This is entirely something different for me. Lets see if anyone likes this short form report. I might use this again in the future unless the community thinks it isn't worth it. I definitely need to improve the format. Thanks for joining me on this experiment. Have a great weekend! Mid Year 2024 update and Big Things coming for Chain of Command!
Brilliant mate - agreed that the battle had a really different feel to it - once you got to closer ranges and melee troops really started melting away. I will be interested in your thoughts on the Warlord epic stuff - I bought the French Waterloo epic starter box of 1000 troops and have painted about 280 so far - really enjoy them as a break from the 28mm stuff. I have even cut strips to put mounted commanders in the units so some conversion work can be quite easily done. Have a great Thanksgiving week.
Awesome Craig! I will accept any and all Epic advice. It will be a whole new world for me! Have a good one 👍
Great Narrative Steve! Union QM needs to get the ammo situation sorted 😄
I started working on caissons last night! Have a good one 👍
It does looks great at this scale! Pivot is part of the move action. Second move is just 50% (so move 6 means first move 6, second move 3). The free pivot is pivot then move or move then pivot. I think chacrters can also pivot as a reaction to enemies activating (slowing the game down so we house ruled that one).
Awesome. I know there are some F&F experts out there. I will take all the help I can get. I appreciate your input 👍
What a great game loved to see the thought that had to go in to maneuvering regiments. I have a box of ACW and AWI packed up for you email where to send them. To me Fire and Fury is one of the best linear warfare rule sets.
Well presented narrative 👍.
Thanks, Tony! This format is still a work in progress.
Superb , but slightly surprised by the high casualties given the number of time "fire" from some units was deemed as "desultory" (i.e. aimless, haphazard).
Desultory was kicking my butt for a while there, LOL. I was surprised by casualties, too. But with each stand of 4 guys being 100 guys, the bodies hit the floor quickly. Have a good one my friend
@@basement1908 🤭I didn't realise a stand of 4 guys equalled 100 hundred, 🤕
First, that is a beautiful battlefield, and Second, CALvary is a place in the Bible. CAValry is when soldiers ride horsies into battle and such. Third, I was involved with this reenactment for a number of years, as a part of a mountain howitzers crew. If you can find minis of mountain howitzers, I suggest doing so. They are so much lighter than regular 12 pound Napoleon howitzer, yet the mountain howitzer can fire a 12 pound shrapnel or spherical case shot just a couple hundred yards less than the large howitzer. The trail arm can be picked up by one crewman and advance with a line of infantry to augment their volley fire with canister. Such a fun piece!
Awesome, yes, my spelling and pronunciation can sometimes be found lacking. It is awesome that you have taken part in reenactments. That is definitely on my bucket list. Yes, I would much rather push a mountain howitzer. After carrying a 60mm mortar tube and an 81 up a mountain, I was much happier with the 60. Thanks for commenting. Have a fantastic week
Blue skirmishers giving "packs of cigarettes" to compatriots while passing through their march column? More like a "chaw o' terbacky" handed off!
I love some chew-ter-bakka, spit! Thanks for popping in and commenting. Have a good one 👍
Was curious, like @Peanutbrain123, which you prefer? I was definitely more engrossed in watching this Regimental Fire and Fury play through vs the Hot Lead and Cold Steel version.
Past midnight here, just watched the full battle 👍. Will check this tomorrow.
Great. I’ll have to watch later. Table looks wonderful- Maclellan- the Virginia creeper!
So after playing both games how do you feel on fire and fury vs hot lead and cold steel? Both games looked fun so I’m curious what some pros and cons to each are!
Good stuff...as always.
Thanks Doug! I appreciate you Brother! Have fun staying warm up there!
Well said
@@basement1908 - we are...just got a foot of snow within the fast few days :D
I love your tables. They look fantastic. Thank you so much for taking the time to put these together. I personally enjoy watching them.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a fantastic rest of your weekend!
Brilliant table set up and figures. Enjoyed the game immensely; also I find your games inspiring.
Thanks John! I hope you have a great weekend. I should have this regimental fire & Fury ACW game out to watch this weekend
The situation has simplified. We are surrounded...they cant get away this time!
LOL
Well done Steve, enjoyed this one. Not a criticism by any means but an interesting smaller scenario which I think works really well on your huge table (food for thought). The rules seemed to play well. Many Thanks Mate lookin forward to the f&f version👍
Thanks Paul! All input is welcome. I enjoyed the heck out of it. I'm really enjoying this Regomental Fore & Fury game that I am in the middle of right now
This is going to be awesome! Looking forward to it!
Thanks so much! Have a fantastic weekend 👍
Fun narrative of the battle! I definitely prefer the full version with all the rolls, discussion, troop movements, etc, but as an addition this makes a fun teaser, recap, or extra video. You should do more of these. I really liked how you zoomed in on each part of the battle in this narrative and captured the ebb and flow of the action. 🧢⚔🤠
Excellent! I'm going to keep trying to do both! I hope your weekend is awesome
This was awesome!! I love how quickly the battle went and that you were able to see immediate results on the table. Definitely a positive set of rules for horse and musket, and it feels very Civil War. I'm headed over to watch the narrative video now and I'm excited for the comparison to Regimental Fire & Fury 🧢⚔🤠
Thanks so much! I am really glad you enjoyed it! Have fun!
Good coverage of the artillery and cavalry. Smoothbore canister is brutal. Looking forward to the play comparison between WHLACS and Fire & Fury 🇺🇸🧢⚔️🤠🏴
I am getting ready to stick together some smooth bore napoleon's for the Rebels! Can't wait to unload some cannister!
That matt you are playing on looks ace, personally might have done the bases to match. Looking fabulous still though. Look forward to your next battle report.
My base game is sad. It's getting better, but it's still sad. I will keep working on it! Have a great week 👍
Love your setup.
@@khyronkravshera7774 thanks so much! I appreciate that. I hope you have a fantastic week 👍
I started to see the elephant when the Federals and Confederates began blazing away at each other 🐘💨🔫 Those charges were brutal!! I can't wait to see you play a full game 🧢⚔️🤠
Looking forward to that myself! Have a good one 👍
Great camera. I like that we get to see you and your minis. Looking tactically at the brigades advancing as a whole is just fine, but when you perform regimental or brigade formations, the formations are a bit small on my phone to see what is happening within the unit. If you edit your videos, then it would be helpful if you would snap a picture zoomed in and insert it into the video so it is easier to see what the unit is doing and you are discussing. The rest of the time it's great to see you, the entire brigades/divisions, and the battlefield. Pickett's Charge 2nd Edition sounds exciting. I wonder if David Brown plans to have it published for Christmas or if it is coming in 2025. I'm really liking the explanations of Arthur van der Ster's With Hot Lead and Cold Steel. I'm trying to decide between this and Greg Wagman's Altar of Freedom. Keep rolling out the Civil War content 🦅🇺🇸🧢⚔️🤠🏴🐍
I will see what I can do to bring the "money shots"! Thanks for commenting. I'm pumped for Pickett's Charge 2! Have a great week 8
Set up looks amazing, looking forward to this.
Thanks John! Have a great week 👍
I design and print my bases and unit trays. Magnetize most everything as well. I have trays made for different games and just plug in the figs as needed. Mainly 28mm but I've also done some 15mm stuff. I adapted fig bases I had bought before I got into printing into some of my later trays so fully compatible.
That is super cool. I love the magnetizing thing. I need to try it one day. Have a great week 👍
I use the same Napoleonic figures for a skirmish game (Sharp Practice) and for a ‘big battle’ game (General d’Armée). No need to base every figure individually! The trick is to base each group of 8 men with 4 on a stand, 2 on another stand + two singletons as ‘small change’. Move the group around on a single metal or magnetised group base or on a sabot base. Problem solved!
Officers, drummers and standard-bearers are the only problem, as you need them based separately for Sharp Practice, in addition to your main groups of combatants. But if based as singletons or pairs they’re easy enough to swap for ordinary grunts when playing big battles.
That's a great idea. The varying stand size is genius. I was going to use casualty dice to cover the 1, 2 and 3 prior to removing full base. I couldn't imagine playing GDA with individually based troops. Thanks for the input , I appreciate it. Have a great week 👍
Very nice idea have a great week 🤠🤠🤠
Thank you so much! Have a great week 👍
That's interesting. Hopefully you don't ever have to take them off.
Lol! Fingers crossed Brother 🤞
Nice flags.
Thanks so much! Have a great week 👍
Steve, you mentioned two other Civil War games, Pickett's Charge and With Hot Lead and Cold Steel, in addition to Brigade Fire & Fury 2nd Edition. Which of the three rules are your favorite and why?
I might have to get back to you on this one. I am right in the middle of my first game of regimental fire and fury, and I'm still waiting on the release of Pickett's Charge 2 ( I am a General d'armee 2 super freak, though So if it is at all like that, it will be money). I am going to do a compare and contrast video between WHLACS an RFF after I play 3 games of each. More to come I guess
Just found your channel and subscribed. Excited to catch up on all the American Civil War content 😁
Outstanding! It's my jam right now!
What size table are you using for 28mm figures? I realise that the base size is the ground scale.
15 foot by 7 foot right now. I have started working on adding on another 12 foot by 6 foot extension for larger battles in the future.
@@basement1908 I had planned and built a 16 x 6 tablespoons. Used it for 10 years but I increased my business and lost the time to play games. Then I retired, but a back injury. Messed up my standing up long enough to play a big game built a 6 x 4 but I have to clear a heated room before I can sit down to play. I’m 8 now but I’ve not given up and I’m trying to design / put together a good solo play game for napoleonic. Pickets charge is great for solo play but for napoleonic I want a good competition game at battalion and brigade level.not easy but enjoyable.
Small quicklime -great
Glad you enjoyed. Thank you for commenting. Have a fantastic weekend 👍
Nice idea to give us two different styled reports. Thx for this. 🙏 Another nice, beautiful looking battle report.
Thanks so much Brother! Have a fantastic weekend 👍
Enjoyable, particularly liked the time stamps and St Anthony's church bells ringing , However if I had to make a choice between one or the other personally I'd watch the longer version, just love the suspense watching those dice rolls
Me too my friend. I appreciate you. Have a great weekend Tony!
Fantastic as always! :-)
Thank you so much! I appreciate that my friend 👍

Awesome! Glad you liked them both. Have a fantastic weekend 👍
Great report Steve, will be looking at the Directors cut😊👍
Thanks Paul! I hope all is well with you! Have a great weekend 👍
Enjoyable game, just about as it happened, with the same result. Excellent table layout and figures. Look forward to your next engagement.
Thanks, John. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Have a great weekend 👍
As ever great episode sir!! Loved this shorter narrative style… now I’ve seen this I’ll be enjoying the full version tomorrow on my day off!! Always inspiring me to go further!! I’ve just got back from playing a WHACS battle at my local club in 6mm. So perfect timing. Take care buddy
Thanks Luke! Have a great battle this weekend! Have a good one 👍

Fantastic game really enjoyed ACW games very good battle report brilliant like a boss 😂😂🤠🤠🤠🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks so much! I always appreciate hearing from you. Have a spectacular weekend!
Wow that was Savage ! and I loved it . Out of interest would love to know what the percentage count of casualties was in this fight. Hats off to the "Rebs", never thought they'd hang in there as long as they did, felt sorry for them as the battle progressed . As for the Union side, to quote Mulholland in the movie Waterloo "We are doing murder here your Grace"
Our battle was much more savage. According to what I have seen, the Union had 4 men killed or wounded, and the Rebs had 26 killed or wounded. Glad you liked it. Just started the next battle!
@@basement1908 Looking forward to the next battle Steve
