On a side note another scam that’s fairly new to look out for happens with the scammer getting your basic info like address phone number and names of you or family members, they can also get more personal info but that’s a bit harder. After they have this info they will call you claiming they’re FBI agents who just lost their position within the FBI and got demoted? Or fired not sure which exactly since this happened to a family friend, but they will claim that a loved one of yours just posted a picture or info regarding their mission to take down the “mafia” lol but then they will demand that you send them money and threaten you if you don’t send the money saying you’ll get into legal trouble or your loved one will or something worse will happen to either one of you guys pr maybe be another loved one. It’s a scare tactic kinda like the scams where they claim to be cops saying you have to pay a ticket asap or they’ll be coming to arrest you on a warrant, same thing just a little more intense and harder to verify if it is true. With the cop one ya can call any cop or station and get an answer if they do that normally. With the FBI one you’d most likely have to wait on hold trying to reach a agent who could verify if there is a mission that was jeopardized by someone ya know, they wouldn’t just give out info on any active operations to just anyone

If your qr scanner just opens it without letting you check the link then change your qr app

You're not losing everything on your device, it will likely just lead to some phishing website that attempts to get your banking information but if you simply don't put your info in, nothing will be lost in most cases.

I've never scanned a qr. Send me paper mail or alternate. Always ask for alternative

As someone who works in cybersecurity and data forensics thats NOT how it works lol. you dont just scan something and get jacked, that isnt how hacking works, you need to AT LEAST download something or put info into a fake link. If it was that easy it would be so fcking out of control by now. youre safer scanning a QR than you are using open wifi at starbucks
