!!!!
What a great choir. I love a good spiritual. I am currently in a community choir of 80 and we are doing a summer concert with "Elijah Rock" as one of our songs. We have only had two practices and I have been able to memorize the tenor part. The sound is really incredible. RIP Moses Hogan your music lives on.
Wow. Thank you!🙏
The voices are so dreamy 😍🌙 ✨🖤
Amazing blending and balance!
Chills and 😭
Doesn't get any more thrilling.
EVERY TIME I listen to this video it brings tears. Lots of tears. The music is that good. The choir is that good. And, heaven knows, Moses Hogan - God bless his soul - was that good.
Thank you David for sharing your reaction. It was an honor being a member of the Moses Hogan Chorale. Blessings to you as well.
waaw
Perfection! You have to listen to this Chorale to hear how it is supposed to be sung! Every note, every rhythm! Thank you, choir, Thank you, Maestro! We are still listening.
Your feedback is priceless. Thank you for sharing. The legacy of Moses G Hogan continues!! Thank you again...keep listening!!!
Magnificent...Glorious!!!
Many thanks!
I love MH's music - I've sung with him and have his recordings. When I came to listen to this video I was interested to read the comments regarding tempo, and decided to check out the score. Moses indicates this (apart from the introductory measures) should be around ♩ = 84. This tempo is pretty much ♩ = 99/100. Even Moses took liberties. Gone way too soon... ♥
Yes, participating in the live concerts was pure joy so you are correct in your observations regarding tempo.
RIP to one of the greats :( hogan had an incredible gift
this makes me wanna shout and dance
Yes!!!
We miss you, Moses!!! You started a movement and your legacy and purpose live on in your music and the inspired musicians you've left behind. Thank you for what you gave so passionately.
Well said!
Too much audio interruptions, poor sound quality, and camera movement. Will never replace the Studio version of Sheralee Lucas.
My God! I will never forget performing this with the GSU choir. Bravo!
Am I the only who prefers this tempo? This is the most powerful version on RUclips in my opinion.
yes, and it's Hogan himself conducting. Why does everybody do it way slower than the written tempo? I'm clocking them at around 98 beats per minute, which is above the tempo he wrote (quarter=ca.84 in the published score)
This still slaps
Thank you for amazing singing!!!!! You are the only one....!
Wow, thank you!
Beautiful!!!! Can't beat the original; am so blessed to have heard. :)
Thanks for listening Jake!!!
ICONIC
12 years late but outstanding!
This choir......sang it just like Moses intended it. It’s gonna be really hard to top this.
That "Hallelujah Lord at 1:12 had me shook. I felt that in my bones
Yes!!
Yes lord
I did this song in my junior year!
When I was in high school we got to perform this song and sing till the spirit moves in my heart at districts chorus under the direction of Mr. Hogan himself. He pushed us hard and we kept this pace. Also if you learned this song under him he told us to drag the part my souls been aaaanchored in the lord. Wonderful man.
I wish this had been uploaded with better sound, it’s so low! This is the best performance of Elijah Rock on RUclips
I know...my camera wasn't the best...sorry about that.
Man how I wish Moses Hogan was still alive I’m glad I had a chance to sing in his chorus one time

Man, that soprano has a powerful voice!!!! Awesome choir!!! No one can top the originals!!
Wow. Beautiful and powerful.
I am STILL getting goosebumps every time I listen to this. The older I get, the more I can tell they are good, *really* good, at what they do. The tenor part would be really hard to keep under control, and they made it look easy. Man, listen to them all.

I asked the Lord to comfort me When things weren't going my way; And He said to me, "I will comfort you And I'll lift your cares away." I asked the Lord to walk with me, when darkness was all that I knew; And He said to me "Never be afraid, and I will see you through." I didn't ask for riches, but He gave me wealth untold, The moon and the stars, the sun in the sky, and He gave me eyes to behold. I thank the Lord for everything, and I count all my blessings each day; For He came to me when I needed Him, I only had to pray. And He will come to you, if you ask Him to, For He's only a prayer away
EXCELLENT
Very moving.
This was recorded at the St Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. I regret not having my tripod that evening but as you indicated, it was truly moving.
Who still loves a classic high school adjudication performance piece in 2k19. I did sang soprano and alto on some cases. 😍😍😍😍
This is absolutely the most delightful performance of this song I've ever heard.
